SUNWCuser on global zone, SUNWCreq on non-global zone

Hello,
is there anybody out there who knows how i can install a zone with different Software Cluster.
By default, when my global-zone is installed with SUNWCuser (Recommended by SUN), my new zone is created with SUNWCuser too.
But I want to install only SUNWCreq with additional Packages on my zone.
Thank you very much for your Reply

Well, you could install it as a full root zone. Bu that wastes a lot of disk space.
Alternatively, you can get most of the hardening advantages by simply not running the services that would not be installed in SUNWCreq.
You should be running a pruning your set of services anyway even in SUNWCreq.
But admittedly, you have to be more active in hunting down and turning off services.

  • How to know Global zone name within Non-Global zone?

    Hi everybody.
My answer is very simple: How can I (command or file) to know Global zone name within Non-Global zone? zoneadm command with all its options dont work fine to me for this information. Thanks a lot for any idea with my question. Regards.

Hi. Global Zones name is unknow for me from Non-Global zone. I dont know it, but "Global" isnt name neither hostname, is just Solaris 10 OS in my machine. However, your link was useful for me.
    Thanks a lot.

  • After installing 137137-09 patch OK in global zone, bad in non global zone

    Hi all,
scratching my head with this one.
Installed 137137-09 fine on Sun Fire V210. Machine has one non global zone running a proxy server (nothing very exciting there!). non global zone has a local filesystem attached, but don't think this is the issue (on my test V210 I created the same sort of filesystem and was unable to replicate the problem :( ).
So 137137-09 is fine in the global zone (I had the non global zone halted when patch installed) it is also installed in the non global zone (ie, when zone boots it says it's at rev 137137-09 via uname) in the patch log in the non global zone I get this:
    PKG=SUNWust2.v
    Original package not installed.
pkgadd: ERROR: ERROR: unable to get zone brand: zonecfg_get_brand: No such zone configured
This appears to be an attempt to install the same architecture and
version of a package which is already installed. This installation
will attempt to overwrite this package.
    /usr/local/zones/cotchin/lu/dev/.SUNW_patches_1000109009-1847556-000000d3e42faa84/137137-09/FJSVcpcu/install/checkinstall: /usr/local/zones/cotchin/lu/dev/.SUNW_patches_1000109009-1847556-000000d3e42faa84/137137-09/FJSVcpcu/install/checkinstall: cannot open
pkgadd: ERROR: checkinstall script did not complete successfully
    Dryrun complete.
No changes were made to the system.
I'm not sure if the branding error is causing the checkinstall postpatch script error or if they are not related. There doesn't seem to be any obvious permissions problems that I can find. I have checked that all the pkg and patch patches are up to date on the system. Searching on the brand error gives me a link to a problem with 127127-11, but that was installed on the system before the local zone was created and all the other seemingly appropriate patches (eg: 119254) are all up to date or at a higher revision than recommended.
I see the same problem on a M5000 which has two non global zones on it.
Both machines had the Solaris 10 50/08 update bundle applied when it came out,a nd have had recommended patch sets applied at regular intervals since.
This issue only came to light when trying the latest bundles with 138888-01/02 in it, and those fail to install on the global zones because the non global zone install dies claiming 137137-09 is not installed (which is plainly wrong).
I've tried to recreate this on a test server but unfortunately everything works as it should, even though the test server has a similar history in terms of patches and original setup to the others.
I'm planning to try to detatch the non global zone and try an attach -u to see if it will update the patches properly, but I'm not holding out much hope on that one (I need to wait for a mainteiance window when I can take the zone down in a couple of days).
    Any ideas?

Well, I am following up to my own post it seems I have determined what is causing the problem, or at least situations where the problem can be reproduced which I have been able to do on my test system.
It seems that if the zone container's zonepath is in /usr (eg: /usr/zones, /usr/local/zones, or some other path under /usr) the patchadd of 137137-09 will fail with the log similar to posted above, and this will stop further kernel patches (eg: 138888-02) being added.
The test system had everything patched to current and searching the web I can't find any other instances of this being an issue, but I have reproduced this problem on my test machine (which worked OK because it's test zones were in a filesystem mounted as /zones). When I used zoneadd -z <zonename> move to a zone in /usr/local and applied 137137-09 the same problem came up.
Not sure what is causing this issue.. I imagine it might have to do with some sort of confusion with the patch utilities and the read-only loopback filesystems in the sparse root zone but I can't bs sure.
Maybe someone at sun will see this and figure out what the deal is :)
When I moved my test zone back to /zones the patch applied perfectly so it's definitely having it in /usr or /usr/local (I tried both locations, even though they are seperate ufs filesystems on my test server).
Oh I am running DiskSuite to mirror filesystems on my V210's which may or may not have anything to do with it.
Hope this helps someone in the future at least!

  • How to know global zone in case non global zone is hung

    ....I have nongloabazone1,nongloabazone1,nongloabazone2,nongloabazone3...
    i am working on nongloabazone1 ..
suppose i am giving remote support ...
if my nongloabazone1 is hung ..i need to know the global zone on which this nongloabazone1 is installed and reboot from there ...if my nongloabazone1 is hung i cannot apply #arp -a and check it out by trial and error method and know the global zone....
in this case how can i reboot the nongloabazone1 .....i have the same question in case of Ldoms also..............
    Thanks in Advance.......

    Hi.
It's not clear what means "non global zone is hung".
In case it realy hangs you can't do anythins in this zone.
    1) In case you have access to global zone. You can get list all zones running on this host:
    zoneadm list -cv
For reboot local zone from global zone just need: zoneadm -z <zone_name> reboot
    2) Zones not support live migration. So after zone started it can not change global zone.
Create script that put global zone name in file. When need - just read content of this file.
This file can be created from global zone when start (or create/move) local zone.
In case zone migration is not quickly operation, just create file (or database) for list what zone started on which host.
For LDOM it look wery same.
    Regards.

  • How to share Global zone CPUs to non global zones

Okay we have a server with 8 CPU`s and 32Gig RAM running Solaris 10 11/06 release.
We have 2 full zones setup in addition to the default global zone. Each of these 2 zones has 3 CPU`s assigned to it leaving 2 CPU`s only used by the gloabl zone so if we were to loose one we would not loose the zones etc.
Now is it possible under Solaris 10 11/06 release to have the 2 non gobal zones have the 3 dedicated CPU`s each and also share 1 CPU each from the 2 CPU`s used by the global zone? All the documentaion I have seen and read does not make this clear but I have read that the new Solaris 10 08/07 release have several new zone commands available?
I know there is FSS but I do not think that can do what we want.
Has anyone done anything like this or able to offer any help.

Yes, there are new features in 08/07 you should consider useful in your configuration. Especially the possibility to restrict physical and virtual memory are important to everyone cause a bad process in zone can consume all the memory of the system, leaving all the zones unusable.
But when it comes to your problem, there is no real help, cause you cannot split cpus, only a much simplified configuration.
A pset still cannot share a cpu with another pset.
    What you can do:
You can however make use of the dynamic resource manager in Solaris 10. He can dynamically bind a cpu to either zones on the fly if they need one.
pset.poold.objectives "utilization > 30; utilization < 80;" for eg means if the pset and its cpus is used more the 80% for some time, the a free unbound cpu will be added to the pset on the fly.
    Read: http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817-1592/rmconfig-3?l=en&a=view
In Solaris 07/08 this is easy to configure:
    freom [zones-discuss] http://mail.opensolaris.org/pipermail/zones-discuss/2006-August/005105.html
    {color:#3366ff}_Dedicated CPUs_
Many existing resource management features have a new, simplified user
    interface. For example,
    "<a href="http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817-1592/6mhahuooo?l=en&a=view#gepsd">dedicated-cpus</a>"
    re-use the existing
    Dynamic
Resource Pools features. But instead of needing many
commands to configure them, configuration can be as simple as:
    global# zonecfg -z myzone
    zonecfg:myzone> add dedicated-cpu
    zonecfg:myzone:dedicated-cpu> set ncpus=1-3
    zonecfg:myzone:dedicated-cpu> end
    zonecfg:myzone> exit
After using that command, when that Container boots, Solaris:
{color}<ol><li>{color:#3366ff}removes a CPU from the default pool
         {color}</li>
<li>{color:#3366ff}assigns that CPU to a newly created temporary pool
         {color}</li>
<li>{color:#3366ff}associates that Container with that pool, i.e. only schedules
that Container's processes on that CPU
         {color}</li>
    </ol>
    {color:#3366ff}
Further, if the load on that CPU
exceeds a default threshold and another CPU can be moved from another
pool, Solaris will do that, up to the maximum configured amount of three CPUs.
Finally, when the Container is stopped, the temporary pool is destroyed
and its CPU(s) are placed back in the default pool.

    Hope this helps,{color}

  • NFS and non global zones

    Hi,
Ive read numerous threads about mounting NFS shares to non global zones but have still not been able to successfully resolve my issue.
I have 5 T3-2's which are being used as standalone SAP servers running Solaris 10u9 and numerous sparse non global zones. Basically I have a 1Tb HDS LUN presented to 1 T3-2 and have NFS shared this out as /stage to the remaining 4 global zones which works as expected.
However I am unable to mount the shared NFS filesystem to the non global zones.
When I try to mount the NFS share from the non global zone itself I receive RPC errors, I have also tried configuring the non global zone with the NFS mount (from the global zone) as lofs but the zone wont boot and also manually mounting the NFS mount from the global zone which looks like it works but when I do a df on the non global zone I receive stat erros.
Ive even tried linking the NFS share on the global zone to the non global zone directory but that produces a strange linkage when the zone is booted.
Numerous threads say this is not supported but I cant believe Oracle after ~6/7 years of zones and numerous threads on the subject wouldnt have resolved this issue.
I could easily locally mount the storage locally and lofs it to the non global zone but unfortunately dont have the storage capacity available which is why I thought NFS mounting to the non global zone would work!!
Any suggestions would be gratefully received!
    Thanks.

If you are trying to mount NFS file system on non-global zone from global zone of the same server, use lofs instead.
You can mount the same file system to all non-global zones using lofs and all non-global zones have read/write access to it.
If it is global zone of some other server then you can use NFS. But before that check the way it is exported on NFS server whether the client from which you are trying to mount it has permissions to do so.

  • Route between global and non-global zones

    Hi Folks,
I haven't been able to find an answer to this question searching the archives, so I'll try here. My global zone gets her IP (10.153.197.n) via DHCP, and I've had to use 192.168.1.n addresses for the non global zones. Is there a simple route statement I can issue to allow communication between the global and non global zones? I'm running Solaris 10 x86 03/2005.
    Thanks very much,
    -Adam vonNieda

If you're only interested in passing traffic between the global zone and the non-global zones, just add a virtual interface to the global zone.
For example, in the global zone:
    ifconfig ce0:4 plumb 192.168.1.x netmask + broadcast + up
Then you will be able to pass traffic between the global and non-global zones.
If you're looking for the global zone to proxy traffic between the non-global zones and the rest of the network, take a look at http://balance.sf.net

  • Running commands across global and non-global zones

Other than using ssh and public key access, is there better way to run a command in both the global and non-global zone? I need to disable some services (svcadm disable ... ) in both the global and non-global zones.
    Thanks,
    Roger S.

You can run commands in the non-global zone with the "zlogin" command from the global zone.
Running commands in a non-global zone from a non global zone works only with ssh, (or any other method using network)

  • Solaris10 missing /usr/openwin directories in non-global container

I created a global (default) and two non-global containers. The /usr/openwin directories in non-global containers are empty (while global one's are fine). Since /usr is read only in non-global containers, I can't add anything to it.
    questions:
    1. why is the /usr/openwin directories is empty in non-global containers, did I miss some steps in creating containers?
    2. How do I make /usr/openwin visible now to the non-global containers?
    appreciate your help.

What you observed is normal. The basic Solaris 11 zone install gives you a somewhat minimal install. If you want additional packages, you can install them. If you want the zone install to have what you would install from a CD I suppose you could do a the following:
    pkg install slim_install
    pkg uninstall slim_install
My understanding is that the slim_install package contains dependencies which loads all of the desktop software but doesn't contain any content itself - which is why you can (and should) remove it afterwards.
That said, normally one uses a zone for a particular purpose. A better approach might be to install only the software in the zone which is needed for that purpose. That would save space, limit security exposure and reduce maintenance overhead. If your purpose is to have a full user environment, that may be to include all the slim_install packages and maybe others as well.
I would recommend that you not install services by copying files. If you need a service find out what package contains that service and install the package in the zone. That way you won't break maintenance via pkg update.
    So - your questions:
    1. A Solaris 11 zone install is minimal, presumably to make it easy to set up simple single function zones. Additional packages can be added as needed using "pkg install" as needed to provide any necessary services.
    2. Solaris 10 zones work differently and import most packages from the global zone. With Solaris 10 sparse zones, you actually use the same files from the global zone. Solaris 11 zones are different in that they are actually a separate install. The basic install is minimal, presumably to allow for small and simple single function zones. You are not doing anything wrong with respect to the basic install, this is just how things work.

  • Livecycle not publishing pdf with global/non global error

    Hi there,
I'm new to LiveCycle, and I hope someone can help me at least diagnose my problem.
For several days I've have successfully been building a standard form, including many text entry boxes which are repeated throughout the document - as an example, I have a box for the person's name, which is then repeated thbroughout the document as a neader name on a master page.
I have set each and every field to global, so that I can utilise this.
The latest thing I did was attempt to build a table that has a button on one row allowing the user to add another row to the table. I tired to publish this (create a dymamic pdf), but I got the following error when opening the pdf:
    1. Dialogue box with: can't be defined as global field and a non-global field - okay button
    2. Dialogue box again with: can't be defined as global field and a non-global field - okay button
followed by the page in acrobat reader with:
    Please wait...
If this message is not eventually replaced by the proper contents of the document, your PDF
viewer may not be able to display this type of document.
You can upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader for Windows®, Mac, or Linux® by
    visiting http://www.adobe.com/go/reader_download.
For more assistance with Adobe Reader visit http://www.adobe.com/go/acrreader
so, thinking it was something I'd done wrong specifically with the previous table I removed it... only to find that the problem still persists.
Can anyone at least start me off here as the previous version is a long way down the chain
    Thanks,
    Sunil

In the end I gave up and manually added each section of my form bit by bit from a back -up. I found the offending table - however, even when deleting it from the file that didn't work it would still bring up the aforementioned error.
    Anyway, it's back working again.

  • We can able to add package and patch in Non-Golbel zone?

    Hi Sun Gurus,
We have V890 server and it's configered zones. We are facing problem with package and Patch adding in Non-Golbel zone.
I want to confirm whether we can able to add package and patch in Non-Golbel zone?
    Thanks in advance
    Raja

If their sparse root zones, then you have to install the package and patch in the global zone. The non global zones will all pick them up automatically.
If you need to be able to install packages in only specific zones then you need to make them whole root zones.

  • Add tape device to non-global zone

    Hi,
I have a SCSI attached Ultrium tape device attached and configured against the global zone.
The /dev/rmt/0* definitions in the global zone are links to ../../devices/pci@2*
I need to be able to use this tape device from the non-global zones.
To enable this, I have done the following:
    zonecfg -z <zone name>
    add device
    set match=/dev/rmt/0
    end
    verify
    commit
    exit
I repeated the above for /dev/rmt/0m and /dev/rmt/0mn
Then I restarted the zone with the command:
    zoneadm -z <zone name> reboot
After the reboot, I can see the device when using "mt -f /dev/rmt/0 status", but whenever I try to write a SAP brbackup to the new (initialised and not write protected) tape within the drive I get the following error:
    BR0278E Command output of 'LANG=C cd /oracle/<SID>/sapbackup && /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe/run/brtools -f detach LANG=C cpio -iuvB .tape
    sh: /dev/rmt/0mn: cannot open
    BR0280I BRBACKUP time stamp: 2012-04-04 08.21.41
    BR0279E Return code from 'LANG=C cd /oracle/<SID>/sapbackup && /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe/run/brtools -f detach LANG=C cpio -iuvB .tape.
BR0359E Restore of /oracle/<SID>/sapbackup/.tape.hdr0 from /dev/rmt/0mn failed due to previous errors
Have I created the device incorrectly, or does anyone have any ideas what could be the reason the write fails?
    Any help appreciated.

    Hi,
Just to bring you up to speed, I have now fixed the issue.
The resolution was all within the iniSID.sap file that the backup is using. I have changed a number of parameters within this file:
    1.     tape_copy_cmd = dd (was cpio)
    2.     rewind = "mt     -f $ rew; sleep 30" (was " mt -f $ rew")
    3.     rewind_offline = "mt -f $ offline; sleep 30" (was "mt -f $ offline")
    4.     tape_pos_cmd = "mt -f $ fsf $: sleep 30" (was "mt -f $ fsf $")
    5.     tape_size = 500G (was 18000M)
After making those changes, the backup started from within DB13. I believe that the main culprit was the tape_copy_cmd, but the others were changed to allow the tape drive time to become online again after any query.

  • PHP in Solaris 10 and Non-Global Zones: Problem of performance?

    Hi friends
We are feeling a poor performance with applications developed with PHP in Solaris 10, with non-global and global zones, while Intel platform (Xeon and Pentium), performance is very good. Difference between both platforms is about 200% aprox, one second in Intel to 9, 12 or 20 seconds in Solaris depending of model.
    Our tests were developed in:
    1. SF T2000 server Solaris 10 global zone

I presume you compiled php on the Sun server, was this done using gcc or the Sun One C compiler.
If the latter then you can also use the flag: --enable-nonportable-atomics when you run configure

  • Non-Global Zones - how can I tell what the Global Zone is

    Hi,
I have a host that I know is a non-global zone (ngz). I can ssh to the ngz as root or a non-privileged user.
But once there how do I know what the host name for the global zone is?
I could probably run a script from all global zones to report all running zones and so I'd know that way but I have a specific need to know from inside the ngz.
    Thanks!
    Brian

That's a built-in security feature; and I know of no way to circumvent this mechanism.
I had some hope that there was a way to 'see' at least the global-zone information from the zone. From the shell the 'zone' commands are available ..
    :# zoneadm list -cv
    ID NAME             STATUS         PATH
48 hostname_svn   running        /  So it's at least aware that it is a zone, even if it can't tell me anything else about itself. I can still go the long way around to get the information for my need, thanks.
The global zone is the only thing that can see everything. The non-global zones can only see information specific to their zone.
This is by design and it really is a security mechanism. You don't want the zones running outside of their boundaries and information about the global zone (or any other zone) is outside the boundaries of a non-global zone.
    Cheers,
