SunMC 3.5 Update 1b

Anyone install this yet? If so, what are your thoughts on it.
http://www.sun.com/download/index.jsp?cat=Systems%20Administration&tab=3&subcat=Systems%20Management

Hi mmoriaux,
I need to know if the SunMC 3.5 Update 1b agent is
supported by a server SUN V20Z (based on a AMD
Opteron processor) on a SOLARIS 10. I can't find this
information in any Sun documentation.SunMC 3.5.1a and later support any platform running Solaris 10 x86 (http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-1989/6n4ae1pqk?a=view), although you don't see any special modules for their hardware until 3.6 (and then only if you're running N1SM: http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817-7958/6mn891ldq?a=view)
My problem is that the agent seems to be
well-installed, but when it's started, the ports 161,
162 etc. are not in the state "listening" on the
server.Agents don't use port 162, only 161 (the SunMC Server is a different matter) ... and even then on any recent version of Solaris port 161 is taken by another process out-of-the-box.
So, are you sure the Agent is running? The process will be called "esd - init agent" in a ps listing.
And are you sure it's trying to use port 161? You can look in it's configuration file (/var/opt/SUNWsymon/cfg/domain-config.x) in the "agent = { ... }" section for the port:
agent = {
snmpPort = "XXXX"

  • Two instances of sunMC 3.5 update 1 anyone?

Up to SunMC 3.0 it was possible to run two instances of esd process with 2 separate configuration directories by exporting ESDIR variable to point to alternative cfg directory and starting the agent with /etc/init.d/init.es_agent start. Each directory would have domain-config.x with different port and virtual host information to prevent conflicts.
Unfortunately it is no longer possible in 3.5update 1. The agent would not start. After analyzing the logs it's relatively easy to assume that modifying ESDIR variable has no effect on which configuration directory is being used. /var/adm/messages shows that port (161 for ex.) is still being in use and second agent's startup fails.
    Sun response:
ESDIR variable acts differently in SunMC3.5update1 due to architectural differences comparing to previous version and is "hard coded" into a binary. This does not sound right, since no compilation is done during installation of the product. I am sure there are others who would support me that Sun lacks Management Center specialists with really deep knowledge of the product. Most of the answers and "action plans" are coordinated from publicly available to documentation and barely any help.
If anyone has any knowledge of "guts" of SunMC 3.5 update1 please help to accomplish above stated. This is very critical and very useful (with 3.0), since we recently migrated more than 300 hosts (agents) to latest version (35update1) as well as server layer. There is no way back. Running 3.0 on separate host to support such agents is not practical nor efficient.
Any ideas, workarounds, suggestions, criticism are welcome and greatly appreciated.

Problem is solved. Everything is ok after restarting computer(notebook).

  • Deployment of SunMC Master Port assignment ??

I need to change my trap port from the default 162 to 1162 because of its interference with snmp trap traffic. Is there an easy way to do this other than bringing down my entire SunMC environment and updating each of my agents individually ? Is there a way to push this out from the master to the agents ?
    Thanks.

SSO has a secret key that it uses to encrypt/decrypt values in the SSO DB which includes all of the port configuration values. When you configure SSO Service from the Configuration wizard you store a file with this key as a password on disk. You will
need this file in order for the SSO to work. If you have moved or lost this file you would need it back in order to get SSO working. Also see this thread
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/biztalkgeneral/thread/7cf95a34-2ea5-4335-b6b2-a986d3726754
    To restore the key see
How to Restore the Master Secret
The error can also occur if someone has changed the password of the SSO service account. For this you can find a solution here.

  • Configure sunMC 3.5 U 1 to forward traps to 3rd party NMS

    Hi,
Basically I am trying to set trap forwarding to a NNM on the network from sunMC 3.5 Update 1.
I have followed all the directions in sunMC snmp FAQ and other threads on this forum but I am not able to set the trap destinations.
I have added topology object and set the community as user name. When I try to perform a snmpset operation the error I get is as follows:
    $ ./snmpset -h sparc -p 162 -c user1 1.3.6.1.4.1.42.2.12.2.1.4.1.0 "OctetString" "{10.1.1.131}"
    Request Id: 0
    Error: noSuchName
    Index: 1
    Count: 1
    Name: 1.3.6.1.4.1.42.2.12.2.1.4.1.0
    Kind: OctetString
    Value: "{10.1.1.131}"
I had exported the mib for above OIDs from the sunMC agent in interactive mode.. and after loading it on NNM machine and performing same set operation I get the same (noSuchName) error.
I also came across command es-trapdest which allows one to add multiple trap destinations from sunMC agent (and not sunMC server). However even using this method I am unable to receive any traps from agents.
    Any help here is appreciated.

=0Have you reviewed the options in the other thread? (i.e. Halcyon SNMP integration or HP integration packages). Both are off-the-shelf and if you can understand SunMC SNMP infrastructure you certainly wouldn't have trouble configuring either. If you've looked at both packages, what parts made you decide not to use them? Note: I work for Halcyon.
Building your own custom integration with direct traps may be difficult: the generic snmp faq doens't have all the info you need to do so (i.e. how to get NNM to go backwards to an Agent to request the details of an event like "Warning /op is 95% full" or "Critical: Power Supply 2 is Offline"). I'm not even sure how I'd go about it, and I've been using SunMC for years :)

  • GD80 Status LED and System Suspend problem

    Hi everyone.
    My hardware:
    - MSI P55-GD80
    -BIOS AMI v1.4
    -Intel Core i7 860
    -OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) 1600MHz CL8 Gold Low-Voltage

    - Debian GNU/Linux "Squeeze", kernel 2.6.32, amd64
I have a problem with LEDs on motherboard. when they are lighting I can't "wake up" pc from S3 state (aka suspend). It just restarts when wake up event appears.
Actually the lighting LEDs are: 1&2 VTT_PHASE; "LED2" , which indicates active PCI-Express 16x port; CPU Phase LED panel (it shows 8) and + - buttons used for overclocking (OC Gene and these buttons are turned off in BIOS)
But the strangest thing is that the LEDs sometimes turns on and off (actually one day they do, in other they don't) when I turn on computer, even when they are disabled in BIOS (Green Power => Motherboard LED Control) [btw. Touch Panel is disabled and it still works  ]
I have cleared CMOS , swapped SATA cables and I have checked RAM and PCI-Express connection (sometimes when I reinsert graphic card everything starts to work well, but for a few days the problem appears again. The same goes to SATA cable  )
Anyway it looks to me like an error reporting (or something) but there is nothing about that in the manual. (or it's a BIOS bug).
I have been searching about it, but i haven't found anything.
Anyone had this kind of problem?
EDIT: BIOS upgrade from 1.4 to 1.5 didn't help.

Also what version of SMS are you running? SunMC has an update available for the new SC hardware, USIV uniboards, and newer versions of SMS that change the SunMC addon from the name "12k-15k" to "High-end Systems":
    http://www.sun.com/download/products.xml?id=431df39d
If it looks like there's a mismatch between what SunMC and SMS are reporting, and you're running a newer version of SMS (i.e. 1.5) then you should give that update a try.

  • Experiences with sending SNMP-Traps to 3rd party (Nagios)

    Hello Colleagues,
i'm working on a project where we would like to monitor our databases additionally sending SNMP-Traps to Nagios.
At the moment i'm using net-snmp-utils and snmptt. The snmptt-traphandler is running in daemon-mode and passes incoming SNMP-Traps to Nagtrap.
Now i want to create passive service checks. For example a passive service check for TBS_Usage for database 'exdb' which returns the values from the incoming SNMP-Trap.
Has anyone experiences by implementing the SNMP Notifications (to Nagios)? Is there an easier way to implement this than using snmptt?
Does anyone know, how the MIB (snmptt.conf) must be configured for the passive service check?
I'm looking forward hearing from you soon!
    Best regards,

  • SMC agents on 12K/15K

Looking for some insight on the installation of the domain agents and monitoriing for SMC on the 12K and 15K domains.
Each attempt at installation results in just the non-English locale message files being installed for the monitoring agent and no DR agent installaion. It appears that es-inst does not find the correct information on system type.
We are using SunMC 3.5, update 1.
    Thanks!
    Artie

Are you sure your system is correctly patched? We had similar problems on a SF15k. Especially the DR pack was never recognized to be installable. The problem was that a string compare failed (15000 <-> 15K). Be sure youve download the latest version for the 12/15k! If I remeber it correctly, it should be version 4.

  • Problem using agent-update.bin to roll out SunMC agents

    Greetings,
I want to use agent-update.bin to roll out SUNMC agents to solaris 9 and 10 hosts. I use the es-agentupdate.sh tool to create the installation package and the seed file on the SunMC server in /var/opt/SUNWsymon/agentupdate.
I copy the binary /opt/SUNWsymon/base/bin/agent-update.bin to the root on a test server.
I run the following commands - each fails - unable to find the seed file. Can anyone suggest an -f argument which might work as I need the rollout to occur without user intervention to enter secrets.
    ./agent-update.bin -s oranc1 -r 8080 -p DPI_BasicAgent -f seed-file

  • Acrobat 9.5.1 update on Windows XP Error 1321 solutions don't work

Acrobat 9.5.1 update on Windows XP Error 1321 solutions don't work. I can't uninstall program. Error upon error.

    Hi John,
I'm trying to install the SunMC 3.5.1 Console on
Windows XP with not much success. The install
displays the initial splash screen, but then fails
    with the error :
    The install wizard cannot proceed.
Aborting installation now...First, are you installing from a complete SunMC CD or CD image? If you just copied some files out of a CD/image you may have missed some jar files.
SunMC Consoles don't like to share systems with older versions of themselves. Try moving/renaming the directory your 3.5 Console is installed in (or uninstall it if you don't need it),... then try putting 3.5.1 in again.
All my demos/work/courses are on 3.5.1 on an XP laptop, so I know it works.
I think it's probably just not happy about 3.5 already being installed... so just move it out of the way for awhile to get 3.5.1 in (then put 3.5 back so you can have them both).
    Regards,
    Mike
The Java version is 1.4.2_03 .
The Release Notes etc don't give any clues.
Strangely, SunMC 3.5 works fine on this desktop..
Any ideas as to where I can go from here? This is
effectively stopping me from going from SMC 3.5 to
3.5.1, unless I can get the Console working..
Has anyone else had problems with SMC 3.5.1 on XP?
    Thanks in advance.

  • SunMC Container Manager - Can't get to it

Hi everyone, I have a small problem that is driving me crazy.
    I installed Solaris Management Center 4.0 on a T-5120 running Solaris 10 update 6.
I can log into https://<server>:6789 which is the Java Web Console.
If I try to log into https:// <server>:6789/containers I am brought to the same Web console log in screen
Now: Under Systems I have "Sun Management Center 4.0" so I click that but I see nothing anywhere about containers. I have 3 zones configured on this server of which 1 is running already.
When I click default domain, I am shown my server's global zone name.
When I click that I get host info but no other options.
I am doing all of this as the root user and I have made sure that root is in the Zone management, Pool management, etc.. profiles.
When I run the check on SunMC, it shows container manager as already set up.

    Hi,
when creating the zone you have to fill in the full domain name, not only the host name.
    Is DNS correctly configured?
Can you resolve the virtual host name?
I configured such a zone yesterday without any problems.
In DNS I created a CNAME Resource Record following TID 10020402.

  • SunMC 3.0 and 3.5 - E450 and ultra10 black splat problem

    Hi all,
Don't know if this is the right forum, but if not, then I am sure you will re-direct me.
I have just recently configured up all of our Sun servers, ranging from 3800's Exxx and new SunFire 210's 240's 880's 440's etc. All are now working fine with a little help from the Forum aswell.
My remaining problem is that I have an E450 and an Ultra10 that are showing as having a black splat. I am fully aware that this does not necessarily mean that there are any components in Alarm, but does leave the console looking rather messy and indicitive of a failure to the untrained eye (IT director in particular)
I have tried version 3.0 and 3.5 of the agent, but still the problem persists.
It appears to be with the hardware config reader system section, which does not bring back any information.
The agent log file shows the following messages which seem to point to a missing file.
[00001770 0054 ]warning Oct 25 11:07:51 agent data update error: config

These two systems are the only systems that appear to have the problem through the whole enterprise.
On thinking through the problem we have other E450's (but only 1 U10) and they all seem to be working as expected. The problem common denominator appears to be that both of these servers have been installed using 3.5 BUT their OS versions are 5.6 (BINGO I think). Do you think that I would be better downgrading the version of SUNMC to a pre 3.0 version? Or would the only way around this be to upgrade the OS to 5.8(minimum)
What do you think? Could I be on the right track?????
    Cheers

  • SunMC still trying to contact an object after delete

    Hi Everybody,
we're using Sun MC 3.6.1 and we have a host dans we don't want to monitor anymore. I've deleted the object in the Sun MC console but when we snoop the network interface of the host, we see that SunMC is still trying to contact the host at regular interval on the port 1161 (the port that the agent was) and also for ping requests.
Does anybody have an idea of what's wrong? The hosts object is not present anymore in the console.
    Thanks
    Daniel

    HI Friend,
Try to sign your device out from iTunes Store and iCloud. Then, Sign in again.
It also looks like you turn Restricions on. So, check Settings >> General >> Restricions and turn Restricions off. You probably restrict your phone ( or it restriced by itself) to update/download apps.
    Hope it will be helpfull.

  • Sun Fire V125 - SunMC 3.5.1

    Hello,
I have problems integrating a SunMC 3.5.1 agent on a new V125 server into the managemnt console.
    1) The server itself is not recognized - means I have a folder symbol instead of server symbol
    2) I cannot see any module loaded in the console only the high level entry point like "local application", "hardware" etc...
Is there a way to workaround this other then to update to SunMC 3.6V5?
    Thank you
    Reinhard

    Hi Reinhard,
Glad to hear the problem was somewhat resolved. I am not sure I understand what you mean by the module instances and attributes? Is the Module Manager tab not appearing? What is the problem exactly?
Do you know whether it is possible to install a SunMC server 3.6 and still monitor 3.5 agents?Yes, it is possible.
Feel free to email me directly

    can some help me plz
    thanks...

    Hi,
Just to clarify my situation in regards to what have been said.
I'm running Solaris 10 6/06 with update 2 as seen by output from my system, an old lady that listens to the name 'Enterprise 450'. I just downloaded the 3.6.1 SMC from Sun the other day. I was trying to install it on the very same machine.
I googled around a little and stumbled upon this thread and thought that this may be the same problem. Haven't looked any deeper into this since it is my test system and i felt OK with the answer given.
Anyway, seems a little odd from SUN's part not supporting this on their own system.
What HW are you running and in which config?
    Regards,
    Pierre
