There are several things you can try:
1. Press COMMAND-E.
2. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the mouse button.
3. Restart the computer and simply wait. The disc may be ejected automatically.
4. Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder and paste the following command at the prompt:
drutil eject
Press RETURN

my super drive wont burn dvd . and i get an error : sense key medium error sense code =0x73,0x03 for cd it work fine and read dvd ok just wont burn dvd of any kind tryed differrent makes but no result .. help pls

Hi and welcome to the discussions!
    Google is your friend...
I found this on a Roxio forum, but it offers the best advice I have seen anywhere about this error.
Basically, it is most likely the media or the speed you are trying to burn at. It could be a few other things, but those are the most likely culprits.

  • Cd drive wont eject discs

my cd drive wont eject discs unless you smack the bottom of the computer. does any one know an email adress to contact apple technical support? also my fan is making horrible noises. and the computer wont play any videos i download now in any program. i live in alaska, is there any way to mail it into apple to have repair done on it?

The simplest is to call the AppleCare support toll free number…

  • Dvd drive wont eject - using windows 7 - G50-70 i5

Im having problems with my dvd drive.  Have seen a few similar posts on here but I cant get anything to work.  The drive did initially work, but now I have installed windows 7, it wont eject.  The drive can read discs.  When I press the eject button, the light comes on, and I get the usual noise of the drive, but it wont eject.  It will eject using a paperclip, but not using eject under my computer.  Ive installed the lenovo eject utility, but no idea how to use it, but I dont think that having to go into the bios everytime or to use a paperclip is acceptable on a new laptop.  Would be grateful for any tips to try before I send it back.  For example, where can you download a mat**bleep**a driver or firmware update? Ive searched but they dont seem to have a website.  All I seem to get is lots of utilities that want paying for downloading anything.  Many thanks for any help, Tristan

    hi Tristan,
    Welcome to the Forums.
AFAIK, when you press the eject button, it sends a signal to the logic board, and the logic board sends a function to the eject machanism to release the tray. From your observation, it's likely that there's a mechanical or other physical failure inside the ODD that's preventing the tray to eject.
The Lenovo Eject Utility on the other hand is design for Thinkpads (haven't tested this on Ideapads units) and its function is the same when you right click on the DVD Icon and chooe Eject.

I recommend you contact lenovo and report your findings as you may likely need to send the unit for service.

  • New super drive wont register

Plugged new super drive in straight from box direct to usb it is not recognised. When the disk is put in it makes a werring noise and eventually ejects. If I press the disk ejector button on the desk top it makes no difference
    Any ideas please

No suggestion but maybe some sharing of your misery. I bought a new 24" iMac 2.8 ghz on 2/24. Two hours after purchase, I put a DVD in the slot and nothing. Twenty five minutes with tech support, trying several different options to eject the disk, got me nowhere. They told me I would have to bring the machine in for repair. I did that, and magically, the DVD player is recognized when he (at the Apple store) boots the machine and it ejects the disk. He said the machine was fine. I said that it wasn't if I had to take the computer for a ride in my truck every time the optical drive doesn't work.
I'm waiting for a diagnostic to be run but I have my doubts about support in this area. I believe that Apple will say that they found nothing wrong and it's user error (not hardly, but it's probably easier than fixing the bug with the optical drives). This is my first ride with a Mac and I expected it to be wonderful. It's not a very smooth ride so far.

  • Drive wont eject, not files but has data - no reformat option because cant

    Hi,
I have a WD500RE2 external connected through FW800. It is a backup drive. I ejected the drive, it disappeared from finder so powered it down (from drive enclosure). OSX red warning box reported I had failed to eject before removing...which was odd. So re-connected the drive and it appears but has no filestructure, no tree, files nada.
It won't eject claiming it has files in use. Tried lsof and nothing is reported, tried killing almost all drivers, still nothing. Tried USB connection nada. Tried this excellent thread including hdiutil eject, nada.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1334477
As its a backup, i'm not to concerned about the data, but i would like to re-purpose the drive. Disk Util won't repair (in use) wont reformat (cant unmount) seems to be stuck in limbo.
Is there a method, even with command line to wipe and start again ? Rather not toss it as i'm sure its a Filesystem/Trash lockup somehow.
    Thanks
    J

    Andy,
Thanks for the suggestions. Was hoping to recycle the drive as a backup with DU scrubbing it clean. The utilities you mention do look powerful, but as they cost more than a 1TB, i think my 500MB is going to meet my hammer - firmly. I might try to reformat it in a Windows m/c to see if i can regain control of it.
    Cheers

  • Super drive wont burn dvds

when i click the burn symbol the disc will eject and say error 34, start up disc is full. i have 80 gb on my computer and 75 are used up. i have just had a new drive put in aswell as apple store said other one was stuffed. how can i unfill the start up disc and make work? thanks for any info on this, LC.

    Lydon,
Per Narya's message, I don't think you have 6gb available....but there are several ways to confirm that. Since you have used Disk Utilities let's stick with that method...when you open Disk Utility any mounted disk, such as a hard drive, will be displayed. The first line is the mfr's model, etc along with the max capacity of the drive. The second line is the name you've give the HD. If you click the name, you will see the information at the bottom of that window display, among others, the Capacity, Available, and Used. Please confirm what you have available.
In terms of freeing up space there a number things you can do. The easiest is to make sure you have emptied your trash bin(Cntrl-Click the Trash Bin and click 'Empty Trash'). See how much space is available now.
So what's the deal with your other Hard drive...you mentioned in your first post? Is it external? Details.
Re. Maintenance scripts..there are many posts on this topic...you can do via terminal or there's freeware that automates the job. OSX actually does this stuff but your computer needs to be on when the job is scheduled. Otherwise it will not run. So here are a few that allow you to schedule/run the scripts in a much easier fashion:

  • Secondary drive wont show up on my laptop.

Hello.   I have an HP Pavilion dv7 laptop.  I just added an SSD as a primary boot drive for windows 7 (works great). Problem is with the second drive.  Before I uninstalled the original SATA drive, I uninstalled windows 7 by installing linux Ubuntu on it and manually partitioned the drive.  I now want to make the original SATA drive my secondary in the secondary drive bay.  It doesnt show under Start/Computer.  I double checked the connections and all is well.  The SATA drive had no issues when running as a primary boot drive.  Am I supposed to do something in BIOS?
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Leman

If both Macs were running Leopard, you should be able to use Setup Assistant (preferred) or Migration Assistant to transfer your stuff.  You can also probably restore selected items, per TM's "Star Wars" display.
But do not try to do a full system restore; the 2006 iMac most likely won't run with the version of OSX on the 2007 model.
By "the new mac won't recognize it" do you mean it doesn't appear on your desktop or Finder sidebar?  If it doesn't, try to repair it, per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.

  • Super Drive Wont Take disc

Okay I have seen many problems similiar to this. My wifes macbook will not suck in the CD. You can force it in by pushing on the cd. I have completely reloaded the OS and still the same thing. Anyone else have this issue ?

My son's MacBook has also ust started doing this. Does not 'suck in' the disc and if you push it in it just ejects it again after about 5 seconds.

  • After getting my 2007 imac's HDD repaired, the super drive stopped working... How can i fix this?

After getting my 2009 imac's HDD repaired the super drive wont work anymore... How can I resolve this?!

I think you need to contact the repairer, and explain the problem as something may not have been reconnected properly on the re-assembly. That is not to be assumed as fact, so taking a diplomatic approach along these lines in negotiation would be in your interest.

  • Super drive jammed. It does not accept CD, How can I reset it?

I have tried to put a CD in it but it does not seem like operating at all. Is there way that I can reset the Super drive?
    Thanks

Try resetting the > Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
    3. Wait fifteen seconds.
    4. Attach the computer's power cord.
    5. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the compute
then the PRAM and NVRAM > About NVRAM and PRAM
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Turn on the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6. Release the keys.
Then if it is still not working, you need to make an appointment at either your Local Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider and have it fixed. > Apple - Find Locations

  • HT2494 Usb super drive is not playing my dvds.  keeps ejecting them.  It is brand new

USB SUPER DRIVE IS NEW.  MAC IS NEW.  THE DRIVE IS NOT ACCEPTING MY DVDS.  KEEPS EJECTING THEM.
I HAVE THE MAC, 21.5 INCH INTEL BASED DESK TOP

I have the same issue wherein my external usb superdrive is ejecting the DVDs.
When I had the Snow Leopard, I was able to copy the DVDs into my hard drive, or even just watch DVD films.  Since I have the Mountain Lion, the DVD films which I used to be able to watch were not able to be read anymore ... it ejects them.
I did not notice it when I upgraded the Mountain Lion, because I did not watch any new DVDs.  Noticed this only couple of months back, and been searching for the solution.

  • New iMac new usb super drive but disc keep ejecting

I am a new user of a new imac, installed new usb super drive but disc keeps ejecting.

A reply to similar question (Q & As , in product page Apple Store) says:
"...dissable the internal reader hardware from devices setup. Then plug the external usb superdrive and that's it."  Answered by Enrique T from Lima Oct  25 2013.
If you can locate an external Apple USB 'Air" superdrive for earlier model MacBook Air, that should work. The newer one for the Air is the same as for iMac, now.
You may be able to use other brands of external USB optical drive with your older intel-based iMac, as some of them function capably. A few should also be able to see system discs or other bootable utilities on DVD.
    Hopefully this helps.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Super Drive in my Intel iMac making noise

My 21" Intel iMac (v.10.8.3) super drive just started making this chattering sound when I inserted a disc.
I had copied 4 CD's to iTunes, then the fifth started to make that loud chattering noise.
I ejected the disc and cleaned it up but that didn't help.
