Super fast wifi at times on original iPad
Was wondering if anyone else has experienced this on their original iPad.
So I own a 3G / wifi 32 original iPad ... Bought in 2010. It works great, iOS 5.1.1
I've noticed that at certain times, especially at night, between 6-midnight and slightly past , that my iPad not only gets really fast wifi speed, but also the screens resolution is slightly "crisper" than usual..... More "hd" if there is such a term .... Icons look sharper, Colors are sharper, even letter, text, etc... Appear to be really crisp, sharp.... Even home page icons seem slightly tighter, smaller, very clean and crisp and clear, extremely sharp. Even the screen keyboard type action is tighter and "less sluggish".
I know it sounds crazy, but I assure you, this occurs. Then, in the morning, it's back to normal,,then repeats at night. Wt.... Is going on?

I understand network may be less cluttered , which would explain the faster speeds, but, my main question is why and how a stronger wifi speed, connection, etc.... makes my screen "crisper" and super clean, tight. I love it, and I wish it was like that all the time, but like I said , usually in the morning, it's back to "normal" which is still pretty crisp and clean, but not as ... As at night. Again, question is screen res. is affected by wifi network speed, strength?

Do #5.
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app

• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

MacBook super fast wifi, XP running about 1/4 as fast?
Hi- I have a Time Capsule (811/n) which my MacBook (811/g) picks up no problem. I have a new (homebuilt) PC to which I've hooked up a new Airport Express (811/n) as a wifi receiver, connecting via a cat5 cable. While my MacBook, sitting right next to my PC, can download at 2+ MBps, the PC gets only 200-300 kbps.
The Airport Express is my 5th attempt to get hi-speed wifi (I've installed 2 different PCI cards and 2 USB adapters, and all had similar (or slower) speeds.
As an experiment, I disconnected AirPort on my MacBook and hooked up the ethernet cable from the AirPort Express- same result. Instead of 20mbps (2 megabytes) I normally get using the built in AirPort, I get the same speeds as my XP.
So the question I have is- should I be getting a faster connection between the TimeCapsule and the Express?

If you have an older "g" Express, I seem to recall that there is a huge bandwidth loss when the device is configured for ethernet clients, so that may explain your issue.
If you have an AirPort Express(n) try setting it up to "Extend a wireless network" The ethernet port is "live" in this configuration.
If you try this, you must place a check mark next to "Allow this network to be extended on the Wireless setup page for the Time Capsule. ( AirPort Utility, Manual Setup, Wireless tab).
On the Express, use AirPort Utility, Manual Setup, Wireless tab to configure the device.
Wireless Mode would be "Extend a wireless network"
Wireless Network Name...select the wireless network that the Time Capsule is creating.
Wireless Security...same as the network created by the TC
Passwords...same as the network created by the TC
On a speed check, I get a little over 5MB on the wireless network. Connecting an ethernet cable from the Express to my Mac, turning off wireless and using the ethernet connection, I get almost the same speed, about 4.7-4.8MB.
You might also want to take a look at ethernet powerline adapters. Within reason, almost as good as having a straight ethernet connection. -
I am prompted "the network (network name) requires a wpa password." after inputting my password, I have no success. Network status is on but is not connected to a network.

System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.

System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

Original iPad screen resolution
I've noticed that since I upgraded my wifi to xfiniti blast, super fast wifi, my original iPad screen resolution is much crisper, and clearer, cleaner...
Is the screen resolution and images on original iPad affected by a stronger , faster wif signal?
Or is it sometimes not as crisp and clear due to overheating?Are you using a cloud-based browser like Opera or iSwifter? This is the only way I can conceive your Internet connection affecting clarity.

I have an old Linksys WRT54G in it I can select WPA Personal and AES as algorithm--it works for me (though maybe just changing to anything works! but I will not try anything different since I have spent already so much time with this problem.) Again, thanks for the solution Juan. -
Wifi stops passing traffic on original ipad and ipad 2 running ios 5.0.1
I actually just started having this issue with my Original iPad and my iPad 2. From what I'm seeing is not a loss of signal but a loss of connectivity, they just stop passing traffic. When this is happening its sometimes to both iPads but not always. And both our iPhones do not experience the issue while the iPads are having the problem. (all devices running ios 5 and connected to the same AP). Wired devices also do not have any issues wile this is happening to the iPads.
What I have tried so far:
1. Changing Channels on the AP to a less congested channel (didn't help)
2. Shutting wifi off on ipad, then turning back on, solves issue for a random amount of time, then it happens again
3. Rebooting ipad, sometimes does not help at all until you turn off the radio on the ipad, then back on
I was ready to get a new router/ap but after reading some other comments, this may be an issue with other people.I have exactly the same issue on my brand new iPad2 running iOS5.
I have also changed the channel, tried different settings, etc. to no avail.
It tends to happen when streaming video - Skype, YouTube. Also during movie downloads.
My pc does not have this problem.
We're you able to find a reliable solution?

IPod Touch 4th Gen vs. Original iPad and WiFi
Can anyone explain this to me?
I have an original iPad, it's old, well abused, but works well, stuck at iOS5, and a new iPod Touch 4thGen, not abused, iOS6 and works "ok". Here's my issue,
using the same WiFi router that I do for ALL of my equipment, there is one spot in which my iPad will get WiFi just fine, but my iPod Touch will not get WiFi at all. Same exact position for both units, not touching either device, so there's no "hand position" issues.
I think it's an iOS driver issue, others seem to disagree. Other devices that work in the same exact spot: Droid tablet, Samsung Galaxy IIs, Windows XP/7 laptops/netbooks, and a Kindle Fire. Seems to me, it's unique to the iPod Touch and it's annoying me enough that it is quite possible the Touch will be my last Apple purchase.there is one spot in which my iPad will get WiFi just fine, but my iPod Touch will not get WiFi at all.
WiFi antennas are not created equal. The iPod Touch has a different configuration than the iPad which will also affect the antenna. The same goes for other WiFi devices, each will have its own unique antenna behaviors.
Have you checked that "Spot" to make sure you have a strong signal? Building construction and placement of metal appliances can affect signal strength.
Have you checked that "Spot" to make sure you do not have WiFi interference from WiFi routers at your neighbors, from 2.4GHz cordless phones, 2.4GHz baby monitors, Microwave ovens (also operate on 2.4GHz frequences). -

why can't I listen to radio stations and run a downloaded program at the same time with the ipad2 as I could with the original iPad?
is there something in the new one that I have not turned on?Nothing needs to be turned on. What apps are you attempting to use? Perhaps the versions you have don't support background operation.

Really weird WiFi problem with original iPad, please help!!!
Hey everyone so I recently inherited an original iPad from my uncle who stopped using it because of WiFi issues. Unfortunately he didn't do much to try to figure out the problem and there's no warranty on it but I'd really like to fix it!
The problem is that it doesn't display nearly any available networks under the WiFi settings, but it DOES seem to show and connect to unsecured networks (and works really well...I'm in a hotel typing on it right now). But at home, in the hotel room, at my uncles place, etc...no networks show up. Also I can't connect to them if I enter manually.
So far I've tried a hard reset, fully restoring, resetting network settings, and resetting all settings...I would take it to Apple but there's no warranty
Any ideas of how I can fix this potentially?

IOS 7.0.4 Update Causing my original iPad Mini to Crash / Reboot Several Times a Day
After running the 7.0.4 update on my original iPad Mini, now the device crashes / reboots randomly when I use it.
I have already tried a complete reset and restore. I redownloaded 7.0.4 using iTunes, setup as new but it is still happening.

Boot app: 2681261667I'm having the same problem with my ipad w/ retina display. Updated to 7.0.4 on Thursday or Friday and since last night been experiencing blue screen and random restarts.
Until recently it seemed to be linked only to the 'clash of clans' app, but now it is happening on the App Store too.
I contacted apple this morning, after an unsuccessful attempt at complete restore and set up as new ipad. They advised to restore a pervious back up and delete the clash of clans game. Did this, and now I'm getting problems elsewhere which suggests it isn't a compatibility issue with the OS and game.
Also in the same boat as you as I got it on November 2nd, launch day, and out of warranty by 2 weeks. Hopefully they can sort this either by fixing a bug in the OS or repairing my device as it's served me well with no issues for the past 12 months.
