Sun V240 Server Warning Light (Amber)

Hi.
I have an amber 'Tools' warning light on a V240 Sun server (Sol 8) with an S1 3x Disk array connected.
The S1 disk array is fine all disks ok.
Can anyone tell me how I can check what the amber light means from a command prompt or any other method.
I am not at the site at present and cannot physically see the server but can remote telnet to the server.
Thanks
Darren

Well, you can look for warning messages in /var/adm/messages.
Its also worth looking through the output of /usr/platform/`uname -i`/sbin/prtdiag -v

  • SMC 3.5 Unable to view or Load mdules of Sun v240 server

    Hi,
    I have installed a new SMC 3.5 on Sun v240 server. The SMC installed is without any errors. But, I am not able to get any menus like process monitoring, Logs menu...etc. when i double click the object in the console. I am getting only Info, and Modules. Even, the Load Module option is not highligthed.
    I am having another questions. Can we monitor server which are on another Subnet. If we can, can i know the port numbers to be opened between the subnets.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Anjan

    Hi,
    I am able to ping the agents on the other subnet and also able to pull the agent to SMC console. But when i double click on the agent i will not be able to view any modules. Other than that i am able to see all the menu option. I have opened the firewall ports from 161-168 udp and 10000-10100 udp ports.
    Do i need to do any other changes in configuration or on the firewall.
    Regards,
    Anjan

  • Xserve has a warning light

    The warning light is flashing and has a high pitch beeping sound... Anyone experience this or know what to do if this happens?

    Hi
    Assuming you do mean the XServe rather than the XServe RAID and it's an amber light it could be the start of a problem or nothing at all. If there's an Apple RAID Card installed it could be the battery reconditioning itself. Launch Server Monitor and see what it says. The Event Log should provide further clues.
    If you really do mean XServe it has its own forum here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=854
    If you really mean the XServe RAID the amber light is usually a warning that the drive is in a degraded state either because it's failed or it's failing. Launch RAID Admin and see what it says. If it reports a failed drive replace it with the spare - assuming you have one?

  • SUN 280R Server

    Hi Guys,
    I know that thius is not the forum for Sun but I've got a problem with the sun 280R Server that has our Oracle 10g database. When I switch the server on, It does switch on because there's a green light but there's also an orange light with a spanner. What can I do? Please assist this is the production server and no one can assist.
    Thanx.

    Thanx.I do not have one of these servers, but by performing a couple of Google searches I was eventually able to find the owner's guide for the server and the service manual. The documentation states that the light color is amber, rather than orange - so that might explain part of the problem in searching for an answer.
    The owner's guide:
    http://dlc.sun.com/pdf/806-4806-10/806-4806-10.pdf
    PDF page 38 (page 10 in the page footer) states that a fan failure could cause the amber light to turn on, a power supply has failed, or another problem has happened (RAM or CPU failure?).
    PDF page 223 (page 195 in the page footer) states how to quickly see if the amber light means a power supply failure. There are apparently amber lights on the back of the server next to each of the power supplies - if one of those amber lights is lit, the hot swap power supply needs to be replaced.
    The service manual:
    http://dlc.sun.com/pdf/806-4807-10/806-4807-10.pdf
    PDF page 189 (page 163 in the page footer) indicates how to isolate the failed component.
    You might try unplugging the server from the electric power for 1 minute, then plugging it back in, to test if it was just a temporary "power good" problem report from the power supplies. If that does not fix the problem, see if one of the power supplies is showing an amber light. If not, verify that the three internal fans are functioning.
    Good luck.

    You are correct. Dir 5.2 is not certified for AIX 5.2. It does install though. Like a previous reponse stated. Check the permissions for the user you are installing with and the file system you are installing to. Make certain you have enough disk space. My install took 150 MB of disk space. Finally, Dir 5.2 creates the file "/var/adm/sw/productregistry" during install. If you do not have permissions to /var/adm/sw, you may have troubles.

The PATH must be consistently formated (e.g. C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0\bin; ) or the Appserver may not be able to start and/or stop.  Mixed quoted spaces in your PATH can cause problems, so the launcher will remove all double quotes before invoking the process. The most reliable solution would be to remove all spaces from your path before starting the Appservers components.  |#]

    The missing class is part of the Java Dynamic Management Kit (JDMK)
    and is in the JAR file 'jdmkrt.jar'
    In my SOLARIS 9 installation the path is
    /opt/SUNWjdmk/5.1/lib/jdmkrt.jar
    My solution was to edit the the asadmin shell script
    and add the path to the above JAR file in its CLASSPATH
    $ vi /opt/SUNWappserver/sbin/asadmin
    -Djava.library.path=...:/opt/SUNWjdmk/5.1/lib: ...

  • How to configure sun application server 8.2 for Oracle RAC 10g

    Hello,
    We have numerous boxes running the sun platform application server 8.2 and 2 boxes running enterprise version 8.2 all connecting to a 4 node Oracle RAC 10 G release 2 database. We have the system up and working. The application servers are connecting just fine to the database and the apps don't have any problems querying, inserting, etc. However, when we try to do failover testing of situations when a node or nodes of the Oracle RAC database goes down the application server does not gain new valid connections. Our configuration is this, OracleDataSource for the data source, table validation turned on with a valid table, ONS configuration set in properties, connectionCache enabled, and fastconnectionfailover enabled as well in the properties. We have that long oracle rac url with load balancing turned on set fot the database URL. We have the checkbox checked to fail all connections on any failure. ONS is configured properly within the database because we have a java application that runs outside of the application server that uses all the same settings described above (only set manually in our code for the OracleDataSource). This application works seemlessly when DB nodes are shutdown. We can shutdown all but one node and it's still humming along without skipping a beat. Start up one of the others, kill the last node, it still hums along nicely without skipping a beat. We'd really like to get the applications running in the application server to work the same way. Any help would be greatly appreciated. We've tried all the combinations that we can think of with configuration settings in the application server and it never works. Am tempted to rip out the database connection pool from inside the application server and configure it manually in the code but we are using entity beans and this is the much easier approach, if it will work. It's down to the point of does sun application server actually work with oracle RAC for connection failovers.

    Hi,
    We are also facing similar execption. Here is the error, we are getting, when a node is failed on RAC.

    Can anyone please help
    The version is Java Sun App Server 8.2 version!
    Should i delete the file productregistry in the windows32 folder?
    Regards,

    I resolved the problem, the main reason was their was appserv-rt.jar file in the Java lib folder, once this was taken out, it worked perfectly.

  • JSF,Tiles, Sun App Server and NetBeans 5.5

    hi all,
    here is my environment :
    1.Server - Sun Application Server (Running On Suse Linux OS)
    2.IDE - NetBeans 5.5
    3.Project - JSF with Tiles
    here i found topic about tiles and jsf :
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=643536&messageID=3792238 but i think that Tiles is best alternative for JSF Layout Manager (It's my mind).
    is there anybody help me how to integrate tiles with jsf ?
    here is my example :
    1.web.xml :
        <servlet>
            <servlet-name>Tiles Servlet</servlet-name>
            <servlet-class>org.apache.struts.tiles.TilesServlet</servlet-class>
            <init-param>
                <param-name>definitions-config</param-name>
                <param-value>/WEB-INF/tiles-def.xml</param-value>
            </init-param>
            <load-on-startup>2</load-on-startup>
        </servlet>2. tiles-def.xml :
    <tiles-definitions>
             <!--****************************************************************-->
         <!--                     Global Layout                       -->
         <!--****************************************************************-->
         <definition name="global.layout" path="/pages/Mylayout/layout.jsp">
              <put name="title" value="Magti Billing System" type="string"></put>
                    <put name="subtitle" value="Magti Billing System" type="string"></put>
                    <put name="header" value="/pages/Mylayout/header.jsp"></put>
              <put name="subheader" value="/pages/Mylayout/sub_header.jsp"></put>
              <put name="footer" value="/pages/Mylayout/footer.jsp"></put>
                    <put name="body" value="/pages/Mylayout/body.jsp"></put>
                    <put name="left_menu" value="/pages/Mylayout/left_menu.jsp"></put>
         </definition>
    </tiles-definitions>3.and then i have 5 blank jsp pages : body.jps, footer.jsp, header.jsp, layout.jsp, left_menu.jsp, sub_header.jsp.
    4. here is my layout.jsp code :
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

    Hi,
    I'm trying to use Tiles with NetBeans 6.0. I used a similar set up as the other writer did, except for the JSP:root part:
    <jsp:root version="2.1"
    xmlns:f="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core"
    xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html"
    xmlns:jsp="http://java.sun.com/JSP/Page"
    xmlns:webuijsf="http://www.sun.com/webui/webuijsf"
    xmlns:tiles="http://jakarta.apache.org/struts/tags-tiles">
    It complies and deploys OK, except it renders a blank page. The source code of the page is below. It seems that the "tiles:insertDefinition" was not expanded. Would you share some lights on how you get it to work. By the way I did not use shale-tiles, do I need it?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Sun Application Server -  Trouble starting default server

    Hi everyone.
    I am new to J2EE and am currently trying to get the Sun Appliation Server to run, but am having difficulties.
    I have installed version 1.4 of J2EE SDK.
    Running Windows XP SP2.
    When I run the program Start Default Server, it hangs for ages on the message "Starting Domain1, please wait" and finally after about a minute or so gives me an error message stating:
    "Timeout waiting for domain domain1 to go to starting state.
    CLI156 Could not start the domain domain1."
    I have been told that it is very common to get problems with the port you choose for the JMS to be the same as somehting else on your PC. I have experimented with different port numbers (all of which not in current use - as indiated by netstat -a in the cmd window).
    If anyone knows anything else I could try that would be great and much appreciated.
    Cheers
    Phill

  • No response from Sun Application Server PE 8.2

    Hi all,
    I am using Sun Application Server PE 8.2 on windows XP service pack 2 professional edition, and jdk 1.4.1_01.
    The problem I am facing is that the server is not responding, even though it is listening at the respective ports(4848 for admin, 8080 for http..etc) as I can see 'netstat' command.
    I have checked the server logs and it shows the following output :-
    [#|2006-08-23T13:38:13.890+0530|WARNING|sun-appserver-pe8.2|javax.enterprise.tools.launcher|_ThreadID=10;|LAUNCHER005:Spaces in your PATH have been detected. |#]
