welcome to the forum
in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run btspeedtester (MAC users may have problems) http://speedtester.bt.com or http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9354/c/346,4740,5520 and post the results .
are you connected directly to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • Unable to connect / super slow speed WiFi

Ok I am pretty good with all this stuff but I am totally stuck here :-(
What it comes down to is that I cannot connect Wirelessly to the Airport Extreme.
Wired everything works fine. But wireless the speed is terrebly slow and connection dorps and/or times out.
Here is a list of what I did so far:
Updated and restored the software multiple times...
Restored the software from 2nd MB pro
Did complete restore (couple of times!)
Reset all network settings in the MB Pro
Flushed DNS cash in the MB Pro
2nd laptop has the same problem
    iPhone can connect just fine!!!!
Verified hat the signal is clear on the channel.
Tested with and without the WPA/WPA2 Personal security
    Tested with a fixed channel
Moved Airport elsewhere in the house (MB is sitting very close the the Airport Extreme....)
    Replaced the Airport
One MB is on 10.6.8 (reloaded the combo update as well) The other MB Pro is 10.7.2
Any imput is greatly appriciated !!!!
    Rogier

Both machines have the same problem. Strangely enough my iPhone 4 connects just fine!
The problem must be in the Airport Extreme that we already have replaced after I first tought that the Airpot card inside that unit had failed....

  • Super Slow speeds and extremely high latency

This is my last attempt with Verizon high speed DSL (the only service they offer here). I have been dealing with them for months about my slow connection speeds and high latency. Finally, after a new modem, supposed line monitoring and a two tech visits the last tech found noise in the line and fixed some of my issue. Now my speed and pings are good EXCEPT during peak hours (M-F 12 pm -1 pm, 3 pm - 7 pm and Friday and Saturday 7-11 pm). During these times m Internet becomes completely unusable with download speeds of 0.25 MBps and pings over 400 ms and today I had a pint of 1713 ms!!! Clearly there is an issue here.

    Hi schichler,
Your issue has been escalated to a Verizon agent. Before the agent can begin assisting you, they will need to collect further information from you. • Super slow speed, and for once its not my ISP's fault.....

    Hello friends,
I have the WRTG v6 router and have had no problems with it until the last few days.  Suddenly my connection has become very slow and I am no longer able to play my xbox online without going straight through the modem.  I thought that it may be my ISP, but when I hook up directly to the modem and do a speed test everything is perfect.  I also thought that maybe the computers had some spyware that was slowing things down, but even with both computers powered down the online gaming was still lagging.  So what gives?  Is there a setting somewhere in the router that is slowing things down?   Any info at all is greatly appreciated.

same thing to me, so slow... i regret why i bought  this router. i got no help what so ever

  • Super Slow Speed

    Hi,
We were having slow broadband speeds, under 1mb/s. After awaiting for a fix for weeks, I finally rang BT to leave them, I was then advised to try an Infinity package. I decided to try it out and took BT Infinity 2.
After the engineer had been, we were getting 16mb/s (not as fast as I wasexpecting, though hey ho.) it was not used again until the next day when the speed had dropped to under 0.5mb/s.
I rang BT who went through the usual line check e.t.c. they said I would have to await a call from some team.
That call never came so today I rang again, I was told some excuse I could not comprehend and I am now awiting a call from the same team.
Really not happy, using speedtest my ping is sky high at 454ms and rising to over a thousand. Download speeds down to 0.19 never rising above 1mb/s.
I am glad I looked here as it seemsmany are having poor speed problems, although not given much confidence when I see the length of time people are having these wors for.
I have tried the disconnect and reconnect from homehub trick, did not do a sausage for me.

Hi, thanks for the replies b.t.w.
Right I have connected via ethernet and re-run the test. Also I went to the further diagnostics, installed the java and it completed the test, only I did not screen save it as I tried to go to the next step. (i could not work out how to change my username on the HH.) I have run the test countless times again, to try and get the further diagnostics, though it keeps giving me an error now and to try again later.
Here is a SS of the basic speed test. Every one comes out with a DL speed of 1.90 or 1.91 now. I will try and get it to run the further diagnostics again. To clarify it was the next step you wanted the info for and not the step after which i have to change the username for? Cheers.

  • Super Slow DSL Speeds

I have been without internet for a week.  Verizon finally fixed the problem yesterday afternoon and my internet service was restored but now I have super slow DSL speeds.  0.36 dowload & 0.54upload.
I am tired of calling tech support and being told to reboot my computer, modem, yadda yadda.  There is something else going on here and need to figure out if it is with the modem itself or the line.  All the line tests the tech support people have done come back normal.
The modem is reporting the OAM ping test as failing in Far End F4 Loop Back Count & Near End F4 Loop Back Count.  No idea what that means.....
The speed from the modem itself is listed as:
    Speed(Down/Up):
    416 / 640 Kbps
I've done ipconfig flush dns, ipconfig release, ipconfig renew, etc etc.  In home agent is reporting a problem with the dsl signal and just instructs me to reset the modem which does not help.
The modem is old, GT704WG from verizon.  I am thinking about going out and buying a new one but don't want to do that if it is not going to fix the problem.  It just seems odd that last week internet speed was fine and now it is slow as hell.
I had no internet or phone this week which they are claiming it was due to a line being pinched when my house was re-stuccod in December(granted internet and phone worked fine up until last Sunday).  Verizon went under the house and fixed the line, phone & internet came back on.  When I logged onto the browser I was prompted to activate my verizon service( I guess because it had been out for a week).  Did that, got onto websites but connection is extermely slow and I am at my wits end.
I've spent more time on the phone this week with the unhelpful verizon people then I spend all year talking to my relatives and I really don't want to call them back and sit on the phone for another 45 min to an hour.
Anything I can do to diagnose and possibly fix this?

I appreciate you taking the time to answer my post, however your tools do nothing to tell me what is going on nor am I going to schedule yet another repair.
This past week when I had a "repair" scheduled, I was told they would be out on wednesday to fix our problem.  No time frame was given for when this repair would take place.  My retired father waited at the house the entire day only to have the repair man show up at 4:30pm who told us it was too late in the day to wait 5 min for us to move some boxes out of the closet that were over our crawl space so he could go under the house and fix the damaged wire.  Instead he ran a long phone line from our box to our kitchen phone, told us this was a temporary solution and that if we called the repair center in the morning someone would come out in the morning and fix it.
We called in the morning, only again to be given no time frame for the repair.  My father again waited all day, this time no one showed up.  Even after he called 3 x's that day trying to get information on when the tech would be there....
Finally on Friday after spending another entire day waiting for a repair man did one show up around 3 in the afternoon one did, he went under the house and fixed the wire and our phone service was finally restored after 4 days.  The dsl finally came back on albeit at a super slow speed as I am experiencing now.
Right now I am currently calling around to get rate quotes from other providers for our phone, internet, tv, & wireless.  My experience with your "customer support" has soured me to verizon even though I have been with you guys for 10 plus years.  I don't want to spend one more day waiting for  repair man who may or may not show up.  I don't want to spend another hour to hour and a half on the phone with some man in India who is just going to ask me to reboot my pc and modem over and over again and run a "line test" which is the same thing your automated phone service asks you to do as well.
Your company just doesn't get it when it comes to customer service.  I pay my bill every month on time and in the 10 plus years I've been with you this is one of three times I've called for support.  Each time I've had a horrible experience and the only thing that has kept me with you is that most of the time the service works as it should.  I have heard FIOS is relatively trouble free, at least in my neighborhood, which is the only reason I am still considering the upgrade but if I do find a more reasonable deal with a company that has a better record for customer service I will be cancelling my order.  I have a few weeks left to decide.  It's unfortunate too because there are some nice folks that work at verizon but your company philosophy towards customer service has changed the bigger you've gottena and you've lost touch with what your customer's need from you.

  • Help wanted re "sudden super-slowing".

    Dear all,
I was doing a daily routine - writing and printing of MS Word Docs. I selected about 7 docs (each was one or two pages) and tried to open (Command + O) them simultaneously. I was using no ther apps. RAM 1GB; 4.7 GB HDD left out of 80GB.
It seemed that MS was openg them in SUPER SLOW speed!. Only the outline of MS Word doc frame showed but not the doc itself. Then Word was not responding at CommandOptionesc.
I have force quit OS by pressing CommandShiftPower. Then EVERYTHING has gone wrong. Booting itself took more than 15 min! On top of it, opening a folder took more than 2 min! I can't do anything.....
I have tried to investigate it in a FireWire Disk Mode booted up from my iBook. I could access all the files but nothing more to do. DiskUtility has failed to mount its HDD to repair.
I have tried to reinstall OS using Tiger 10.4 Updater Disk but failed. It read '...eror occured...try again' on top of the dialogue box.
What has gone wrong? Is there anything I can do?
I'm in hurry cause I need to finish something before deadline.
    Please help!
    Regards,
    JH

    Dear JH,
You may have already read this link, but I am including it just in case.
    Data recovery
I have no experience with ProSoft's Data Rescue II, other third party recovery utilities, or professional data recovery services and am unable to offer first - hand advice to help you in those areas.
    For your consideration:
    1. If you indeed have both a mechanical problem as well as problems from an over - full hard drive — and if your data is important enough — play it safe and see what the professionals can do. The main pages for both DriveSavers and Data Savers indicate that if they cannot recover your data there is no charge.
    2. If your budget or deadline does not allow you to send the drive to a professional, then you will have to do your best on your own using a third party utility and another drive which is large enough to hold your data without getting too full.
You wrote in your first post: "I have tried to investigate it in a FireWire Disk Mode booted up from my iBook. I could access all the files but nothing more to do."
Are you no longer able to mount the drive as the target disk?
Do you have older versions of your data in your backups which you can use to begin re - creating your work?
Do you have hard copies which can be manually re - created or scanned to get you back on track?
    Sincerely,
    No Alibi.

  • DVDRW Read Speed SUPER SLOW?!?!?!?!

ive tried multiple discs. cdr's, dvd+-R's, all sorts of stuff.
i get a constant transfer rate of 2MB/s from dvd to HD. this seems super slow. my macbook gets around 11-12MB/s
something funny. i have a fw400 case with a 5.25 dvdrw drive in it. when i connect it into the macbookpro, it also goes as slow. when i connect it into the MB, it speeds up.
anytime i try to copy data off a disc, it never seems like it spins up to what it "can"
    help!!!

Same with mine.. started about the same time... live in Southern Illinois....   I'm on my 2nd 7500 modem and it still reports 3+meg down/800 up.... speednet.net  ranges anywhere from 800k - 2.6m down most of the time hovering around 1.6...   just spent an hour on the phone with some guy from India.. for the 2nd time doing everything the first guy did...
Why don't they understand that I have 3 computers plus an Ipod touch that ALL get the same LOW speeds... the problem is not with windows!!!!!.. if the modem is indeed processing 3meg down.. then something is wrong in the transmission from modem to computer... I would think something with modulation/de-modulation... maybe???
I get same speeds no matter if on wire or wireless...
I've reset everything probably about 30 times now.
I've checked it with 3 different phone cords.
Level 3 tech is supposed to call back tonight?? weird.. we'll see.
I WILL BE ASKING FOR REPAIRATIONS.. I'm not paying for 1.6 meg down..

  • Super Slow Connection speed

Hi all, with any luck someone here will be able to offer some wisdom!
Until recently my broadband has been faultless (well not bad anyway), in the last week or so it seems to have nosedived in terms of performance, and I am struggling to work out why. I have been through India, and I have my modem plugged into the test port of the master socket, here is wat things look like in the Hub Manager:
    Line state
    Connected
    Connection time
    0 days, 0:53:56
    Downstream
    8,126 Kbps
    Upstream

    Latency type

    Noise margin (Down/Up)
    20.3 dB / 32.9 dB
    Line attenuation (Down/Up)
    10.0 dB / 4.2 dB
    Output power (Down/Up)
    0.0 dBm / 12.0 dBm

    0 / 2147480000
    HEC Errors (Down/Up)
    nil / 0
    Error Seconds (Local)
    3
The three errors are me pulling the cable out to rest the conenction. The massive FEC / CRC errors are a bug I think. Does anyone know about Loss of Framing and what 0dBm output power are?
I ran the BT speedtest and got some truly terrible results, which said that my profile was 7000kbps, good, and my download was 146kbps, bad.
Anyone know what might be causing my super slow connection? I disconnected all computers barring my laptop in case somethign was secretly thrashing the service, but it didnt help.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mark.

I have similar problems. My connection was fine until about a week ago, when I started getting noise on my phone.
This has now been fixed, but since then, my Broadband connection speed has dropped from around 2M to 135k. I had an engineer out this morning to check what had been fixed during the first engineer visit (to fix the phone) and once he'd finished, he tested in to the socket to find that he could get 7M speeds. However, since he's been gone, I've plugged my setup back in and still get speeds of 135k.
I've tried removing phone connection so only router plugged in, I've changed filter to see if that was the issue - only things I've not yet tried because they are more hassle first off is trying another ADSL cable and/or a new router
My Hub manager shows the following, but not sure if this helpful to anyone, or if anyone can point me in the right direction of other things to try, I'd be greatly appreciative.

  • WIFI loading speed is super slow, please help.

    Hi there.
I just got my first apple laptop and it seems that i have problem i can't solve. I have pretty good broadband but my macs downloading speed is super slow, i called support, the guy on the other side told me something i could do, but most of it didn't work. Apparently my friends laptop has downloading speed over 400 Kb/s while mine is just 10Kb/s, well it seems unfair, since we pay equally for internet and he uses most of it.
Could anyone suggest what is wrong, because i have pretty good feeling that there is some mystery.
    Thanks in advance.

I too have serious issues concerning the speed of networkconnnections when connecting via airport on my MBA.
I cannot specify the exact moment when it started but i think it was directly or short after the last firmware update when surfing or in fact anything that needs a networkconnection started to become reeaaally slow.
what happens is that it takes up to 45 seconds for a website to start loading or mails to load. even widgets like weather need forever to get a connection.
the funny thing is that once the initial connection is established (like a youtube video starting to load) the speed is ok again but sometimes it takes so long to start with loading that i get timeouts on pages that never had a problem before.
at first i figured that it was a problem with my internet provider (which it is not since the imac and ibook my husband uses over the same airport extreme basstation are superfast) then i thought it had something to do with the browser or java and started to re-install all of them
but 10 days ago i had to buy the ethernet usb adapter since i was working somewhere that had no WLAN and with the ethernet network connection the speed is there. its only when i need to connect to a wifi network (and i tried various ones, airport and other WiFi networks) that i have this veeeery annoying speed dump..
    any suggestions?

  • Lion is super slow! Should I reinstall?

    Hi,
I have a 13” MacBook Pro that has a 2.7GHz i7 processor and 4GB of RAM. I bought this June at it came pre-installed with OS X Snow Leopard. In July, I upgraded to Lion and initially, my computer just had the spinning beach ball a lot more, but a day or two later, my computer seemed like it was running as normal (I’m assuming this was due to Spotlight indexing everything).
However, of late I’ve noticed my computer is SUPER slow! I first noticed the lag in processing speed when it took five minutes to transfer 1GB to a USB flash drive. (I then transferred the files to a Windows PC and back onto the same flash drive and the entire process occurred in under a minute). It takes over two minutes to start up and anywhere between ten seconds to a minute to open a regular application (i.e. iTunes, iPhoto, Firefox, etc). And my laptop heats up a lot faster these days too!
I’ve looked around the discussion forum and tried all the suggested solutions i.e. resetting the PRAM and the SMC, verifying and repairing the disk/permissions (including the one where you have to go through the recovery partition). But nothing has helped. If anything, it's getting worse! Every time I open disk utility now it says it’ll take 4 hours to verify the disk permissions! AHHH. And it’s not like my laptop is filled with useless files, either; my hard drive capacity is 500GB and it still has 372.7GB available. Oh, and I don’t have a virus either because I’ve run the Sophos anti-virus scan three times.
Normally, I’d have taken my laptop to the Apple Store and asked them to figure it out, but I’m currently in the Philippines and they only have Apple Resellers and fake Apple Stores here. I realise it sounds ridiculous but I’m deathly afraid they are either going to kill my MBP altogether or steal my parts.
I was wondering should I completely re-install Lion? If so, how exactly would I go about doing that? I do have a Time Machine back-up of everything on my 1TB external drive, but I don’t have any back-ups prior to getting Lion because I purchased my external later. Also, if I were to re-install Lion and restore from my Time Machine back-up would all my applications still work? I have Microsoft Office 201, Adobe Pro, Photoshop, etc. and if they get uninstalled, I don’t have any of my installation CDs here!
I’d appreciate any help! If you have any ideas, comments, suggestions, anything – shoot me a response. Thank you!

Try to find out what is causing the loss of performance by starting the "Activity Monitor" (from Applications -> Utilities) and sort the processes according to real memory usage or CPU time by clicking at the column headers.
Also have a look at the free Disk space.
According to Apple the minimum hardware requirements for Lion are 2GB of RAM, but I found that not to be sufficient with the Applications I like to be running at the same time. For my workflow I needed 4 GB RAM when on SL, and with Lion I needed 8GB of RAM. The Activity monitor will tell you if you need to upgrade your RAM.
The second bottleneck with Lion is free disk space. Lion will run much more smoothly if you keep a least 10% (and a minimum of 20 GB) of your disk free.
If you find that you do need more RAM, but don't want to upgrade right now, look at the "Activity monitor" to find out which of your processes are fighting for memory and try to avoid running those together at the same time. I found that quite often Safari was eating the available memory and quitting Safari when I did not really need it did help a lot.

    Léonie

  • Wireless on My New MBP super slow

Hi everyone, I just bought a shiny new 15" Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.2, love it except my wireless is super slow when using it on my home network. I know I'm not the first to complain of this and that there are plenty of other threads about it, but I've tried some of the solutions on those thread to no avail. So I'm starting my own, can someone please help, I'm dangerously close to doing something irrational to my MBP. Ok here's a breakdown of my problem:
    -I'm using a Belkin pre N1 router.
-I pay for 10mbs but I'm getting .5mbs using Airport but if I plug in the ethernet I achieve around 9mbs
    -Airport shows a full signal
-My old IMac runs like a stallion on my network using Airport, so does my roommates Vista machine both getting around 8.5mbs
-I've made sure my IMac's and Macbook Pro settings are the same
-I've tried using an open dns, didn't work
-I've change my router from using a WEP to using a WPA, didn't work
-I've tried changing the broadcast signal from 11N/G to just 11N to 11N/G/B to 11G/B to 11B back to 11N/G, when I broadcasted just N wireless speed jump all the way up to 8mbs hooraay!!! until I quit safari and opened it again wireless speed went back to .5mps
-I've tried using every wireless channel 1-11 plus Auto, Again wireless speed jump all the way up to 8mbs hooraay!!! until I quit safari and opened it again wireless speed went back to .5mps
-I've tried doing a special little dance in front of it, didn't work except to make me ready to drop it like its hot this Saturday!!!
Nothing seems to work. I'm making a Apple genus appointment tomorrow but I have a sneaky feeling that it will be fine on their network and they'll tell me it's belkins problem. Which could be the case but why would my IMac and Vista computers work flawless and not my new MacBook. Please, please, please help. Theres plenty of praise for whomever can solve my problem and I can praise like no other. Thanks
    -Jerry-

yup, same here. Brand new, Core i7 Macbook Pro, and my 13" White Core Duo (not even C2D) Macbook kicks its a** on Airport. What's up with that????
I've tried all the previous "fixes" I could find -- wipe and re-install, delete and replace AirPort entry in Network panel, new Location in Network panel, and so on. This is pretty bad... I haven't tried different DNS yet, but I don't see why the DNS should make any difference when my Mac Pro and the old Macbook seem fine with the servers from my ISP.
