SUPER SLOW connection 3.5Mbps now down to .10 Mbps

So Saturday my internet connection just dropped pretty much to nothing .10Mbps to be exact. I called BT and was told that they were working on the exchange and I would notice a drop.  Fine atleast there is a reason for the sudden drop from 3.5 Mbps.  I was told that by Monday everything will be back the way it was.  Come Tuesday no increase in speed what so ever still getting a .10 Mbps. I have called BT multiple times and they just continue to do line tests.  I saw no change what so ever at all so I call again.  They again do a line test and say that yes something is wrong and a technician will fix it within the next 4 hours.  Well this was 24 hours ago and there has been ZERO change in DL speed. Then I am told to wait for 10 days and I will see the speed "increase".  I have still yet to see it move at all ... still .10 Mbps.  It is so slow that I can't even use BTs www.Speedtester.bt.com site it just errors our.
I was told by BT that i should be getting around 4.5 Mbps.  Since November of 2010 I have been getting 3.5.  As I know I will probably never have 4.5 Mbps I would atleast like my 3.5 Mbps back.  Nothing in my house has changed in my house at all.  When the line test was preformed I was told that everything looks "perfect" from my end.  Here is what my BT Hub looks like... Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong?

Hi Welcome Your IP Profile has dropped because of a noise issue on your line causing the exchange equipment to see your line as unstable normally the profile will rise within a period of 3/5 days providing there are no restarts on your hub all you can do is wait while the exchange equipment restores your profile

Hi all, with any luck someone here will be able to offer some wisdom!
Until recently my broadband has been faultless (well not bad anyway), in the last week or so it seems to have nosedived in terms of performance, and I am struggling to work out why. I have been through India, and I have my modem plugged into the test port of the master socket, here is wat things look like in the Hub Manager:

The three errors are me pulling the cable out to rest the conenction. The massive FEC / CRC errors are a bug I think. Does anyone know about Loss of Framing and what 0dBm output power are?
I ran the BT speedtest and got some truly terrible results, which said that my profile was 7000kbps, good, and my download was 146kbps, bad.
Anyone know what might be causing my super slow connection? I disconnected all computers barring my laptop in case somethign was secretly thrashing the service, but it didnt help.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mark.

I have similar problems. My connection was fine until about a week ago, when I started getting noise on my phone.
This has now been fixed, but since then, my Broadband connection speed has dropped from around 2M to 135k. I had an engineer out this morning to check what had been fixed during the first engineer visit (to fix the phone) and once he'd finished, he tested in to the socket to find that he could get 7M speeds. However, since he's been gone, I've plugged my setup back in and still get speeds of 135k.
I've tried removing phone connection so only router plugged in, I've changed filter to see if that was the issue - only things I've not yet tried because they are more hassle first off is trying another ADSL cable and/or a new router
My Hub manager shows the following, but not sure if this helpful to anyone, or if anyone can point me in the right direction of other things to try, I'd be greatly appreciative.

  • Super slow connection when using additional linksys SD205 router with WRT54G

    Hi there,
I have a WRT54G that distributes my cable modem's internet connection. All my wired and wireless connections work perfectly.
I recently got a Linksys SD205 5 port switch and connected it to a wired port on my WRT54G router, then connected 3 network devices to this 5 port switch (a mac running OS10.4.10, a pc running winXP SP2, and a network printer).
The problem with this setup is that my internet connection has now slowed to an absolute crawl - if it works at all.
I've tried switching cables but nothing makes a difference. Plugging directly into the WRT54G eliminates the problem - network speed goes back to normal.
What am i missing here? Shouldn't this type of setup just work? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    thanks
    Brendan

The WRT54G firmware is version 8. I just upgrade to v8.02. and now everything's working fine. thanks for reminding me to do the obvious

  • SUPER SLOW connecting with PC server

I have three G4 Power Macs that are now connecting to a Dell Poweredge 2900 PC server. Trying to open files across the network from this server is EXTREMELY slow. A PC connected to this same configuration opens the files just fine. The files to be opened are Mac originated Quark and Adobe CS2 type files and range from small (200K) to Huge (100M). Even the tiny files take a long time.
What can I do to speed the connection?
What's the best way to have Mac files on a server and also automatically backed up to this PC server's tape drive? The information on the server is (and needs to be) backed up to a tape each night.
We also have noticed that files are duplicating themselves (sometimes) when saved to this server. Any ideas on why that is happening?
Thanks so much for your help!

Are you on Tiger or an earlier version of OS X? Though most are not thrilled at the prospects of upgrading an OS, Tiger does play much better with Windows and I would recommend that OS as a minimum for connecting to a Windows environment. With that said here are some other things to try –
    - Open a ‘Terminal’ session on your Mac and check the response times between your Mac and Server <ping –s 4096 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx> where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the server IP. If your response times are greater than 2 ms then the problem could lie in your physical network. As a check I would run the same from a PC <ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx –l 4096>
    - On the file server if enabled I would turn off (temporarily) any A/V and or firewall software you may have installed. (You may want to disconnect Internet access to your network when trying this test).
    - Try/what happened when you move files between the Macs?
Also are the Macs in the Domain? Finally – I am not sure that MacDrive will solve your problem. It is primarily designed to allow PC’s to see Mac drives as Windows drives. Though I am not suggesting that it would not work I just think that your problem has more to do with server or network configuration.
One last thing I did a little checking you your Server and noticed that it is a dual NIC system. Are the NICs configured for failover? If so can you disable failover and then disable one of the NICs and see what happens? Also as this is a server I assume that the server has a static address as well? You may also want to assign your Mac static IPs as well – make sure to include both the DNS server as well as the WINS server (if installed) when configuring your IPs on the Macs.
    Hope this helps –

  • Super Slow Connection - But not My Broadband's fault... any ideas?

I just had the cable guy out who proved that I was getting 4.5 Mbps straight from the cable modem. Using my Airport express 50 feet from my iMac (20 inch intel chip) computer, however, I only get a transfer rate of 480k. What is going on? I have reset the Express base station, and have selected b and g for transmission, but there is clearly a problem. I could have full bars of signal strength, but still a insanely low transfer speed. If I can't figure this out soon I will be taking the Express back to complain... which I don't want to do because I am so happy with all of my other Apple components.

    Hi,
I've been having the same problem with my intel iMac. The real frustrating part is that I've had the AE for over a year and it worked great with my windows desktop that the iMac replaced, and continues to work well with my windows laptop. I don't think it is a reception or interference problem because the windows laptop is still faster, even when sitting next to the iMac. The reception bars are spiked and I downloaded a widget that tracts the Mbps rate of the network and that never falls below 36 Mbps, but still the surfing is very slow. I've seen several posts on this discussion board relating the same problem with the mac intels and have called tech support but no help. Anybody else have any ideas to fix the wireless connection to the iMac?
I read another post that suggested a work around type fix by getting a ethernet router and wiring the desktop to the ethernet cable and sending another cable to the AE for the laptop internet connection. I wonder if this would interfer with the other functions of the AE that I'm pleased with (bonjour printer sharing and airtunes)?

  • Super slow connection

Having problems with my system somewhere. Cable modem connected to Airport Extreme, which is connected via ethernet to my iMac. Connection speeds are painfully slow. 2.5-3MBPS. When I pull the airport from the network and wire directly to the modem, I get 16-20MBPS. All I can think of to do is to plug the imac and the airport into a switch connected to the cable modem, and split the signal before the wireless broadcast begins. Any other thoughts would be much appreciated.

I'm pretty much at a loss as to how to proceed.
I'm getting there too... some of this amounts to grasping at straws but here's what I'd do:
Turn off your iMac's Airport to avoid confusion. If your connection speed is that slow I'm wondering if it's actually connecting to a distant wireless network so just turn it off to be sure.
See what IP address your iMac is getting when connected directly to the modem. It ought to be the same address the modem would issue the Extreme. Is it? Remember to unplug the modem, thus giving it time to reset its memory first. If you don't know how to determine your iMac's IP address look at this: How do I find my Mac OS X Leopard 10.5's IP address?
Then, find out what address it has when connected to the Extreme. It ought to be supplied by the Extreme, and within its DHCP address range i.e. not "self-assigned". I don't think anything would work if that were the case anyway.
Try resetting the Extreme. Sometimes an internal parameter that you simply can't see or change using Manual Setup gets corrupted, and the only solution is to wipe the slate clean.
Have you updated its firmware? I'm not aware of any recent firmware updates that would cause this kind of behaviour but why not rule out this potential cause.
Try a different Ethernet cable. I know you're thinking that can't possibly be it but defective cables had me flummoxed more than once.
Lastly your Extreme might simply be defective. No way to confirm that without substituting another.

    Hi, JoseN33.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Try the steps in the first article below and see if that resolves your data issue.  However, with some carriers settings need to be manually entered in order to access their cellular data network.  The second article will walk you through that process.

  • Super slow computer and doesn't shut down

    Hi all,
I think it is only fair to come and share with you an issue I had with my 2011 Mac Pro runing on Lion 10.7.3. The computer is just a few months old. For a month or so I started experiencing a SUPER slow computer. To illustrate, it would slow down suddently and would take 10 minutes to give me the About this Mac info. After hard shutdown it would get normal again for a few hours. This happen usually while using Google Docs, and after trouble shooting and not getting anywhere... reseting power management (SMC), etc... Just to test I de-activated the Kaspersky Anti-Virus software for Mac, thinking that it may have been the cause while working on Google Docs... and it work!
One problem solve... but I run into another one. The computer would freeze after shuting down, and the screen would be gray with the little turning wheel... Every day from there I had to do the hard shutdown... not healthy for the computer of course... After re-installing the operating system, going back and forth with Apple Care Specialist (very helpful and nice people), and spending hours figuring the problem out... I decided to un-install completely the Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Mac, but downloading the 'free' version and using the un-installer from the package... After this my computer shuts down everytime and goes to sleep normally. This saved me from formatting the HD and doing a clean installation of Lion - which was my next step if things didn't work according to Mac support.
I still have the Kaspersky for the parallels side of the computer and that doesn't seem to be an issue. I hope this saves some people the trouble, the frustration and the MANY hours of trying to figure it what's wrong with the computer.
I have read many blogs, and articles and none of them pointed at Kaspersky... I found issues with Parallels, Office for Mac, etc but I guess after the last Lion update thing went south with the anti virus software... and of course my computer! Now we're all happy again!

Something is causing it to not shut down, more than likely some process that refuses to quit. Do all of your applications quit when you shut down or do you have to force quit any of them? You also should look in your console messages and see if perhaps there is a clue there.
When you ran Disk Utility did you get the message that the "drive appears to be o.k." or did you get some other message?
Do you have problems with freezing in general or just when you are installing applications? When you say freezes do you mean you get the spinning beachball or does it freeze and you can't do anything including moving the cursor?
Do you use a lot of widgets in Dashboard? Sometimes they will cause problems. If you have loaded any of them recently you might try removing them and see if that helps with the shutdown issue.

  • I experienced the same prob with Yosemite where my screen went black on startup. I was able to "fix" it and log into my qccount but my mac is running super slow now even just at simple clicks and commands. How can I fix this? Help please!

I updated to Yosemite and everything worked great for a few days until earlier. My mac was plugged to my TV via HDMI wen everything hanged. I did a hard reset and the screen was just black during startup. There were the startup sounds but no images from the screen. it did have images at one point where it gave me options to reset my password. I did a couple of hard reboots and pressed Alt/Option or Cmd+Option+P+R based on previous posts. Didnt know which w but I was able to access my account and log in. My big problem right now is that my Mac became super slow. Even at the simple commands/clicks

My mac was okay up until a few hours ago. If anyone knows how to fix this, would really appreciate your help. Thank you!

One possibility is that you may need to "Upgrade" your Cable /DSL Modem if you have an older unit.  ISP's that provide your Internet service in recent years have been switching over from DOCSIS 2.1 version Modems to DOCSIS 3.0 version Modems, which handle the new higher data streaming speeds the ISP's are offering.  I would suggest you call your ISP's Technical Support and inquire about this possibility.

  • 4G connection super slow with freedome

My internet connection is super slow with freedome. Normally without VPN I get 50Mdown and 10Mup, but with freedome I get only about 8Mdown and 10Mup. My ping is still pretty nice 35ms with your service. (normally I have 25ms ping) I use 4G USB tethered internet from motorola moto E phone. I already tried and they did nothing or made it worse: Tested many other servers/location, Disable firewall and other security applications, Reinstall windows (I had to do it anyway in near future), Made speed tests at different times and many times. I just made a year subcription for your service and atm your service is unusable for me.

    Hello The_Monkey,
Sorry for not getting back to you earlier. Do you still observe  speed issues?
Note that any VPN Application will lower connection speed. Also tethering isn't supported with Freedome.

  • I just updated my iPad an now it I s super slow...

I just updated my iPad an now it is super slow, I lost all my music, and it keeps stopping whatever I was currently doing an goes back the the home screen. what is u, and how do I fix it?

There are a few things that you could try for the apps abending. First try closing all apps via the taskbar and then see if they work ok when you re-open them : from the home screen (i.e. not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A second option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
If you have iCloud enabled on the iPad in Settings > iCloud then turning it off might also help (but see if the above two things help first).
In terms of your music, is it not on your computer's iTunes ? Music isn't included in a backup so for the update/restore process to be able to copy it back to your iPad it needs it be on the computer's iTunes that you used to update via. If they are iTunes purchased music and you don't have them on your computer or on a backup, then depending upon which country that you are in you might be able to re-download them from the store : re-downloading.
