    Hi,
    we are currently using SunStudio 12. I have noticed that early access product, SunStudio Express, Feb2008. It seems that new features coming from NetBeans 6.0 have contributed to SunStudio IDE. I prefer to use SunStudio Express IDE. But i have also noticed that sun CC compiler version is also different. Actually it is no surprise, since SunStudio is a complete product composed of compilers, tools and IDE.Now, i am quite doubtful whether we should use SunStudioExpress. That's why i want to learn when official new release for SunStudio will be announced.
    Though i have searched internet, i couldn't notice any news about the next official release of Sun Studio( Sun Studio 13 ). When will this early release( SunStudio Express, Feb 2008 ) be released as SunStudio13? What is the release roadmap of SunStudio?

  • Need VOC about SCCS support in Sun Studio

    Hello, Sun Studio users!
    We need Voice Of Customers (VOC) about SCCS support in Sun Studio.
    The idea is to make Sun Studio editor and project system aware of SCCS,
    and to integrate SCCS support in Sun Studio, so that users will be able to
    select a file, and perform the following SCCS actions:
    * Check Out (sccs edit)
    * Check In (sccs delget)
    * Undo Check Out (sccs unedit)
    * View History (view SCCS history in as text)
    * Show Revisions (view SCCS history in explorer)
    * Compare Revisions (view differences in filemerge)
    Please, send your replies to me or add to this thread.
    If you think it is not a good idea - this is also important information.
    Thanks in advance,
    Nik

  • Volunteer needed to help debug a Boost library in Sun Studio

    Hello,
    I've recently added a new Boost library called Boost.Flyweight to this project's
    internal repository
    [http://svn.boost.org/svn/boost/trunk/libs/flyweight/doc/index.html]
    and found out that Sun Studio (versions 5.7 thru 5.9) have runtime problems with
    a particular library test, as described in
    [http://lists.boost.org/boost-testing/2008/12/6048.php]
    My requests for help at the Boost mailing lists have met no response, so I'm
    looking here for volunteers to help debug this problem. Basically I need someone
    with access to Sun Studio and some C++ fluency (and familiarity with
    Boost is a plus, too). I'd be trying to provide as much support as possible
    during the process. In return the kind volunteer will receive my eternal gratitude
    and an entry in the lib's acknowledgements section.
    If you're interested please drop me an email to joaquin at tid.es
    Thank you very much,
    Joaquín M López Muñoz
    Telefónica, Investigación y Desarrollo

    The problem has been identified as a compiler bug, and bug number 6782987 has been filed for it.
    The bug report will be visible at bugs.sun.com in a day or two.
    Compiler versions earlier than 5.9 (Sun Studio 12) are not very good a compiling BOOST, but this particular bug exists in the latest development compiler. One of our engineers is looking for a workaround, and he will post something here if he finds one.
    A fix for this bug should show up in a future patch to Sun Studio 12. If you have a service contract with Sun, you can escalate this bug for faster service, and get a pre-release version of the compiler patch.

  • Why does Sun Studio need NetBeans?

    Hi!
    Why does Sun Studio need a NetBeans installation for running successfully? If I am not too wrong, I believe Sun Studio has the same relation to the NetBeans project as Star Office has to OpenOffice.org?
    Now, coming to the solution. I am using Sun Studio 12 on Solaris:
    amit@opensolaris:~$ sunstudio --netbeanshome /export/home/amit/netbeans-6.5beta/bin/
    Validating NetBeans IDE at: "/export/home/amit/netbeans-6.5beta/bin/"
    Sun Studio is unable to find a supported version of the NetBeans IDE at the specified location.
    Sun Studio requires a NetBeans IDE version 5.5.1 with NetBeans C/C++ Development Pack version 5.5.1
    installed. Sun Studio looks for a valid NetBeans IDE installation in the following order:
    1) Location specified with --netbeanshome command line option
    2) At /opt/netbeans-5.5.1 location, if exists
    3) At /opt/SUNWspro/../netbeans-5.5.1 location, if exists
    4) At /opt/SUNWspro/../../netbeans-5.5.1 location, if exists
    Please run the System Preparation Tool (prepare_system), if available, to set up your environment.
    As is apparent, I have a NetBeans 6.5 Beta build.
    What is the solution?
    Thanks,
    Amit

    The realtionship from SunStudio to NetBEans is more than a line from A to B.
    Ideally SunStudio releases would track NetBeans releases.
    However, NetBeans evolves at a rather fast pace. At the same time SunStudio
    also contains compilers which have their own products to coordinate with ...
    OS releases, new SPARC chips and Sun system releases.
    These releases never coincide so SunStudio tends to lag in it's dependencies
    on NetBeans and as a result ships with it's own copy.
    We used to actually build our own, sometimes tweaked, NetBeans for SunStudio.
    Weve made some progress in that we just pick released NetBeans bits and re-ship them.
    We're working on the ability for SunStudio to use NetBeanses which are already
    installed.
    To make older SunStudios use newer NetBeans is a tougher proposition but
    we're dedicating grey cells to that matter as well.
    If you really want a NB 6.5 based SunStudio wait a bit. We'll be releasing
    SunStudio SX based on NB 6.5 shortly.

  • Need help building boost_1_37_0 on Solaris 10 U6 with Sun Studio 12

    Hi,
    Ok, please bear with me here. I've tried many different sets of instructions, and haven't had success with any of them (including the ones at http://blogs.sun.com/sga/category/Boost).
    Operating System: Solaris 10 x86 U6
    Compiler: Sun Studio 12 (SUNCC version 5.9)
    Boost version: 1.37.0
    The ONLY part of boost that I need is regex. I've never built external libraries before and building boost on Solaris seems a rather daunting task. So, could someone please explain, as clearly as possible, how do I build the boost::regex library using SUNCC?
    I know this is a very broad topic, but since I haven't had any luck with any existing instructions that google turns up, alas I am here.
    Thanks in advance if someone can help me,
    ~Slow
    Note: I don't need any special options, any special, non-standard install paths, nothing. Just a straight, stock, boost install.
    Edited by: SlowToady on Nov 10, 2008 2:18 PM

    First, be sure you have the current patches for Sun Studio 12. You can get them here:
    http://developers.sun.com/sunstudio/downloads/patches/
    Please install the current C++ compiler patch, the C compiler patch, and the common back-end compiler patch.
    You should then be able to build BOOST 1.37.0. The only problem I know of has been filed as CR 6767881, which results in an incorrect complaint about a constructor not being accessible. But I don't think that one affects regex.
    If you running into some other problem after patching the compiler, please post enough detail that we can investigate it.
    Questions about how to build just a portion of BOOST are probably best addressed to a BOOST forum.

  • Help needed with evaluating Sun Studio Creator

    I am evaluating Sun Studio Creator as a platform for developing JSF applications. I really like its WYSIWYG editor, but strugging with how I would fit it in my environment. I currently use a Maven generated EJB layer running on JBoss.
    1) Ideally I would like to package my EJBs and WAR into one EAR and deploy it on JBoss. Is this possible through the IDE? I would still like to keep my Maven scripts for building the EJB layer (basically I like Maven lot more than Ant and I am not willing to give up its functionality). How would I go about doing EJB development using Maven in parallel with front-end development using JSC?
    2) Does Sun Studio Creator somehow lock me into its framework? I see that the code it generates uses custom tags such as the Web UI tags. I have not seen any good documentation justifying why I should be using these custom tag libraries and framework - giving up my freedom to experiment with other approaches. For that matter, I was not able to find a "user guide" on the tag libraries at all - only the javadocs, which are more like reference material. Can someone point me in the right direction?
    3) If I wanted to use just the standard components specified in the JSF specification, which tool bars should I limit myself to? The "Standard" toolbar? Also does it mean that I will need to manually rip out the auto-generated elements such as Web UI tags, framework specific backing beans etc. Would a "seasoned" JSC user even think of using the tool in this way?
    I would really appreciate any guidance you can give me on this topic.
    Thanks.

    Before I forget, I want to pass on the following feedback from my evaluation. Hopefully some of these items can be addressed in the upcoming release. Please note that I am not a JSC power user, so some of the impressions were made during a very limited evaluation period.
    1) It seems that JSC was designed to allow only the use of its framework/components such as the Web UI components etc. It seems pretty hard NOT to use the JSC framework/components and introduce other frameworks such as Tiles. I would prefer if JSC took a more flexible approach of also supporting other ways in which people may want to develop JSF applications.
    2) Support for a robust page templating mechanism. I really don't know how to create large complex web sites without introducing something like Tiles.
    3) Native support for Maven. I am sure people know the goodness of Maven and I should not have to list its advantages. It would be really nice if I can just point to a Maven pom.xml file and build my project, instead of messing around with Ant scripts. This would also mean supporting nested Maven projects.
    4) Full support for packaging and deploying ear files. This means the ability to support EJB projects living side-by-side with Web projects.
    5) It was not clear from the tutorials whether the databound controls work only with databases or can I bind them to in-memory objects. It would be good to allow binding to data transfer objects received from the middle-tier rather that going directly at the database.

  • Sun Studio 11 on Linux: newbie needs help playing the Temple of the Sun

    Hi!
    I've installed Sun Studio 11 on Mandriva 2007.1 Free edition. I would like to play the Temple of the Sun game but the building process fails consistently.
    I tried to follow the instructions on the following page

    Anyone know when SRSS5 (4.2?) is coming out? Funny I came across SRSS5 today, as just this morning we began research in what it would take to move to LTSP. We have entire departments running off SRSS4.1 on RHEL5. This has been a pretty good solution but Sun insists on keeping SRSS for Linux a poor product when compared to it on Solaris. Things like sound, USB thumb drives, etc are implemented TERRIBLY on their linux software (if at all).
    I'd be willing to give SRSS5 a shot if it became available soon. Even a time frame (like end of 2009, spring 2010, etc) would help.

    Tnx!!
    Small, but important changes: now working with Cisco ASA 5500 VPN (no more downgrade to 4.0 f/w version), working great with a static IP (no VPN phase 2 hang). For now new firmware connecting throw VPN to corporate SRSS 4.1 without any problem.
    Keep testing with OSol 2009.06 (2010.02 /dev). Next step - check new (and VERY VERY important) USB redirection features! Next step - testing within (officially supported) Solaris 10 5/09 - any way, its not so interesting. If it is interesting to somebody and not prohibited by EA Program rules - i'll keep blogging about all-around-new-sunray-software :)
    Again, thank you!

  • Sun Studio (12,1) is unable to find a supported version of the Netbeans IDE

    Hi all,
    We're working on upgrading both the hardware and software on our application currently, and part of this involves upgrading our compiler to Sun Studio 12.1. I downloaded
    SunStudio12u1-SunOS-SPARC-pkgs-ML.tar.bz2
    from the Sun website and we installed it into the following location on our server:
    /opt/compiler/sunstudio12.1
    I successfully compiled all my code using the compiler, however, when I try to launch the debugger by typing ./sunstudio in the 'bin' directory, I get the following error:
    {opt/compiler/sunstudio12.1/bin}./sunstudio
    Sun Studio is unable to find a supported version of the NetBeans IDE.
    Sun Studio requires a NetBeans IDE version 6.5.1 with NetBeans C/C++ module (cnd

    Sun Studio looks for a valid NetBeans IDE installation in the following order:
    1) Location specified with --netbeanshome command line option
    2) At /opt/compiler/sunstudio12.1/netbeans
    I have seen references to executing 'prepare_system' on forums while I was trying to investigate this, but when our sys admin folks try to execute the command, it does not work (command not found). They've mentioned that they expected a prepare_system script in the directory where we untarred the downloaded sun studio tarfile, but it is not there:

Ideally, I'd prefer not to uninstall / reinstall if at all possible as we're about to start system testing our executables, and I think a reinstall would require more unit teting and delays to our project (yikes!). But any input would be appreciated here.
    Thanks,
    Brendan.

    Hi David,
    First off - thanks for the response. I do have some follow up questions if you don't mind though:
    1. When you say the install is corrupted, do you suspect
    - the file I downloaded from the website either was corrupted, or was not the correct file for my platform
    - the procedure used to install the software was incorrect
    - something else
    2. Is there a logfile that the sun studio install creates which would indicate an error during the installation procedure? I'm sure our admins who performed the install would have shouted if an error was logged... but on the offchance that the installation does not 'shout loudly' for some errors, I'd like to see a log of the error. At a minimum, I'd expect it to say why the install failed, and what we need to modify to ensure a successful install next time 'round.
    3. I successfully compiled my code using the C compiler from the install. My unit tests also look good... does this suggest that the install was at least a partial success, and would you suspect that my recompiled executables are reliable, despite the fact that I cannot launch the IDE?
    4. Today, one of our admins telnetted to our unix server - not via exceed by the way, but he did try the following test:
    - set his display env variable (he knew he would not get a display however)
    - executed the sunstudio script
    He did not get the netbeans error, and the process appeared to be running (as I mentioned, without a display) until he killed it. I've asked if they can repeat the test using an exceed session. I thought there may be something on his $PATH that I did not have - unfortunately this was not the case (although, he may have access as 'root' to something that I require to launch the IDE). My question is, would you expect this behaviour if the install was corrupted?
    Let me know what you think.
    Thanks,
    Brendan.

  • Creator Early Access SDK Level

    Hi
    I downloaded Sun Java Studio Creator 2 Early Access 2. Now I tried to set the source level to 1.5 to support tiger but it always go back to 1.4. Below is how I set the source level to JDK 1.5:
    I select the project and right click to select properties. I select Source from categories (left pane) and select 1.5 from the Source Level drop down in the bottom section of the right pane.
    However, it does not seems to accept that selection and the tool keeps defaulting to Source Level 1.4. And I still get error highlight for 1.5 code syntax support in my Java class.
    Any help to resolve this will be appreciated. Or is it that Sun Java Studio Creator 2 Early Access 2 does not support Source Level 1.5?
    Bisi

    You might want to post that to the Creator 2 EA forum instead of here.

  • Oracle ADF Faces Components, Early Access Release 8 is now available

    Oracle ADF Faces is a rich set of user interface components based on the new JavaServer Faces JSR (JSR-127). Oracle has been actively involved in this JSR since its beginning. The Oracle ADF Faces Components provide various user-interface components with built-in functionality - such as data tables, hierarchical tables, and color and date pickers - that can be customized and re-used in your application.
    ADF Faces also includes many of the framework features most needed by JSF developers today:
    * File upload support is integrated at a component level.
    * Client-side validation is automatically derived from Validators and Converters for an improved user experience.
    * A pageFlow scope makes it easier to pass values from one page to another.
    * A new hybrid state saving strategy gives developers the best of both client and server-side state saving.
    ADF Faces ensures a consistent look and feel for your application, allowing you to focus more on user interface interaction rather than look and feel compliance. The components support multi-language and translation implementation as well as accessibility features. ADF Faces Components use Partial Page Rendering (PPR) offering superior runtime interactivity. PPR allow the browser to just render a piece of a page instead of the entire page.
    The intention with this early access release is to give developers/architects an opportunity to evaluate JSF and Oracle's JSF component offering.
    Oracle ADF Faces Components can be used in any IDE that support JSF, including Oracle JDeveloper 10g.
    Oracle ADF Faces Components, EA8

    Jonas,
    It works if I include the following:
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" prefix="h"%>
    The source is now:
    <%@ taglib uri="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/faces/EA8" prefix="af"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" prefix="h"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" prefix="f"%>
    <%@ page contentType="text/html;charset=windows-1252"%>
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252">
    <title>untitled</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <f:view>
    <af:outputText value="hello ADF Faces!"/>
    </f:view>
    </body>
    </html>
    Did I feel out something in my library entry?
    Thanks.

  • Sun studio patches on linux: how to deal with?

    hello all,
    on solaris 10, i'm using a tool like pca (1) to maintain sun studio up to date.
    But on linux, i don't know how to do the same process?
    I've a Centos on a Sun x2270, i've installed SS21u1 with rpms, and sometimes, i go to the patches website, and do the painful job of installing the latest patches.
    Is there another way? or a better process to get the latest rpms available?
    For instance, on solaris 10, pca loads afile name patchdiag.xref, in which i can find patches related to Sun Studio on Linux:
    grep -i 'Studio 12' /var/tmp/patchdiag.xref | grep -i Linux | awk -F\| '{print $1}'
    124874
    124877
    126497
    126997
    127145
    127149
    127154
    127158
    141856
    141859
    142367after that, i have to use pca with -r (README) flags, to find the name of the rpms:
    Files included with this patch:
    Note:
        sun-cpl-12.1-5.i386.rpm
        sun-cplx-12.1-5.x86_64.rpm
        sun-scl-12.1-5.i386.rpm
        sun-sclx-12.1-5.x86_64.rpm
        sun-stl4o-12.1-5.i386.rpm
        sun-stl4x-12.1-5.x86_64.rpm
        sun-tll7-12.1-5.i386.rpm
        sun-tll7x-12.1-5.x86_64.rpmthen, on linux, i have to query if the rpm is installed:
    bash-3.2# rpm -qa|grep sun-cpl
    sun-cpl-12.1-4
    sun-cplx-12.1-4and install it if needed:
    sudo rpm -Fvh /tmp/128230-04/*.rpmthanks in advance for help,
    gerard
    (1) [http://www.par.univie.ac.at/solaris/pca/] and a review by a sun guy: [http://blogs.sun.com/quenelle/entry/patch_check_advanced]

    Thanks Julien for this information.
    For a SCD Type 1 dimension I used IKM Oracle Incremental Update module and when I execute the interface I get ORA-01031: insufficient privileges error message because I have only read access on the source system. Based on your suggestion, ODI shouldn't access/need source system for staging purposes.
    What did I do wrong then?
    According with ODI documentation, IKM Oracle Incremental Update module: Integrates data in an Oracle target table in incremental update mode. This IKM creates a temporary staging table to stage the data flow. It then compares its content to the target table to guess which records should be inserted and which others should be updated. It also allows performing data integrity check by invoking the CKM. Inserts and updates are done in bulk set-based processing to maximize performance. Therefore, this IKM is optimized for large volumes of data. Consider using this IKM if you plan to load your Oracle target table to insert missing records and to update existing ones. If you plan to use this IKM with very large tables, you should consider enhancing this IKM by removing the MINUS set-based operator. To use this IKM, the staging area must be on the same data server as the target.
