Sun One / Win ME / Mandrake Linux

Okay, this is driving me nuts. I am running Windows ME on one partition on my box. I used to have forte installed a while ago, btu for some reason I got rid of it. Now I am doing something that I would like to use it as a resource for and I come to find out it is Sun One now. SO I dl it and I go to install and teh installer freezes while looking for J2SDK. So I uninstalled J2SDK and dl the most recent version and reinstalled it. Still does the same thing.
So here is my question: realizing that Sun one is not particularly supported on ME, is that what is causing the install to freeze? If not, do you know what the problem might be? And if Forte installed, why oh why wouldn't Sun One.
If ME is the problem, I have Mandrake Linux on another partition (Yeah, I'd love Red Hat, but it was free and I am broke, so it seemed like a good idea) and it seems that only Red hat is supported. Should I bother downloading and trying to install on Mandrake (I use KDE btw)?

Hi,
I'm running on Mandrake 9.0 without any problems.
There is one anoying issue and thet is that the icons deliverd is in .ico format and I can't figure out how to use them on KDE 3.0

i am trying to install Sun One Studio in my Debian Linux and when i launch the setup application it tells me that i must log in as superuser to install. Well, the thing is that i launch the installer as root, but the program doesn't seem to think the same :)
Surprisingly, the log file doesn'l show any related error; it only shows a warning about some widgets... so this seems to be a simple bug in the installer.

  • Sun One on Linux 8

    Hi all,
Please can any one tell me that Sun One Server can be installed on Linux 8.0 or not.
Actually I want to host ASP pages on Linux so someone told me to buy Sun One web server. Now I want to ask do I have to degrade to Linux 7.3 or Sun One wil work with Linux 8

I'm also using Redhat 8, I did have the web server started and running though I didn't do much testing on it yet. The only problem I had is it can't find libncurses.so.4. I check /usr/lib, there is a libncurses.so.5, so I did a link libncurses.so.4 to point at libncurses.so.5 and the installation worked.

  • DHCP from OS X to Mandrake Linux

    Hi,
I have 2 networks, one using a Mandrake Linux ISC DHCP V3.03 Server and the other a Thomson SpeedTouch Router. If I connect any of my OS X machines to the SpeedTouch network they receive DHCP address. If I connect to the Linux Server network they always get an autoconfigure address. I can look at the Linux server log and I can see the DHCP server offering IP addresses to the OS X machine but the addresses are never acknowledged:
Mar 30 00:21:22 gateway dhcpd: DHCPDISCOVER from 00:03:93:ed:d9:96 (merlin) via eth1
Mar 30 00:21:23 gateway dhcpd: DHCPOFFER on 192.168.1.124 to 00:03:93:ed:d9:96 (merlin) via eth1
Mar 30 00:21:30 gateway dhcpd: DHCPDISCOVER from 00:03:93:ed:d9:96 (merlin) via eth1
Mar 30 00:21:30 gateway dhcpd: DHCPOFFER on 192.168.1.124 to 00:03:93:ed:d9:96 (merlin) via eth1
Mar 30 00:21:32 gateway dhcpd: DHCPREQUEST for 192.168.1.66 from 00:03:93:ed:d9:96 via eth1: unknown lease 192.168.1.66.
Everything else in my home from Tivo to CISCO IP phone to windows laptops to Squeezeboxes all happily get addresses from the Linux DHCP server.
I can see discussions on earlier threads about similar problems but could not see a resolution.
    Your help would be appreciated.
    C.

The Mandrake box is connected to another router on a separate ISP line. ETH1 is the only active network interface on the box ETH0 is disconnected. There is no IPTABLES on the Mandrake setup the firewall is handled by the router. DHCP server on router is disabled and Mandrake provides DHCP/DNS for the whole network.
I modified the configuration slightly recently to make the DHCP server Authoritative for the network and to NACK addresses coming from the other network. When I switch from the ROUTER network to the Mandrake network I can now see a NACK being sent for the 192.168.1.64 address.
In desperation I have set my MacBook to DHCP with Static IP address in Network setup and this seems to work, getting the gateway from the DHCP server.

  • Print from Sun ONE

I am trying to print files from Sun ONE on my laptop running SuSE 8.0. Every time I try to do anything related to print, I get the message 'Print Service not found'. I am wondering if I am missing something or is printing from Sun ONE not supported in Linux environment. Thanks ..

What Sun ONE product are you actually using? Sun ONE is a brand that covers a range of products from a Java IDE to large-scale middleware.

  • Installing Sun One Studio on Linux Mandrake 9.1

I try to install the Sun One Studio 5 on my mandrake 9.1 Linux.
I am using the jdk 1.4.2 and I am logged as root.
    When running the command:
    ./s1s5se-linux-en.bin -isjavahome /home/products/j2sdk1.4.2
    I get the error message:
The installation cannot continue for the following reason(s):
To install Sun ONE Studio 5 you need to log in as superuser or a user with administrator privileges.

Yep I agree this is very disapointing, however I have got Sun One Studio 5 Standard Edition working on Mandrake 9.1
Fortunatley I am lucky enough to have a spare hard drive and RedHat7.2, another pc networked up and the following is what I did....
Installed Redhat7.2, j2sdk1.4.2, then ran the SunOneStudio install as root, tested and works fine.
The Studio gets installed into /opt there are 2 dirs which are needed from what I can tell 1 is the ide "studio5_se" itself and the other called "imq"
cd into the root dir and create a tar file of the opt dir
    tar -cf opt.tar opt
    gzip opt.tar
I then copied the opt.tar.gz to a place I could download to the other machine, so I downloaded it, then shutdown RedHat,
re-installed my original Mandrake9.1 Hard Drive, and booted up.
logged in as root, and then transferred my opt.tar.gz to Mandrake,
untared it into the opt dir and then moved the imq and studio5_se dirs into /opt
    installed j2sdk1.4.2 rpm on Mandrake9.1
    then command line I
    1, cd /opt/studio5_se/bin
    2, ./runide.sh -jdkhome /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2
    and HEY PRESTO
The only reason why I can see that the IDE will not install under mandrake is possible the coding under the Installsheild, maybe it looks for a file or someting that RedHat has and not mandrake, or just tests the OS to see if it is in the supported list, and if not then throws the error
If that is the case then it's proberly likely that it was setup like this because RedHat gives money to sun and not Mandrake????!!!?????
maybe I don't know3 just my observation, but 1 thing I do know is that due to this error I shall not be buying it, until sun change the way to install it or they go back to the old way the Forte installed
    Just my thoughts,
and I hope this helps someone

  • Using Linux/Red Hat/Intel for Sun ONE/Java Directory Server

Anybody have any experience of this? We're looking to get off AIX, and Total Cost of Ownership for using Solaris/Sparc versus Linux/Intel is very similar.
The decider will be if no-one is using Linux as a platform for Sun ONE/Java Directory Server....
    Any feedback would be appreciated....

We run Directory 5.1 in production on Solaris/Sparc, but I've tried it with sucess on Red Hat 7.2 on Intel. We have not been able to get it to work on Red Hat Enterprise 2.1 or 3.0. The main problem has been that the administration server fails on startup. Obvious the lack of support for the latest enterprise class Linux is a huge drawback. At this point I've decided to stay on Solaris/Sparc until Red Hat comes out with its own release of Netscape's Directory. When that happens we're going to evaluate whether to move the whole environment to Red Hat. The Sun and Netscape servers are almost identical in terms of features and performance, but having an open source version that can run on less expensive hardware would be a terrific win for us.

  • Installation sun one studio ver. 5 fail in mandrake

I download sun one studio ver.5 in my mandrake linux ver. 9.0 and I have jsdk1.4.1_03. When I tried install it I received this message:
To install sun one studio 5 you need to log in a superuser or a user with administrator privileges.
I login in a term with root user and also start X session with root user but received this error also.
    any sugestion??

I finally solved the problem by modifying the java source code of the installer. It did unnecessary checks for supported distributions and their versions. After removing these checks, SUN ONE Studio 5 installed and ran properly.
Here is how to do it in short:
    1. Unzip the downloaded binary installation file into some folder. I will refer to this folder as "setuproot".
    2. Starting from the "setuprot" folder, find the file com/ibm/wizard/platform/linux/LinuxRedHatCommands.class.
    3. Decompile this file using the "Jad" Java decompiler. You can find it at http://kpdus.tripod.com/jad.html .
    4. Rename the resulting LinuxRedHatCommands.jad file to LinuxRedHatCommands.java.
    5. Modify LinuxRedHatCommands.java in the following way: Find the method "isValidDistribution()" and replace its whole body with the following line: "return true;" Save the modified file.
    5. Compile the modified java file by executing the following command from the "setuproot" folder: "javac com/ibm//wizard/platform/linux/LinuxRedHatCommands.java"
    6. Now start the installation with the "java run" command from the "setuproot" folder.
Now it should not complain about insufficient administrative privileges.
(A properly installed java1.4.1_02 or above SDK is a requirement for both the Studio5 and for the above instructions to work.)
I still was not able to install the bundled Application Server7, because it's check box was disabled with a comment about my incompatible platform. I guess this will be the next step to resolve...
    Cheers,
    George

There appears to be numerous problems with the libnspr4.dll that involve out-of-date versions of it. Some of the listed posts may have a solution:

  • DB lookup problem with Sun One App. Server 7.0,MySQL3.x - Red hat linux 7.2

    Hi Group,
I have deployed my project in sun one application server 7.0 installed in red hat linux 7.2 and database is mysql. Its working in fine in normal conditions. I could not able to get connection from datasource after I kept my server 10 hours ideal. Again its working fine once I restarted the server. Please give me any solution to prevent this.
The same project is working fine under all conditions in Sun one app server 7.0 installed in windows 2000 server without any look up probem. I Got this problem only in linux OS.

    Context ctx = new InitialContext();
    Datasource testDS = (javax.sql.DataSource)ctx.lookup( "jdbc/testDS");
    Connection con = testDs.getConnection();

    <property value="root" name="user"/>

    </jdbc-connection-pool>
    Regards,
    Hari haran

My team solved the problem and I thought that we would share.
The version of Xalan that was packaged with the JRE, that is installed by the Sun One app server, was at least 2 versions out of date. Updating the Xalan package solves the issue and the WAR file now works.
Again, this appears to be only on the Linux version as the package deploys and works perfectly on the Windows version.

  • Sun ONE App Server 7.0 for Linux - When?

    Hi
the page about the Platform Edition
    http://wwws.sun.com/software/products/appsrvr_pe/home_appsrvr_pe.html
states that Sun ONE App Server supports (Redhat) Linux.
When will there be a download available for Linux?
    Regards
    Steen

    Hi Ralf,
As of today, the official production release downloads fo App Server 7 are available on http://www.sun.com.
The Standard Edition for Development and Evaluation includes an option to download the App Server 7 product combined with Sun ONE Studio 4, Enterprise Edition for Java Update 1.
You can also download the Studio 4 separately and hook it into App Server 7 very easily. See the tutorial included in App Server 7 (<install_dir>/docs/studio-tutorial/) for details.
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Adding a windows client to a sun one Directory server running on Win 2000

    Hi,
I am a newbie to sun one directory server but i am familiar with windows active directory.
I have followed the instructions and installed Sun One Directory Server on Windows 2000 Server using a typical setup and create a domain and also created some users in that domain.
The next thing i wanted to do was to add a windows 2000 professional desktop on this domain and login with one of the user accounts. I tried to adding the computer to the domain via the "My Computer->Network Identification->Properties->Domain" option and gave the domain name as the one i created on the Sun One Directory Server, but i get an error saying that domain was not found.
Am i missing something here. Do i need to install some client piece on the windows 2000 desktop to add the box on the sun one domain and login in as one of the users.
Any help will be deeply appreciated?
    Thanks,
    Raj...

yes, you can use samba for a windows client to login to ldap
    http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html#id2536158
, but for windows XP clients you need to tweak the registry

  • Slow Response Sun ONE 6.1 SP3 Win 2003

My Sun ONE web server is processing my JSP pages very quickly when serving one session at a time. However when there are 4 or more active sessions, it slows right down. Response time goes from 2 seconds (1 active session) to 60 seconds (multiple active sessions) for a single JSP page. I've been running the performance monitor to see if I can notice anything, but nothing seems to stand out. I have tried manipulating the Keep Alive settings and the Performance settings within the Magnus Editor but there hasn't been a noticable improvement.
I've recently upgraded to SP4 to see if this solved my problem, but there was no imporvement.
This server is an HP DL380 with dual 2.8GHz Xeon processors & 2 Gigs of RAM. There is a lot of available disk space. I'm running Windows 2003 and it's up to date with all the latest patches.
Anyone have any ideas or experienced this before?

The JSP's are simply Hello World JSP's (however I created these type of JSP's for testing and they do respond slowly as well when these are multiple sessions).
These JSP functioned fine on iPlanet 6.0 SP1 (JDK 1.2.2) without any slow response on Win2K and inferior hardware.
