  • How to configure tape to sun solaris server?

    Hi
    We have a tape "Quantum Super DLT 600 tape drive" connected to Sun solaris 9 and working properly.
    Now we want to connect and configure it to Sun solaris 10 server. I want to know how we can do it?
    I checked in st.conf file , "#tape-config-list=" is commented in both solaris 9 while in solaris 10 it is not there.
    I think i will just have to connect the tape to new srver(solaris 10) and do a reconfiguration boot. Right??
    Also, what do i need to do for connecting the tape back to solaris 9 server.
    Thanks

    You really don't need to reboot the server. Connect the tape to the server and type devfsadm -Cv. Then type dmesg and check whether Solaris detect the tape or not.
    if not do a reboot and see.
    after doing one of above, insert a tape to the tape drive and type "mt stat" and see you got any output about a tape.
    Refer Solaris 9 and Solaris 10 System Administration Guides.

  • Sun Solaris Server Running Oracle 9i

    If I am running Oracle 9i, what version of Oracle can I install on my MS Windows desktop to access it. Should I purchase and install Oracle 9i Client? Is there a free download available? My Oracle 9i includes Application Server and the regular CD packs.
    We also have a Windows NT server running Oracle 8i. Same question to access it, for a PC must I install Oracle 8i Client? Is there Oracle client software I can get that will interface with the 9i and 8i servers?

    I'm also wondering about 10g's ASM. Is that
    something recommended. We have alot of in-house
    hardware expertise, and the idea of using Automated
    Storage Management seems too simplistic at first
    glance.It sounds like you have SAN experts.
    ASM simply compensates for
    1) the need for a clustered file system in the RAC case; and
    2) SAs and Storage Admins 'experts' who recommend stuff like RAID 5 as being best for a database (as compared to 1+0) and then argue that the SAN is great because of the huge cache ... not realizing that the cache is compensating for the RAID 5 deficiencies.
    You see, ASM simply provides you with a file system in the case when no file system is available (raw disk). It can complement, or replace, the SAN environment.
    I strongly encourage you to look at the ASM manual supplied with 11g in depth. The conclusion is pretty common, and pretty commonly wrong. However, as with everything else in Oacle, the only true answer is 'it depends'. (Docs are available at http://docs.oracle.com or http://tahiti.oracle.com)

  • Make File for C,Pro*C, Files in Solaris Server

    HI,
    I would like to know how to write a Make File for C,Pro*C Files in Sun Solaris Server.
    Thanks,
    Vijaya.

    The man page for make
    % man make
    has a brief description of using make.
    The Programming Utilities Guide has a more detailed description:
    [http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/805-4035/6j3r2rqnc?a=view]
    For a tutorial, you can get the O'Reilly book "Managing Projects with make"
    [http://www.amazon.com/Managing-Projects-make-Andrew-Oram/dp/0937175900/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1222458409&sr=1-2]
    [http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Managing-Projects-with-Make/Steve-Talbott/e/9780937175187/?itm=5]
    O'Reilly publishes a similar book specifically for the Gnu version of make, "Managing Projects with make", available from the usual sources.
    Sun Studio comes with dmake, which has extensions that allow distributing a project build over multiple computers, and running multiple steps in parallel on the same computer. The manual for it is here:
    [http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-5273/aexaz?l=en&q=dmake+doc&a=browse]
    Pro*C is not a Sun product. It is from Oracle, and you should ask Oracle for advice on using it.

    Yoav Zilberman

    Hi Yoav,
    SQL1390C  The environment variable DB2INSTANCE is not defined or is invalid.
    please check your environment settings.
    The SAP processes will find the DB2 CLI libraries either through
    (1) >= 7.00 kernel only
    /usr/sap/<SID>/global/db6/                ( default path for DB2 CLI driver )
    (2)
    DB2INSTANCE = db2<dbsid>            ( DB2 runtime client )
    In this case the instance directory ~$DB2INSTANCE/sqllib  needs to exist .
    (3) >= 7.00 kernel only
    DB2_CLI_DRIVER_INSTALL_PATH    ( CLI driver path )
    If none of those can be applied. The libraries may be found using the LD_LIBRARY_PATH .
    In this case the libraries can be loaded but the message files can not be found and every SQL error results in SQL10007N .

  • BPEL Server installation on JBOSS application Server on SUN SOLARIS

    I have a question about Oracle BPEL installation. For our project exists the requirement, to install BPEL Server on SUN SOLARIS, whereby the appropriate Version of Application server JBOSS already exists and it should be used.
    The version of the Oracle BPEL server for JBOSS, which we found on the Download side, is made available only with JBOSS (version 3.2.6) in a Package.
    During the BPEL server installation this bound JBOSS server version is installed automatically, without giving selection. Is there a BPEL installation for JBOSS on SUN-SOLARIS, which can be installed at the already existing JBOSS server?

    Hi There,
    Dis you get any good responces to your question ?

  • Unable to connect Informatica on Sun Solaris to a SQL Server datasource

    Background*
    We have a fully operational OBIEE with OBIA Apps infrastructure running with Informatica PC8.6 ETL suite. Informatica services are running on a Sun Solaris 64 bit platform.
    We currently extract data from two Oracle EBS 11.5.10 sources. Now we are trying to extract data from a new MS SQL Server 2000 source into the OBAW.
    Problem*
    I'm trying the use the native ODBC 5.2 Data Direct driver to connect the the data source.
    I've gone through and completed the 9 steps of the 'Connecting to an ODBC Data Source' chapter in Informatica on our Solaris Unix box.
    I've made the following changes to the *.profile*
    # ODBC HOME
    ODBC_HOME=/oracle/Informatica/PowerCenter8.6.0/ODBC5.2
    export ODBC_HOME
    ODBC_INI=/oracle/Informatica/PowerCenter8.6.0/ODBC5.2/odbc.ini
    export ODBC_INI
    PATH=${PATH}:$ODBC_HOME/bin
    export PATH
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=${LD_LIBRARY_PATH}:$ODBCHOME/lib
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    I've also made changes to the odbc.ini file as suggested:
    [MSS_DB]
    Driver=/oracle/Informatica/PowerCenter8.6.0/ODBC5.2/lib/DWmsss22.so
    Description=DataDirect 5.2 SQL Server Wire Protocol

    ConnectionRetryDelay=3
    Database=MIS_Report_DB
    LoadBalancing=0
    LogonID=myuser
    Password=mypwd
    QuotedId=No
    ReportCodePageConversionErrors=0
    InstallDir=/oracle/Informatica/PowerCenter8.6.0/ODBC5.2
    I've created the Connection--> Relational --> ODBC connection on Workflow Manager
    I've specified the username/pwd and connect string MssServer.xxx.co.uk@MIS_Report_DB. I've called it exactly the same as MSS_DB specified in the odbc.ini
    When I run the workflow. It fails but doesn't throw up any error/error code in the session log. The last 3 lines of the Session Log below and then it just bombs out within 5 secs.
    PETL_24006 : Starting data movement.
    TM_6660 : Total Buffer Pool size is 4234808 bytes and Block size is 468312 bytes.
    DBG_21438 : Reader: Source is [MssServer.xxx.co.uk], user [myuser]
    If you ping from the Unix server it says 'MssServer.xxx.co.uk is alive'
    Can anyone suggest what we need to do different or spot something obvious?

  • Moving Oracle 9i database from AIX server to Sun Solaris 9 server

    I want to move my oracle 9i database residing on AIX server to Sun Solaris 9 server.
    The database residing on AIX server has the following features :-
    1. It is a production database.
    2. Running in NOARCHIVE LOG Mode.
    3. It was Live for few weeks, hence transactions are stored on it.
    4. It has one schema,around 700 tables & 129 views.....etc
    5. Huge downtime is affordable.
    What is the safest way to do so ??
    Yachendra

    Hi Yachendra,
    1. It is a production database.
    2. Running in NOARCHIVE LOG Mode.By the way do you have any idea that PRODUCTION databases are always kept in ARCHIVE LOG Mode. It's is highly advice able.
    3. It was Live for few weeks, hence transactions are stored on it.If you are really serious about your data and don't want to lose anything and wants to perform CROSS PLATFORM you must make sure that you have all your achive logs.
    my oracle 9i database residing on AIX serverYou have already got the solution regarding that. Maran has told you for EXPORT/ IMPORT and Burleson has given you enough documents to consult.

  • How to install Apache Web Server with PHP on Sun Solaris Sparc machine

    Hi,
    We are trying to install the Apache Web Server and the PHP package on a Sun Solaris Sparc machine running on SunOS 5.8. We are having compilation problems with the source code of both these packages.
    Does anybody know if there are ready solaris packages for Apache and PHP available from where we can download and install instead of source code compilation?
    Or any instructions / things to watch for when installing Apache with PHP (if anybody has tried installing Apache with PHP on Sun Solaris earlier) is most welcome.
    Thanks,
    Harish

    Apache should be bundled along with Solaris check in "/var/apache" in Solaris 8 and Solaris 9
    php is available at www.php.net
    I found an old document for installing PHP maybe this will help.
    Cheers
    -Dhruva
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Installing PHP 3.x for Apache 1.x.x on Solaris
    Introduction
    This document describes how to install PHP for Apache on Solaris.
    You should have Apache installed before trying to install PHP.
    If you want to use PHP with MySQL then you must install MySQL first.
    Before we Begin
    1. These instructions assume that you have Apache installed according to instructions.
    Getting PHP
    1. You must be logged in as root to perform this installation.
    su root
    2. I save all my downloads in:
    /usr/local/dist
    If you don't already have one, you may need to create that directory now:
    mkdir /usr/local/dist
    3. You can get PHP 3.0.14 from here(www.php.net).
    cd /usr/local/dist
    ftp ftp.php.net
    cd pub/distributions
    bin
    get php-3.0.14.tar.gz
    bye
    Installing PHP
    1. We will install PHP in /usr/local/build, but use a tricky tar command
    to do it in on hit from the download directory:
    cd /usr/local/dist
    tar xvfz php-3.0.12.tar.gz -C ../build
    Compiling PHP
    1. First let's get where the action is:
    cd /usr/local/build/php-3.0.14
    2. You now have 3 options:
    * Simple PHP install without MySQL - goto step 3
    * Simple PHP install with MySQL - goto step 4
    * Custom PHP install - goto step 5
    3. Simple PHP install without MySQL. Next, jump to step 6.
    ./configure --with-apache=../apache_1.3.12
    4. Simple PHP install with MySQL. MySQL must be installed before you can configure PHP to use it. I recommend that MySQL should always be reachable with /usr/local/mysql. Even if you install it else where you
    should create a symbolic link from /usr/local/mysql. Otherwise the compiler can have problems finding the mysqlclient library. The command
    should look like this:
    ./configure with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql with-apache=../apache_1.3.12
    Next, jump to step 6.
    5. Custom PHP install. Take a look at the available configuration directives by using this command:
    ./configure --help
    6. Now we can make the PHP executable. This may take a while.
    make
    7. Now we install the PHP module with:
    make install
    Adding the PHP Module to Apache
    1. Now we have to setup Apache to include the PHP module:
    cd ../apache_1.3.12
    2. Re-configure Apache to use the PHP module. You should use your previous Apache configure command along with the PHP activate module directive.
    You can see your previous Apache configure command by doing:
    cat config.status
    You can configure Apache using the previous command with the added PHP module by doing:
    ./config.status --activate-module=src/modules/php3/libphp3.a
    If you used the simple Apache install from instructions the command will look like this:
    ./configure prefix=/usr/local/apache activate-module=src/modules/php3/libphp3.a
    3. Make and install Apache with PHP enabled:
    make
    4. We need to stop the server before installing the files:
    /usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl stop
    5. Now we can install the new binaries:
    make install
    6. Start apache again (now running the new php enabled version):
    /usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl start
    Setting Up PHP
    1. We have to tell Apache to pass certain file extensions to PHP. We do this in Apache's httpd.conf file.
    cd /usr/local/apache/conf
    2. Edit the httpd.conf file. If you do a search for php you will find a couple of commented out lines telling Apache to use the PHP module. You should uncomment them to look like this.
    AddType application/x-httpd-php3 .php3
    AddType application/x-httpd-php3-source .phps
    3. I prefer to use the extension .phtml, you can use whatever extension you like (even .html) by adding lines to httpd.conf like this:
    AddType application/x-httpd-php3 .phtml
    Check that it Works
    1. We have to restart Apache to make these changes take effect on the running server.
    cd /usr/local/apache/bin
    ./apachectl restart
    2. Apache should now be running with PHP enabled. The server version should include PHP/3.0b2.
    ./apachectl status
    Apache Server Status for dev.synop.com
    Server Version: Apache/1.3.9 (Unix) PHP/3.0.12
    Server Built: Oct 25 1999 00:37:07
    3. Now it is time to test PHP with a page. The simplest thing to do is create a page called test.php3. My file is here. This file contains the
    following text:
    <?php phpinfo(); ?>
    4. Point your browser at this file on the virtual host which you used:
    http://localhost/test.php3

    Setup.product.install, Utility, err, unable to launch: "ksh export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/siebel/siebelv8/siebsrvr/lib;PATH=${PATH}:.;/var/tmp/isjAAAC8aGVc/bin/java -Dtemp.dir=/var/tmp -cp /siebel/siebelv8/siebsrvr/bin/setup.jar run -args LANG=ENU REPEAT=FALSE MODE=LIVE MODEL_FILE=/siebel/siebelv8/siebsrvr/admin/siebel_server_sia.scm" error code: "255"(SBL-STJ-00152)
    I have tried to uninstall Siebel and re-install Siebel couple of times. I got the above same error all the time.
    Searching on supportWeb, I don't find much information regarding "error code: "255"(SBL-STJ-00152)"
    Does anyone know what does "error code: "255"" mean?
    Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve it?
    Appreciate all your help.
    Thanks in advance!!

    No....I don't find any port conflict.
    However, in the log.txt I saw the following error at the beginning of the log:

    Not sure if that is a problem but the installation went fine.
    Just when I tried to configure Siebel Server, I got the execution failed with the error that I mentioned in my first posting.
