Super small JRE's without resorting to J2ME?

Is anyone out here aware of a JRE that has a very small memory footprint other than the Skelmir kit? I've nothing against Skelmir other than the JRE that they have is based on 1.1.8 and I'd like something that was at least 1.4.x. The Sun/IBM JRE's are pretty huge in comparison to Skelmirs (albeit because of the version of Java Skelmir have implemented and some of the corners they've cut), but I can't believe that they're the only people to have created a cut down JRE., so are there any 1.4.x JREs are out there that can run in under 7-8MB?

Did you try to right-click in the Flash player area to see if you can restore the full size?

Hi Eli,
You cannot place text outside the document margins without placing that text into a shape or a text box. Objects, including text boxes and the text they contain, may be placed outside the margins.
Jerry's solution involves moving the left document margin closer to the edge of the table. As you've seen, doing so also adds cmplications to managing text behaviour on the left side of the page.
Here's a variation on Jerry's suggestion that may be easier to manage:
In the Document Inspector, set the left margin to the position at which you want the keyword headings to begin. (0.5")
In the Layout Inspector, set the left margin to make the document margin + this layout margin equal to the position you want for the 'regular' margin fo the body of your document. (0.5" to give the default 1" body margin).
Assuming there is text before the first Keywordheading:
Click immediately after that text, press return to insert a paragraph break, then go Insert > Layout Break to insert a Layout break.
Type the single 'word' "Keywordheading" (without the quotes, and with no spaces), followed by a return, then go Insert > Layout Break to insert a second layout break.
Double click Keywordheading to select it.
Apply any formatting you want (I used a two point larger font size and Bold) for the heading.
In the Layout inspector, set the left margin to zero.
You now have a 'master copy' for your keyword heading, which can be copied, then pasted to each location you want this type of heading to appear.
Select the first Layout Break, the line with 'Keywordheading', and the second Layout break, as shown in the image.
Copy.
Click immediately after the text preceding the next Keyword heading.
Press return, then Paste.
Repeat as needed.
If you have alrady entered the text for these headings, you can use these steps to move them into the keyword heading spaces:
For each heading:
Select the words that make up the heading. Cut (command-X)
Doubleclick 'Keywordheading'. Go Edit > Paste and Match Style.
Repeat for next heading.
If you have not yet entered the text for these headings:
Doubleclick 'Keywordheading' to select it.
Type the heading.
Repeat.
Note that after inserting these heaings, you can copy the three lines (Layout break, word(s)&return, Layout break) of any of them, then replace the text of that heading with the text of a new heading.
Within the indented parts between headings, bulleted lists will behave normally.

I mean, second to creating or finding a share, isn't this what most users would be after?

My imported footage is coming up super small . HELP!!!

I recently purchased a new Vista 64 Hp and Adobe CS4 for the school I teach at. I teach a video production class to junior high school kids. We were using Premiere Pro 1.5 before. When I capture video or import clips on CS4, the size of the video is super small in the monitor and I find that every clip has a red line over it in the timeline indicating that I need to render something. Do I have to convert the size of each clip. In 1.5, I just imported it and it fit perfectly. What do I do?? Thanks.

Create a new sequence using the correct DV preset then capture some footage from your DV camcorder. When you put it on the timeline you will see it fill the monitor and will have a green line above it.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Restoring your device is the solution for this issue, but if a backup was made you can also use that after the restore. This article provides details on how to go about this:

Linux jre swing without X11

I am looking for a linux jre (swing) environment that can draw into a display without the use of X11.
The java JRE will be the only user of the display and is the sole manager of the resource.
The reason for it is to keep the disk and memory footprint small (it is for embedded).
If nothing is available around, does anybody have a feeling if this is something that can reasonably be done without ending up with something that is equivalent in size and complexity to a X11 environment ?

The alternative is to use a small-footprint X server like "Tiny-X".

Save Small file PDF without Pixelation in Illustrator cs4

I need to send a small file size PDF proof to a client via email. But When i resample is to descrease the file size it becomes pixelated. Is there anyway to decrease the file size without sacrificing the picture quality through Adobe Cs4?

In order to produce a smaller PDF file in Illustrator (or any other app) you have to lower the images quality, assuming you are using images (as you mention pixelation). The option to compress text and line art artwork already comes activated by default, so that leaves you with the settings for color and greyscale images. You have two different settings, resolution (PPI ) and Jpeg compression level (Image Quality). If the file is meant to be viewed on the screen only up to 100% size, you can lower the resolution to 100 ppi, if it is going to be printed in an office printer, you need at least 150 ppi on the images. On the Jpeg compression level (Image Quality) I never go bellow "Medium" because the Jpeg compression artifacts get too visible (depending on the images, sometimes even Medium gets a little noisy). If with these settings the file still is to big (assuming you have turned off the "Preserve Illustrator Editing capabilities" option already) you have two choices: If it is a multipage file, split the file into several PDF files with a few pages each and send those in separate mails. Or, if it is a single page file, subscribe to a free online storage account (e.g. Sugarsync.com) and upload the file there and send a link of the file to the client so that he can download it from his computer (I always do).

Web page super small

I am wondering why internet pages don't fill the whole screen. I have stretched my internet from the bottom right corner so that it takes up the whole 17" screen, but all the web content stays super tight in the center. It just seems so small and is kindof annoying that I have to squint sometimes to see the font!
Any idea on how to maximize the web content to fill the whole screen??

In Safari you can set the size and type of Font used for most web page displays, open Safari/Preferences/Appearance then click 'Select' next to Standard width Font and choose something that suits you better.
Or, open-pinch the screen laterally and it will enlarge everything.

Adobe Flash games and buttons super small in Firefox

I recently got a new computer and I've noticed certain Adobe Flash games or other features of Adobe Flash don't load to the proper size that they used to. There is room on the screen to be bigger but it just looks like the game or features have shrunk.
I am running Windows 8.1 and have the latest versions of both Firefox and Adobe Flash. I've tried going back to past versions of FF and Flash; hasn't worked. I tried FF in Safe Mode and resetting it but those didn't work either. They worked fine on my previous computer (5 years older and running Windows Vista). I also tried resizing the pages but the games/images stay small in proportion to the resizing. I have loaded the same problem pages/games in Chrome and IE without the errors reoccurring so there has to be some combo of problems between FF and Flash. On another note... not every game running has this problem. x_x

Ps CC super small text

I just downloaded photoshop cc, everything works fine except 1 thing, when i add a text, the size is super duper small, so small you can't even see what letter it is. I tried to max the size to max but nothing happens, please help me

Did you create a new document to do this (as opposed to using an existing photograph)? If yes,, have a look at the image size (Ctrl Alt i). If you have created a huge document - many thousands of pixels on each side - then that would cause the default text size to appear tiny. Especially if you have used a low dpi setting like 72dpi. If this is so, then either start again with more sensible image size, or open the Image size dialogue box > turn off resample > and change the dpi setting to something _much_ higher like 300dpi.

JRE installation without JDK

I am using 9i AS on Solaris 8 as application server for J2EE application development. In production server, is it possible to install JRE alone so that I can run the deployment files without JDK.

I don't know about that application server, but many application servers need a JDK in order to run. The JDK is used to compile jsp-pages etc.

Why does Apple support print those "Hello" booklets that came with my new iMac in super small fonts?

Yesterday I purchased the latest available 27inch iMac from my local Apple only dealer.     ( It sure beats my very first Mac which was an LC520. )
The included in the box printed quick start guide named "Hello" was printed using a font size very close to zero.
Who are these people at Apple support that can read such small fonts with using 20X powered magnifying lenses

I think it's a point worth making. It is virtually unreadable.
On reflection, I'm wondering if there is an obligation in some countries to provide such information with a device.   This could be Apple's way of complying while spending the absolute minimum.

want a code that will check for such condition and install JRE automatically.
If JRE is already present then it should check for required version and enable it also.

The ability to detect the jre at the update level, as well as the ability to install a specific version are only present if the DT plugins are installed.
These plugins only exist for windows and are only part of the 6u10 (1.6.0_10) versions of java.
The javascript you show uses an undefined minimumVersion variable.
also note, you cannot use the wildcard '1.5.0*' in the call to isWebStartInstalled (which takes minimumVersion arg)
if fixed, this code would still not work as you want, since clients with 1.6.0 or later would sail straight thru and launch.
I suggest replacing isWebStartInstalled() with deployJava.versionCheck('1.5.0*') .
then on systems with the plugin installed, if no 1.5.0* version is installed, the latest 1.5.0_XX will be installed before launching the app.
(assuming the app has also <j2se version=1.5/> or equiv.)
on systems w/o plugins installed, the latest version of java will be installed, and it will be up to javaws auto download to get 1.5.0* version.
this could still have problems, especially on platforms not supporting the plugins (non-windows) , since code keeps checking for '1.5.0*', and installing only latest, so you would want to wrap install with something to prevent repeated attempts to install:

But Fireworks is still super tiny~

No, unfortunately retina updates for Fireworks are never going to happen - it is a discontinued product (although it is still available) that will no longer receive any updates (since May 2013).
