Sunday Surprise - GX60-3CC

As usual, I woke up today and my parents came back from outside with this box. I am surprise by the box with MSI logo on it. My parents bought a gaming notebook for me as I am able to enter Malaysia University. This is a gift full of meaning behind it. I decided to use my phone to snap some photo in order to share the unboxing excitement with all of you. Hahaz..
So this is the box of my GX60!!! Excited right? Besides, they did gave a classical bag pack with Dragon G-series logo. The quality of the bag was good. The bag is a quality bag pack which very suit the notebook. Although the bag is slightly big but it allow me to put in as many things as possible. Hehex...I like the bag as well. And I am not going to post the picture here as that is not the main things of the notebook. :p Let's see my GX60?
Hehex...Ain't it looked pretty? Lolz. The surface is very cold when I touch on it. It look nice in any angle and I do believe the surface will be sustain in this good condition if I take good care on it. Hahaz... Especially the logo. It is so attractive. Hahaz....let's see clearer? Hahaz...
So this is my GX60. The most attractive part in whole notebook!!! Hahaz....go get one if you like it. Lolz...
So this is my GX60!! It built in the highest spec in the world currently. Steelseries keyboard make me don't want to remove my hand on it. It is good in handling and so smooth!! Sensitive some more!!! Omg....it is my dream to have steelseries keyboard on my notebook and now I get it!!! It has to credit to my parents and MSI!!! Thanks.
Besides, they do have audio boost and sound blaster which allow me to enjoy better sound system in my notebook while I listening to music and watching movie. It will be awesome if they build in dynaudio into it but I understand if they build in then I will never get this notebook with this price. Hahaz...it show slightly bad without the dynaudio but the sound overall is great!!! More than enough if I compare this to other notebook. So I will still love you GX60!! No worry k? Lolz...
GX60 build in the best cooler system in the world which is cooler boost which allow me to use my notebook in longer hour which mean I can play games in longer hour without worry of the temperature of my notebook!! Hehex...ain't it attractive? Lolz...
As usual, they have 3 USB3.0 in their left hand side. 3 USB3.0 allow me to transfer my data faster. I will be enjoy better speed instead of old technology!! Hahaz. Let's see the right hand side of the notebook.
Nothing special. It build in one USB2.0 and a dvd drive. It does not very attract me with the port they have build in but they attract me with the hardware they have build in. And the spec!!! Hahaz...
So this is the detail specification of my MSI GX60!! Ain't it attractive? Hehex....I going to test the notebook liao! See you next time...lolz

enjoy the game with MSI laptop, you'll love it!! Congrats

were can I get steelseries engine for GX60 3CC?

SteelSeries Engine only supports on certain models and sad to say that GX60 3CC isn't in the list, so that's why you can't find the download link anywhere.

  • GX60 3CC - GPU driver bug (it makes the GPU go full load in standby)

Hi, I have a GX60 destroyer with the R9 M290X, and it runs games awesome, but there's a problem, sometimes the GPU goes full load when I'm doing nothing (Temperature: 75 C), after trying some things in the CCC and power options, I decided to uninstall the AMD drivers (it's the same with the drivers from MSI and from AMD), and in the uninstalling process the GPU went from 75 C to 50 C, after that I reinstalled the same drivers and the GPU went to normal temperatures (45 C or less), after one week the same happened, it takes 15 mins to reinstall the drivers but anyway maybe there's a fix.

I'm wondering if you can get your hands on a different Power Supply to slave in if that HD doesn't turn out to be the problem.
I'd also check the 4 pin cpu power plug (I'm pretty sure that's what it's for...  ).
Mine wasn't fully seated and I ended up with a month or so of random boot/no boot issues every time I moved the case.
Simple things, but who knows, sometimes it's just that second set of eyes or hands we need to find the problem.
    Good luck!

**UPDATE**- Tried Flashing EC with no results, returned to older BIOS config and nothing, I couldn't flash VBIOS because it throws me some kind of an error in FreeDOS - it says that atiflash.exe -p 0 -f wrong command or file.
    What's your current vbios version?
    Quote from: Fenzo;112670
**UPDATE 2** - Seems to be a problem with the VBIOS, this morning I did the same thing as I told you (remove battery unplug....) and it didn't worked (the temperature reading was 255 again), so I thought what I did wrong this time, and I realized that the times it worked I had the external monitor unplugged from the computer, so I shut it down I just removed the VGA connector from the external monitor and voilá it started like a charm. So now I think it's the VBIOS problem, and yesterder I tried to flash it but I couldn't if someone knows how please help me, of course I read the MSI pdf to flash it but when I select in FreeDOS the option FVBIOS.bat it says this error:
atiflash.exe -p 0 -f wrong command or file. or something of that kind, and if I select directly the atiflash.exe it show up a list of commands and options of the program.
Can you tell what external monitor are you using and the graphics driver version?
Does the situation happen only when connecting to a external monitor?

Right click on the desktop> choose Configure Switchable Graphics>Add Application...>choose the program or game you want to run by the dedicated graphics>set the Graphics Setting to "High Performance"
Check the power button, it lights orange when dedicate graphics is in use.

  • I am going to buy a GX60 - but have several questions!

    Hello folks,
Im a huge fan of MSI products and have decided to upgrade from my CR630 to a GX60. But I am trying to find out what upgrades I can do with regard to storage/SSDs. I keep finding mixed information and I am struggling to clarify what I am buying. The model specifically I am looking at buying is the "GX60 3CC-296UK".
    So:
    1) Does this have two standard 2.5" SATA bays i.e. one standard 2.5" HDD and one 2.5" SSD? Because I have found one website that seems to think it has one standard HDD and two mSata slots.
    2) I have found another website which claims that it can have one standard HDD and "up to 128Gb SSD". Why is it limited to 128Gb on a particular SATA channel? Or perhaps that some websites sell this with a 128Gb SSD pre installed!?!
    and
    3) Usually when a device has USB3.0, it also has SATA 3. Does this laptop take advantage of the 6gb/s of SATA 3 if I did put a SSD into it? I have found another website which seems to think the laptop is only SATA 2 i.e. 3gb/s.
For anyone who has taken the time to read this, thank you for your time and would greatly appreciate anyones thoughts if they are able to assist!
    Regards,
    Iain

Well It arrived today and sadly I am a little disappointed.
First I have never used Windows 8 before, but couldn't even get into windows without being coerced into making an account with microsoft (not going to happen) and agreeing to terms and conditions with Norton Symantec (again, not going to happen).
So, within minutes - cheerio windows 8, hello windows 7 ultimate. So to BIOS we go! Before I could change boot priorities and what do I find...
HGST 1Tb - yeah not going to happen either.
I didn't spend all this just to be stuck with a deathstar in my laptop. It's like saving up for a BMW 5 series only to find a Renault engine.
I actually had a stopclock running for a laugh. It took 9 mins 23 seconds from opening the box to me removing the warranty sticker to rip that piece of S£%$ HDD out and replace it with a WD Black.
As for the RAM? Something generic would be nice, you know something I can buy another of. A specially made Kingston RAM module with a model number starting MSI - oh goody, so when I upgrade to 16gb I need to buy a whole new set just to get a matching pair.
MSI, I love you to bits - but this is testing my patience and better be bloody good once I get it going...
    1) Get used to it. Windows will keep the windows login authentication (any hotmail.com account works btw) in windows 9 and up. It isn't going away. So have fun when windows 7 loses support in 2-3 years from now.
    2) As for norton.. you could have just removed it, it is not tied to anything with MSI and really is just a standard free bloatware crap you get in any computer these days.
    3) Hitachi has been purchased and fully owned by WD. Your WD Black is simply a HGST these days.
    4) The MSI ram in it, is nothing more but a rebranded Kingston ValueRam, so any Valueram from kingston works as long as it uses the same specs as the laptop.
Also turn of Fast Boot in the Bios to allow the laptop to boot from the DVD, or simply press F11

  • GX60 returned from repair, missing features

I received my GX60 3CC-296UK back from repairs today, when I booted it up, I noticed that various elements that were there previously when I initially brought the system are gone or are not properly working and I am unsure how to fix them. The main things missing/causing issue I found are:
All of the touch buttons located by the power button, such as the fan boost button and the keyboard LED button, are not working, I am completely unsure how I can fix this or if I am able to at all.
I am missing some programs that initially came with the system, such as the Dragon Gaming Center
When I check my Graphics cards, they appear in Device Manager as "AMD Radeon 8650G", which I believe was there before as the power saving graphics card, and the other appears as "AMD Radeon(TM) HD8970M" Which I am sure is meant to be my AMD R9 M290X but isn't being listed correctly.
I did download and install the drivers and Utility programs here (http://www.msi.com/support/nb/GX60_Destroyer.html) for my OS, which is currently Windows 8 64 bit, however if I finish the updates and then upgrade to Windows 8.1, will this affect anything I have already done?

Alright, will finish the upgrade to 8.1, see what happens then.
Also the issue before was the system wouldn't boot up at all, I had it RMA'd through MSI themselves, and when it came back, the system had been wiped and I found things missing as said, like Dragon Gaming Center and AMD Catalyst Control Center

  • GX60 Destroyer (3CC) VGA Questions

    Hallo all,
i bougth last Week the GX60 Destroyer with the R9 M290X Grafikcard.
But in BIOS and Hardwaremonitorprogs it allways show "only" the HD8970.
I know that it is the same chip, but it has little differenz. HD8970 is only DX11.1 and R9 290X is DX 11.2
Its a littel bit confused about that, why MSI says R9 290X but built in only HD8970....
    And now a little issue,
i have flashed the newest BIOS/EC Firmeware and vBIOS, but after i do that the Grafikcard now has only 900MHz RAM Speed instead of original 1200MHz?
    What is happen?
Why did MSI dropt the RAM Speed?

I must use the new vBios that show on the Destroyer support site, it the .212 Version.
And yes, it still runs at only 900Mhz.
I have tried the 201 and 202,that have MSI send to me. But after i flash the bios, window7 run into a Bluescreen with unfunny noise "chhrrrr chhrrrr, very unfunny :o). I can deinstall the CCC and all AMD Driver an it runs into Win7, but when i install the AMD Driver.. bang... Bluescreen.
I dont know why i cant flash an older bios...
The CPU Power of the A10-5750 is not so very high, so Mantle can show here what it can.. Battlefield 4 runs very smoother in Mantle as in DX.
And yes surely you can add profiles but you must know for every single game what you do... and iam not a Programmer to know what for settings im muste use to run a game "better" .

  • Can't get GX60 to use its dragonslaying-lavaspitting-overpowered Radeon HD 7970M

    Hello everyone,
I have recently bougth the GX60 Hitman Edition (OS-less) and installed Windows 8 on it. Got most of the drivers, among which the chipset one (ATI Comel Chipset/VGA driver). I installed some games and found out all of them were running incredibly slow (it's totally unplayable). I thought if ALL of them were slow, probably the graphic card wasn't working (supposedly AMD Radeon HD 7970M). I checked Control Panel > System > the thingy called Device Manager or something like that in the category Display : turned out that Windows recognized another graphic card (Radeon 8650, I bet it's integrated to the CPU ?) but no trace of Super Saiyan HD 7970M.
I tried installing the driver directly from the AMD website, seems to provide me the same program as the MSI drivers list - I get a software called Catalyst Control Center. But still no Mastersword Grailseeker Radeon 7970M in my components list.
Uninstalled, reinstalled, redownloaded, etc. didn't work. Let's not talk about rebooting either.
In my poorly inspired crusade, I ended up uninstalling the only graphic card Windows was able to detect (Radeon 8650). It was indicated as malfunctionning (Error 43). Asking Windows to automatically detect anything allowed me to reinstall this once... but not twice : now the card is gone and nowhere to be found. It's a pity, but I don't see any change whatsoever - games don't seem slower than before (but that would've been hard anyway).
Now, as you imagine, the question is : why is my graphic card pretending to be a ghost ? How may I convince it to be of any use ? What might I have messed up ? I might have made a more or less important mistake while installing W8, so please do not restraint yourself from asking me to check the basics.
Fun fact : this computer seems to have a plane mode. There indeed is a little plane-shaped light on the keyboard ; the thing is, this little guy's always lit. Supposedly fn+F10 should switch this mode off, but it doesn't change a thing.
Fun fact 2 : there's a sticker on the keyboard, with a summary of this computer's characteristics. Including the GPU. Which is indicated as "AMD Radeon HD 8970M". Simple spelling mistake... ?
Thank you very much for reading. I hope someone has a hint about that... ? I've already googled my problem quite a lot and found some resembling issues, but no solution whatsoever.

If the video card isn't detected it's usually 1 of 2 problems....
    1. The GPU MXM module isn't properly seated and it isn't being detected because it's not properly connected.
    2. The GPU MXM module is flat out faulty and needs to be replaced.
Either of these scenario's wouldn't surprise me. You wouldn't be the first person I've seen with the MXM module being slightly loose and not correctly installed. It might have shifted during shipping if it wasn't properly screwed down.
It also wouldn't be the first that I've seen get a new notebook with a video card that's flat out broken.
Best thing I can say to do is contact MSI about an RMA.

  • GX60 with 7970m - same Enduro problem as in other notebooks with Enduro solution

    Hello,
I've purchased GX60 notebook few days ago. Very solid machine.
However, I did lot of reseach and trial and error using programs like MSi Afterburner, Fraps ect. and noticed that no matter witch VGA driver I use - be it the one from MSi driver page or AMD's 12.9 beta/AMD's 12.11 beta - the 7970m is working at about only 50-60% of it's horepower.
Crysis for instance uses only ~50% of 7970m, while clearly it should use 100% of it's power. Currently I am unable to play on ultra or extreme settings because the game lags too much.
Same with Skyrim, while game is playable on ultra settings, it also uses only 50-60% of the GPU.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution - same here.
I fiddled with CCC settings and tried a lot of combinations - still no dice nor effect...
Am I doing something wrong? or it is truly the A-10 CPU simply holding the 7970m back? (seems absurd since this is meant to be a gaming notebook capable of running games like Crysis 2 on ultra, isn't it?)
Is MSi going to fix the Enduro problem with a new driver? is MSi aware of this problem with Enduro at all?
Any tech/software support from MSi staff would be very much appriciated.
    Regards,
    LisuPoland

so if Use Switchable Graphics menu to assign performance profile for each game , will directly using AMD 7970 ,you sure?? have you check?
i would like to put one pic of my game setting that only show 7660G available in list for graphic adapter , but dunno how to insert pic here...
in order words, the notebook only can detect 7660G adapter....
While I'm not familiar with AMD's version of switchable graphics....I would imagine that you need to tell the driver/notebook that for this particular program, you want to use the 7970 card, and then when you run that program, it will detect it and automatically enable the 7970.
As far as the usage being so low with the 7970, I'm not sure what to say. I know that AMD's Enduro switchable graphics has always been buggy to say the least....it wouldn't surprise me if it didn't still quite work as expected.

There are good and bads here.
Take a look at this: http://anandtech.com/bench/product/842?vs=954
I know the GE40 isn't the same as the GP70, but it's close enough to get a good comparison. The GX60 and the GX70 you chose are very close in specs.....
As you can see, in some games the GX60 does slightly better, but in general, the GE40 does much better.
What it comes down to is that the A10 5750 is not really that great of a CPU for games, in fact it's pretty horrid. It just doesn't have the power to feed the GPU enough data to do well.
The GE40 (or GP70 for you) has an i7 in it, that will be fantastic for gaming. Even though it only has a GT840 in it, it'll do quite well. It might not play the games on HIGH settings with everything turned up, but it'll do well enough that you should be happy for the price.
Thanks for give me  advice but i have 1 more problem
i had 250 gb normal ssd what should i do GP70 dont have 1 extra sata slot only msata
