SUNWinst package for Solaris 8

Hi,
I am working on flar images and i have to get a flar image from existing solaris 8 system. But flar has not been included to the system installation when it installed. I have tired to install flar with pkgadd command from SUNWinst package which is under /var/sadm/pkg but this package doesn't contain any lib or binary like flarcreate. Then I searched SUNWinst on web but i couldn't find it. Another trouble, " I have no installation DVD for sol8". I am downloading sol8's iso now. But just in case, where can I get SUNWinst full package?
One more question:
Can solaris10.flar image be used on solaris 10 again? I mean, I have a flar image which contains sol10 OS and I wanted to use it as zone on other sol10 system. Can I do that?
*1st system*
uname -a
SunOS mach1 5.8 Generic_108528-03 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-250
*2nd system*
uname -a
SunOS mach2 5.10 Generic_139555-08 sun4v sparc SUNW,T5440

Here is solaris8.flar download link :

Hope someone knows the answer of my other question.

Creator is now integrated into NetBeans. Download the Java + EE
distribution of the NetBeans 6.1 release from netbeans.org.
When you create a project, you will be led through a series of panels,
where the last is Frameworks. Select the "Visual Web JavaServer Faces"
framework. You will be familiar with the rest, and of course it will

  • Need package for Solaris 10 with extension .pkg after bunzip/tax -x

did steps to unzip firefox-30.0.en-US.solaris-10-fcs-i386.tar.bz2. the folder is not a package to Solaris, when trying to run

  • Best source of binary packages for Solaris 10

Which is the best source, Sun's companion CD, www.sunfreeware.com, www.opencsw.org, www.blastwave.org, or others?
    Thanks,

Depends on your needs. Ie what criterion you use to decide "best".
blastwave and opencsw are more "modern" complete repositories.
They come with a "pkg-get" system for recursively fetching a package and all its depencies.
But they have a slightly higher startup cost as you have to install the pkg-get framework. Not that its hard.
You can't just download a package off the website and install it.
These days blastwave has made a cut with the past and only supports solaris 10/opensolaris.
opencsw is a fork that still supports solaris 8+.
the sun cd is a old snapshot of a small subset of whats on sunfreeware.
So if you just want one simple package. Grab it off sunfreeware.
If you want something more complex. eg a bunch of packages or a package with complex dependencies, its worth making the effort to get it off blastwave. Unless your running solaris 8/9. In which case use opencsw.

  • PCNFSD for Solaris 9 and 10

Does anyone know where I can get the PCNFSD package for Solaris 9 and 10 for both sparc and x86?

I don't know if pc.nfsd is still available, but there are two better solutions available:
    1) Samba
    2) The windows services for UNIX which includes an NFS client for Windows..

Besides the actual dtrace executable, thousands of probes were placed into the kernel. Backporting that to earlier systems would be very expensive. It's not going to happen.

For process (and some library) tracing you have 'truss'. For some I/O visibility you have kernel tracing with prex/tnfdump/tnfextract. None of those have similar power to dtrace.

  • OpenSSH 4.4p1 packages with PAM support for Solaris 9, 10

As mentioned in a previous post* , I've compiled OpenSSH packages with PAM support for Solaris 9 and 10. They've since been updated to version 4.4p1, and are compiled against a static zlib (1.2.3) and OpenSSL (0.9.8c). You can find them here:

Yes, zlib 1.2.3 is a requirement. In facts, zlib mentions a 2005 vulnerability fix but I found no matching patch in sunsolve. See
    http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/JGEI-6E7RC3
I have been wandering whether to replace the official zlib. Linking statically is probably a better idea. Thanks

  • Patches for Solaris 9 with incompatible Packages

I have a Sun Sparc machine with Solaris 9 on it as oracle server. We added two patches (112233-11: SunOS 5.9:Kernel Patch and 111722-04: SunOS 5.9:MathLibrary(libm)patch). When I prepared the server for Oracle installation, I checked patch with command: $/usr/sbin/patchadd -p | grep <patch_number>. Then UNIX told me that these two patches have incompatible packages. 112233 got 12 incompatible packages and 111722 got 3 incompatible patches. My question is: does this incompatible packages affect Solaris 9 operation on the Sparc machine? How serious will it be? Thanks.

The syntax of ldapclient changed in Solaris 9 (at least by 9 12/03). You now specify it like this:
    # ldapclient -v init -a profileName=cn=myProfile,ou=profile,dc=example,dc=comIf you're using Proxy Authentication add the following:
-a proxyDN=cn=proxyagent,ou=profile,dc=example,dc=com -a proxyPassword=ClearTextPWYou should have been able to create a profile (storing it in the DIT) when you ran idsconfig. If you took the default name of "default" (cn=default,ou=profile,dc=example,dc=com) you might not even have to specify the profile name to ldapclient.
To generate a new profile and store it in the DIT use:
$ ldapclient -vgenprofile -a profileName=cn=myProfile,ou=profile,dc=example,dc=com -a defaultSearchBase=dc=example,dc=com ...With your various attributes for your profile as specified in ldapclient(1M).
As for pam, you have to decide which you're going to use: pam_unix or pam_ldap. Note that the Solaris pam_ldap is very different from the PADL pam_ldap used under Linux and elsewhere (this makes it easy to find apparently conflicting advice).

  • SVR packages for jvm/jre on solaris ?

It seems starting with jdk1.6.0_12 there are no SVR packages on the download pages for Solaris? Is SVR packaging no longer being done? This would really hurt as SVR packaging handles multizone installation support for packages on Solaris10. A .sh only distro would require admins to install the jdk in each zone which can really become a maintenance problem!
    Thanks
    - Phillip

    Hey, thanks for the reply.
I am still looking for a solution to this problem. You are right in that all Solaris boxes have Java installed, it is just that most of them have version 1.1.7 which is useless to me.
Do you know of a command interpreter on Linux that would allow me to run the Unix shell script? That might be a away to unpack the files and get at them.
As for a separate JRE install: What if a user did not have root access? Then, they would not be able to install and use my program. Thus my desire to package it all into one tidy download.
I would have thought that Sun would have thought of something like this. It would seem to me that it is to their advantage to make versions of these JRE's available -- More apps to support their OS.

  • Help with evaluation for Solaris x86

    Hello,
I would like to evaluate Oracle Identity Manager and Access Manager products at the latest version possible -- the host system(s) are Solaris x86 (SunOS .5.10) Unfortunately, I am having a bit of trouble compiling the list of packages/versions to achieve this for this platform. For instance, on the downloads page it appears that OIM is not available for Solaris x86, not even in older versions(?)
    Thank you in advance,
    Scott

    Hi Scott,
I'm pretty sure that x86 Solaris is not yet certified to run the Identity Management suite. I've been involved in an evaluation process and we ran it all on RedHat Enterprise Server Release 4 Update 5, without too many problems.
    cheers,

  • JRE 6.0 update 1 for Solaris 10 sparc 64 bit

Will jre 6.0 come out as a patch for Solaris 10 sparc? Or should I install it from the Java download site (http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp)? I currently have jre 5.0.11 (patches 118666-11 and 118667-11).
    Thanks.....

Will jre 6.0 come out as a patch for Solaris 10
sparc? Or should I install it from the Java download
    site (http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp)? I
currently have jre 5.0.11 (patches 118666-11 and
118667-11).Yes, it's out for 6u1, or should be out by now, as sparc (125136-01 & 125137-01)
    and x86 (125138-01 & 125139-01).
You cannot patch your way from 5.0 to 6. You need to install the 6 packages, and then you can install the 6u1 patch. (or you could just install the 6u1 packages, and patch from that point onward).
As to the later question, yes, there isn't a formal JRE patch, but SUNWj6rt is essentially the runtime component of the JDK, so if you just had SUNWj6rt & SUNWj6cfg installed, you would have the equivalent of a JRE, though it still would be installed in a JDK directory. If you have just those two packages installed, then you could use 125136-01 as a JRE patch, since it will only update what installed. Oh yes, I forgot about the 64bit component to the runtime, SUNWj6rtx. If you intend on running the JRE in 64bit mode (-d64), you'd need SUNWj6rtx as well.

  • Sunwj3rtx JDK 1.4.2 64 bit for Solaris 10 Container

    Hi,
does anybody know where I ca get the sunwj3rtx and similar other Solaris 10 packages for the x86 / 64 bit platform. I need the EOL Java 1.4 because I want to install a SAP application and these applications accept only the jdk 1.4.2. Maybe there is a 64bit installer version, which would be fine too. The downloadable version from java.sun.com is only 32bit which doesnt work.
    Any hints are welcome.
    Regards
    Martin

    Hi Richard,
I found the link after reading the install guide of SAP more exactly. There are several SAP hint numbers and in one of them there was the information about the jdk link.
In our company we already had so many problems because SAP didn't upgrade to the actual jdk. Keep in mind that the jdk 1.4 is already out of livetime for time. Next year the jdk 5 will go out of livetime and the actual jdk 6 is going to be replaced by the new jdk 7.
I guess SAP doesn't work with test suites so that they easily can switch to a new jdk release. With a test suite they could see all failures coming up after the jdk switch, and they should be easily fixable, if there are any.
Many software frameworks doesn't support older jdk's anymore, at least those which are out of lifetime. Therefore I wrote some kind of wrapper on the java stack in the NW4s so that I can use jdk6 inside the java stack. It's a bit tricky and not yet for general public use but for my own needs it is a work around this jdk 1.4 problem.
So coming back to your jdk question: I installed jdk 1.4 in my solaris 10 container as an addition. In the newest Solaris version there is already jdk 6 included, which I use for all non sap applications.
    Good luck with your nw4s.
    Cheers
    Martin
