Sunwj3rtx JDK 1.4.2 64 bit for Solaris 10 Container

Hi,
does anybody know where I ca get the sunwj3rtx and similar other Solaris 10 packages for the x86 / 64 bit platform. I need the EOL Java 1.4 because I want to install a SAP application and these applications accept only the jdk 1.4.2. Maybe there is a 64bit installer version, which would be fine too. The downloadable version from java.sun.com is only 32bit which doesnt work.
Any hints are welcome.
Regards
Martin

Hi Richard,
I found the link after reading the install guide of SAP more exactly. There are several SAP hint numbers and in one of them there was the information about the jdk link.
In our company we already had so many problems because SAP didn't upgrade to the actual jdk. Keep in mind that the jdk 1.4 is already out of livetime for time. Next year the jdk 5 will go out of livetime and the actual jdk 6 is going to be replaced by the new jdk 7.
I guess SAP doesn't work with test suites so that they easily can switch to a new jdk release. With a test suite they could see all failures coming up after the jdk switch, and they should be easily fixable, if there are any.
Many software frameworks doesn't support older jdk's anymore, at least those which are out of lifetime. Therefore I wrote some kind of wrapper on the java stack in the NW4s so that I can use jdk6 inside the java stack. It's a bit tricky and not yet for general public use but for my own needs it is a work around this jdk 1.4 problem.
So coming back to your jdk question: I installed jdk 1.4 in my solaris 10 container as an addition. In the newest Solaris version there is already jdk 6 included, which I use for all non sap applications.
Good luck with your nw4s.
Cheers
Martin

Thanks Henrik. My question is for the same customer that Alex K. was asking about.
The customer has pointed out that 6.5 != 6.0 , so according to the wording in the documentation, the "all later releases of 6.0" would not apply to 6.5 releases. So the customer would need a precise statement from JRockit product management stating that 6.5 releases are indeed to be included wherever there is a reference to "all later releases of 6.0".
I did spend some time yesterday in MetaLink. Search Knowledge base -> Oracle JRockit for download gives 38 hits. I did find older versions of WebLogic Server in 763603.1, but nothing for JRockit. If there is another DocId with the JRockit downloads, what is it? Will I find JRockit 64 bit for Solaris 27.6.0 bundled in the WebLogic Server downloads? Guessing from the size of the downloads for Solaris 64bit (they are hundreds of MB smaller than other downloads) - it seems possible that the JVM is not included (I do not have a Solaris machine to install and check). Previously I had assumed the JVM was included, but then the customer wouldn't be asking where they can download from (unless they never bother to look what they installed).

  • Oracle 9,2.0 32 bit for Solaris can not access more than 4GB?

I am sorry to ask rather stupid question.
I joined company which has big SUN Fire running Solaris 9 64bit version.
It has system memory 16GB and 8 CPUs.
I found 8GB memory reported as free. It is production box. It is heavy loaded.
I guess Kernel parameter settings for Oracle set too low.
I reported DBA and asked DBA to improve.
My DBA said Oracle 32 bit version was installed and Oracle 32bit can't access more than 4GB system memory.
Is it true that Oracle 9.2.0 32bit for Solaris can not access more than 4GB memory?
32bit CPU and 32bit OS might have problem in access big memory.
But I never heard Oracle 9 running on 64bit Solaris box can not access more than 4GB.
Specially on Sparc 64bit chip and Solaris 9 64bit version.
I searched forums and could not find good answer. I believe it is rather obvious.
Please help me on this. I will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

I was really surprised by the fact that almighty
ORACLE can not access 4GB memory.
So, it is true that 32bit Oracle is limited by 4GB RAM.Nope. 32bit almighty anything is limited to (max) 2^32 virtual adresses on a vmm system.
Often there is also some split where memory is divided into system and user areas, where user (program) has e.g. 2 or 3GB. All this works regardless of amount of RAM available 0.5 or 512GB.

Hi Alex, we are also using tuxedo 32-bit on Solaris 64-bit operating
    system. There
is no problem doing this as your solaris version supports both 32 bit
    and 64 bit
programs. The things to watch out for are when you are building a tuxedo
    application,
you have to make sure that all the libraries you link with are also 32
    bit libraries,
including oracle. We ran into build problems when some libraries were
    32 bit
    and others were 64 bit.
There's good information about 32bit v 64bit on solaris at the following
    web site...
    http://docs.sun.com/?p=/doc/806-6543/6jffrdmee&a=view
I personally would use 64bit if possible, but it's no big deal to build
    32 bit
applications because my tuxedo application does not need a 64bit address
    space
and is not computationally heavy. Most of the CPU takes place in the
    database,
which in our case is Oracle, and which happens to be 64bit anyway. So
    it's not
a bad thing to build a 32 bit tuxedo application that runs on a 64 bit
    operating
system, for most types of tuxedo applications.

Then Tuxedo 8.0 32.bit ruuning on Solaris 8 64-bit. OK
there is support from Bea . Is that is correct ???

If the platform list shows that a 32-bit build is certified on a 64bit
OS, then you can run it there.
If you want an actual 64 bit build, it is because you want the big
address space, longer longs in FML, and everything else you get from
    64
    bits.
If you want to have an application span Solaris and Digital UNIX, which
is always 64 bit, you might want both to be 64 bits so that you do
    not
lose any data in the conversion.
On HP, you can't link 32-bit Tuxedo with another product that is 64-bit
(Oracle for example). You might need a 64 bit Tuxedo in order to work
    with other products.

  • 64-bit WLS 11G for Solaris?

I can not locate the 64-bit version of WLS 11G for Solaris. When I go to the download page all I see are 32-bit versions (at least they look like 32-bit version as denoted by the filenames such as wls1031_solaris32.bin).
I have attempted to go through the e-delivery site but do not want to download a 21 part 11Gig file if it is not the correct one.
I would appreciate any help at all.

I am pretty confident that you need the 64 bit JVM for your platform, then you need to use the generic installer, this is based on how it has been done in prior releases.
So you can find the available JVM's for your platform here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/files/oracle%20fusion%20middleware%2011gr1%20(11%201%201%201%200)%20certification%20matrix.xls
In this case that would be Sun JVM 1.6.0_11+
    OR
    JRockit 6 Update 5 R27.6.2+
Then you should be able to run the generic installer here with that downloaded supported JDK:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/wls_main.html
I was not able to find anything specific on the documentation pages that described this process in detail, but you can always open a support case to get some assistance. I will check with the documentation team to see if that is going to be documented or already is.
If you look at the 10gR3 releases, it shows how the generic installer is used, for example:

  • Java 8 JSE+JDK : Install 32 or 64 bit?

    Hi. A "noddy" installation question...
With Java 7 it was advised to install Java 32 bit even on a Windows 7 64 bit machine to give 32 bit web browser compatibility.
Is this still the case for Java 8 JSE and JDK (and Netbeans)? Or have they fixed the browser incompatibilities so that a JSE 64 bit install works ok?
The Oracle Java 8 installation instructions are unclear on this. They talk only of installing JSE 64 bit on 64 bit Windows and the old 32 bit .v. 64 bit advisory only covers Java 6 and 7 (perhaps because its not been updated for 8) - but it does advise using JSE 32 bit for 32 bit browsers on a Windows 64 bit machine.
    Many thanks.

Unfortunately my "Answer" (to use the version that suits the browser) is contradicted by a Warning when I tried to install the 32 bit JDK+Netbeans Cobundle
JDK and Netbeans are NOT your browser. Install whatever you want for Netbeans and general JDK use.
The JRE used with the browser should, as the advice told you, match the browser (32/64 bit) you are using.
Use the Java Control Panel to configure the JRE installations that you want the browser to work with.
The runtime versions you configure AND enable in that panel determine what Java versions are 'active' as far as windows is concerned.
Go to Control Panel -> Java to open the Java Control Panel.
Then select the Java tab and 'view' to see the JREs that are configured.

  • OEPE Install for Solaris Sparc 64 bit

    Hello Experts,
OEPE (Oracle Enterprise Plug-in for Eclipse) issue....
We have installed the below @ Sun Solaris 10, Sparc 64 Bit.
    Web Logic 10.3.6
    SOA 11.1.1.6.0
    AIA 11.1.1.6.0
trying to install OSB (Oracle Service Bus) and it asks about the OEPE Install location and gave an error.
INST-07246 -- Enter a Valid value for OEPE Home location..
We have NOT installed OEPE, because it is NOT available for the version and the platform we have.
The OTN doc says as below:
Oracle WebLogic Server 11gR1 (10.3.6) + Coherence - Package Installer Size: .99 GB, Check Sum: 3179053739
This download provides a WebLogic Server generic installer. This installer does not include a JVM/JDK or Oracle Enterprise Plug-in for Eclipse, these must be installed separately.
    Question(s):
    1) Where can I get the OEPE for Solaris 64 bit and SOA 11.1.1.6.0?
    2) Any other workaround for the OSB install issue??
    Thanks a lot
    Rgds
    Natrajan

    Hi Natrajan,
I don't think there is a Oracle packaged OEPE for Solaris 64... There is a Linux 64 though, but I don't think that is what you looking for...
Here you can see the available packages
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/eclipse/downloads/index.html
What you can do is to install Eclipse for Solaris... and then go to the link above and download a package "OEPE Plugins Only" and apply the plugins to your Eclipse
