  • Sun Type 7 keyboard hangs on Ultra 24

    Hello,
recently I hooked up a new Sun Ultra 24 system running Solaris 10/08.
An original Sun Type 7 keyboard including Sun mouse is connected to the computer.
Every once a while the keyboard gets disconnected so I have to replug the USB. As far as I am concerned no log entry is produced.
Has somebody an idea how to exclude a hardware issue? If the keyboard is connected to an iMac I noticed no problems.
    Many thanks in advance!

i am also having that same problem, the keyboard ends in -03. i've gone back and forth with sun, no resolution. i'm getting sun to bring a FE onsite so they can have fun with it. i have used update 5, 6 and 7. still nothing, i can use an install disk and go to command line but that's it. sun has yet to inform me that's a problem with this keyboard type on ultra 24.
    i'll send any updates

  • Solaris 10 x86 b63 USB keyboard issue

Hello. I am trying to install Solaris 10 x86 on a Dell Optiplex SX280. The system uses a USB keyboard and mouse. When asked as to the type of installation to perform (1 - Interactive, 2 - JumpStart, 3 - Text Only), I select 1, then the system start booting and the following messages are displayed:
    Configuring devices.
Using RPC Bootparams for network configuration information
    ioctl (kbd type): Invalid argument
and hangs at this point. The keyboard stops responding so that a power cycle is the only option. Obviously the keyboard is recognized for me to select option 1 above but something happens after that. Any ideas? Thanks.

At the "1 - Interactive, 2 - JumpStart, 3 - Text Only" prompt the BIOS handles the keyboard. This is before the
    Solaris kernel is loaded.
After the Solaris kernel is booted, either the Solaris PS/2 keyboard driver or the USB keyboard driver has
to handle the system's keyboard. For your system it's apparently the USB keyboard driver.
I'm not sure what's wrong with this system. You could try to boot into single user mode with verbose
kernel messages enabled. At the "1 - Interactive, 2 - JumpStart, 3 - Text Only" prompt, type
b -vsAre there any (error) messages from Solaris' usb kernel modules? Look for messages from the modules
"ohci", "uhci" or "ehci". ehci is for USB 2.0, while ohci & uhci are for USB 1.1 devices. I guess your
USB keyboard is an USB 1.x device, so you need either a working "ohci" or "uhci" driver for the USB
port where your keyboard is attached.

  • How to configure a Sun Type 7 Keyboard (Solaris 10 11/06)

    Hi.
I bought a Sun Type 7 (UNIX) keyboard. I plugged it in and configured Xorg's kbd driver to use this kind of keyboard. The problem is that some keys, such as the 3 volume keys, the sleep key, the composite key, doesn't appear to work. In the official documentation there's no other installation hint but "to plug it in".
Has anyone any experience configuring this keyboard?
    Thanks again,
    Enrico.

    hello.
    Just do this:
    eeprom kbd-type=Frenchafter reboot.Hello,
"eeprom" is fine on a SPARC box, but how do I do this on a x86 box ?
    TIA.

  • Non Apple USB Keyboard Issue

    Hi All,
I recently purchased an L3 Systems WristPC keyboard to use with my mac mini.
The problem I'm having is that the NumLock key won't toggle and, as the keyboard shares the number keys with the qwerty row, I cannot type any numbers.
I've confirmed the keyboard works by plugging it into a pc where it functions as expected.
I've been all up and down the net and every forum I could find, but have had no luck with a solution.
    Anyone?
    Thanks in advance..

    Hi Sound Speed-
Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards
Is this a USB keyboard or an adapted PC model?
If it isn't USB per se it most likely won't play nice with any Mac. Does it worked on a PC with the USB adapter?
    Luck-

  • USB keyboard issues

I'm running Mac OS X Lion v10.7.2 and have bought an extended USB keyboard, although I can't get all the keys to work properly (none of the function keys, end, etc)
I'm running the lastest software so what's the issue?
    Thanks

first of all....thx for the help Xmad
ok...just to clarify...I am not using a usb headset...they are analog with a usb power connector actual model is Turtlebeach x12's..
I think I have found the culprit. I unplugged all my usb devices from the back of the pc (nothing is hooked up to the front usb)....The sound stopped when I unplugged my NVidia 3d emitter.....I plugged it back in and the sound started again...looks like it is doing something to my head phones....the sound was still coming out of my headhones even though I had pulled out the analog connectors from my sound card. so the sound is coming from the usb connector somehow...any ideas what is causing this of if I can stop it
    thanks.

  • Bootcamp and iMac Thin USB keyboard issue....

I work at a university where we have several labs that are setup with iMac's that have been made dual boot for obvious reasons. Everything has worked without a hitch, until the upgrade from Leopard/Vista to Snow Leopard/Win7. Since upgrading, most of the computers still work, however we are having issues right now where the Mac keyboard will not respond until the computer is up and running. We can no longer do ANY key commands prior to loading into the bootcamp OS Picker. Beyond that, whenever we try to run Win7 on a handful of machines, the computer goes to a black screen asking which OS we would like to run with only showing the valid Win7 option. Normally choosing this option would cause Windows to load, however, the Mac keyboard still remains unresponsive. If we plug in ANY other branded keyboard, this screen doesn't appear, and Win7 loads just fine.
Upon getting into Windows/Snow Leopard, the keyboard works just fine.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this? Is it a setting that we have missed somewhere along the lines? Has someone or something possibly altered the way EFI responds to the keyboard?? What could be happening? It is very puzzling that ANY other branded keyboard has no problem, but any of the Mac Thin USB keyboards we try all have the same results....

After some more testing, it appears to be an issue with the bigger aluminum USB keyboards with the number-pad on them. We have replaced the keyboard with one of the small aluminum ones (sans number-pad), and we now have all the EFI key commands working again. We have also tried a Dell and a Gateway keyboard, and these all work as well, we can even get these to trigger a Net-boot.
Apparently there is something that is drastically different with the "Large Aluminum Keyboard with Numeric Keypad" that is causing it to not work as intended. Everything was fine UNTIL we boot-camp was installed and now this specific "style" of keyboard is not working. We have tried 3 different keyboards of this style, and they all yield the same results of nothing.
Now poses the question what do we do, as EVERY Mac that we own has the "Large Aluminum Keyboard with Numeric Keypad". At this point, it seems like my only other option is to contact Apple Care and see what could be causing the problem....

  • USB keyboard issue

    Hi,
I'm pretty new to *nix and I'm trying to install Arch for the first time but I'm struggling to get past the first hurdle, any help would be really appreciated.
I've written the iso to a USB drive as per the wiki but I cant boot because my keyboard isn't working in the very first menu.
The same keyboard and image on a different machine works fine so I guess this is something to do with the motherboard, 'Asus P877-I Deluxe', yep it's UEFI but it's booting in legacy mode.
I guess it's irrelevant but the keyboard works fine in an ubuntu live image.
These are the options in the BIOS under USB config:
    Legacy USB support          Enabled
    Legacy USB3.0 Support     Enabled
    Intel xHCI Mode                 Smart Auto
    EHCI Hand-off                    Disabled
    Thanks

Haha no worries pal I know that feeling. I guess I can just workaround this problem by using chroot from an ubuntu live CD, is this likely to make installation more complicated? Like I say I'm not very experienced with *nix. I'll give it a go see what happens.
    Thanks

  • SUN ULTRA 5 type 5 keyboard and mouse

    Hi.
I have some questions about old SUN TYPE 5 keyboard and mouse.
I have got an very old ULTRA 5 machine just for little "playing" with just such type of keyboard and mouse ( SUN type 5).
I am wondering , if this input devices will fail, is it possible to get some other compatible type of keyboard and mouse for it ???
I am not SUN specialist , so I dont know - is it also possible to use also SUN type 6 keyboard / mouse with my ULTRA 5 workstation??? The connector type seems similar like a PS/2 , but I think there is no way to use standard PC PS/2 keyboard/mouse with it , or is it ??? Whats the best solution , where to get ULTRA 5 compatible keyboard/mouse ? Thank you veyr much for your answer.

    Hello,
a Type 5 keyboard (lacks the power-on key) and mouse might work. The preferred types are Type 5c or Type 6.
Most OHCI compatible USB cards work (http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/products/hardware.html), but the USB keyboard and mouse aren't usable until the operating system (and USB driver) have been loaded (you have to configure keyboard and mouse manually).
I would recommend that you get a Sun Type 5c or Type 6 keyboard/mouse from second hand e.g. eBay. They are not that expensive anymore.
Another choice is to use the Ultra 5 via the serial console (text mode) and then use a X-Server to access the system (after installation of Solaris) via the network.

  • Sun Type 6 USB keyboard Driver

    Hello,
We're using Exceed to allow PC users to connect to our Sun Blade 150's. Our design engineers want to use the sun keyboards they are used to (Sun Type 6 USB keyboards) including all the sun keys on the left of the keyboard. I'm trying to get a keyboard map built in Exceed to allow this to work but haven't been able to yet. I'm not sure that the PC is seeing any interupts or signals that are generated when the sun keys on the left are punched.
So to summarize, we have Sun Type 6 USB keyboards plugged into PC's. The PC's connect to Blade 150's using Exceed X Windows. The keyboards work fine except the sun keys on the left. I'm trying to get those keys to work.
Anyone tried this? Do I need a windows driver for the Sun keyboard? Anyone know of one?
    -James

G5 dual 2ghz.  Been unplugged for a while. Powers up but no video or power to usb keyboard.  Boots up fine in safe mode, restart into normal mode ok. After shutdown, back to same issue.  What's happening?

I keep seeing people ask and the advice to replace if it has been unplugged, but really have nothing to confirm that from my experiences.
My experience is that a weak or dead battery can cause much more than date and time issues.
I have seen it time and time again.
Deal with used machines and you will quickly learn....
I'll give no "recipe" or set list of symptoms, but the range of irregularities that can occur make it a quick and easy first line of troubleshooting, especially when the machine has been off the mains for a few months.
Why fight mysterious maladies and troubleshoot with the knowledge that the PRAM battery is beyond it's useful life.
    Maybe they recharge?
Not likely. They are chemically nasty, disposable, one way discharge batteries.
    They aren't Lithium-ion batteries

  • ThinkPad USB Keyboard with TrackPoint issues with scroll (55Y9003)

    Hi Guys,
I am having issues with this  keyboard...
I ordered it to use it  on my work where I have Dell Vostro desktops.
However scroll simply doesn't work in all programs and even stops working ... I also using VM and it doesn't work at all in VMWARE even if you point inside it it still operates at host system !? Weird...
I have installed latest drivers 1.01 but nothing... So when I removed all drivers and just keep default scroll work as default but still not in all programs and not in VM Ware, etc... Just to be clear my regular mouse scroll works in all and works properly...
Is it possible that this keyboard will work only on Thinkpads used as external keyboard ?
There are two things to be installed when I start a disk one is driver and second one is some interface driver which can be only installed on Thinkpads ?! Couldn't be that that thing is missing when running on non Thinkpad systems?
Any help how to make scroll work in all programs?
    Thanks.
Moderator edit: Removed UltraNav from the title. This keyboard just has a TrackPoint.

I have the ThinkPad USB keyboard on a non-Lenovo desktop, and it works.
Yes the keyboard driver installs, but not the Lenovo System Interface Driver, for obvious reasons. All the buttons and TrackPoint work.
Yes the TrackPoint does not scroll in all programs. Search the community for "trackpoint scroll fix" and you will come up with instructions on how to fix this.

  • External ThinkPad USB Keyboard with TrackPoint issues with scroll (55Y9003) and hotkeys on a x201

    Hello
Once more there is a glitch with the drivers for this external keyboard 55Y9003.
    I have the drivers:
16.2.19.13 for the ultranav system of the x201
    1.10 for the external keyboard
    My system is XP sp3.
The keyboard of the x201is fine relative to the one  55Y9003.
The scrolling is set to standard for both systems.
Please do not advise to select smooth; it is not a solution and the smooth scrolling has been systematically utterly unusable.
    The issues:
-the hotkeys on the external keyboards are not all working:
basically, fn+f4 and fn+nmlk work but the rest does not (say fn+f8)
-the scrolling of the external keyboard is not at all identical to the scrolling of the x201.
For instance, in pdfs viewed with foxit for instance, I have not a problem to scroll horizontally with the x201 starting with the hand tool.
WIth the external keyboard, whan I press the middle button to activate the scrolling, it remains the hand tool, I can scroll vertically but not horizontally.
FIrefox as also issues whith the middle button.
-the external keyboard still suffers from the sticky shift key.
I know the x201 and the 55Y9003 are no longer fashionable, but  Is there some directly  guy working at Lenovo who could help ?

My external Apple USB Keyboard letters doesn't work, but the numbers do. Why and how can I fix this issue? Also, When I open the Keyboard Viewer, the letters will highlight only if I hold the modifier key(s) "Control" or "Control and Option". I really need help with this. I don't have any other computer to try it on, so I will have to test it on a friends computer sometime. But perhaps solutions that I can try right now? Thanks.
