SUP 2.x installation platform options

We are an SAP shop and and now we are looking at getting SUP 2.x (Enterprise Builder initially) and Afaria. Being quite used to SAP installations etc the Sybase documentation makes it difficult (at least for us) for us to decide what exactly we need from a HW and software platform.
Browsing the Sybase online documentation it seems that Windows it the predominant OS for installation.
What we are looking to do is to see how the whole process from developing an app to having it deployed and used on an end users device holds together.

Afaria supports MS SQL, Oracle or iAnywhere - For prototype or development would the no cost option of iAnywhere be acceptable.
So basically getting ONLY the above two Sysbase components, would this allow us to test and get a good feeling of how the solution works end-to-end?
Are we missing anything obvious?
We are looking at putting all the server components on one server - is this resonable?
Any other reccomendation's of what we need would be appreciated also.

i was using the same... i wanted to reinstall it but could not.
since it was trial version so it can not be reinstall on same machine coz some files got copied in registry
and they cant be deleted .
the only way to reinstall the same is format ur machine and try to reinstall.
it must work.

SUP 2.0 Installation problem -SUP services dont start after installation

Hi,
I have installed a licensed version of "SUP 2.0 Personal developer 32 bit" on my machine from https://sybase.subscribenet.com. I installed 4 RAR files (sup0200_dev1_win to sup0200_dev4_win) of around 1.66 GB. I have unzipped all the sub-folders inside after unzipping the 4 main RAR files.
I followed the installation steps and installed all components on a single host.
Everything was fine while installing but I am facing these problems:
1. When I click Start > Programs > Sybase > Unwired Platform > Start Unwired Platform Services... nothing starts.
2. When I open Sybase Unwired WorkSpace I dont see any "Start Development" or any "WorkSpace Navigator" or anything specific to SUP Workspace. Only specific to Eclipse is what I see.
3. Most of the folders in the installed path is not there or are empty. For e.g. The folder Servers\MessagingServer\Data is empty.
For another information I see some error in the installation log like:
+(Nov 3, 2011 11:38:31 PM), , com.sybase.stf.install.uep.wizardaction.CopyInitConfigFiles, err, Could not copy directory D:\Sybase_Installables\sup0200_dev3_win\modules\mobileserver\syscheck to D:\Sybase\UnwiredPlatform\Util\syscheck ServiceException: (error code = -30000; message = "The system cannot find the path specified. (3)"; severity = 0)
The strange thing is during installation the setup does not throw any error and I go to Finish the setup. Also I am able to successfully uninstal.
Could anybody please guide me how what could be the problem. I suspect the installable is not appropriate.

Do you see the services as being installed? What OS are you installing on?
I had to do a reinstall one time to get everything up and running, I also had the issue of the services not being properly installed (got a successful message after my first install but that in general seems to mean very little). I then carefully went through the prerequisites again and on second try things worked correctly.

Netweaver SR3 Installation - No option to install SAP System

Hello,
We are trying to install NW04s SR3 from the DVD shipment.
We have started the installation master CD:
51033511_11
However, in the SAPinst, we do not see an option to install SAP Netweaver system.
The options under SAP Netweaver are:
Standalone Engines
Optional Standalone Units
Software Lifecycle options
Can someone please tell us if SR3 installation is possible, or we need to upgrade from SR2 ?

SUP 2.0 Installation error

Hello Experts,
When i am trying to re-install SUP 2.0 in windows 7 64 bit, it generates an error
"The installation detects an existing installation of Sybase Messaging Server. Uninstall it before proceeding with Sybase Unwired Platform Installation."
I deleted Sybase Installation Folder.
I deleted all registry related to Sybase.
No any services found related to Sybase Messaging server.

Bug in the installation - Missing option to install Eclipse

Hi there. I've got a weird issue installing build 569 where it is expecting that I already have Eclipse 3.2 pre-installed and it doesn't give me the option to select the bundled Eclipse. The file is downloaded is named FullWorkshopStudioTrialInstall-569.zip.

Re-launch installer and hold Cntrl key until a console pops-up in the background, continue with the installation - Do you see the "Choose Eclipse" screen similar to the one at http://edocs.bea.com/workshop/docs92/studio32/Installation/InstallationInstructions.html#Plugin
If not, describe the exact steps and also send the debug statements to [email protected]
FYI: Indeed it is a weird scenario which I am not able to reproduce. As a workaround you can download WTP1.5 (wtp-all-in-one-sdk..) and install Workshop as a plug-in.

Installer for Optional CS5 Photoshop Plug-Ins Crashes

I'm taking a class and the teacher advised that the Filter Pattern Maker is now an optional plug-in and advised to download the Adobe Optional Plug-In Installer. Got all that. But when I open the DMG and click on the CS5 Optional Plug-Ins.mxp, it shows a Macromedia Extension Manager with Dreamweaver 8 selected and immediately crashes, saying the Extension Manager quit unexpected. If I try to report to Apple, it won't allow it.
I downloaded this item from:

where the page is titled, Photoshop CS5 Optional Plug-Ins.

NW2004S Installation - DI option

When you install a Netweaver 2004s System as a dev server, do you need to tick the DI option?
This is not supposed to be a DI server, but will be included in the DI landscape.
I have searched for SAP Notes/forums here but have not got a definite answer.

Its not necessary that you need usage type DI when you install a development server. It purely depends on your requirement. If u want to include this server into DI Landscape you have an option during the installation (ie) something like prepare for NWDI integration.
However if you don't have DI in your landscape then can proceed with the installation including usage type DI.

Application Installation Location option

How can i get the option of installing application in the selected location?
When I installed nokia messaging, quickoffice and adobe reader in my N97, it didn't ask for the location and installed it in the phone memory. Now my phone memory has become only 12.2mb.
How can i transfer these softwares to mass memory?
Is there any settings that after doing that all the installation goes to mass memory only and never to phone memory?
Please help anyone.

Unfortunately those 3 programs only install to C: (Phone Memory), there is nothing you can do to change that. The QuickOffice programs are a problem as they are ROM-based apps you are trying to update and there are restrictions in the Symbian OS currently that don't enable updating these files and relocating them to E:
I have a similar issue with 2 games I recently bought from Ovi Store that happily installed to E: but I decided to wipe my phone and lost the two games. The re-download option in Ovi would not work on these two games so Nokia sent me text messages to me so I could download them. Unfortunately, they have now installed to C: (I didn't get a choice) and I can't relocate them which is undoing the work I undertook to clear space on C: in the first place. Ovi Store is set to install to E: but it seems this 'back door' method Nokia use with the install texts doesn't follow this setting.

SAP Demand Management installation - VAT option?

Hi,
I am installing SAP Demand Management 6.4 SP12 for a Swedish client. During the installation of Process Servers using SAPInst, the first screen itself gives me an option for VAT (Value Added Tax). I have to select Yes or No but I am not sure how to make this decision.
It is true that Sweden has the concept of VAT everywhere, but I am not sure if that is relevant in the context of this installation.
Do I need to select VAT Yes or No? We have sent the question to SAP but as usual the response takes a long time. No one at customer side also knows what to do. And I want to be correct the first time rather than scrapping the whole thing later because of wrong choices.
Please help me in understanding this option of VAT and what I can do here.

Best Practice for SUP and WSUS Installation on Same Server

Hi Folks,
I have a question, I am in process of deploying SCCM 2012 R2... I was in process of deploying Software Update Point on SCCM with one of the existing WSUS server installed on a separate server from SCCM.
A debate has started with of the colleague who says that the using remote WSUS server is recommended by Microsoft because of the scalability security that WSUS will be downloading the updates from Microsoft and SCCM should be working as downstream
server to fetch updates from WSUS server.
but according to my consideration it is recommended to install WSUS server on the same server where SCCM is installed... actually it is recommended to install WSUS on a site system and you can used the same SCCM server to deploy WSUS.
please advice me the best practices for deploying SCCM and WSUS ... what Microsoft says about WSUS to be installed on same SCCM server OR WSUS should be on a separate server then the SCCM server ???

the above mentioned configuration I did is correct in terms of planning and best practices?
I agree with Jorgen, it's ok to have WSUS/SUP on the same server as your site server, or you can have WSUS/SUP on a dedicated server if you wish.
The "best practice" is whatever suits your environment, and is a supported-by-MS way of doing it.
One thing to note, is that if WSUS ever becomes "corrupt" it can be difficult to repair and sometimes it's simplest to rebuild the WSUS Windows OS. If this is on your site server, that's a big deal.
Sometimes, WSUS goes wrong (not because of ConfigMgr)..
Note that if you have a very large estate, or multiple primary site servers, you might have a CAS, and you would need a SUP on the CAS. (this is not a recommendation for a CAS, just to be aware)

Solaris 10 - Installation - Networked Option not display- RTL 8139 NIC Card

when i installing Solaris, the Networkd (Yes/No) option not display. In my PC (x86) RTL 8139 Networkd Card is installed. I'm not quite sureee, but you might want to run the SDDT test scripts...

This you can run from Windows, Linux on the same box, and it will list all the drivers for the hardware that solaris knows about. Inside the tool you can select, whether you want that list for Solaris 10 or SXDE...

partitions, and BIOS load with no issues. This is an inherited machine so i am unsure of where to look when I click the "load drivers" option to detect the drives. Is there any way to solve this short of re-installation?

I assume you can’t see the storage when you use installation media to boot your server, it usually caused by there have not storage driver, you can refer the following article

AIX6.1+HACMP+DB2 9.1+SAP ECC 6.0 High Availablity Installation

Installing SAP NW07 SR3 with DB2 on AIX HACMP
Scenario:-
DB will run on Node A
SAP CI will run on Node B
If node A fails DB will failover to Node B
If node B fails CI will failover to Node A
Shared SAP and DB filesystem are in SAN
Filesystems will failover accordingly
Requirements:-
SAP NW07 SR3 DVDs
AIX Node A
AIX Node B
HACMP supports node failures. We are not using HACMP to probe Application (SAP/DB) failures. i.e. if SAP or DB process crashes HACMP will not failover the resource groups.
/etc/hosts should have IPs of both nodes
Assumptions:-
PRD = PRD
Node A hostname: dbserver
Node B hostname: ciserver
Shared filesystems
These filesystems can be moved/ failed over (unmounted /mounted) from one node to another.
/usr/sap/PRD
/sapmnt/PRD
/db2/PRD
/db2/db2prd
/db2/PRD/sapdata1
/db2/PRD/sapdata2
/db2/PRD/sapdata3
/db2/PRD/sapdata4
/db2/PRD/log_dir
/db2/PRD/db2dump
Users and Groups will be created by SAPINST.
Please make a note of the UIDs as we have to use the same UIDs and GIDs on other node as well.
User Home directory:- For prdadm please use a home directory on shared disk
For e.g. /usr/sap/PRD/home/prdadm
Use Distributed Installation option in SAPINST
Installation steps:-
Node A:
Mount SAP filesystems
Mount DB2 filesystems
Check /etc/hosts that IP of both nodes are available
Ping both nodes and check the IP address
Check output of command ifconfig u2013a and confirm that both IPs are available
Start SAPINST with SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME option.
For e.f. ./sapinst SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME=dbserver
Step 1: Global host preparation (this should be easy to finish)
Step 2: Database instance installation
During this step note down UIDs and GIDs created by sapinst.
During this step please choose /usr/sap/PRD/home/prdadm as user home for prdadm user.
With SR3 DVDs db2 software will be installed in /db2/PRD/db2_software
Step 3: Install SAP Central Instance with SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME=ciserver
Stop / Start SAP -> Login and confirm SAP instance is running fine.
Shutdown SAP and DB2
Add entries in .rhosts in home directory on user prdadm and db2prd
For example in /usr/sap/PRD/home/prdadm/.rhots
<IP Address of Node A> prdadm
<IP Address of Node B> prdadm
<all possible IP address> prdadm
Similarly for /db2/db2prd/.rhosts
<IP Address of Node A> db2prd
<IP Address of Node B> db2prd
<all possible IP address> db2prd
Node B:
Move SAP resources from Node A to B (i.e. SAP filesystems should become available on Node B)
DO NOT MODE DB RESOURCES, Let it stay on Node A alone.
Create /db2/PRD and /db2/db2prd directories (this should have some free space, 10 GB is good to go)
Start SAP installation under Distributed installation option
Step 1: Global host preparation
Temporarily change /etc/hosts and make the IP of dbserver same as ciserver.
dbserver line should be written above ciserver line
i.e. u2018ping dbserveru2019 and u2018ping ciserveru2019 should return same IP address on Node B (NOT NODE A)
Step 2: Database instance installation with option SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME=dbserver
During this installation, make sure UIDs and GIDs are given same as in Node A.
You can confirm the UIDs from /etc/passwd and GID from /etc/group
Also, make sure you specify user home for prdadm as /usr/sap/PRD/home/prdadm
Once installation starts ABAP Load and one or two jobs are completed, please cancel the installation.
as db2prd
db2stop force
db2start
db2 connect to PRD
It should be successful. This confirms the DB2 is setup properly.
db2stop terminate
db2stop force
rm u2013r /db2/db2prd/*
rm u2013r /db2/PRD/sapdata1
rm u2013r /db2/PRD/sapdata2
rm u2013r /db2/PRD/sapdata3
rm u2013r /db2/PRD/sapdata4
rm u2013r /db2/PRD/log_dir
rm u2013r /db2/PRD/db2dump
Retain these directories so that you can mount the shared filesystems from Node A to Node B during failover.
Change and correct IP address in /etc/hosts of host dbserver, which we changed temporarily earlier.
Failover DB resources to Node B
Check if all DB2 filesystems are correctly available.
On Node A, check and double confirm that there are no files/directories under /db2 and its subdirectories. i.e. all filesystems have come to Node B.
In our case there was one filesystem /db2/PRD/db2prd which did not come to node B and we had to struggle a lot to find the same.

Oracle 9.2 Installation Guide; User question

Hi,
i want to install Oracle 9.2 on SuSE Linux 9.3 professional. Beacuase
of that i read Ivan Kartik's Installation Guide. But i don't understand the
first step. I create an oracle user, but how can i log in as the oracle
user?
Because whenever i try to install oracle as the standard user (not the root)
i get the error that i don't have the specific permissions to install the
configuration assistant.
Can somebody help me, please??

Hello.
You don't need contact me because I'm checking this section every day.
Installtion of Oracle SW is performed under non privileged user (usually oracle).
Of course there are some steps which could be done with super user rights only.
As far I know there are three steps which must be done by root:
1. create oracle user (dba group)
2. execute the /tmp/OrainstRoot.sh script
3. execute $ORACLE_HOME/root.sh after installation
4. (optional) install new JRE (as desribed in my article)
If you don't have root acount there must be a person responsible for OS (System administrator - SA) with the root account. So when you need to perform som of above steps contant your SA.
I can see (from your post) that you have root account.

Assume that you are logged as root (or other user). In this case use following command:
su - oracle
Because whenever i try to install oracle as the standard user (not the root)

configuration assistant.1. You could use other shell (terminal) where you will be logged as root to perform steps under privilegged user
2. or when "su - oracle" was used then simply exit current session by "exit" command.
3. you could login as root when you execute su - command.
