Sun Solaris 10 installation problem on IBM ThinkPad R31Notebook
Hello,
I have tried to install Sun Solaris 10 on my IBM ThinkPad R31 notebook, but the system has problem at initial stage of loading the installation software from CD. Here is the message I see on the screen when the CD is loaded:

I changed both memory and the hard drive but I still have the same problem. Can anyone please tell me what the problem might be or what remedial step I should take to install Solaris 10 on R31?
Thanks
Did you try install check CD before the installation?
I think that there might be two main reasons:
1. Your computer is not supported
2. Hard drive may need to be formated to FAT32 or UFS

Solaris 10 installation problem on IBM Thinkpad - T43
Dear All,
I have a major problem while installing Solaris 10 on my IBM T43 Laptop. Here is my problem:
- I boot from Solaris 10 DVD
- I select the option "Solaris" from the grub menu
- I get 6 installation options
1. Solaris interactive(Default)
2. Custom jumpstart
3. Solaris interactive text(desktop session)
4. Solaris interactive console
5. Driver update
6. Single user shell
- I select option 1(solaris interactive)
- After some processing, I get the "proposed configuration" screen, and an option to accept/reject it.
- I reject the proposed configuration and, as a result enter the "kdmconfig" wizard.
- After this screen, I tried selecting various resolutions, but no matter, I get a blank screen in place of the graphical installation wizard after quitting kdmconfig.
As a result, I am never given a chance to install solaris at all. Can anyone you please dig me out of this hole?
Regards,
Thejasvi Vafter some time a console login came with no graphics
I logged in with root and password everything went ok
but still no graphics was there then console
automatically tried to lunch the x windows by giving
message starting x login in display 0x...... butWhile you still have no graphics type, /usr/dt/bin/dtconfig -d as fast as you can and press enter. This will prevent the GUI from starting. Then type kdmconfig and set your parameters. Then use the "test" button to see if the settings that you chose actually do anything. If they just result in a blank screen or a system freeze, then head over to Linux Laptops and search for your Laptop brand.
Most of the systems on that site have thier X.org configuration online available for viewing. This will help guide you to setting up your graphics/monitor on your system.

Oracle 8.1.7/9iAS installation problem on IBM AIX 5.1 - loadext fails
Dear colleagues,
tried to install Oracle 8.1.7 and then Oracle 9iAS over AIX 5.1 on IBM eServer p-series. The installation fails in the very beginning - loadext for post-wait Kernel Extension (/etc/pw-syscall) fails with 'exec format error'. Documentation states 'AIX 4.3.3 or later required', no clear indication for AIX5, though. Any ideas or suggestions?
I understand, it is possible to roll back to AIX 4.3.3, although machine came with 5.1 pre-installed.
AlexeiI had the same problem and finally used the loadext program from the 64-bit cpio-archive (Disk1). Just replace the file and startover again.
It worked and still works!
Hope this helps. -

what could be the problem?The installer is actually a self-extracting Zip-archive. It tries to unpack
itself into /var/tmp/something-random, before starting the actual
installation.
If you do not have enough free space in /var/tmp, try creating a temporary
directory somewhere else, move the installer into the new directory, and do
an 'unzip server70..............bin'. Once you have unzipped the installer,
I think you can look in a file called AUTORUN or something for the java
command to run the installer manually.
Good luck,

How to install Solaris 8 on IBM Thinkpad T20 laptop
Hello,
I would like to install Solaris 8 on my IBM Thinkpad T20 laptop and I am facing two kinds of problems:
-1- I cannot boot on the Matshushita DVDROM which is shipped with : i have got a boot panic ;
-2- My SAVAGE/IX 8MB Video Card is not recognised.
ANY HELP APPRECIATED
[email protected]Hi There,
Although laptops are not officially supported, I am aware that another
customer managed to install their system over a network connection
due to local CDROM issues.
This may be something to try if you have access to another SOlaris System with a local CDROM.
As for the Video Card, I have not found any records of anyone
else attempting to use this particular chipset and so you may be
limited to just standard VGA in this case.

Has anyone successfully installed Solaris 8 on IBM Thinkpad X20? Anything can been shared? I have Windows 2000 Professional on it already, and two empty partitions as well.
Thanks!I have installed Solaris 8 on a IBM ThinkPad 390 with a NeoMagic MagicMedia256AV graphics card. I had to use a third part X-server from Xi-Graphics to get it to work. As a general rule, nothing is working without drivers/software from a third part or two.

Kalpesh MehtaI had similar problems several months ago. I suspect this happens when host pc does not have floppy drive(or bios somehow misreports it) as it was in my case. Solaris 8 seems to work fine in the same environment, so I keep using it for now. Possible workaround might be to use DCA from Solaris 8: Installation of Sol9 started just fine after I entered Sol8 DCA and asked it to boot from Sol9 CD.
Hope this problem will be fixed in subsequent Sol9 releases.

OracleiSuitesHTTPServer
OracleOraHome81TNSListener
I also tried to start the HTTP server from the command line but got the following error:

Help needed on installation of Oracle 9i on Sun Solaris 8
Hey,
Help needed on installation of Oracle 9i EE on Sun Solaris 8. The problem I met was: we followed the installation guide from the documentation. And we selected the choice "install software only". After it was done successfully, we run Database Configuration Assistant utility to create a database instance. But finally it always tried to create the instance at the root directory ( / ) which doesn't have enough space and then failed. The case was that we have set the enviroment parameters: $ORACLE_BASE = /export/mydata, $ORACLE_HOME = /export/apps/oracle9i. That means it should be installed at /export/mydata, but it didn't. Any help or advice are welcome. Thanks.
SimonI have downloaded Oracle 11G R2 version from Windows and extracted it in Windows and copied it into DVD after extraction in two folders. Now I am mounting that DVD in Solaris 10 installed in my VMware . I made a new directory named as 'installation ' under /export/home/oracle and copied the folders from DVD to 'installation' folder. Now I am entering installation folder and try to do ./runInstaller as 'oracle ' user and getting the error mentioned before.

Solaris 8 on Intel STL2 server board - installation problem
Hi,
I try to install Solaris 8 (4/01) on Intel STL2 server board (P III 866 MHz, SDRAM 512 ECC Reg, Adaptec AIC7899 Dual Channel-one Ultra160/LVD channel, Intel PRO/100+ Fast Ethernet Controller, ATI Rage* IIC SVGA) - without success.
It recognizes all devices but after I choose Solaris Interactive installation (from CD labeled Solaris 8 Software 1 of 2 Intel Platform Edition) it displays:
Booting kernel/unix...
SunOS Release 5.8 Version...
then reboots after 2 seconds.
Since Intel STL2 board appears in the HCL for Solaris 8 I have struggled a while with the problem. I have not found neither post nor driver update information concerning this issue on the Solaris' related Web sites.
Finally, I found the very strange specification update info of STL2 board, published by Intel:
"13. Sun* Solaris* 8 installation issues
PROBLEM: Sun Solaris 8 cannot be installed on the STL2 server board with any BIOS version later than BIOS Release 1.1, Build 15. The system reboots during install and therefore the installation cannot be completed.
IMPLICATION: Installation of Sun Solaris 8 cannot be completed on an STL2 server board running any BIOS release later than BIOS Release 1.1, Build 15.
WORKAROUND: Sun Solaris* 8 will successfully install on the STL2 server board with BIOS Release 1.1, Build 15."
My BIOS release on the STL2 board is 1.7. It's too new to install Solaris 8 !?!
I am unable to get an old STL2 model with BIOS 1.1. Is there a way to update anything in the Solaris 8 in order to set it up on the new model of Intel STL2 server platform?
I would appreciate any help. Thanks.
MattThe problem has been resolved.
I got the older BIOS 1.1 Build 15 for Intel STL2 from Intel Internet Support. After I installed BIOS 1.1 instead of BIOS 1.7 had no problem with installation of Solaris 8.

Thanks so much for this.I am running a pair of Sun Ray 170's on my desk

to access and run apps on a win3k server in the same rack.

Gavin,
This looks like a known problem with TTA 4.00.903 and some Solaris
patches which were distributed at about the same time. However, you say
you're using 4.10.903, and as far as I know the problem should be fixed
in that version.
You could try the workaround described in
http://www.tarantella.com/documentation/sgd/ee/4.0/install.html - search
for "tta_pkgadd" on that page and follow the instructions given there.

UCM 10gR3 installation problem on Solaris
Hi,
I have a problem installing Oracle Content Server 10gR3. When I run the setup script:
*$ cd <path>/UCM/ContentServer/solaris-x86/*

I get the following error:

I am running Solaris 10 on VirtualBox, and I have Oracle Database 10gR2 Installed. JDK 1.5.0_20 is installed with Solaris, but I have tried different JDK's, with no use.
I tried setting the CLASSPATH environment variable to ".;/usr/jdk/latest/lib;/usr/jdk/latest/jre/lib", and running the script again, but I got the same result.
Any Ideas?

Thank you
Ravindran KanniahIt is because of UNIX shell. I also faced this error during installation.
First check your shell by the following command.
$ echo $SHELL
Then select the below.
For csh shell
$ setenv DISPLAY 192.168.1.128:0.0
$ export DISPLAY
For sh,ksh and bash
$ DISPLAY=192.168.1.128:0.0
$ export DISPLAY
After you do this check the value of DISPLAY variable.
$ echo $DISPLAY
If the DISPLAY variable is set then run ./runInstaller.
One advice: Keep a complete log of your terminal session. This will help you in future :)
