Sun Ray Kiosk Mode Timeout Settings

For the Kiosk mode I see two different places for timeout settings. I have copied them in below. My issue is that I am seeing a lot of Login Greeter/Idle Sessions and I think the first "Timeout" setting should be set lower, but I don't want to disconnect good sessions.
One here in the admin gui under "Advanced" and "kiosk mode"
Session:
Sun Ray Connector for Windows OS
Timeout:
24000 seconds
Under that is a place for "Arguments"
where I see:
-t 3600

I recreated the kiosk user accounts (utconfig -k) and the problem has been resolved. Thanks to those who sent comments.

  • Sun Ray kiosk issues

All, I recently installed SRSS 4.2 along with the SRWC package and patches. I enable the kiosk option through the Sun Ray Admin GUI and set a particular user to use kiosk mode. They get the following error after inserting their card:
Error starting kiosk session: Cannot allocate kiosk account
I am able to login NOT using the SRWC (directly to Unix) and start a windows session with uttsc.

I recreated the kiosk user accounts (utconfig -k) and the problem has been resolved. Thanks to those who sent comments.

  • Sun Ray error when connecting to Oracle VDI - No Kiosk Sessions Available

When the Sun Ray DTUs go to connect to the Oracle VDI cluster at times they will throw the error "Error starting Kiosk session: No Kiosk accounts configured." We have tried going through the steps to confirm that the Kiosk sessions are configured on the two secondary hosts but the problem persists. When the Sun Ray DTUs do connect they will work for a while and then when left idle for a period of time will loose their connection and be unable to restart the connection with the error mentioned. The Screen Blanking option on the Sun Ray DTUs is set to "0" to prevent them from going into power-save mode but this makes no difference. The Sun Ray DTUs are all updated with the latest GUI firmware and there are no custom options set in the Sun Ray Session Servers.
The thing that bothers me the most is I have not seen any error messages in the logs. I will post up the logs as links in a follow-up post.
Has anyone had any similar issues while connecting with a Sun Ray DTU?
Currently we are running Oracle VDI 3.2.1 on the cluster.
Here are the commands we used to reset the Sun Ray Kiosk accounts:
    # /opt/SUNWkio/bin/kioskstatus -c
    # /opt/SUNWkio/bin/kioskuseradm status
    # /opt/SUNWkio/bin/kioskuseradm delete
    # /opt/SUNWkio/bin/kioskuseradm create -l utku -g utkiosk -i auto -u –c

I was trying to transfer data from oracle to sql server 2008 on a daily basis.
I have very hard time connecting to oracle from ssis package on windows server 2008. I am almost dead and cannot find any help. i was able to connect to oracle using import/export 64 bit feature of SQL Server 2008 using Oracle provider for OLEDB. But I am not sure why the same does not work with BIDS?
    Here's the environment info:
    1. Oracle Client 10g

    Hi,
On each connection to a windows session with VDI I use the Sun Ray Connector Proxy, each user launch a daemon called uttcpd everytihnings is ok but this daemon is launch on debug mode so my /var/ad/messages is full of usesless debug message. I don't find any option or configuration file on the doc to change the daemon logging mode.

    4. Terminal Server on Win2K3 R2 Standard x64 Edition SP2
I have a handful of users and they all logon the same way, which is to enter username & password then I have the following lines at the end of the users' individual .dtprofile file . . .

. . . But this does not appear to having an affect.
I will be looking around the forums for any other bits of information about this. The "Known Issues" can probably be found in the Release Notes.

  • Blu-ray project - kiosk mode issues

We're in the process of creating an interactive blu-ray video  presentation with Encore CS5.  The project will be shown on a PC with  touch screen, on which  the user will not have any access to keyboard or  mouse, but can control the presentation with the created menus, via the  touch screen. Encore is the perfect tool to setup the entire  presentation, at least until we found out about a silly usability issue:     it's very easy for the user to exit the presentation.  Obviously we  don't want that, as the kiosk will be unattended most of the time.
When we output the project to Flash, Encore will always show the  PlayerControlBar which has the fullscreen toggle, and thus gives the  user the option to exit the full screen mode, and start messing around  with the system. Adobe doesn't allow Encore authors to edit the main  Flash interface player controls, which is a big bummer, else we could  probably simply disable the full screen button and have a suitable  alternative solution (although not as hi-def as Blu-ray).
When outputting as a blu-ray disc, extra player controls will show up on  screen, depending on the player software used. So far we found out that  there is no such thing as kiosk mode in Cyberlink PowerDVD 11, so users  are also here able to cancel the presentation.  I'm not sure about the  few other blu-ray software players out there.
Does anyone have some experience with this?  I guess other people must have had the kiosk mode request before.

Hello friend, generally you can put only 120 min on a bd of 25gb, the real capacity of an bd 25 gb is 23gb, you can put all the video in but u have to tweak your video bit rate when you export your video , i have to export a 129 min timeline with a variable bitrate of 20 and max bitrate of 22 and someday i get lucky somedays not, you will have to learn how to use a bit rate calculator , (google it) cause i dont know it,  so i fine tune video bitrate until it shows me my final render around 19-20 gb or maybe less to be sure choose on sound a lower bitrate 320 or maybe lower and dolby digital and try to mux them (multiplexer option select TS). This is my workflow in general...
U can see that in your video info that your video haves now :
    Bit rate                                 : 21,2 Mbps
Maximum bit rate                         : 22,0 Mbps
    and only 19 gb
Adobe preset is hd 25 i and tries to make a video with target bitrate of 25 and max 30, so it will render more ....

  • JDS Kiosk Mode in Solaris

    Hi,
Not 100% sure this is the correct forum for this, but here goes..
Looking for a solution to a problem we have encountered. We are looking to create our own menu structure on our thin client kiosk sessions.
At the moment, we are running Sun JDS3 on our sunrays, in kiosk mode, using an application list to run some programs. They all appear under an "applications" tab on the menu, and I have added an additional sub menu, named settings. I'm not sure how to add certain applications into this new 'settings' sub menu, instead of them defaulting to the applications menu. Have been trawling the net looking for some solutions, but no luck as of yet.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks in Advance,
    George

  • Black screen, Sun Ray DTUs

Users have complained that if they stop typing or moving the mouse the screen goes black within 30 secs or so.
I verified that SUNWxscreensaver-hacks-gl and SUNWxscreensaver-hacks were removed from the Solaris 10 U7 OS.
All sessions are set for Sun Ray Windows Connector kiosk only mode.
If I delete the Sun Ray Desktop under Desktops and then Terminate the user under Sessions the user has no problems. Though later in the day or maybe a couple of days later somewhere else, another Sun Ray DTU encounters this same issue. I have noticed this now at 3 different sites and we have the latest patches and run SRSS 4.1 and SRWC 2.1.
    Any ideas out there?

I too have noticed this issue. The behavior is the same and my attempts to fix it(firmware screen blanking, monitor settings, Windows settings) have done nothing.
Also using full screen Windows 2008.

  • How can I redirect USB from Sun ray to Win2003 terminal server

    Hi
I am running Sun Ray 4.2 in Solaris with SRWC 2.2 in a Kiosk mod to Windows terminal server 2003 , how can I allow users to use their USB divices from Sun Ray and appear automatically in their Windows desktop ..I try adding the following line to mikioskhdlr_win script
    UTTSCPARMS="-m -b -A 24 -r sound:high" - r disk:M=/tmp/SUNWut/mnt/$USER”
but it did not work .. please help

If you are using the USB Drive Daemon or manually specifying the mount then there are no issues with user access. That's only an issue with the the built in USB pass through included with SRSS 5 which is connecting directly to Windows and in essence the physical machine. The former is just mounting a network drive which is user specific.

  • Sun Desktop Access Client - Language Settings Windows Logon Screen

    Dear All,
i have a little problem with the language setting of my Sun Desktop Acces Client if i try to connect to Windws 2003 Server.
    First some configuration details:
    PC:
    Win XP (german version)
    keyboard layout: german
    Sun Desktop Access Client 1.0
    Server:
    Win 2003 Server (german version)
The Problem is that if connect the server via the SDAC the laguage setting of the logon screen has changed to EN
instead of DE. Using a german keyboard layout causes some trouble.
If i connect to the server via a sun ray dtu (kiosk mode) it works properly.
Has anybody a clue to get rid of this??
    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards
    Ha-Pe

Okay, after a bit of investigation...
You can't have the locale used change automatically according to the local used on the client, the best you can do is assign a default locale for most users and create alternative kiosk sessions with different locales (as a uttsc option) which you can assign to DTUs or SDACs (or to smartcard token ids but SDAC doesn't currently support smartcards).
At least this is what I understand, I'm sure someone will comment if this isn't the case.
If this is good enough you can do this using the utkiosk and the utkioskoverride commands.

  • Firefox remote command in Sun Ray

    Hi all,
I'm trying to solve a problem in a Sun Ray environment. Our program has to use firefox remote to launch a new browser window in addition to an already opened browser window.
But it does not work. No new browser window is opened. Here is output from the standalone build of remote.c (from original Netscape remote control source) as a test program.
    % ./firefox-remote -remote 'openURL(http://www.sun.com,new-window)'
firefox-remote: warning: expected version 1.1 but found version
    5.1 (0xc80049) instead.
    firefox-remote: (writing MOZILLALOCK "pid63258@xavsun" to 0xc80049)
    firefox-remote: (writing MOZILLACOMMAND "openURL(http://www.sun.com,new-window)" to 0xc80049)
firefox-remote: (server 0xc80049 has accepted MOZILLACOMMAND.)
2147500037firefox-remote: (server sent MOZILLARESPONSE "500 command not parseable" to 0xc80049.)
But it works fine if issuing the following command:
    % firefox -remote 'openURL(http://www.sun.com,new-window)'
Also our program and this test program work fine in Sun Blade workstation.
Is there anybody who has experienced this or has some idea what's going on here?
Thanks a lot for your help.
    Jenny

I solved it in kiosk mode adding my locale to the option Locale like this:
    es-ES

  • Problem hotdesking regular session but kiosk mode works fine. Why ?

I have Sun Ray Server 4.2 on RHEL5.
I have the users smart cards configured to use kiosk mode which gives them a Windows desktop via Citrix.
As an admin I have a smart card which is configured to use the regular session which provides the Linux desktop.
Smart cards which are configured to use the kiosk mode, i.e. Citrix, can hotdesk without any problems but any smart cards which are configured to use the regular mode do not work. When you try moving to a new DTU (Sun Ray 2FS client) the connection screen shows it as connected and then a second later it disconnects. It then reconnects a second later and then another second later it disconnects again. This continues for ever. Even if you try re-inserting the smart card in the original DTU the session was started on it does the same connect, disconnect, reconnect, disconnect, etc, etc. All I can then do is to go back to the server and kill the session.
This is a major problem as I want to configure a MultiHead Group and to do this I need to plug the same smart card in to each of the DTU's that will form the group.
Any ideas how I can rectify this would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Mark.

The described behavior indicates that the 'Sun Ray Session Lock' login dialog fails to start.
Please check, if you have installed all the [documented prerequisites|http://wikis.sun.com/display/SRSS4dot2/Additional+Software+Requirements] for SRSS, in particular the openmotif22 package (32-bit version!). You can also try 'ldd /opt/SUNWut/lib/loginGUI' to directly check for missing libraries.
If you can't get the loginGUI to work, you can also disable session access protection on hotdesking: check the 'Direct Session Access Allowed' checkbox on the Advanved/Policy page of the Admin GUI or use the -D option with utpolicy. Beware that this reduces session security on hotdesking (for both kiosk and non-kiosk sessions) significantly.

  • How Configure Kiosk Mode to join an other linux server (by Xnest)

    Hello,
I have a sun-ray server (srss 5.2 on Centos 5.6). I want my sun-ray clients to join a linux server by my sun-ray server. I think I can do that by using 'Kiosk Mode' with Xnest.
Can you explain me how I can configure Kiosk Mode with a Xnest Session ?
Are there some sites which deals about Kiosk mode configuration with examples ?
    Thans in advance,
    Alex

    Hi Leo Laohoo
I think it is getting IP address
    Not in Bound state.
*Mar  1 00:04:08.123: %CAPWAP-3-DHCP_RENEW: Could not discover WLC using DHCP IP. Renewing DHCP IP.
    *Mar  1 00:04:18.127: %CAPWAP-3-ERRORLOG: Invalid event 38 & state 2 combination.

it saids it is getting the 10.0.0.13, but can not discover the WLC.... why it is not discovering it???
    that's my problem.
The AP is directly connected into the switch. there is no more connections beside this one. the WLC (Catalyst 3850) hasta the DHCP configuration, so, I don´t need an external DHCP server.
How do I know that the WLC module is enable on the Catalyst??? I activate the 90 ap evaluation license.

  • Kiosk Mode in 4.2 on RHEL5: "No profile for user 'utku1' found" ?

    Hello,
After upgrading from SRSS 4.1 to 4.2 EA2 on RHEL5 I experience that all attempts of Kiosk sessions to start fail with an error "No profile for user 'utku1' found" being logged in /var/opt/SUNWkio/home/utku1/.xsession-errors, and also displayed in a popup on desktop.
I have disabled the Kiosk mode, then deleted all Kiosk accounts with ./utconfig -k, and re-created them. Then I have verified that the users exist in /etc/passwd, and that their login directories exist with the correct permissions (they are created by utconfig).
Still, after a reboot of the SunRay server the error persists. Also, I have noticed that the home directories of utku? users disappear once a thin client has attempted to login unsuccessfully using such a Kiosk user.
Searching in the relevant forums and googling did not hit me with a clue-stick so far. Is this a problem related to SRSS itself, or actually a problem the configuration GTK desktop?
    Thank you for any hint.
    Rolf

I had the same problem a few minutes ago.
My configuration is a Sun Ray server running on RHEL 5.4, configured in Kiosk mode and forwarding connections to a Windows 2003 terminal server.

I created a symbolic link like this:
    n -s /lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8e /lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.7 and I performed a cold restart on the sun ray.
Connections to the Windows server work now.
On the other hand if i wish to allow connections to the Linux server itself, then I unconfigure the kiosk policy.
    I hope this helps.

    hi sorry for delay
as per the this default sunray kiosk mode their is two way's that you can change, either you can rename the "Applications" option or you can change to another option "Setting" but you must have to select any one. as per this design.
    I . for Rename:
    #cd /etc/opt/SUNWkio/prototypes/jds3/.kiosk/menus/applications
    #vi .directory
    [Desktop Entry]
    Name=Applications -> <any name>
    Comment=Kiosk Applications
    Icon=gnome-applications
    Type=Directory
    or
    # mv /etc/opt/SUNWkio/prototypes/jds3/.kiosk/menus/applications /etc/opt/SUNWkio/prototypes/jds3/.kiosk/menus/meapplications
II. if you want to change the default selection you can change hear.
    # vi /etc/opt/SUNWkio/sessions/jds3/applauncher
<find the below line in this script file.
    KIOSKMENUDIR=$HOME/.kiosk/menus
KIOSKAPPMENUDIR=$KIOSKMENUDIR/Applications -> Setting (example: change the application to setting it will added in this setting by default.)
In addition to that you can create your Owen kiosk application as per your recruitment for that review the kiosk application documents.

  • Sun Ray - How to get external USB Card Reader working

    Dear All,
i have the following problem. Maybe someone could help me or give me a clue to solve it.
    SunRay Software 5 installed
    Window 2003 R2 TerminalServer
    Here my question:
I use a kiosk session with a smart card to conncet to the windows server - works perfect.
    Login Screen and go.
Now i have to have to authenticate myself with an external usb card reader and smart
card (connected to the sun ray) to use a certain application on my win2003 server.
Via the windows rdp session (from the laptops) everthing is ok. The information from
the card reader is transferred to the server.
If i use the Sun Ray nothing happens. So here is my problem:
How do get the authentication information from the smart card to the server?
    Thanks in advance
    Best regards
    Hans-Peter

Basically, reinstall the Boot Camp video drivers manually and if that doesn't work then go to the AMD/Radeon website and install the Windows drivers directly for your video card model.
If you want to do a search you will find others that have pretty good luck doing it either way.
