Go to Docs.Sun.Com and get the system's documentation. Also go get the OBP 3.x Command Reference manual while you are there. All you questions are answered in that documentation, except for those that are easily found with Google.

  • Suspect defective cdrom on Ultra Enterprise 450 server

    Hello,
Would you assume that the CDROM is brocken if
    ok> boot cdrom just hangs
I would assume that the alias is set automatically.
The CDROM does just nothing then but lights up when the machine starts.
I tested it on a pc and it behaved just the same.

I had the same issue on one of our E450's and the test requested by Sun support was "ok>boot cdrom"
when this failed to work they replaced the drive and all was well.

  • Ultra Enterprise 450 Server

I couldnt see my messagge on the web, so this is my second time:
After installing a new UPS my server doesnt comming up.
No indications on the front panel. No fans running. Nothing at all.
Just possible to see in both Power Supplies (rear side)and green color leds:
    - Load Status
    - AC-Present Status
    DC Status is off
Im wondering if both power supplies are bad.
    Any more ideas??

Just a shot in the dark (yes, pun intended).
I hope the UPS is NOT conected to TTYa, because that is your console port of the system. Console is probably waiting for proper input connectivity.
You may need to open a service case with the vendor of that Uninterruptible Power Supply and seek help to confirm proper connections.

  • Sun SPARC Enterprise M4000 Server as Oracle db server?

    Hi,
we're considering to replace our Sun Fire V490 Servers with newer generation of Oracle SUN Servers.
It's mentioned that next-generation product for V490 Servers is Sun SPARC M4000.
Do you have any experience with M4000 as Oracle db servers?
Our systems are mostly OLTP based with batch processing overnight.
Database with about 150 concurrent users max.
What would be our best price/performance option?
    Thanks!

    Hi ajmaidak,
    our SunFire v490 configurations are:
    2x SunFire v490 , 4GB RAM , 2 (1x dual-port HBA) x 2Gb FC
    2x SunFire v490 , 8GB RAM , 2 (1x dual-port HBA) x 2Gb FC
What do you think about consolidation of those four v490 servers on two Intel 7500 based X4470 servers?
Intel 7500 X4470 is strong enough to handle workload of two SunFire v490 servers?
Same question related to Sparc VII+ M4000 server - can this server handle workload of two SunFire v490's?
    Thanks for answer.

  • Adding new Scsi hard disk to Enterprise 450

I have an Ultra Enterprise 450 2x300Mhz. I want to install another 8Gig or 18Gig Scsi hard disk to the current configuration, but I dont want to re-install solaris, without giving any damage to the system.
How can i do this without losing any data in the current config.
    Regards.

Solstice disk suite is a good tool for the job of managing your disks. Lets say that you want to increase the database volume, you could create a stripe accross the current disk and a fourth disk. So if you installed another 9GB drive you could create a volume as follows:
1/ Get a time window, take the database offline and unmount the database slice ( shutdown -y -g<i>n**</i> -iS ).
The shutdown command is a good way to set your system up for a backup, n** is the number of seconds before the system goes down to level S. With a properly configured SVR4 UNIX initializing to level 1 should unmount all but / and should stop all services.
2/ Dump the database filesystem to tape.
3/ Recreate a new partition table for the disk:
    Slice 6 unassigned 30MB
    Slice 7 /usr 8GB ( remainder of the disk
4/ Create an identical VTOC on the new disk
    5/ Create meta data database:
    # metadb -a -f -c 2 c0t3d0s6
    # metadb -a -c 2 c0t4d0s6
6/ Create a volume out of the remaining slices from each disk:
    # metainit d0 1 2 c0t3d0s7 c0t4d0s7
7/ Create a new UFS on the volume and mount it:
    # newfs /dev/md/rdsk/d0
    # mount -F ufs /dev/md/dsk/d0 /data
8/ Restore the data to the new filesystem and restart the database application
This is just an example, but if you read through the documentation for your version of Disk Suite you will understand this example more. As I said in my last post, this is a hard question to answer, most disk configuration are unique and depend on what application you are using. A typical configuration for an E450 with 4 slots might be - disk 0 and 1 containing OS and mirrored for availability and the ramaining disks configured for some type of volume to be used for data. Keep in mind that with the E450, you can expand up to 20 drives, so if you can get another backplane you may be able to reconfigure your system to give better availability.

  • How to configure Sun Java System Application Server Enterprise Edition 8.1

    hi all,
How to configure Sun Java System Application Server Enterprise Edition 8.1 to my IDE..( jstudio)
I have installed jes for my windows system.. so that i have removed platform version of Application Server..
I try to add the Enterprise application Server (Sun Java System Application Server Enterprise Edition 8.1) to JStudio IDE..
    but i couldn't;

Configuring your IDE to integrate with Sun App Server is something you probably will have to ask in some sort of JStudio forum. Other than for Netbeans, Eclipse, or possibly IntelliJ IDEA, you might not have much luck answering an IDE question here. I could be wrong though. Maybe somebody will have an answer for you and set me straight.

You either have a mechanically or electronically failed disk drive or else your Operating System (I an presuming it is Solaris on that SPARC system) is completely mucked up.
If it is the OS at issue, you will need to install everything fresh.
If it is the 18GB disk drive, you will need to replace it and install everything fresh.
Either way, at some point you will have to go get your OS installation media and install everything fresh. The solution is not that difficult to understand.

  • Installing Windows Server 2008 on Sun Ultra 24

I have a Sun Ultra 24 that I previously had Windows Server 2003 64 bit installed and working fine.
I am going through the process to install Windows Server 2008 R2 64 bit, and it is failing at the last step of completing the install, saying that windows failed to install components.
Prior to installing, I loaded the drivers for Intel ICH9 SATA AHCI Controller from my Drivers and Tools 1.4 disk and formatted the drive that was previously used. I am not attempting to install RAID and there are no additional hardware components in my system.

when restaring the windows after that it give me the below message in the attached image from the KVM consol

  • How to proactively monitor health of  the Disks on Sun Enterprise 450

We have been encountering frequent disk problems lately, most commonly disk read/write errors. I want to see if there was a way to monitor and anticipate problems in a proactive manner instead of reacting after the problem?
We have a Sun Enterprise 450 with 20 disks and run Solaris 8. I have a metastat script in the cron to check the status every hour. Can anyone advise me on an automated processes which can monitor and report health of our disks before anything goes wrong?
    Thanks in advance.

Perhaps it is a good idea to check the grown defect list from a disk.
You can check the list with the "format" command (defect / grown).
Some entries in this list are OK, but if its grown fast, you should
    consider to change the disk.

  • Sun4u Sun Enterprise 450 SUNWhwrd

    Hi
    I'm quite new to Solaris
I've installed solaris 9 on my Enterprise 450 . After installation I wasn't able to see disks attached to my raid controller. If i run probe-scsi-all I see my disks, but not with format. I've found a patch about this problem (115548-01) but the patch make no changes cause the pakage SUNWhwrd is not installed. I'm unable to find that driver on my cd's and on sunsolve. Anyone can help me? is this stil supported?
    Regards

Go to the Hardware Forum tab of this forum site.
    http://forum.java.sun.com/index.jspa?tab=hardware
Use the forum search function for "src/p".
View the many postings that already exist on the subject.
The driver packages were only on the CD that accompanied that long-discontinued RAID card.
I suggest you remove it, replace it with a normal SCSI card (e.g. p/n 375-0005)
    http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/E450/components.html#SCSI
and use a software RAID instead.
That would be best if you ever think you may upgrade to Solaris 10.
The SRC/P RAID controller isn't supported in Solaris 10.

  • Webservice Connection Timeout Error in Sun Java System Application server

I have a java code to connect to Ebay Shopping Webservice that uses the client stub generated through Axis. The code works fine when I run it from the main method of a stand alone Java application. However when I use the same code inside a JSF based Web Application, a connection timeout error comes up. The Web application is deployed on the Sun Java System Application server. The JDK version on my machine is 1.5.0_14. Can somebody point me as where I should be looking for errors?

You need to delete all the files under the 'generated' directory to force the server to recompile them after the JDK upgrade. Also check in domain.xml and make sure the JVM parameter is pointing to the JDK that you have installed. It is also worthwhile to check asenv.conf to see which JDK that file is pointing to as well.

  • Installation Iplanet 4.1 Enterprise Web Server on Linux RedHat 7.1

I am trying to install IPlanet 4.1 Enterprise Web Server on Linux RedHat 7.1.
After unloading the software from CDROM to a temp directory, and run ./setup, I get the following error:
eroor while loading shared libraries; libncurses.so.4: cannot load shared object file : no such file or directory.
Has anyone know how to resolve it??. Thanks.
