Sun v240 dvd not showing in probe-scsi

hi
error message is
cannt open boot device
when i write boot cdrom

The optical drives in V210/V240 systems are IDE drives.
You won't see them via probe-scsi.
You will need to do a probe-ide to see them.
As for your boot error, try replacing the media with known bootable commercially created disks.
If that doesn't work, then replace the optical drive.

  • DVDs not showing up in Finder (CDs OK)

I have lots of data archived on DVD. Now DVDs suddenly will not show up on the desktop, data or otherwise. Odd, because I just burned a DVD last night.
Didn't there used to be a CD/DVD control panel in System Prefs? Seems to be gone in OS X 10.34.9

Indeed, because I definitely needed that file.
I ran the combo updater, but no CD/DVD preference pane. I'm not gonna worry about that since things ran fine without it (up till now). Don't want the bother of an Archive and Install, which still might not fix it.
My current suspect for all this is my CD/DVD drive. For several months I've had intermittent problems trying to eject discs and I've done every software fix I can think of and then some. Spent more time working "on" my computer than working with it. So I've ordered the Pioneer version of the Superdrive and we'll see if that fixes it.
    Thanks for the suggestions.

    HI Gary,
At least you could retrieve important files off the
    one DVD! That's something.
I'm mystified why CD/DVD doesn't show up in your
System Prefs. Try the 10.4.9 combo updater but also
make sure you check to make sure you have any
Firmware updates also. If you do the combo update,
download that from the Apple site, not the Software
    Updater:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_upd
    ates/macosx1049comboupdateppc.html
If necessary, can you back everything up and do
either an Archive and Install or Erase and Install?

  • Blank CD/DVDs not showing up in finder

    Hi,
When I insert a brand new blank cd or dvd, it does not show up in finder or the desktop, which is how i used to make data dvds and such. however it does write in itunes or idvd, it will write to it and recognize it. any ideas?

Open up preferences and then go to CDs & DVDs. For the options on "When you insert a blank CD/DVD" choose "Open Finder." This should work for you.

  • DVD not showing up

At some point, my TiBook just gave up the ghost of CDs/DVDs, it played them fine then suddenly, it would accept them but not show them on the hard drive. Any thoughts on whether this is a software issue or a hardware issue?

Is this because i am an idiot and need a DVD drive?
Have you got a DVD drive?
Have you been able to playback DVDs before? If not, then you may very well need a DVD drive... not just a CD drive.
You'll be able to tell what you have by looking in 'My Computer' when there are no discs in the drives. The drives should show up as things like: 'CD-ROM Drive(D:)' or 'CD/DVD Drive(D:)'. If none of the drives have DVD in the title, you may just need a DVD drive.
If you have any luck getting them to show up, take a look at this thread for help on ripping DVDs to iPod.

  • Importing from DVD not showing full video

I'm trying to import a video (VOB file) from a DVD, but the full frame of the video is not showing. The frame size that is importing seems to be importing as a different frame size than the video is and I can't seem to change it. The import seems to be cropping it. If I adjust the size in the Program Sequence window, it is showing the cropped version of the video.
Can any of the other files on the DVD be imported such as the IFO file?

... What other formats can iMovie & iDVD use? What do you recommend? ...just dv. and for stills jpeg, tifff.. and for music aiff, mp3... but that was not your question any other video-codec gets converted/has to be converted...
... which are apparently very, very big - one half-hour folder was 6 GB...rule: 1h video = ~13Gb... that is the amount of data on tape... iM uses a digital copy of that. many other codecs do a much better compression, BUT lossy!
... many times bigger than it needs to be...no, a video-DVD is meant for playback only...the compression codec just stores the delta(=difference) from frame to frame... for edit purposes, you need the info of EVERY frame on tape...
... How should I adjust the settings if I want to get an hour's worth of video & audio on a standard 4.7 GB blank DVD-R?
...you don't do settings using iDVD. this app needs a dv stream to work in the highest possible quality. use the export to iDVD feature of iM.
in case, you spend a few k$, you can buy DVDSP, including a tool called Compressor... after learning a few years to handle it, you can result smaller files with higher quality.....

  • DVDs not showing up correctly on desktop

I have a friend who is having this problem and I tried to help last night:
DVDs that are authored in DVD Studio Pro or iDVD will show up on the desktop as DVDs with the round DVD icon w/DVD logo on the icon. DVDs that are recorded on a set top Sony DVD recorder show up as a folder with a red minus sign on the bottom.
We both have the same kind of computers, same version system software, etc.
What we're trying to do with the DVD is open it up in MPEG Streamclip, so we can extract the M2V and AC3 files off and re-author with custom menus.
On my computer this morning, the recorded DVD showed up as a folder with a minus sign, but MPEG Streamclip was able to recognize that it was a disc in the first place, whereas the friend's computer - MPEG Streamclip did not recognize that there was a disc there.
The discs do actually mount on the computers and are playable in Apple's DVD Player in both cases. In MPEG Streamclip I have been going to "Open DVD" and on my computer the DVD shows up in that left pane with all the hard drives, networked drives, flash drives, etc., so I'm able to select it. But on the friend's computer, it does not show up in that left pane where it can be selected. So I can't get to the DVD's directory in the first place.
I tried everything I knew how, and researched a bit online as well, and I think I learned that the folder with the minus sign in general is related to permissions. I also saw online that this may be a Sony DVD recorder thing with their navigation structure.
However, we had a disc on the friend's computer that did work a few weeks ago in MPEG Streamclip, but doesn't now. So I think there must have been some setting that was changed. Roxio Toast may have been installed after this first DVD was readable, but I didn't see anything in Toast's preferences that would seem to affect this.
I'd like to try a disc that was recorded on my Panasonic DVD recorder on the friend's computer next time I get out that way.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!
    Casey Petersen

Hmmm...that's interesting with the Sidebar preference...I'll have to check that on the other computer whenever I get out there next. I'll try disabling it on mine to see if it does the same thing.
    Thanks!

  • "Sony_Volume_Recorder_Volume DVD" not showing files

    Hi all,
I had some video tapes transferred onto dvd by a local company. When I got them
home I tried to open the dvd on my Mac to transfer files onto my hard drive but I got the message
above "SonyVolume_RecorderVolume DVD" with small no entry symbol on the folder. I have done a bit of research so I know Sony is not compatible with Mac (- I wish I knew before I had them transferred!) but I don't know how to get these video files to show so that I can save them?
I must stress, these are my home videos; I own the rights to them. I just want to be able to
save them and maybe edit them iMovie.
Is there some special software I can buy to open these sony dvds? I read about
the Terminal thingy; but when I am wary about going into the "guts" of the computer?
I did try some "sudo" thing in Terminal I found on the internet, but it didn't work.
Can anyone help? Am really frustrated at not being able to save these precious memories properly.
    Many thanks

    Hi,
the format is Universal Disk Format (UDF)
It says under Sharing and Permissions that I have no access
and the files will not show up in the folder which has a no entry sign on it.
These are my own home movies; I just had them copied from video to dvd in the hopes of
    saving them forever.
    Thanks,

  • DVD not showing up in Finder

When I pop in a blank DVD, it doesn't show up in my finder even though I have CDs, DVDs, and Ipods enabled in the finder preference under sidebar.

In System Preferences CD's and DVD's, where it says "When you insert a blank DVD" just check that there is not selected 'ignore', and instead choose Open Finder.

  • HP Pavillion DV9705ea (DV9000 series) CD/DVD not showing - Cannot boot from CD/DVD - BIOS issues!

    All,
I'm having some issues here with a HP Pavillion DV9705ea machine (DV9700). I'm looking at this for a client. It had Vista home and it dropped the DVD - Wasn't in Device manager either. I checked the drivers and the Microsoft 'Fix It' man, which my client had used (Automated Troubleshooting Services) had put some random, unrelated driver in there. I removed the driver and restored the original, but to no avail.
After much playing within the OS, I managed to convince my client that a rebuild was a good idea - Both to fix this, and a great opportunity for a refresh. I managed to coax them into a Windows 7 upgrade, cool - Or so I thought.
I backed-up all of the data, popped the disk in and attempted to boot. Nothing. The machine is unaware of the DVD. Odd. I managed to ruin the Vista build on the HDD - This was partly because I was sure it was about to be wiped and partly because I wasn't exactly careful when moving data within it and powering it down incorrectly due to freezing! Academic, Vista is gone.
I attempted to boot the recovery manager, using F11 - This worked. However, it throws a zig-zag'ed, stripy screen at around 70%. Have tried this several times.
I booted from a USB HDD and ran a version of VistaPE to update the BIOS from 'F2; to 'F32'. Although this was a success, the DVD is still not recognised. I have used an independantly powered Lenovo USB CD/DVD Burner to boot from and have had no joy.
I took a second HDD, popped it into a different shell and built XP on it. I then put this in the Pavilion and booted - Got the message "Operating System Not Found". I have used my USB HDD again and booted a partition manager, I can see the HDD from here, no problems. I can also see them from VistaPE.
Going forwards - I am going to remove the DVD drive from the machine and attempt to boot from my external drive. I'm in abit of a corner at the moment as all roads arrive at the same destination - Fail.
I'm thinking 3rd party driver required? Any thoughts surrounding this would be helpful!
If anyone can shed any light on the issue, fantastic - If not, well, then it'll be an RMA for my client as this machine is out of warranty as of Feb 2009.
    Cheers, Mike.

    Hello,
Its just to let you know that HP laptop are the worst in the world they have a Graphics chip error in almost every model especially in DV6000 and otherDV. Then, DVD/CD does not detect at all and its all motherboard hardware error. As, i do repairing myself I tried to resold all the joints for the connector for the DVD/CD it worked but as i took off DVD and replug it its as good as dead its motherboard failure.
Now, about cameras DV9000 have a very big issue for failure of builtin cameras i think these both problems have some common reason as both Builtin camera and DVD connector on same side of the MOBO.
Please help People save money and time. Stop them to buy HP. A sincere request.

  • Burned dvd not showing name or files.

I have burned an archive dvd by copying files onto the blank dvd and selecting the "burn" button from the finder window. Everything burns correctly and once the dvd has finished being verified, I have my uniquely named dvd and files displayed.
However, once the dvd is ejected, and then re-inserted, the dvd no longer has the name I have given it, and shows no files in the window.
How do I correct this? Are all the archive dvds I've burned no good?
    Robb

The above burned dvds mount correctly on other drives and files can be copied from them.
How do I get my drive to recognize these dvds as having been burned and contain data?

I have a the new Macbook pro, when I connect my Liteon USB DVD drive it does not show up my Macbook pro. The only DVD drive showing up is the one on my Macbook pro. How do I make the 2nd DVD drive show up. I just need to 2nd drive to tranfers data from dvd to the external drive.

Hi, ipodtrip1. Nothing will appear on your MBP's desktop unless there is a disc in the drive. Does a disc in the drive not appear either?
If not, does System Profiler detect the drive as a connected device?
If you have another USB device you can connect to your computer, disconnect the optical drive and connect the other device. Does System Profiler detect that device?
If not, reset the System Management Controller, and see whether doing so reactivates your USB port.

  • Edu DVD in computer iTunes but does not show up in iPad iTunes or iPad video.  How do I make the DVD contents available on the iPad?

Educational DVD added successfully to computer iTunes but does not show up in iPad iTunes or iPad video.  How do I make the DVD contents available on the iPad?

Thanks!  For whatever bizarre reason for which I have no answer - I sync'd my iPad to my MBP the old fashion way (not iCloud) and the movie showed up just fine.  It is Nikon camera 'how to' video. I like to watch them for a better indepth discovery of what the camera can do.  The only weird thing about the hard wire sync is that it was placed in a catagory "home movies" which was never there before...actually it showed up in two places "home movies" and TV shows.
    So, thanks anyway!  Pretty cat!
