Super long render times for easy stuff.

Hi there,
I'm new to the Final Cut Express HD (3.51) world and it seems like rendering takes unusually long.
I have the horsepower to handle it (new MacBook Pro 15 inch with 2GB RAM and LaCie external FW800 drive), but it just really bogs down when I change any of the parameters of the effects I have going on (feathered crop, motion, motion blur, etc.). And, this IS only a slideshow of pictures I'm working on here.
Anyway, any advice or help would be appreciated.
Thanks

you can also try reducing you resolution settings to 50% in your timeline settings, while you're working on your moves/pans. Although, not as pretty, this will definitely quicken the pace. Depending on how familiar you are with the images, you can reduce even more, (33-25%). Once you feel like you've nailed your Ken Burns, kick the reso. back up to 100%, render, and take a look.

  • After Effects CS6 super long render times.

I am trying to render multiple 30 second long compositions and the renders are reaching over 5 hours each. There is nothing special in any of the compositions. I have rendered these same compositions in the past with minor changes in AE CS5 and they finished in seconds using the Open GL renderer. I understand CS6 uses a different engine for rendering. I have ensured my video card is in the supported list (added it), and ray tracing is set to the GPU. I triple checked all the drivers and everything is up to date. I have tried every combination of settings I can think of with no results. Help!
    System Specs:
    i7-3930K
    GTX 770
    32gb ram
    Windows 7 64bit

Five hours is not an unusual render time for a 30-second composition, depending on the details of the composition.

  • Much longer render time for a few small changes?

I bought a new Macbook pro last week with a 2.4 ghz intel i5 processor and 8 GB of ram. I got Adobe premiere pro yesterday and I made a video which combined taking footage shot from my flip video camera and audio commentary that I recorded across the full video. The video was rendered with the setting H.264 and the preset Youtube widescreen HD, the final video was about an 800 MB .mp4 file. It took about 30-40 minutes to render.
Today, I added a 17 minute mp3 file for background music, which was 17 mb. I also added 6 images and 2 titles which overlay the video at different points. The only other thing I added along with these two was a 16 second mov file which serves as an intro video to my series. With these 3 (what I consider to be fairly small) changes, my render time has jumped dramatically. With the same export settings, I see the render time build and build until it reaches 4+ hours and I decide to stop. I've tried a couple different formats, but I'm not sure what else to do. I feel that 8gb should be plenty to render a video like this fairly quickly (like I did yesterday) and I'm not sure why it's taking so long compared to yesterday. Is this normal? Any help to guide me with reducing render times would be much appreciated. Thanks!

The Export time will differ by what one is Exporting from and what they are Exporting to. In this case, the "to" has not changed.
    What has changed?
Well, the stills for one. What is the format and what are the pixel x pixel dimensions of those?
The addition of the MOV is another place to look. What is the CODEC inside that MOV "wrapper?" Having to decode via the CODEC can impact the Export time.
The new Audio has changed. What is the format/CODEC of that music file?
Those are the first thoughts that I have on this, and good luck,
    Hunt

  • Super long render times every time I edit

    Hey all,
I would really appreciate a quick response to this. Just for some background I am using PP Cs5.5 on a Macbook Pro with 8 GB of ram and am using .mp4 files.
I have brought in an hour and a half long clip and I applied some color correction to it naturally it need to render and it took 7 hours to render. Now that it is finally rendered out every time i move the clip in the time line or make an edit it needs to take 7 hours to render every thing out again!
Please let me know if I am doing something wrong here or what it could be.
    Thanks for the help.

    OK.
Edits will change things, thus requiring new render files.  But just moving it in the same sequence should keep things rendered.

  • Extremely long display times for HTML in mail and Safari

Is anyone else experiencing similar lags in HTML rendering?
Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, I am experiencing extremely long render times for display HTML email messages in mail.   I am also experiencing extremely long render times in Safari.   I have Chrome installed on this same computer, if I goto the same website on Chrome and Safari, Chrome displays the page immediatly, Safari will take between 30sec and 1 minute.

The only way it can get fixed is if you report it to Adobe. Posting it here may not be sufficient. There is an Acrobat feature request forum here and a bug report form here: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

  • Xtremely long render times

I am doing a very simple project that seems to be taking longer than it should. I'm taking Sony HDV 1080i clips, about 10-15 minutes long, and adding an elapsed time window, and a time code reader window to them for a research client.  3 layers, no editing, no sound. I have place the HVD file in it's native sequence, so there's no rendering until I add the filters from FCP.  Then, it takes from 11-15 hours to render these sequences, then another 2 or so to export the files as h.264 for the client's use.  That seems really long to me.  I made a compressor setting, h.264 1920x1080, 25000kb, so I might avoid the long render time, but that took about 9 hours.  Am I missing something?  I usualy work with DVCPro HD, and notjhing I do, with lots of laysers take that long.

Not looking over your shoulder, I'm making a few possibly invalid assumptions.
The HDV is your first major problem. You should transcode that to ProRes422LT on ingestion and build your sequence in that format. The files are much larger but they're uncompressed. Well, they're compressed but they don't require decompression before they can be rendered.
Exporting to H.264 from PRLT in 1080 is  four to six times realtime depending on your system's specs. I't seight times on mine.
Placing your HDV sequence into a native sequence only means the base layer doesn't need to be rendered to be played. But the HDV must be unpacked, frame at a time, to be rendered with effects and that takes two to six times realtime. You say the clips are 15 minutes but you don't say how long the sequence that takes 15 hours to process is.

  • Long encoding times for footage captured with BMD H.264 Pro Recorder

    Hi there,
I'm experiencing very long render times when encoding footage captured with the BMD H.264 Pro Recorder. Watching it encode (either through Premiere CS6, or AME) it looks like the encoding stops for periods of time. With other footage I can encode a 50 minute project in about 15-20 minutes, encoding with footage from the Pro Recorder is almost 1:1 in terms of project length/encode time.
The Pro Recorder uses QuickTime for H.264 captures, so don't know if that is causing issues. Don't seem to have the same issue with other H.264 formats.
    System Info:
    Windows 8 Enterprise (RTM)
HP Z820 with dual hexcore processors, 32GB RAM
Quadro 2000 plus Tesla for Maximus configuration
All latest updates have been installed (yesterday)
    MPE is enabled for project
Also tested on a Z800 with Windows 7 and got same results
Editing the footage is fast and playback through timeline looks great. Anyone have a suggestion?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

QuickTime is still a 32 bit process and the 64 bit PP has to use a sort of "band-aid" to make QuickTime files work right.  It's possible that might slow things down.

  • Average Render Times for HDV? 1 1/2 minute takes 30 minutes

    Hello everyone.
I was curious if anyone has heavy experience with HDV render times or have a good resource to get average render times for HDV so I can make sure my times are close to everyone elses. I know HDV has a different GOP structure which makes render times longer, but it just seems to take for ever.
    I have a Dual 3GHz Qaud-Core MacPro with 5GB RAM using Compressor 3.
    1 1/2 minutes from FCP 6:
Preset 90min high quality DVD MPG 2- takes 30 minutes
    Preset M4V for iPod/iPhone - takes 40 minutes
Any knowledge or resources would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Deuce

To be honest, neither of your planned "upgrades" would improve performance all that much because you have too few drives and you will still have too little RAM. Premiere Pro CS5 still needs more than 12GB of RAM just to perform at its best. In addition, two drives (in your planned upgrade case, one SSD and one HDD) barely meet Adobe's stated minimum system requirements; Adobe strongly recommends more than three separate drives. (In your case, you'd need at least four completely matched hard drives in two (R)AID 0 arrays, with each matched pair in one array, in addition to the SSD.) And current AMD x4 CPU-based systems perform at least three to four times slower than a fast Intel-based system because the AMD CPUs do not fully support the SSE 4.x extensions that Adobe makes heavy use of.
As currently configured, you have a system that's at least 8 to 10 times slower than a fast, properly tuned Intel-based system. And even after you perform the so-called "AMD upgrade", your upgraded system will still be six to eight times slower than a fast mid-priced Intel-based system. And all that is due to the fact that you'd still have only two drives and too little RAM (IIRC you'd still have only 4GB of RAM and only a single hard drive for everything except the OS and programs even after the AMD-based "upgrade").

To be honest, that sounds about right.
For example on my 8Mbps (megbits) down service I get around 0.4Mbps upload.  That is the equivalent of (very approximately) 3Mb (megabytes) per minute or 180Mb per hour.  Over 7 hours that would be just over 1Gb.
Obviously, it all depends on your connection speed, but that is certainly what I would expect, and that is why I use my computer for backing up, not iCloud.  So much quicker.

  • Anyone else having extra long delivery time for the late 2013 macbook pro 15" 2.6ghz 1tb model?

Anyone else having extra long delivery time for the late 2013 macbook pro 15" 2.6ghz 1tb model?
As of today feb 15 i have been waiting for 78 days. Finland doesn't have an official apple store (only authorized resellers) It was my mistake because i should have bought from apple.com. But i think 2.5 months is too long and i have no information about when i can get it..

    The low-end 15” rMBP with a 8 GB or RAM and a 256 GB SSD costs $2,000.
    The low-end 15” rMBP with a 8 GB or RAM and a 512 GB SSD costs $2,300.
With 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD it costs $2,500.
    The high-end 15” rMBP with a 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD costs $2,600.
All cost $500 dollars more with a 1 TB SSD.
So the SSD size is not a differentiating factor unless you prefer 256 GB.
If you think you need 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD then you might as well spend the extra $100 for the high-end model.
The high-end model will make a difference on gaming and graphics-oriented applications.
They tend to run other applications at about the same speed.
Both models are rated with 8 hours of battery life.
Benchmarks on PhotoShop comparing memory sizes:  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5659174?tstart=30
The speed was about 10% different between 8 GB and 16 GB models.
On other applications your mileage may vary.
    Application benchmarks:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/2059215/15-inch-retina-macbook-pro-review-a-tale -of-two-laptops.html
The low-end and high-end performed the about the same on non-graphics oriented applications.
    Graphics oriented benchmarks:
On the Cinebench OpenGL benchmark the high-end was about twice as fast.
On the Unigine Heaven Benchmark benchmark they ran at about the same speed.
On the Unigine Valley Benchmark benchmark the high-end was about 1.5x as fast.

  • Long render time in FCP after using Handbrake

After seeing a suggestion in these forums on converting non-copy written DVDs to usable files in FCP I downloaded Handbrake. It works fine but the render times seem to be extremely long.
Is there any way to speed this up or perhaps any other programs I can use?

Match your export settings to an Easy Set up preset in FCP.
And you don't need Handbrake for unencrypted DVDs.
    Use MPEG Streamclip

  • New machine, new drives...all of a sudden, long render times. Need help!

Just purchased a new 8 core, 6 gigs of ram, and Sonnett raid array. All going well for a few weeks. Now, just to render a simple jpeg with a drop shadow or a 5 second Motion file it takes 7 minutes. I feel like I just threw 10 grand out the window! What is going on? Please help.

Thomas, I have a late 2007 MacPro, I have also just started with HD, well HDV, editing. I use motion very heavily and have to say that I have been noticing pretty significant render times as well. To answer your question yes, exporting an FCP sequence-native animation from motion will be muuuch faster that using templates. Templates are cool, and the idea is right on the money, but from what I have found, they take a long time to render and do not play back very well in FCP unless they have been fully rendered. If I use a template, it is with a graphic that I will overlay once the entire timeline has been put together, this way, I don't have to screw around with rendering templates as I am trying to edit other video/audio/graphics together in the timeline. I just finish the timeline, add the templates, and render the whole thing at once.
Like you, I am becoming very frustrated. As I mentioned above, my work around is to export most of my Motion 3 animations in HDV 1440x1080, send them to FCP and then they don't require any rendering at all - the only downside is that it won't support an alpha channel (at least not that I've seen) so those animations can't use any transparency.
Finally, I have also been having a ton of crashing issues with FCP giving me that same message about "Pro Media Plug In may have caused the crash" or whatever that dumb message says. I looked for any plug in that matched that description and couldn't find it - so I am dumbfounded. Has anyone else had this issue - FCP has crashed 8 times on me today.
Good luck, I'll be checking back on this thread to see if anyone has a fix or workaround or whatever.

  • Is this normal render time for an FCP Project?

I'm trying to determine if i have underlying problems with the computer or something else, because this seemed like a very long time to render.
    system config:
    G5 2 X 2.5 GHz procs
    2.5 G RAM
    Raedon 9800 XT - 256 MB VRAM
50Gigs available storage space on the internal drive
    Final Cut version 5.0.4
    OSX 10.4.4
    Project properties:
    5 layers
    bottom layer: animated quicktime movie
next layer: animated qt movie, with softwipe filter
next layer: Live type imported file: 5 lines of text, with "fade on" effect"
next layer: Live type effect with 3 words, with "horiz blur" effect
top layer: photoshop image.. basically a Lower third graphic, that is 720 X 480, one layer
No audio.. and none of the layers have any kind of keyframe motions whatsoever
    18 seconds long
    Output: 720 X 480 DV
    Total render time: 6 minutes
It seems like since i went from FCP 4 to 5, the render times have inflated... or am i crazy..
    thanks

If you're adding any Motion tab effects and your sequence is set to 'Best Motion Filtering Quality', then you can expect render times to be a bit longer than with FCP4. I don't think it's a big jump, though, but I might be wrong about that.
FCP4 used motion filtering quality that is now equivalent to FCP5's 'Fastest Motion Filtering Quality'.
Except for that, you probably just crazy . . . and welcome to the asylum.

  • Long execution times for TestStand conditional statements

I have two test stations – one here, one at the factory in China that has been operating for about a year. The test program uses TestStand 3.1 and calls primarily dll's developed using CVI. Up until a couple months ago, both test stations performed in a similar manner, then the computer at the factory died and was replaced with a new, faster computer. Now the same test sequence at the factory take three times as long to execute (30 min at the facotry, 10min here).
I have recoded the execution time at various point during the execution, and have found that the extra times seems to be occurring during the evaluation of conditional statements in TestStand (i.e. for loops, if statements, case statements). For example, one particular ‘for’ evaluation takes 30 ms on the test station here, but takes 400 ms at the test station at the factory (note: this is just the evaluation of the for condition, not the execution of the steps contained within the for loop).
The actual dll calls seem to be slightly faster with the new computer.
Also the ‘Module Times’ reported don’t seem to match the actual time for the module for the computer at the factory. For example, for the following piece of TestStand code:
    Label1
    Subsequence Call
    Label2
I record the execution time to the report text in both Label1 and Label2. Subtracting one from the other gives me about 18 seconds. However the ‘Module Time’ recorded for ‘Subsequence Call’ is only 3.43 seconds.
Any body have any ideas why the long execution time with the new computer? I always setup the computers in exactly the same way, but maybe there is a TestStand setting somewhere that I have missed? Keep in mind, both test stations are running exactly the same revision of code.

Got some more results from the factory this morning:
    1) Task Manager shows that the TestExec.exe is the only thing using CPU to any significant degree. Also CPU Usage History show that the CPU Usage never reaches 100%.
    2) I sent a new test program that will log test execution time in more places. Longer execution times are seen in nearly every area of the program, but one area where this is very dramatic is the time taken to return from one particular subsequence call. In this subsequence I log the time just before the <End Group> at then end of Main. There is nothing in Cleanup. I then log the time immediately after returning from this sequence. On the test system I have here this takes approximately 160 ms. On the test system at the factory this takes approximately 14.5 seconds! The program seems to be hanging here for some reason. Every time this function is called the same thing happens and for the same amount of time (and this function is called about 40 times in the test program, so this is kill me).
