Sun ONE Instant Messaging is tightly integrated with the Sun ONE Portal Server. Sun ONE Instant Messaging provides a portlet or channel that displays a list of a given user's online buddies and also provides the capability to archive chat and other forms of IM Communications within the portal server search database. Hence, chat, alerts, news channels and more can be archived and searched using the Search capabilities of the portal server. On my Solaris 10 box, I restarted the cacoa server via
/usr/sbin/cacaoadm stop
/usr/sbin/cacaoadm start
I was able to log back in.

Sun One Instant Messaging Multiplexor

I have instaled the Sun One Instant Messaging in a Windows 2000 server with service pack 4, few days passed when sudenly the service start to fail because of the multiplexor service unexpectedly terminiation. The event log shows this information:

Do you hgave a multiplexor log file (mux.log)? What happens if you start the multiplexor by hand? Here is how:
stop the multiplexor, start the server, then from the promt:
cd <installdir>
cd bin
multiplexor -c <installdir>/config/iim.conf

The server and client are written in Java. The multiplexor is written in C.

IM does require a directory server and a web server but these are not part of the IM product. There is no need to distinguish between the IM Server and the Multiplexor since the Multiplexor may be considered part of the server. The multiplexor was done for a particular reason: to bypass the current Java VM's inability to handle more than 3000 concurrent connections.

Installing Sun ONE Instant Messaging...

Hello, I am doing an evaluation for for my company on IM, and would like to install Sun ONE Instant Messaging - on a windows Server.
In the documentation it states I require :
A web server, such as Sun ONE Web Server Enterprise Edition.
A directory (LDAP) server, such as Sun ONE Directory Server
and.....
A messaging server (SMTP service), such as Sun ONE Messaging Server.
I'm assuming that I don't have to use any of the above, (we already have a web server (IIS), a directory server and an SMTP server)
Is my assumption correct ?
If no, then I would have to purchase Sun ONE messenger Server for instance, and the license policy starts with users over 1000! i.e. License for 1-4,999 Users (Minimum of 1000 users required.) [+ $20.00 each]
Can anyone help?

your assumption is correct. The SMTP server can be any SMTP server that can route messages to the domains used in user's offline delivery email adresses. If you do nto configure an SMTP server, the system will not be able to forward offline alerts to users' email.

Yes, you can. Nearly all email software can do this. It involves creating two folders and a Rule for each folder.
Maybe call one folder Personal Mail, the other Work Mail (Apple Mail calls folders Mailboxes). One Rule would route all mail from your personal email account into the Personal Mail folder; the other Rule would route all mail from your work email account into the Work Mail folder. It's actually easy to do, all you have to do is click a few things and the rule is set up. Once the Rule is written you can also apply it to existing messages already downloaded to your Mac.
In Apple Mail, Rules are under Preferences > Rules. Follow the prompts to create a rule like this:
If = Any
Account = my Personal account (select the name of your personal email account)
Perform the following actions: Move Message to Mailbox = my Personal Mail (select the name of your Personal Mail folder (aka mailbox))
This rule says, "take any message that comes in from my Personal Account and move it to my Personal Mail mailbox (folder)"
Create a similar rule for your Work email.

I believe there are currently two open source J2EE 1.3 compliant appservers:

Both have beta versions of their J2EE 1.4 offers. If what you are looking for is not actually open source but simply free as in beer, then Sun's appserver is a rather attractive option. Instant messages NOT VISIBLE on one computer

When someone instant messages me (I can see the little pencil writing), the message is not visible on my PC. Oddly, the message IS visible on my Mac. I must have made some strange alteration in my settings so that messages aren't visible. How did I do it and what do I do? Many thanks in advance. Ken

I imagine you have more than likely changed your text colour(color) to white.
I have not been able to reproduce your issue in tools>options.

Virtually any web server should work but SOIM has been tested with Sun ONE Web Server Enterprise Edition 6.0 SP5.

You should have no problem to install 10g on the server.
It's really not which mode of Sun Server limiting the 10g, rather your solaris version. Solaris 10 is good for 10g installation.
You think Ultra 60 is bad, we still have server on Ultra10.

One XI message creating more than one Idoc

hi,
i hav a SOAP > Idoc scenario wherein one single XI message is generating 2 idocs.
this is not happening for all the idocs but only for some.
the idocs have been cofigured to be generated in recvr r/3 system immediately upon thier reciept frm XI.
please advise as to what could be the cause of this problem.

Are oyu having any problem /issue if multiple idocs are passed..
for this to know look at the mapping of SOAP to idoc.. will get to know when multiple idocs will get generated and when not...
if you dont want multiple idocs to be generated then change the message mapping of IR..which will not trigger mutliple..(this depends on occurence of idoc message,,)

One large message or multipels small ones?

Hi:
I'm working in an application using weblogic 8.1.
We receive in a JMS queue a large message containing thouthands of transactions to be processed.
What should be more eficient? processing the whole transactions in the message (with one MDB) or split the large message in smaller ones and process "in paralel" with multiples MDB and somehow join all the results to return as the whole process result (hiding the client from this split/join) ?
Keeping all the execution in the same transaction would be desireable, but we could create multiple independant transactions to process each small message, but the result must be consistent in what transactions were processed successfully and what weren't.
If splitting is the option: Is there any tip on doing this?

This book describes the split and join process very good.
If the messaging overhead is little compared to total job time it would be a good idea to split
(if the tasks also run well in paralel, get quick out of the DB if you run against one DB).
Are you doing transactions against a DB?
Are you using several computers to distribute the work or a multiprocessor computer?
You can also test performance and try to split to 1, 5 or 10 transactions/msg.
When you split, keep track of total number of transations per job (= N),
and when number of successful transactions + number of failed transactions = N you are finished.
You could send the result per msg to a success or failure channel.

I am having issues with updating my iphone. I keep getting an error message relating to connecting to the server. I have read previous posts and I did disable my firewall on Norton, but still no luck. Other suggestions, please.

Sounds like you might need to take it to an Apple Store but if it is an iPhone 3G it would no longer be under warranty.
Looking at the Apple Store online you can get an iPhone 3GS from $49 on AT&T if it comes to having to get a new one. Your other option is second hand.

But I can not know, how to create LDAP user ID and password to Login to Sun ONE Instant Messenger???
