Super slow boot time after upgrade

I upgraded from SnowLeopard to Lion a few days ago and now my computer (MacBook Pro; 2009) takes forever to boot.
I found other people with similar problems, but none of the solutions I saw fixed the problem. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

I would like you to check the following via the Terminal App in OSX Lion. Run the following command (do not type it, just copy and paste it):
ls -al /
Then, press the "return" key. The screen should show a lot of text when it is finished. Please copy and paste this text into this post.

  • Slow boot time after upgrading to Mavericks

I use MBP mid 2010 it came with Snow Leopard 10.6.8. About 2 months ago I upgraded to 10.9.2 and ever since I'm experiencing slower boot time - in previous OS it started within less than 30sec and right now it starts around ~1min untill I see the desktop, following another minute loading a few applications I have on startup.
So far I tried many solutions, including repairing permissions, I recently uninstalled Paragon NTFS (which helped with slow shutdown I experienced too, but not any longer), updating my software so it is the newest version, I also uninstalled SMCFanControl after which I did reset SMC and PRAM. But when I view boot logs I still have some errors with SMC..
If someone could take a look at my logs and tell me what should I do more I will greatly appreciate.

  • Slow Booting time after installing MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.0 on 13 Inches Mac 2010 model

I'm experiencing a slow boot time after my computer installed a MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.0 itself on 13 Inches 2010 model, how to downgrade or fix it?
My computer is starting 2 times slower then it should be, why Apple done this to me?
Please help who really know somthing about Macs.

I have the same problem, especially when I open my laptop from sleep.  It takes at least 2 minutes for the computer Internet connection to work.
Never had that problem prior to the last firmware update 2.7.
Is there a way to revert back to 2.6?

  • Slow Boot Times after installing new SSD and Lion

Can anyone please help interpret why I'm having slow boot times?  I have copied my console printout during the boot and it seems to be doing a repetitive action while booting.
    Thanks

  • Slow boot time after system update

    Hello
I had a system update a couple of days ago and since then I've noticed a slower boot time and my toolbar/applications hang for a while. It never used to do this before the update.
    Any ideas?
    I'm on a Macbook Pro OS X 10.6.8.

Download the free OnyX for OS X over at MacUpdate.com and run all the initial checks, (stop, backup and report if there is a warning) mainatinance and cleaning aspects (keep the log files) and reboot at the end (must)
That should give your machine a nice enema and hopefuly clear up the problem.

  • Slow boot time after removing bootcamp

I am a noob when it comes to a mac...I recently bought a Macbook Pro and installed windows using boot camp. The MBP always booted very fast. I realized I dont need Windows anymore so I removed it using bootcamp assistant. The problem is that now the boot time is very slow. Even before the white screen with the gray Apple logo. It takes at least 30 sec. any ideas?
    Thanks

    HI,
Check to see how much available space there is on the startup disk.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.
Insufficient disk space can cause the problems you are experiencing.

  • Slow boot time after migration - Help please!??

Over the weekend, I migrated the data from my Mac to my new MacBook Pro.  The pro is now very slow, 5+ minutes, to boot.  I am running OS X 10.9.5, Boot ROM Version MBP112.0138.B07, SMC Version 2.19f12.
I had taken all the junk off my Mac before the migration, but now I have two users, both me, and need help getting rid of one and trouble shooting the slow boot issue.  Any ideas/suggestions?

Hi you may have startup or login items that are slowing down the boot process. In system preferences./accounts/login items. You can uncheck them. Or if they are items you no longer use. Then to open the original app and see if the is an uninstall.  Here is a good article to readhttp://www.applegazette.com/os-x/10-tips-speed-os-x-mavericks/

    Hi jake Kramer;
No. Apple does not have the ability to roll back like XP.
If you have a backup from before the upgrade you can restore that backup.

Resolved.  After updating to 9.0.2, I edited an image and saved it as a PSD, but when naming the file I put in a "3.5x4.5cm" in the file name, and it saved it as an unopenable 5CM file.  I just now took the same inage and saved it as a PSD, but omitted the "3.5x4.5cm" in the file name and it saved it just fine as a PSD.  The same also for the JPEG.  The problem had to be in the ".5cm" ending of the file name.  Doing the 9.0.2 update just happened to be the timing of the file name problem.

  • Slower boot time on OSX Lion

2011 Macbook pro i5- Just recently installed osx lion. My macbook on snow leopard would take 30-35 second to boot completely. Once I updated to Lion it is now 50-55 seconds to boot completely.
Something that is werid is that there is a blank white screen after I click the power button. It lasts for about 15 seconds and then finally the apple boot logo appears.
I have selected the right hard drive on startup disks.

I just installed 10.6.5 via software update. I have restarted several times to confirm, and my boot time has increased from ~12 secs to ~24 secs.
Still fast, but it spoils the fun of that super fast boot time to show your friends.
Anyone else see this after upgrading to 10.6.5?
    I ran Onyx:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/systemdiskutilities/onyx.html
Ran it and got my speed back. Its doesn't hurt to run Disk Utility and repair permissions and check disk for any errors.
    Fourteen seconds boot time.

  • Slow down Database after upgrading to 10.2.0.5

    Hi
I am having performance problems after upgrading to 10.2.0.5
At the beginning I thought the problem was sga too smalle ( ini: 598M , now 1408M ) but even after recreating the database with the new value the problem remains.
I am sending reports so that someone could give me an idea.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Slow boot time (Video included)

It takes 44 seconds from first hitting the power button to my desktop appearing, it's not until around 22 seconds that anything even appears on my screen and the POST process starts so I don't think this is Windows related etc? I have tried with and without RAPID mode on my SSD and strangely it's actually 2secs quicker with RAPID OFF, either way 44 seconds is extremely slow for Windows 8 on an SSD?!
Worth noting that I had the exact same slow boot times while on my previous non EVO SSD and Windows 7 on this exact PC, have now just updated to Windows 8.1 on a brand new SSD but still have slow boot so guessing its something BIOS or MOBO related?
I've posted a video in the hope that maybe the LED indicator on the mobo might help someone point me in the right direction?

MSI Fast Boot is Disabled as it caused problems when I had dual boot and I've yet to reinstall it yet as it made very little difference to boot times but did cause me problems as I had an issue before where Windows wouldn't load and Fast Boot was stopping me getting to my BIOS as it disables the 'hit del to enter BIOS', so for now I feel safer with it off.

My system takes ~15 secs from Power button to desktop display (I'm booting from a somewhat slow Seagate Sata 2 320GB drive)--of course stuff is still loading at this point in the background.  My Windows 8.1 Start up-sequence boot timer says ~12 secs--but I don't think that is right and think it's cheating a wee bit...  Anyway, just looking at this stuff here's what stands out to me:
*You don't need the CD/DVD device ahead of your Windows boot drive in the boot order.  I only do that when I specifically have to boot from DVD for some reason,  which isn't that often.  By knocking back the DVD drive in the boot order it shaves maybe a couple of secs since there's no check for bootable DVD disk done before the boot is handed off to your really fast boot drive--and hey, if you *do* have a DVD disk just sitting in there that you don't want to boot from (this is my situation far more than I need to boot from the DVD drive)--that can take a couple more seconds, I think.  Where it really costs you boot time is when you have a bootable disk in the DVD drive that you don't want to boot from...  The "....hit any key to boot from DVD" will maybe 8-10 seconds to your boot.  Best policy: Don't put the DVD drive first in the boot order.  This one is minor, though,  compared to the next one:
*Your list of start-up programs is roughly 3x longer than mine...  I can see there are several programs running in your boot sequence that are entirely unnecessary in getting your machine up and properly booted--and every one of those unnecessary proggy's takes time to load through--during the boot process.  Most of those programs will easily run after boot when you need them to run--they just don't need to be run at boot-up.  Try disabling a bunch of them selectively until you get the reduction in boot time you're looking for.  I just checked my boot sequence in the 8.1 task manager...I have 11 programs in the sequence BUT...8 (eight) of them are disabled...!  They have nothing material to do with my boot so why should I let them clog up the boot process? I think you can make big time gains there. Another waste of boot time is stuff like QT task--you can update manually whenever you want after you boot--doesn't need to clog up the boot process, imo. You'll be surprised by how much you can excise from that program list without noticing it except in faster boots. (I don't run MSI fast boot, either.)
You are certainly right, though--your boot shouldn't be taking nearly so long.  Fortunately, it appears there's a lot your can do about it..!  Oh, yea--take AVG and shove it through the nearest window...  Be kind to yourself.  In 8.1, Defender is more powerful than MSE in 7 and Vista and XP, and MSE is not only great at protection, it also has a very light footprint and is the very antithesis of AVG in terms of being the sort of invasive, layered, resource hog that AVG is (at least, in my experience.)  He who travels light travels best, etc...

  • Awfully Slow Boot Time

Recently I have been experiencing very slow boot times with 10.6.5. Recently clocked it to be just over 2 minutes and up to 2 minutes 10 seconds (from the opening chime until finder loads). I have a MBP with 2.26 GHz Core Duo and 4 GB of RAM. Standard 160 GB HD (5400 Hitachi). I don't think it should take this long to load. I have repaired permissions and cleared caches to no avail. I only have 4 programs that start on login (iTunes Helper, Missing Sync, HP Scheduler and MS Au Daemon). I feel like this is an abnormally long start up time, am I wrong? Anyway, what should I do to resolve this or determine what is causing the long boot times. Thanks.
    Sean

So I just noticed that it takes about 40 seconds from the boot chime before I see the Apple logo and the spinning circle. After that the boot time would be normal (around 1 minute or 1:20). I am not running boot camp, but I do use parallels.
here is a copy of the full boot in system.log. I can't really decipher it, so I don't know how helpful it is.

  • My iphone got slow on keyboard after upgrade...  Any hints ?  Tia .

    Hi team
my iphone got slow on keyboard after upgrade...  Any hints ?  Tia .

No, I have not done a restore with no backup but I'll try (when my job will let me some time to spend for myself).
Contacts, music, calendars etc. work fine (I don't have pictures on my iPhone) but everything "feels" slow and intermittent.
I'll let you know about the complete initialization.
    cheers
