SUN Storage 7000 stuck on GRUB Stage2

Hi all,
after a reboot due to a system stuck the storage stops at "GRUB Loading stage2..." any suggestion?
Many thanks.
d.

Yes the above answer is correct you will need to connect via a the serial port to see the CLI interface. If you connect a monitor
to the vga port, all you will see once the system is booted is the GRUB words.
Refer to the install guide here which contains more information on this.

  • New major release of Sun Storage 7000 software is available

I noticed a new major release of the Sun Storage 7000 software is available at the website below.
    http://wikis.sun.com/display/FishWorks/Sun+Storage+7000+Series+Software+Updates.

The format change is for BDB Java Edition 5.0 only, and does not apply to other BDB products. It's forward compatible, which means that a BDB JE application using JE 5.0 can use environments written with older versions of JE. However, it's not backwards compatible; once your environment has been opened by JE 5.0, it's been converted to the new format, and can no longer be readable by older versions of JE.
Just for the benefit of others who may not have read the changelog, here's the full text:
JE 5.0.34 has moved to on-disk file format 8.
The change is forward compatible in that JE files created with release 4.1 and earlier can be read when opened with JE 5.0.34. The change is not backward compatible in that files created with JE 5.0 cannot be read by earlier releases. Note that if an existing environment is opened read/write, a new log file is written by JE 5.0 and the environment can no longer be read by earlier releases.
There are two important notes about the file format change.
The file format change enabled significant improvements in the operation performance, memory and disk footprint, and concurrency of databases with duplicate keys. Environments which contain databases with duplicate keys must run an upgrade utility before opening an environment with this release. See the Performance section for more information.
An application which uses JE replication may not upgrade directly from JE 4.0 to JE 5.0. Instead, the upgrade must be done from JE 4.0 to JE 4.1 and then to JE 5.0. Applications already at JE 4.1 are not affected. Upgrade guidance can be found in the new chapter, "Upgrading a JE Replication Group", in the "Getting Started with BDB JE High Availability" guide.I may not have fully understood your question, so let us know if that doesn't answer it.

  • Is Sun Storage 7000 Storage replication adapter compatible with 2540 series

We are evaluating VMWare Site Recovery Manager 4.0. Is Sun Storage 7000 Storage replication adapter compatible with 2540 Sun Storage series?

I would say the short answer would be no. The 2540 is a LSI based device, the SRM adapter for that is written by LSI. The 7000
series array is based on OpenSolaris and ZFS, quite a different beast.

  • Don't upgrade to Sun Storage 7000 Series 2009.04.10.2.1!

The latest release of AmberRoad firmware (Sun Storage 7000 Series 2009.04.10.2.1) leads to a performance regression. It's recommended not update at this time. See the Fishworks Documentation for more information: http://wikis.sun.com/display/FishWorks/Sun+Storage+7000+Series+Software+Updates

The last two releases (2009.Q2.2.1 and 2009.Q2.2.0) of the AR firmware show poor iSCSI performance.
I therefor recommend to use release 2009.Q2.1.1.

    Hi.
    See http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E22471_01/index.html
All array 7000 use same software. Different only hardware configuration and some hardware specific features:
Possible or not add: Readzilla, writezilla, configure cluster.

  • Reboot stuck at GRUB Loading stage2

I am trying to install OEL 5 u 4. I downloaded the .iso image to install it on vmware workstation. I configured it as given in
    http://startoracle.com/2007/09/30/so-you-want-to-play-with-oracle-11gs-rac-heres-how/
After installing the package when I hit reboot it's stuck on "Grub Loading Stage 2 .....". I am new to this installation and not sure how to proceed further. Could you please help?

At what step are you talking about? If you are getting a GRUB hang at step #19 from that note then the O/S did not install properly.
    1) Delete the virtual disk.
    2) Create a new virtual disk with the same characteristics as the original disk.
    3) Reinstall the O/S and be sure to put the GRUB bootloader into the MBR.
    4) Reboot the VM guest.
During the GRUB booting sequence there is very little software involved and everything must just work even to get far enough to get some reasonable debugging info.
You might have better luck using http://www.virtualbox.org Virtual Box.
    Cheers

  • Recreate pool problem on a 7110 Sun Storage

    Hi,
we have a Sun 7110 that runs mostly well, except when the iscsi volume fills up, the volume stop, and we have to drop it and recreate it. 3 weeks ago, to counter that, I switched on dedup and compression. No idea if it is a good or bad idea, but because we got lots of i/o hanging on the volume :
    - we tried to drop again the volume via the web interface.
    - after destroying it, impossible to recreate it, so we switch to the shell to see what's going on. In fact all space was filled up into the "zombie" share (pool-0/???/zombie). No idea what it is, because we never got snapshots. And the cpu was still in the roof like it was still compressing, deduplicating or what...
    - we decided to connect to destroy the whole pool (with difficulty), and the CPU stop working as crazy
Now impossible to recreate it via the web interface.
    - i can create the pool with zpool and create volume with zfs but they don't show up in the interface
    - if we destroy again and try to create it in the web interface, we have of course no pool in the "Available pool", so I try to create it BUT i can't:
    Model     Sun Storage 7110
    Data Devices     -
    Log Devices     -
    Cache Devices     -
as is there weren't any disks!
I checked : the disks are ok from the OS point of view (/var/ak/logs/debug.sys doesn't complain for example, except for a spare disk that I labeled back)
Any idea how to "reset" the storage pool?
Do I must go through the "factory reset" (I'm not even sure it can help).
Or should I forgot Sun/oracle appliance kit, and install freenas instead? :-)
Any help will be appreciate (or similar concerns :-) )

    I answer to myself:
    factory reset solved the problem.

  • Mac os 10.5 accessing sun storage via smb

    Dears
I have three mac 10.3.9 machines .those can access a sun storage device normallyin the same local net using smb.I installed another system 10.5 on those machines, but unfortunately trying to connect to the sun storage you can see the connecting bar for a very long time with no response.I installed a new mac Leopard 10.5.2 machine in the same network , and this last computer can connect to the storage server .So I upgraded the three one's to 10.5.2 with no improvemnt , even to 10.5.5.Those three if restarting as 10.3.9 can be connected .all network settings were checked.
    appreciating in advance your help.
    yahya

I apologize for the delay in responding to you.  I was on the road all day yesterday.
OK.  I switched the printer's Ethernet cable to a Linksys Switch (Model EZX S55W) that's part of this local network.  That did not work.  I swapped out the cable for one that I know works.  Still no change.  I switched the printer's Ethernet cable directly to a port on the router.  No change.  I even swapped cables here, too, but no success.
As I was doing all this, I was wondering: When I select the HP P1606dn printer in the Print and Fax "Add" dialog box, (see the image below) and the Print Using pulldown menu displays "Please select a driver or printer model" and the message "Searching for new drivers" appears under it (with the spinning wheel), why is it that the Ethernet connection to printer is critical to "finding" a new (printer) driver?
Isn't the utility searching through my system and libraries looking for a printer driver app for the printer that I identified/selected in the dialog box?
After all, if the dialog box lists the printer among those to choose from, hasn't the utility already discovered the printer via the Ethernet connection?

    Hello Everyone!
Currently, we are planning to implement a project about Visualization using Oracle VM.
As the Sun Storage 2540 M2 uses FC channel to share its luns from storage, we are not sure on how to discover those share storage luns to be use in Oracle VM manager and Oracle VM Server.

  • Sun Storage Common Array Manager software

trying to configure two storage arrays and cannot find the original disks
found the website with link to the Sun Storage Common Array Manager software
    http://www.oracle.com/us/products/servers-storage/storage/san/fc/common-array-manager/resources/index.html
but it is a dead link...
now i need this software or the two storage arrays cannot be reconfigured
maintenance for them have lapse so my oracle support is not an option
any links to be able to obtain the software... doesn't matter even if older version... doesn't need to be latest

No Good, everytime i go to the download section for software relating to hardware i keep getting asked to
    Add Support Identifiers …
just a log in account isn't good enough
so back to my original problem, even though we own the equipment outright, they are essentially a couple of expensive paperweights
it shouldn't be that hard to obtain even an older version of this necessary piece of software?
is it possible to obtain support identifiers for sun hardware with expired maintenance? maybe that will allow me to at least download the version of the software that was available at the time of expiration?

  • Clustering and Sun Unified 7000 series

    Greetings,
Just wanted to throw a question out here..
I've been demo'ing the Sun Unified 7000 Vmware image and I have to say... Wow!!! Kudos to the Fishworks Team. Very nice.
With that said, whats the outlook on being able to Cluster Messaging Server using NFS servers by these?
Right now, You have to run a NetApp, at least the last time I checked it was that way. I'd like to see these pop up quick as the standard for that.

    Hi Dan,
Do you mean that you cannot mount the Journal virtual drives on the Storage Space? Please run the command “Get-VirtualDisk” to check the status of the virtual disk.
You could run the command below to make your storage space read-only.
    Get-VirtualDisk –Friendlyname name_of_your_space | Get-Disk | Set-Disk –IsReadOnly $true

I'm looking for the same thing -
Were you able to location any documentation?
I've been trying to get my hands on the documentation
for the C4. Sun's doc site does not have this product
listed at all. The product documentation link
    (http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/prod/1878#hic) just
returns " The requested item could not be found."
I've even tried opening up a case with Sun. First,
the support people had no idea what the C4 was. After
3 days and 3 support engineers, I finally found one
who understood what this product was, but I was then
told that getting the documentation would be on a
time and materials basis. I'd rather not have to pay
$400+ for documentation that should be on their
website, just like all their other equipment. I'm
currently using the Quantum PX502 documentation as a
reference, but I'd really like to see Sun specific
    documentation.
    Any ideas?
