  • How can i change the voltage of my power supply using my pci gpib 488.2 driver?

I need to be able to control the voltage outputed by the power supply. I have a pci gpib 488.2 and I downloaded the correct driver. I also don't no exactly how to use the communicator included in the measurement and automation explorer. When ever I type in the commands I get an error. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it.
    thank you

First see if you can establish communications with the power suppy using Meas and Automation explorer (MAX for short). If you can find your GPIB card in the directory tree choose it and then use the scan for instruments tool. If it can see your power supply it will give you it's address. Choose it and try the Communicate with my instrument tool. It will send a IDN? command to that address and it might return a string if the instrument understands the command. If not you will need to dig through the power supply manual to find the correct commands.

  • HP 3478A DMM not seen with PCI/GPIB 488.2

    Hi All,
I'm really new at this so watch out...  I have an old 3478A which is compliant with the old HP-IB (GPIB) connector and I'm trying to communicate with it using a PCI/GPIB 488.2 card.  I found some drivers for Labview and that's wonderful but it simply doesn't work.  The automation explorer also doesn't see the device.  What am I doing wrong?  I read somewhere that you have to enable some old drivers but I the message was somewhat unclear now I'm just desperate.  Please help someone.
    OS : win XP
    Labview: 7.1
    thanks

It is possible the cable is faulty. The cables I am using are National Instruments 763061-02 RevC; Type-X2. These cables work on all of the instruments I am using. Check the configuration of your GPIB Card, I have provided screen captures of my current settings that are working for me.
    1. As before use the Measurement and Automation Explorer to get to the GPIB Bus under devices.
2.Right click on the GPIB Bus and select properties, you should see the following screen.
    3. Click the Configure and on the next screen click Software>> button to see all of the options.
Try these settings(I have not made any changes these should be Default).

  • PCI-GPIB, 488.2 not working on my G5 OS10.4 with LabVIEW 7.1?

I've followed the intstructions posted this summer from ScottieB for installing NI-488.2 v2.3 on my Mac G5 with OS 10.4.2. (See for example message id=13246). It seems that the driver is now installed correctly, but the NI-488.2 Troubleshooting Wizard fails. The first of three tests passes, i.e., the NI-488.2 Software Presence Verified, but the next one fails. The hardware is not detected apparently. The hardware is a new PCI-GPIB.
ScottieB, or anyone else have any advice?
    Thanks for your time.
    Sean

    Sean,
That's odd...I know you said it's a new card, but could you confirm that it works okay in another machine?  PC or Mac?  (10.3 might be better if you have one of those around so you don't have to go through all the Tiger steps, just load NI-488.2 v2.3 up and it should "just work").  There is the issue of potentially needing a firmware update, but the troubleshooting wizard should alert you to that fact if it is necessary (again, don't run the firmware update on Tiger, bad things happen).
    Let me know.

  • How can I acquire trace data from Agilent(HP)8510c Network Analyser in VB6 using PCI-GPIB and NI-488.2.

I am developing an application in VB6 for measurements with Agilent (HP)8510C network Analyser using NI-488.2 and National Instrument PCI-GPIB card. I want to take data for the whole 51 points. In HPBASIC which used to be employed for this purpose it is done using OUTPDATA command and the data is in a 2-dimensional array. How can I do this in VB6 with the hardware above.

    Hi Kapil:
Please refer to a previous post on the same topic:
    http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=140&message.id=7758#M7758
Although this is for C++, the basic functionality should be the same. Since OUTPDATA is from a specific instrument driver, your best bet will be comparing it to the instrument drivers mentioned in the previous post.

  • SRQ Line no longer works on a PCI-GPIB

I have just upgraded a test pc, (tranfering hardware, reinstalling software etc) and now I have a fault with the PCI-GPIB card.
One of the instruments connected to the PC (HP34401 multimeter) uses the SRQ line to indicate when its ready to download its readings. The LV 5.0 code uses the standard legacy drivers from NI and these drivers use the 'wait for SRQ' function which are now timing out in the new setup.
The rest of the card functionality seems ok, and it tests ok. The LV code and cables are fine, because I can run the system with a USB-GPIB-B device.
Has anybody had the same problem?
Could it be a hardware specific driver problem?
    The current config is:

  • I have problems with pci-gpib card under windows me, What I need to know what to do in order to fix this problems?

Hi, I have installed a pci-gpib card in my computer, I have a problem with
installation, the message of troubleshooting wizard is as follow:
"One or more missing GPIB interfaces.
There are several reasons why you might encounter this problem:
Reason: Your GPIB interface is incorrectly installed.
Solution: Please verify that your GPIB interface is correctly installed
and rerun the NI-488.2 Troubleshooting Wizard.
    Reason: You are using a non-Plug-and-Play interface (e.g., AT-GPIB/TNT,
GPIB-PCII/IIA, GPIB-ENET) and you did not use the Add New Hardware Wizard
to add the interface to your system properly.
    Solution: Click th
e Add Hardware button and the Add GPIB Hardware wizard
will guide you through the process of adding GPIB hardware.
Reason: For the GPIB-USB and GPIB-1394, the host controller (USB or 1394)
must be working properly in order to use the GPIB interface.
Solution: Click on the System Details button for details about the USB and
    1394 host controllers.
Reason: For the PCMCIA-GPIB and PCMCIA-GPIB+, the PCMCIA host controller
must be working properly in order to use the GPIB interface.
Solution: Use the Windows Device Manager to verify that your PCMCIA host
controller is functioning correctly. Start the control panel by selecting
"Start>>Settings>>Control Panel", open the System icon and select the
Device Manager page. If you select "View devices by type", you can look at
the PCMCIA socket properties to ensure it is correctly enabled."
And on system details the message is the next:
"USB Driver type: USB universal host controller"
"This version of windows does not su
    pport IEEE 1394."
I am using Windows Me, so i want to know what i need to do to fix this
    problems.
    Best regards.

If you have a PCI-GPIB card, you needn't worry about the USB port or whether or not Windows ME supports 1394. All you need in NI-488.2 version 1.70 from National Instruments. Install this driver and then insert your card. Windows should detect the card and find the proper driver.
If this did not happen in the proper sequence, look in the device manager and see if the card was installed as an "other device". If this happens, remove the card in the device manager and have windows redetect it. If this is not a solution, you may consider the ask an engineer page at www.ni.com/ask. Provide as many details as possible.

  • Can't add PCI-GPIB board in Windows 2000.

    Installed software:
    NI-DAQ v6.9.2
    NI-488.2 v1.7
    MAX v2.2.0.3010
After physically installing the PCI-GPIB board and booting, Windows 2000 recognized the card and configured it such that it shows up in Device Manager. Device Manager shows "This device is working properly."
However, when I double-click on GPIB in Control Panel I get the message, "No GPIB interfaces present in the system."
If I open MAX and do a refresh the card does not show up. If I right click on "Devices and Interfaces" and click "Create New", select "GPIB Interface", click Finish, select PCI-GPIB, I get "The PCI-GPIB is a plug and play interface and requires no manual hardware configuration for installation. You should now install the interface i
    nto your system."
    What's wrong?

I phoned NI tech support and they said although NI-488.2 v2.0 recommends version 2.6.1 of NI-VISA, it is not required and still should work OK. Also, as of this date, version 2.6.1 has not been released.
The good news: I installed NI-488.2 v2.0 and the card is recognized by NI-MAX now. Installation note for anyone else trying it: I installed the software on a fairly fast 1.3 GHz PC. So after installing the board and booting the PC, the NI Add Hardware Wizard started running before Windows 2000 had completed its installation of the board. The wizard's first attempt failed to find the board. When I clicked "Retry," the wizard found the board and it tested OK.

  • Swapping computers using PCI-GPIB

    Dear Sir/Madam,
I am currently running a 1998 PCI-GPIB card using Labview 6.i on a Windows 2000 machine. I want to transfer this card onto a machine running Labview 7.1 on Windows XP. Your drivers page indicates that this can be done with the NI-488.2 v 2.2 driver.
The Windows 2000 PC has a suite of programs that we may need to fall back on if I fail to develop the applications fast enough on the Windows XP PC. Should we need to, is it possible to plug the card back into the Windows 2000 pc and expect it to work? Or does the driver need to be reinstalled in reinitialise the card.
Thanks as always for your help.
    Paul Donaldson, Imperial College London

    Dear Paul!
Thank you for choosing National Instruments Support!
You can safely use the PCI-GPIB card in the Windows XP system with the 2.2 driver and if it needs to be done, you can plug this card back into the Windows 2000 PC and it should work without you having to reinstall the driver (I am assuming you have driver version 1.7 or 2.2 installed). So please feel free to switch back and forth between the two computers!
    Thanks and Regards

  • GPIB Enet/100 with PCI-GPIB

Is the a timeframe with the release of a GPIB Driver
capable of supporting both the Enet device and an installed GPIB-PCI card within the same computer?

The next version of the 488.2 driver will support the ENET and PCI GPIB cards together for Win 2000/NT/XP. We canot give a release date at this time but it will be on the web when we do.

  • Connecting a HP3497A with a NI PCI GPIB card.

Hello, I would like to be able to connect the above mentioned HP product with a NI PCI GPIB card. As I have no prior experience with this equipment, I wanted to know what basic important steps I would have to take to achieve this?

    Mbugua,
On the hardware end you'll need a GPIB cable to connect the card with your instrument. On the software side, you'll need the NI-488.2 driver. Please follow this link to download the proper driver version for your OS. I highly recommend that you use LabVIEW 7.0 to communicate with the instrument. If you prefer text-based programming LabWindows/CVI 7.0 would be a great choice. You can check out www.ni.com/idnet to download a library of functions to even further ease communication with t
he HP3497A (currently there is a download designed for CVI).
There are a great deal of manuals available online. Please navigate to www.ni.com and choose "support" to search through them as well as our Knowledge Base.
Please follow the following procedure of installation:
    1) Install LabVIEW or LabWindows/CVI (or both)
    2) Install NI-488.2 (hardware driver for the PCI-GPIB)
    3) Insert the PCI-GPIB into your computer

  • Agilent PCI-GPIB not seen

I have an Agilent 82350A PCI-GPIB. The board is visible in the Control panel and it
seems that there is no conflict related to it, but NI-488.2 program does not see the boad, it gives the message that the GPIB board is not detected. I re-installed everything, the board and the program, and it still does not work. I would appreciate some help. Thank you!

The NI in NI-488 stands for National Instruments and not Agilent. The NI-488 functions will only work with an NI board. To use LabVIEW, you will have to use VISA. Install Agilent's version of VISA, make sure that you've got MAX installed and enable Tulip support.

  • PCI-GPIB for Mac firmware downgrade

    Hi everyone.
My question to you is: How can I get back to my old firmware on my pci-gpib controller after updating it?
I just purchased a vintage, late 90's, colorgetter drum scanner that runs off the pci-gpib on a mac. It did not come with a mac so I picked one up for $60. It was loaded with os10.4. With the drivers installed it would crash on boot. The forum said to upgrade firmware. I did. Boot problem solved. However, after the fact, I learned the scanner software only ran on os9.0 and earlier. After loading os9 the software cannot see the scanner. I need to get back to the old firmware that used drivers NI-488-2 ver. 7.6.6.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Matthew B.,
Thanks for replying. The drivers installed were ver. 7.6.6, which came with the original package. I installed the ver. 7.6.7 but with the same results, "scanner not found".
Here is what I know to be true:
The scanner worked fine on os9.0.4 with the original firmware(ver. unknown) on the NI-488.2 PCI-GPIB card, using 488.2 drivers ver. 7.6.6, with the scanner software ColorRight 5.0.1.
As mentioned in my original inquiry, I upgraded the firmware using ver.2.4 and drivers 2.4, now I no longer can see the scanner using ColorRight 5.01, with which I do have the dongle.
Oddly enough, I have a version of ColorRight Pro 2.0 (demo, which means I can use the software but I cannot do a final scan to disk unless I can find a dongle for it) that sees the scanner. The drivers for the Ni488.2 were built into the software.
Because I only have the dongle for ColorRight 5.01 I need to go back to the original firmware.
Any solutions would greatly be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Don

  • PCI-GPIB under WIN98 DOS

I have installed a PCI-GPIB board in a Dell computer. I can communcite withmy CDS rack from the DOS version of the "Interactive Control", IBIC. In my qb4.5 DOS program, I can find GPIB0 without any errors. However, the data returned in the second parameter for ibfind does not appear to be correct. When I try to clear the RQS, I get a 10 second timeout. It appears that I can not communicate with my devices. NI-488.2 for DOS is enabled. Thanks for any help you can give me.
    Gaylon Patton

By saying that you are using the DOS version of "Interactive Control", do you mean that you are working in the DOS operating system? The PCI-GPIB board cannot be used in the DOS operating system. Enabling DOS Support allows you to run DOS programs in the Windows MSDOS prompt. If you need to work in the DOS operating system, you can use the AT-GPIB/TNT board with driver version 2.7.2.
