Super drive dvd player superdrive

the superdrive only lets you set a region 5 times so after that 5th time it is lockd and now i can only play dvd from asia is there a way to reset the super drive?

At the user level, you are
However, the standards specify that there are still three more service-level resets, each counting for 5 user resets, for a total of 20 region changes. So now you have to chummy up to a savvy Service Provider or Store Genius. Else you will remain as stated above....

  • MacBook Air. How to eject CD when it stuck inside of Super Slim DVD player?

I'm using MacBook Air with Super Slim USB2.0 (portable DVD player). I inserted a Blu-lay disk in accident and then the disk stuck inside of the player. I can hear motor sound from the player but disk does not come out. I tried to write "drutil eject" on Terminal but did not work. Please help me how to take the disk out of Super drive. Thanks!

Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
      1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
left mouse button until the disc ejects.
      2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
      3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
      4. Press COMMAND-E.
      5. If none of the above work try this: Open the Terminal application in
your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
            /usr/bin/drutil eject
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into Single-user Mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above. To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.

  • Can I install a super drive dvd buner?

I have a G4 (466 MHZ) I would like to buy a digital movie camera and make DVDs on the computer from video I have taken. I do not have a dvd burner in the G4.
My question: Can I install a super drive or use an external dvd burner with the current computer?
    Thank you.
    G4 - 433mh   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

Fred's reply is 2007 , but a few years ago, I used my ol' reliable friend, my Cube/450 for creating DVDs.. it needed a looooong encoding time (usually over night), but it does work ...
    but...
with 10.2, use old versions of iDVD (4 or 2...)
    don't upgrade to QT 7...
be sure, the internal drive has allways 10, better 20GB free....
and, iDVD≤5 does not support external, firewire connected burners... so, if you're able to use a screwdriver, install any nice Pioneer at a free internal IDE connection; or, dare to use a 'hack', http://patchburn.de/ (english spoken), to teach iDVD4 to use external drives...
... that's all not state of the art, lege artis ... but... for less than 50$ you get a DVD-burning Mac..
    ... a slow burning Mac ...

  • Super Drive - DVD Writing issues

    Hi,
Every time I try to write a DVD (this was working!) it fails with:-
    Hardware Error
    Sense Code
    0x09, 0x01
    Tracking Servo Failure
The DVD's I am using are HiSpace DVD+R 4.7Gb printed silver.
Any Ideas? I can write CDRs but need to write my photos to DVD as there are many Gb's worth!
    Cheers in advance,
    Carl.

mmh... the mini Superdrive is notorious for being below par in almost all respects, but just writing a DVD should be OK. Couple of things to try:
    1. Reduce burning speed
    2. Try with DVD-R media

  • DVD player (superdrive) spits out DVD's

I can't watch DVD anymore. Everytime I put in a DVD (original DVD's, no illegal copies) in my iBook G4...it reads...then it ejects the DVD...
What seems to be the problem?
    Thanks in advance.

try position your ibook sideways...the lens will read the DVD and then...hopefully it will play.
this didn't work for me. but...the superdrive didn't immediately spat out the DVD. The DVD actually stayed longer than normal...
but try it. it worked on a Sony Playstation console...

  • Life's Good External Super Drive DVD Rewriter

I bought the Life's Good DVD Rewriter a while back when my DVD writer died in my tower.
The first time I plugged it in, the LG's DVD showed up on my desktop and I was able to burn a disc from iDVD3.
I then stored the writer away, and now when I plug it in, I nolonger see it on my desktop. When I push "Burn" in iDVD the broken writer in the tower opens up. I can't find anywhere in iDVD to ask which writer to use.
Moreover, when I put a DVD or CD in the LG's writer, the disk shows up on the desktop.
How do I get the External Writer to work with iDVD3?
    Thanks.

Hi George, perhaps you had Patchburn installed before anf it got overwritten?
    http://www.patchburn.de/
As I recall, prior to iDVD5 external burners were not supported...
You can also burn it as a Disc Image then use DU to get it to a DVD...

  • DVD Player crashing leopard

    Hi everyone.
I've been having huge problems with DVD's on my powerbook
Whenever i put a dvd in the drive, dvd player starts, and just as the disk starts to spool up and start playing the movie, the beach ball of death starts spinning and the computer freezes completely. I've tried several disks and the same happens everytime. It only started happening after I installed the 10.5.2 update, could this have something to do with it?
    Any help much appreciated
    Cheers, Dave.

What happens when you insert a non-video DVD, such as the Leopard Installation Disk?
What happens if you open System Preferences +CDs & DVDs+ pane, and for +When you insert a video DVD+ select IGNORE? If inserting a video DVD mounts to the desktop without the freeze up, try starting DVD Player manually. If it plays without freezing up, go back to System Preferences +CDs & DVDs+ pane, and for +When you insert a video DVD+, put it back to *Open DVD Player*.
See if the original problem is got resolved.

  • I can't burn a dvd using any method, Idvd tells me that my super drive is missing, dvd studio pro quits when i click burn and disk utility keeps spitting the disk out when i click burn and enter the disk??? how do i repair my superdrive for imac

I can't burn a dvd using any method, idvd tells me that my super drive is missing, dvd studio pro quits when i click burn and disk utility keeps spitting the disk out when I click burn and enter the disk??? how do i repair my superdrive for imac, or how do I do whatever I need to do to get it working: I have already tried using a lens cleaning cd and also restored my nvram or something i forget what it was called but i restarted my computer holding down  command+optoion+p+r and still nothing???
Free solutions are the best, although if I have to pay I will, I would prefer to not have to buy an external burner if possible and already know that is an option so please don't give me that answer... thank you for any help you can give

Unless your iMac is still covered by AppleCare, get an external DVD burner.
You can get perfectly good ones from Amazon for less than $40.

  • My USB super drive is not reading DVD

when i connect my usb super drive is not reading DVD

External SuperDrive DVD player fix - RESOLVED!
This solution worked for my Superdrive, which I had installed in a USB external case, so now it can play movies using Apples DVD Player App, but additional steps may be needed, as I outline below.  I had removed the SuperDrive from my mid-2009 Macbook Pro 15" 2.53 ghz to install a second hard drive with Other World Computing's "Data Doubler" adapter, and mounted the SuperDrive in an OWC Value Line SuperSlim external case.
I don't know if the first two steps below are necessary, but I had done them first, because others suggested them as fixes before I found the solution in the 3rd step.
    1) I installed Apple's SuperDrive Firmware Update 3.0, which is on Apple's support site at http://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201953
    2) Then I applied a fix on this page, http://www.hardturm.ch/luz/2011/10/how-to-make-the-macbook-air-superdrive-work-w ith-any-mac/comment-page-12/#comment-106449, using Text Wrangler to edit the preference file at /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist by adding code mbasd=1 between the two string values. However, that still did not resolve the problem. I left the preference file with the code “mbasd=1″ included, as outlined on that site.
    3) Then, I used the fix at http://macriot.com/mcrt/?p=2294 which requires modification of some code embedded into OS X’s DVDPlayback framework; essentially replacing the words “internal” with “external”
Now my external Superdrive plays movies using DVD Player.

  • A DVD external super drive on a Macbook-pro 15', any chance to work?

Hey! I bought a macbook-pro 15’ in 2009 which does generally well. Nevertheless it has a problem concerning the DVD internal drive. It doesn’t read   anymore and I have tried to clean with no effect. Few days ago I bought an external USB super drive from Apple store. I did so because I did not like to give my computer back for service, when I need it all the time for my work. I thought with that I would have solved my problem. Now I realized that things are not so easy, I must have made a mistake. Macbook-pro 15’ is not supposed to be connected to an external USB super drive. Can I still do something to make it work? Thanks

Apple designs external Superdrive to only work with computers that shipped without an optical frive. Why don't you save yourself much grief & return it. Then purchase any USB drive you want, just not a Superdrive. Thousands on the market & they will work just fine with your computer.

  • DVD Player installation error A valid DVD drive could not be found. [-70012]

My iMac has an external "superdrive" and I can't play files .dvdmedia.  On opening the DVD Player I get this message:  There was installation error  A valid DVD drive could not be found. [-70012]
This sent an error message to Apple when I click the OK button.
I have tried to relinstall the DVD player.app from the SnowLeopard disc, but this app was not on the list for custom install.  I have repaired permissions, no help! I have shut down and waited several minutes and restarted, no help.

My continued frustration with this problem lead  me to an archived discussion https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2020977?start=0&tstart=0  This lead me to beleive I need to use the reset password to fully repair my permissions as contained there.  Also while booted in the install disc, I performed a Repair Disc on the StartUp disc.
After all this, when I restarted, the DVD Player was able to play DVDmedia files completely.
So I quess I solved my own problem.

  • Can the Mac mini's Super Drive (Early 2006) *read* DVD-R discs?

I made a back-up of a movie and burned it on to a DVD-R. I took the burned DVD and popped into my DVD player in the living room and it played just fine. I then put the burned DVD back into my mini, DVD Player.app opened and when I clicked play said the disc was invalid/unsupported (I’m not in front of my mini so don’t have the exact wording of the error). The DVD never even mounts on my desktop or Finder side bar. I went back and referenced the tech specs for my model and it reads:
    Slot-loading SuperDrive with double-layer support (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
That just seems strange that it would burn to a DVD-R with no problem, but then not be able to read it.
I’ve put other DVD-R’s in the drive to test and the same thing. I had a back-up copy of my iPhoto library that I burned on my PowerBook on a DVD-R and this disc never mounted. I can only push the eject key on my keyboard to get the DVD out.

I think I found my answer over at 123macmini.com
    Slot-loading SuperDrive with double-layer support (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW):
writes DVD+R DL discs at up to 2.4x speed,
writes DVD-R and DVD+R discs at up to 8x speed,
writes DVD-RW and DVD+RW discs at up to 4x speed,
reads DVDs at up to 8x speed,
writes CD-R discs at up to 24x speed,
writes CD-RW discs at up to 16x speed,
reads CDs at up to 24x speed

  • IMac will not play the DVD that I have made on imovie and burned on iMac SuperDrive  ?? (DVD plays fine on household DVD player and also play fine in Toshiba laptop ) Why not on the iMac - anyone know???

iMac will not play the DVD that I have made on imovie and burned on iMac SuperDrive  ?? (DVD plays fine on household DVD player and also plays fine on Toshiba laptop ) Why not on the iMac - anyone know???

There are many reasons this could be the case but whether an optical disc can be read or not is a function of:
The reflective media layer of the disc
    Whether the burned disc was a DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW
The brand, model, and production lot of the disc
The specific frequency of the Write lasers that burned the disc
The specific frequency of the Read lasers that are attempting to read the disc
Are the Read lasers in the drive working (it is common for one set of lasers in a drive to fail while others continue to work)
How old are the Write and Read drives (laser frequencies change with age)
Is there dust on the read laser
Is there dust on the read lens
    etc.
At one time it was estimated that fewer than 80% of all burned discs were readable in 90% of the drives. That has, I believe improved over time but at the same time it seems the faillure rate of lasers in the drives has increased but that may simply be the result of how many different read and write lasers there are in today's superdrives. Fortunately todays drives are a lot less expensive the replace -- now that Apple no longer installs optical drives in their computers.
