Sun Type 7 keyboard hangs on Ultra 24

Hello,
recently I hooked up a new Sun Ultra 24 system running Solaris 10/08.
An original Sun Type 7 keyboard including Sun mouse is connected to the computer.
Every once a while the keyboard gets disconnected so I have to replug the USB. As far as I am concerned no log entry is produced.
Has somebody an idea how to exclude a hardware issue? If the keyboard is connected to an iMac I noticed no problems.
Many thanks in advance!

i am also having that same problem, the keyboard ends in -03. i've gone back and forth with sun, no resolution. i'm getting sun to bring a FE onsite so they can have fun with it. i have used update 5, 6 and 7. still nothing, i can use an install disk and go to command line but that's it. sun has yet to inform me that's a problem with this keyboard type on ultra 24.
i'll send any updates

  • How to configure a Sun Type 7 Keyboard (Solaris 10 11/06)

    Hi.
I bought a Sun Type 7 (UNIX) keyboard. I plugged it in and configured Xorg's kbd driver to use this kind of keyboard. The problem is that some keys, such as the 3 volume keys, the sleep key, the composite key, doesn't appear to work. In the official documentation there's no other installation hint but "to plug it in".
Has anyone any experience configuring this keyboard?
    Thanks again,
    Enrico.

    hello.
    Just do this:
    eeprom kbd-type=Frenchafter reboot.Hello,
"eeprom" is fine on a SPARC box, but how do I do this on a x86 box ?
    TIA.

  • Sun Type 6 USB keyboard Driver

    Hello,
We're using Exceed to allow PC users to connect to our Sun Blade 150's. Our design engineers want to use the sun keyboards they are used to (Sun Type 6 USB keyboards) including all the sun keys on the left of the keyboard. I'm trying to get a keyboard map built in Exceed to allow this to work but haven't been able to yet. I'm not sure that the PC is seeing any interupts or signals that are generated when the sun keys on the left are punched.
So to summarize, we have Sun Type 6 USB keyboards plugged into PC's. The PC's connect to Blade 150's using Exceed X Windows. The keyboards work fine except the sun keys on the left. I'm trying to get those keys to work.
Anyone tried this? Do I need a windows driver for the Sun keyboard? Anyone know of one?

  • KeyBoard Hangs Randomly with VDI 3.1

    Hi All,
I have a customer running VDI 3.1. with Vbox as Desktop Provider
The keyboard hangs randomly at certain VM at certain times.
How can I fix this issue, please
    Thanks in advance,

I am also having this problem. I am getting random keyboard lockups at the VDI login screen. This only occurs at the login screen.
When this happens, my only option is usually a Stop+A. on some rare occasions a Ctrl+Alt+BkSpace-BkSpace may work.
Also if using a smartcard, puling it out and inserting it in again will do the trick.
We are using Type 7 Arabic keyboards.
I found a similar problem "http://blogs.sun.com/sjf/entry/keyboard_layout_problems_with_sun" related to kbd and java, but that was for another kiosk session type and I did not know if it is the same problem.
Also read that it may be a bug with the type 7 KB sending too many signals while idle, but this I can't seem to dig up the page I read it on.
We have also upgraded to VDI 3.1.1 and we still have the same problem.

  • Keyboard hangs on MacBook Pro with Windows 7

I have a 2008 MacBook Pro and Windows 7 RC installed with Boot Camp drivers.
More and more, the keyboard hangs. Sometimes it does not register a keystroke (for about 1 second), and shortly thereafter it hangs on 1 keystroke (pressing a random key once results in about 30 of that characters on screen).
I know Windows 7 is still not officialy released, but I do hope this gets fixed in the near future. I have had many Windows 7 installs, including previous versions. They all had the same issue.
The problem seems to be the Keyboard manager. Windows 7 also reported that this service was using more than usual resources, causing it to be bad for battery life.

Same problem here. I already installed Windows 7 and then Windows XP to see if this was a Win7 issue but on both OS the issue is occurring.
Delay with the Keyboard when press a key. Sometimes it writes 30 or more of the same character.
I can't do the double fingers/right click most of the times since the drives seems to hang and multitouch trackpad stops to recognize the two fingers right click. It eventually come back working OK from time to time and then stops working again.
Bootcamp 3.0 did not resolve the issue for me under Win XP and Win 7

  • Portable small input-only Perkins-type keyboard recommendations?

Iʻm looking for affordable options for Perkins-type keyboards.
A TACTILE keyboard, and USB (instead of Bluetooth) is preferred.
Itʻs good if the keyboard can be programmed and learn about my Braille needs so it can work with different Braille-language inputs, maths/Nemeth learning, musical notation etc.
What options would work for Braille-input currently?
Regular Perkins-type input devices can be really expensive, so Iʻm open for all other alternatives.
    Would Xkeys XK-24 work?
I would love if I could learn to program it so that I could e.g. get the text to flash on the screen in closed captioning style in giant Braille as I type (or switch between that and VoiceOver or other methods of feedback of what I type).
I use VoiceOver to some extent on all my Macs and iOS devices. BrailleTouch works pretty well on iPhone for me, but I need to expand the Braille input options.
So MBraille on iOS is probably next for iPad, but... well, those are all software. I need tactile keys so I can learn to type in Braille to my muscle memory.

Updates... since this might help other users too.
Iʻve got Braille Writer Student software installed on my Mac now. It works for basic learning to map the keys to the letters.
    And it does exactly [s d f = 3 2 1] on left and [j k l = 4 5 6] for right hand.
Iʻll need to practice with that typing method, BUT itʻs very hard on hands. Try typing even 10 minutes in a row when all the keys you hit are s d f j k l and pressing 1-6 of them on the same time, and without really moving your fingers on the keyboard.
What would be more comfortable for me would be just a small little USB thing where the keys are always the same.
On iPad mini I use Visual Brailler; it has the classic Perkins key layout - which I basically want to use. But itʻll be easier when i can have specific keys on the keyboard so i can get a consistent input. With software, either itʻs "looking at the keys" or typing "in blind". Well... both are something I canʻt do, so on the software solutions for that problem, itʻs VoiceOver time.
And a basic Perkins will be the ideal.
XK-24 can be programmed on both OS X side, and if Iʻll use it (which Iʻll have to at some point) with a Windows virtual machine, because itʻs USB, the device can be passed in full to the guest operating system. And finding some way to make it work systemwide or in a specific program in a Windows virtual machine will not be a problem.

    Hi,
You can check the releated info for V120 Firmware upgrade.
    Document ID: 111991-07
Maybe you should check the diag-switch was true or false.
When dijag-switch was set to true.
The boot command is used diag-device as default boot device and diag-file as the default boot arguments.
    Tks!

They do not exist to help people solve problems with applications written in java. For help with such problems you go to the people that created the application.
If yours is the first case rather than the latter then you need to post information about your code.
Other than that you can look at the response at the end of the following link.

  • Magic Trackpad and Logitech keyboard hangs with Mavericks

Since updating to Mavericks, both my Logitech keyboard (DiNovo) and Magic Trackpad hang when chaning from one window to the next. I've reinstalled the latest drivers from Logitech, but that did not have any affect on the problem. Am I alone?

I had the same problem.  I had the DiNovo and the Magic Mouse connected to my iMac.  After the upgrade to Maverics, both devices would hang frequently (both when I selected to a new window and otherwise).
I got fed up and installed a USB keyboard, decommissioning the DiNovo.  I would have put away the Magic Mouse too, but I couldn't find my USB mouse.
Funny thing is, after I removed the DiNovo, the Magic Mouse seems to be working fine.

  • English speaking, literate, touch type, keyboard, desktop (not a tablet), not a touch screen...

I speak English. I read left to right, top to bottom. I touch type on a keyboard. I do not have nor do I want a touch screen. I use the mouse only when I find it to be an advantage. My primary input method is keyboard. I feel many programers when programming an interface have over looked this in a rush to accommodate tablet users.
I'm new to Windows 7 and generally loving in it. One problem crops up from time to time. In FireFox 34.0.5 in particular when I restore the, File, Edit, View, History, etc. menu bare I loose the FireFox icon. When switching Windows that Icon helps me identify what program is running in that window. That saves me time. How do I restore it without changing theme I'm using which is the default.
I feel programers have forgotten that there is a reason behind many of the layout convention of Window (and also MAC(s)) and it has to do with the way we read and write and the use of a keyboard.
It's such a small thing I want in here and it's a very important mindset I wish programers had: English, Literate, keyboard.
    Thank you
    Dave

    Hi,
Try entering text or an email address after tapping the reply or new message button, as shown on page 66 of the iPod touch User Guide. http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPod_touch_3.1_UserGuide.pdf
If the issue persists, try forcing the Mail app to close and relaunching it. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1445 will walk you through the process.
Also, you can always restore the iPod touch to rule out issues with the software on the iPod. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414 will walk you through restoring the iPod touch.

  • IPod,  iTunes Syncing on Leopard + Apple Wired Keyboard = Hang and problems

Sorry for the cryptic topic title but I search liked crazy and through several different sites I managed to hobble together a configuration that reproduces my problem. Maybe those terms will helps others...
Anyway, I have Mac Pro with OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and a 5G video iPod. Just recently during iTunes syncing it began to randomly hang quite early on in the process. No itunes is still responsive but it just stays on the same song forever, never making any progress. I did restore, auto vs. manual, disk space enable/disable every combination of iTunes and iPod settings I could try.
The crazy part is that I HAVE fixed the problem but I wanted Apple and others to know what to do and that is needs to be fixed correctly
Recently (same time iTunes started failing) I got the new Apple wired keyboard (love it!) but it IS the problem (or rather the combination of stuff). If I just unplug that keyboard during the iTunes sync it works every time, plug it back in and it hangs again next time iTunes syncs.
So maybe someone else is having this problem, I hope you find this forum and I hope Apple already knows about this glitch.
    Thanks!

I'm only going to tackle one of your issues; that of "recently added" playlists being whacked out when added to iPhones/iPods.
Here's the issue: You set up a smart playlist with a "recently added" criterion. The playlist looks fine in iTunes, and it displays all the recent music you've added to your library properly.
You then sync to your iPhone, and low and behold, all the tracks in that playlist do not match anything that had shown in iTunes. Believe it or not, this is a really old iTune bug. If memory serves me, it goes back to iTunes 6 or maybe earlier.
There are two known work arounds:
    1) you turn off "live updating." This is very poor work around, because most people use a recently added playlist to automagically add their newest music to their device. Turning live updating off defeats the point.
2)create a second smart playlist that points to the first one. What I mean is, if you have a playlist called "Newest 250 tracks" and that is the smart playlist that shows up incorrectly on your iphone, then set up a second smart playlist called "Newest 250 tracks iPhone" and the only criterion in it, is that is populates from playlist "Newest 250 tracks." It will then look identical to your first playlist, but because it doesn't contain a "recently added" criterion in itself, it will avoid the bug. So sync to that second tiered playlist, and all is well.
Yes it's stupid to have to make a second "meta" playlist for every recently added playlist, but c'est la vie.

  • Sun Studio code hangs at fork, GCC code runs fine

I am encountering a strange problem where code complied with GCC runs fine, but the same code compiled with Sun Studio 12 compiler hangs at a fork call after an initial set of fork calls.
I'd appreciate your help in solving this.
The code was originally written for GCC, I started using the Sun Studio with a view to using Sun's thread analyzer. I made a couple of changes which I think are inoccuous:
    (a) added #ifdef __SUNPRO_CC char * __FUNCTION__ = "name"; #endif
    (b) one more #ifdef around one call to ctime_r because the g++ include expects 2 parameters while Sun Studio 12 expects 3 parameters.
    The g++ is compiled on a Solaris 9 (1 x sparcv9) using GCC 3.3.3
    while the Sun Studio 12 is on a Solaris 10 ( 4 x sparcv9).
Both runs were on the same Solaris 10 machine which has the compiler.
The program is a multi instance socket listener, the main program binds to a socket, then forks off a set of processes which accept connections, those children later fork off other client applications based on the connection data; after those clients exit, the children continue accepting etc. The main program only monitors the child processes, records their status and starts if any of those die.
This is working as expected when compiled with g++.
The exact same code (note the two sets of #ifdefs above) when compiled with Sun PRO CC alway hangs at the second set of fork. That is, it goes through the first set of forks fine, then when a connection is established, it reads the data but hangs right at the fork call.
The application code at this point is:
    char * p = pathfind( getenv("PATH"), progname );
    if ( !p ) {  printError(); return false; }
    pid = fork();
The truss for the Sun Studio code shows
    23914: access("/usr/bin/progname", X_OK) = Err#2 ENOENT
    23914: access("/usr/you/bin/progname", X_OK) = 0
    23914: lwp_park(0x0000000, 0) (sleeping)
while the truss for the g++ code shows
    23986: access("/usr/bin/progname", X_OK) = Err#2 ENOENT
    23986: access("/usr/you/bin/progname", X_OK) = 0
    23996: fork1() = 24005
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks and best regards

If I understand correctly, you are compiling with gcc on Solaris 9, and with Sun Studio on Solaris 10. Since the OS is different, you might be running into OS issues and not compiler issues. What happens if you build with the same gcc version on the Solaris 10 system where you see the problem?
    By "OS issues", I mean
    1. The program uses unstable or undocumented OS interfaces, or
    2. A bug that is new in Solaris 10.
A bug was identified in Solaris 10 that could cause forks to hang. It showed up in the libpkcs11 library as used by the JVM. I don't know whether it showed up elsewhere.
This bug was fixed in Solaris 10u2. If you are using an earlier version of Solaris 10, you could try upgrading.

  • Chat type keyboard shortcut

When you select a person to chat with from the menu bar dropdown, and that person has multiple chat options (text/voice/video), is there a keyboard shortcut to select the chat type?
I've tried all types of keyboard combos and can't seem to find one.

    Hello again, van6ogh
But how do you get past that window without having to click on a chat type with your mouse.
Use the tab key to toggle to the chat type you desire. Then press the space bar to execute the selected type. At least it works that way on my iChat AV 3.
I notice that you have changed your posted System Info between your initial and msg # 2.1.1 posts. Assuming the latest info is correct, if it does not work that way for iChat AV 2.1 on your Panther 10.3.8 Mac, consider updating to Mac X 10.3.9. As explained in How I Update My Mac OS X, I recommend using the Combo Updater.
