Super g3 fax using an ATA 187

I can't get this working. I thought at first it was a sip provider issue but switched over to a pri with same result. I can get inbound faxes but cannot get outbound to work. I have tried almost everything I can think os  s3-to-g3, fax rate disable, ecm disable of the dial peers setting the rate to 9600 on the ata all with no success.  thx

  • Unable to fax between two ATA 187 attached fax machines

I have two fax machines attached to the VOIP network using ATA 187's using the T38 fax relay.  I am unable to send faxes between the two devices.  Has anybody experienced this issue and if so what did you do to resolve the issue.  Tried fax passthrough with no luck.  Also set the dial peer on the voice gateway to use the T38 fax protocol.  Thanks for any info.

Looks like I just answered my own question.  Since both of these devices are on the internal VOIP network, 4 digit dialing between devices worked.  I am able to send between the two ATA attached fax machines.  Originally I was trying to go outside, using 9xxxxxxx, which did not work.

  • Cannot send/receive fax reliably. ATA 187, CUCM 10.0, 2911

We have had ongoing issues with not being able to send/receive faxes reliably since we've installed this new phones system (previously we were on a Nortel system).
We are trying to fax using HP 4345 MFP, HP 3035 MPF, Richo MP 171.
Often faxes fail to send with a remote disconnect error or when we receive we only get about 1/2 of the page.
Where do I start looking first?  Is it the ATAs, CUCM, Voice Gateway or a combination?

still we are facing the same issue

  • Fax can receive but not send using ATA 187

Hi, i'm fairly new to the world of voice so please bare with me on this one
I'm upgrading a customer from analog telephony to VOIP and the customer wants his faxes working.
Telephone works fine, CUPC works fine, CUBAC works as it should etc but the fax-machines can only receive faxes, not send them.
    The setup is:
    CUCM 8.5.1.12900-7
    CUBE Version 15.1(3)T1
    ATA 187.9-2-1-0
    I'm using T.38 and SIP
When i put 2 fax machines on the new solution and test them they work. They can send and receive faxes but then the traffic is local and not sendt out over the IP-trunk. When i send a fax to a fax machine (from external) it works but  when the same fax machine tries to send a fax externally it failes.
It places the call but when it tries to send the fax it gives up.
I've atteached the "debug voice ccapi inout" and "debug ccsip all" from CUBE for details.
This is the last issue i have to get this customer flying on Cisco equiptment (i hope).
    /Tony

    Hi
Sorry for misleading you on that one. I know its on the trunk
And i believe i found the cause of my problem. The DN wasnt presented the way the the provider wanted it.
The misleading part was that it failed on media negotioation, not on the call. The log even tell the story of media negotiation being succesful but it also terminates on "cause=64" which is media failure.
I was able to place calls, receive call and receive faxes but not able to send any fax at all. That through me off thinking there was nothing wrong.
    Thanks for the help

  • Cisco ATA 187 faxing issues

We have a site (a new site) that has about 50 or so ATA 187's being used for faxing. Were having faxing issues where some fax machines can't fax to external (to the PSTN) fax machines. They seem to be related to Ricoh fax machines that are Super G3. Any one come across similar troubles with the ATA's? Considering going to VG224's.
    Thanks!

I have around 80 ATAs in production accross 11 sites and they gave me some headaches, a simple google search will produce dozens of similar issues.
Obviously there is a lot of things that come into play such as your PSTN transport (SIP/ISDN?) and also your media transmission method (t.38 vs pass-through). Here are some questions so we can better help you.
1.Start basic, make sure the affected ATAs have an external phone number mask properly assigned, sounds easy but this is the most common reason why my clients submit tickets.
    2. Are you using CUCM for call control?
3.Collect appropriate debugs and post them, "debug ccsip messages" or "debug isdn q931) depending of your transport. Also provide us a copy of your gw config.
    4. Symptoms: Issues with sending AND receiving? Error message/Busy signal?

  • Faxing using ATA's and/or VG's

Running into a situation with fax machines.  I am in the process of pulling all of our fax machines into the VOIP environment versus individual POTS lines for each fax.  I am able to fax between two ATA attached fax machines or an ATA attached and a VG attached within my local site using 4 digit dialing with no problem, but when I try to do the same to another location I receive a status sheet indicating a hang up or line failure.  All sites are part of the same VOIP infrastructure, with a publisher and subscriber at our main site and a subscriber at a secondary site.  There is a gateway (3900) at each location. The senior UC engineer and myself believe it is something on the gateways between sites, but we have not figured out what we are missing.  Any thoughts or ideas will be appreciated.  Thanks.

It is very important that the faxing method, such as T38, fax pass-through, etc., match between the ATAs, VG analog devices, and the PSTN voice gateways.  If it doesn't match, you could have issues with faxing.  The specific settings will depend on the exact equipment, protocols, and PSTN connection.

  • ATA-187 Disable / Prevent Speed Dials

    Hi all,
I'm working with a customer that used a (star) * in there dialplan.
The issue has risen now that they have purchased quite a few ATA-187 for remote locations for analogue phones, because the (star) * is interpreted by the ATA as a local speed dial number rather than pushing the full number the call never gets to CUCM (8.5).
Any ideas or suggestions would be great,
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Andrel,
The ATA-186s where great.. Ok they had a lot of problems with faxes but they are better than the ATA-187.
The section below is from the Cisco document.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cata/186_188/3_0/english/administration/guide/sccp/user.html#wp1017166
Change Your Pre-Call Service Access Code
You can use the default asterisk key (*) or the pound key (#) as the first digit in your pre-call service access code. To change this setting, use Bit 25 of the ConnectMode parameter (see the "ConnectMode" section on page 5-21).
If you download the complete guide it's on page 158 (or A2).
You can change the "pre-call service access codes" e.g. change the *1 for #1 in the speed dials.
    Regards,
    Mike.

It is possible T38 isn't playing well with the PRI.  You could try modem pass-through on the gateway and ATA187 if T38 isn't necessary.
Also, sometimes these commands are needed, but not always, so I would consider whether these fax commands under the dial-peer are necessary:
    fax-relay ecm disable
     fax-relay sg3-to-g3
     fax nsf 000000

  • Encryption on Cisco 7940, 6921, 6941, 8961 & ATA 187

    Hi,
We have CUCM ver 8.5 (Cluster of 2 servers, publisher & subscriber) registered with multiple 7940, 6941, 6921, 8961 phones along with few ATA 187 boxes. Everything is working fine but suddenly now business wants to enable security by encrypting data flow from few of these phones. These include 7940, 6921 and 8961 series phones, for testing purpose we had arranged the 2 security dongles needed for certificate generation. Followed each step whatever has been given in the below link.
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-18834
Observation :- Cisco 7940 Phones (SCCP)
CTL file is succesfully downloaded but when trying to push LSC  from call manager through "CAPF information" using "Authentication String" getting  "TLS error to x.x.x.x" after the phone power cycles (reset). Also once the authentication string is put on "LSC" under the "security settings" we get a "Connection Failed" error.
Due to which we are unable to register the phones using secure profile (LSC not getting downloaded).
    Cisco 69xx Phones(SCCP)
No security related settings seen on the phone itself --- do we need a specific firmware load / Call manager version for security to work on these phones (Cisco 69xx phones).
Update - Upgraded cisco 69xx phones to load version 9.1.1, now able to see the securuty settings
But still facing the same issue faced for 7940 phones, also the logs int the .txt file are similar. (pasted below)
Also as per cisco document these phones support security, link below...
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cuipph/6921_6941_6961/8_0/english/admin/guide/6921net.html#wp1092086
Didnt try any further with 8961 & 6921 phones as got stuck with the above 2 phones.
    Troubleshooting Done:
Checked & verified the serial number of the certificates on call manager (CAPF.pem & CallManager.pem with CTL contents), verified the hash value of CTL file with the CTL file downloaded on phone everythings is perfect and matching but still the LSC`s are not getting downloaded on the phone.
Also there is no cer files generated in the path below except for the .txt file (screenshot below).
    "file list activelog /cm/trace/capf/sdi"
common error seen in the .txt file is as pasted below..

  • Hotline (PLAR) in ATA 187

    Hi,
What is the configuration for hotline (PLAR) in ATA 187?
    The CUCM version is 8.6.1.20000-1
The ATA-187 firmware version is ATA187.9-2-3-1, which support PLAR according to the Release Notes:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cata/187/9_2_3/english/release/notes/atarn923.html
The ATA 187 phone configuration window in the CUCM includes the following Note:
***** Note: A custom Softkey template without supplementary service Softkeys must be used for a Hot line Device.

  • ATA 187 no good for PLAR

I have an ATA 186 which I've configured as a PLAR phone, using this method:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps556/products_configuration_example09186a0080232b9f.shtml
It works a treat, someone picks up the analog phone connected to the ATA and it uses a translation pattern to autodial a certain number which is forwarded to voicemail and the person on the phone hears a pleasant message telling them something.
However, business needs made me use this ATA for other uses and it was eventually replaced with an ATA 187, I configured it in exactly the same way, however the PLAR feature didn't work. I could manually dial the recipient number, but the translation pattern didn't kick in.
Could it be related to the 187 using SIP as opposed to the 186 using SCCP?
I'm not impressed with the 187. It looks good, but doesn't even draw PoE

  • Sending a message to fax using JavaMail

    Hello all,
we are trying to create a system to send messages. The input will come from an Oracle 9i (9.0.2) database, our goal is to create email messages which can either be delivered to an email address or to a fax number.
The systems works if all addresses are regular email adresses, but we get the following message when using a fax number :javax.mail.internet.AddressException: Illegal route-addr in string ``fax:[email protected]''
I have already change the parse-method to parseHeader with the parseOption false, so that the addresses are not controlled against the standard. I expect the ':' (colon) in fax:012345678 is the cause of our problem, replacing it with a random character returns a 'normal' error message for a non-existing address.
I have included the log message with the exception, the sourcecode of our SendMailTest and the source of SendMail.
Is there any work around to this colon, so we can send faxes as well as emails.
    Kind regards,
    Nemata
