Sunscreen damage to Vision M Screen - can it be repaired?

My son's Vision M was accidentally in the line of spray from one of these new aerosol suncreens. Although he had a silicone case on the unit the actual LCD screen was exposed because he had removed the peel'n'stick protector from the screen when it started to peel up. The result is that the LCD screen now has tiny "dots" and faint drag marks where he wiped the screen. Question >> can these be removed or has the sunscreen done permanent damage to the screen? Visually the screen is fine for playback but there are obvious marks on the screen otherwise. If this can be removed or repaired - please let me know how to do this. I've seen that The Source for Circuit City (CDN version of Circuit City) has a mp3 screen repair kit and wondered it this might work?
Thanks for whatever assistance you can provide us with....

I have a PowerBook G4 17" and need Apple discs to set it up again. Mine lost during move. Screen seems damaged, has vertical lines.  Can anyone help. I can call as I have unlimited calling on my iPhone 6  anywhere in North America.

    king,
If your Powerbook's serial number (do not post it here) starts with "W8" then the vertical lines are mostly likely due to a defect in the display itself. W8 is a factory code and, during the iMac G5 and PowerBook G4 timespan, that factory shipped thousands of units with the same defect. It cannot be fixed via software.
As all PowerBooks are now classed as "obsolete," an Apple Store will not work on it. They will look at it ands tell you it has vertical lines and that they cannot fix it. This Apple article shows Apple devices they curently considered obsolete:
Vintage and obsolete products - Apple Support
It is possible that some Apple Authorized Service Providers (AASP) will still work on older computes but they cannot get neededparts from Apple. As this issue was so pervassive, it wil be hard for you or an AASP to find a used/pulled display that is not effected with the "W8 Curse."
Although I love the old PowerBooks, I would not even spent the money for disks, much less the US$150-400 it would cost to replace the display, even should one be available.
If you give us a rough idea of where you are in the world, we can suggest repair shops specializing in fixing older Mac notebooks, but be aware those resources may be rather scare outside North America.

  • I tried to instal lion but my iMac says "install fail because hard drive is damaged and can't be repaired" and my only option is to restart and it immediately tries to download it again, won't let me back to any other screen.  Is there anything I can do?

I am trying to install Lion and I keep getting a fail message that says "Mac OS X could not be installed because the disk Hard Drive is damaged and can't be repaired". It only gives me the option to restart to try again but fails every time, an no other option.   Is there anything I can do?

I'll guess that you're upgrading from Snow Leopard? You should be able to start using your original install dvd by inserting the disc and restarting while holding the C key. Run Disk Utility from your install disc  and try to repair the drive. Then try the upgrade again.

  • How do I backup to my external hd on 10.6.8 if the disk is damaged and can't be repaired?

Hi! So, I'll get straight to the point. I'm running 10.6.8 on my mac, which is about 5 years old. I attempted to install OSX Mavericks last night, so I could update some of my software. Anyways, the computer restarts and opens up the installer for OSX Mavericks, but after about a minute of installing, it shows that the Mavericks install failed. The upgrade couldn't be started because the disk Macintosh HD is damaged and can't be repaired.
Could someone tell me (step by step) how to back up all of my data, erase the disk, and install again? I have an external HD by the way.
    Help would be much appreciated!

So, essentially you're saying that I need to download one of these programs to my external hd. But, how do I boot it from my mac if I can't get past the installation screen of Mavericks? I'm running on my other mac right now, if that helps. I've tried to use disk utility to repair, but it's greyed out. I honestly just want to retrieve all of my data, wipe the drive, and then install a new one. I just want to know how to do that.

  • Failed install of OSX Mavericks and my iMac is now saying the Macintosh HD is damaged and can't be repaired! Help!

I need help getting my iMac working again.
Last night I tried to install OSX Mavericks, my previous/current OS is 10.6.8
After restarting the Mavericks install screen appears and then stops and give me this error message:
    "Install Failed
OS X could not be installed on your computer.
The OS x upgrade couldn't be started because the disk Mackintosh HD is damaged and can't be repaired. After your computer restarts, back up your data , erase your disk and try installing again.
Click Restart to restart your computer and try installing again."
I tried restarting numerous time but to no avail.
    Please help!

Have you got back to restore from if all else fails?
Try booting from the grey restore disk that came with the Mac: disk in drive and restart holding down the 'c' key. Hopefully it'll boot, albeit slowly. At the first screen select your language and from the menu bar of the next screen choose Utilities>Disk Utility. Select Macintosh HD>Repair Disk. Hopefully DU wil repair the errors. Click on repair disk again until you get a clean pass. Try to restart as normal from the Apple menu.

  • Macintosh HD is damaged and can't be repaired

    Hi,
The other day i decided to purchase and download Mac OS X Lion off from the AppStore for my iMac 21"inch, however after i sucsessfully downloaded the OS it began to Installing, then when it passes 5 minutes of installing the window displays a word saying "Macintosh HD is damaged and can't be repaired" I AM PANICKING, it told me to restart the iMac so i follow the instruction then when i do restart the my iMac the apple logo goes flashing crazy with a some sort of "Your hard disk is screwed" sign. What should i do?! im thinking of re-installing the mac os x snow leopard again. But i dont no im going crazy this is a $1000 or more computer that im dealing here with . PLEASE IF SOMEBODY HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM LETS FIND A SOLUTION TO THIS! :'(

Hei guys thanks for the fast replies and tips, it finally worked! i decided to clean everything up by wiping all of my data which means 'start fresh' and re-install OS X Leopard. yes the OS X Lion works superb on my iMac, guess this is not an HDD failure or 'physic' damage. So much thanks!
NOTE: Oh for those of you who are having this same problem as i do, keep in mind dont panic to much and act crazy with your Apple imac's or macbook's, ease up and do as i say:
when it tells you,  "Macintosh HD is damaged and can't be repaired" do as it say, restart your device, once it is restarted quickly insert your Snow Leopard Installation Disc and it will take you to the 'installation screen' once your there you will see 'utility' up in the bar click that and click disc utility, once there click on your Macintosh HD and click on 'Verify Disc' & 'Repair Disk'. Then finally, restart your device again, If it runs smoothly then re-install OS X Lion off from the App Store (Again, and yes im not joking). If it doesnt run smoothly, re-install your Snow Leopard OS then install OS X Lion from the App Store.
Cheers everybody! Thanks for the fast and very Helpful replies!

  • Mavericks install failed, says disk is damaged and can't be repaired. Help.

My install failed early in the setup process, and said that my HD is damaged and can't be repaired.  It reboots in install mode, I go to disk utility, and can't run repair.  I've tried to boot to safe mode, but the progress bar goes about a third of the way and it just powers off, so no way to get in to backup or do anything on this machine.  My time machine backup is old, but mostly I just have music that I can redownload from iTunes or re-rip from cd, so not worried about data loss.  So do I reformat?  How would I get an OS on there again, since there would be no way to boot up or get an OS Download onto that machine?  This is the first time I miss the old cd/dvd disk distribution.   I'm stumped, any help and guidance is appreciated.  It's a MacBook Pro if that matters.

Have you got back to restore from if all else fails?

  • When installing mountain lion on my computer, why does it say "OSX Mountain Lion couldn't be installed, because the disk \ is damaged and can't be repaired."

I'm unable install mountain lion on my computer. Every time it says "OSX Mountain Lion couldn't be installed, because the disk \ is damaged and can't be repaired. Click restart to restart your computer and try installing again." So I press the only button listed as an option, it restarts, and the same screen comes up again. I can't make mountain lion go away...I've tried many times. What is wrong with my computer? It's stuck like this and I can't even get snow leopard back on there if I wanted to because I can't get away from the same screen. Please help : (

Insert your OS installer disk in the optical drive. Power the Mac down by holding down the power button. Then power back up and hold down the 'c' key so the MBP boots to the installer disk. From Disk Utility you should do a Repair Disk. If DU successfully repairs the disk quit the installer and reboot your Mac. You should update to 10.6.8 prior to upgrading to ML.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Then do your ML upgrade install.

  • Software opens in menu and dock but not on screen, can't use any of it.

I am the administrator and my husband is a user with limited access to system preferences. On Thursday my side of the computer has gone crazy. It worked in the morning. The electric meter was replaced on my house in the afternoon which may have caused a power surge. On Friday when I turned it on I got a message that my time and date was not correct and that some software might act weird because the date was before 2001. I tried opening system preferences to correct the date. It showed open in the menu and in the dock but never opened on the screen so I had no access to it. The hated beach ball spun forever. All of the software I have tried to open does the same thing. They won't force quit. I have to manually turn off the computer and when I turn it back on they have been shut down.
If I log in as my husband, the software all works but I don't have access to my documents. I can't change the clock because he isn't authorized to change most of the preferences. The clock apparently isn't the reason that my software is misbehaving because it is working on his side.
If you can recommend any fixes I will try them if I understand them. I did run disc utility from his side and it said everything is fine. Looking forward to some help so that I can avoid turning it over to a repair shop.
    Sincerely,
    Gail L.

You can probably install it into a working computer as a second drive. Typically that just involves opening the computer, and plugging in a power supply and data connection. Unless you already have two drives in the computer, there should be unused connectors available. You'll recognize them because they should be chained with the connections to the drive that's already there. If you touch anything inside the computer be sure to ground yourself first to avoid the rare possibility of a static discharge which could damage sensitive electronics.
You can also buy a converter to use an internal drive as an external drive. Might be too pricy just to attempt some data recovery, but if the hardware itself is still good you might consider ultimately reformatting the old corrupted drive and using it as extra storage space.
Either of those options would probably preclude the necessity of a target mode boot, since the drive ought to show up and your data be available. Target mode would be a way to access the old computer as if it were an external drive.
Interestingly, the Mac Geniuses claimed they had the same problem as you, that the old computer would freeze when they tried to copy data. I don't know what they were doing, but I had no problems when I used the firewire target mode. In my case, the drive was OK, but the mother board was supposedly bad. Your situation might be different, so what worked great for me may not help in your case.

  • Vision M screen crus

    Hello guys,
Somehow i managaed to crusch my vision M screen, there are cracks all voer etc. Now i've found the way to replace my screen but can't seem to find a fitting screen anywhere. On the Creative site i also couldn't find anything bout the screen and the buyabillity of a loose screen.
I hope someone can help me out with this...

If one want to get dimension or compare different models all from creative can use creative official website where they provide such features. Creative website is not all just discussion but also got specification etc etc... Explore around and you will get what I mean.
I use the website to compare between Zen, Zen Micro, Zen Neeon before deciding. The price are just a guide cuz based on their published prices we can compare with the stores and know roughly how much cheaper we can squeeze with the seller.
For a hands on feel I guess for ppl living outside spore it is too bad you need go to the store cuz sometimes viewing the product on net and viewing it in real life can be different. For me I hands on based on frens who have already owned it.
IMHO, creative should open up more branches just like the finland nokia that open up so many branches where we can go and touch and feel their new products :smileytongue:

Try changing the .ai to .eps or .pdf to see if anything happens to see if it makes a difference to importing or exporting as a pdf?
If you have Indesign, try importing the file into Indesign then saving that file as a pdf or/and export as a Indesign eps file.
