SuperDrive Ejects DVD Mixed Media Disk, Plays All Others

I just got a training course of 5 DVD's. None of them will play in my Mac Pro Optiarc SuperDrive.
All other DVD's I own (File & Video) play just fine on it.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you.
OPTIARC DVD RW AD-7170A:
Firmware Revision: 1.N8
Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
Cache: 2048 KB
Reads DVD: Yes
CD-Write: -R, -RW
DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO

Hi
Yes this often is reported:
a. As Shippy writes
b. More often: DVD-stand alone players has a strong error-correcting mechanism(program) that
makes it more tolerant than Your eMac
To get a better result You can try this:
• Burn at an lower speed. - This can't be set in iDVD and in version 4 one needs to do a hack to open
the function that enables it to maka a DiskImage (a simulated DVD on Your hard disk)
FIND: Hurz and Pfurz" on http://homepage.mac.com/geerlingguy/macsupport/mac_help/pages/15-burn_idvdother.html
and follow the instruction
Now after install and You figured out howto make Your DiskImage. Use this DI together with
Apple Disk Util tool and burn Your DVD at x1 speed. => Less ERRORS
(I use Roxio Toast™ to do this - easier and can back convert DVDs to iMovie)
• Use Verbatim DVD-R disks - I do - High quality gives a better result.
alt - upgrade iDVD to 5 or 6 = DiskImage under File menu
alt - upgrade to iDVD 7 (iLife08) and You can set burn speed and don't need the DiskImage.

how to get mac dvd player not to play all and stop at each title

    Play all chapters, i mean.
I have a DVD and I would like to just play a chapter, and discuss it, without the next chapter automatically starting. Usually DVD players have the "Play all" you can turn off and on...but I don't see it with the Mac player.

  • SuperDrive ejects DVD movie disc after scanning

    Hi,
Recently I purchased a few new DVD movie titles. However when I insert the new disc into my iMac's SuperDrive, it scans it (making some noise) and after a while ejects it.
I understand that these new DVD movie discs could be copy protected. However if this is so then this does not allow me to make backup copies of them.
Eventually I bought a DVD player, and I could play all the DVD purchased.
Is there a way I could make my iMac read these discs and make backup copies of them?
    Thanks.
    Best regards,
    Jude.

    Hi Jude,
I'm having the same problems... the drive makes a grinding noise and then rejects the discs. I also own all the DVD's so there shouldn't be any copyright issues. It just seems like the drive has died, but I just bought the computer last September... that seems awfully fast for a drive to die even with my considerable usage. Did you find anything out to fix? Afraid I'll have to get it serviced soon.
    Regards,
    L.

  • DVD player ejects dvds and won't play

i upgraded to snow leopard and added memory to my macbook and now the dvd player just ejects dvd's. not sure if it's related. help please!

Did you use the retail 10.6 installer that looks like .  If not, then you used the wrong disc and only that disc will install properly.

  • Blu-ray optical drive no longer plays Blu-ray discs. Will play all other discs

I have a HP Pavilion Elite hpe-510y desktop pc. HP product # bv538aa#aba.  Optical drive has stopped playing and recognizing Blu-ray discs. All other discs play fine. I didn't notice this problem for awhile because I don't always play Blu-ray discs on my PC. I don't know if their was an update or if the optical drive has just gone bad. I am not sure if its a hardware or software problem. Has anyone else had this problem with this model. Would appreciate any help you can give me in this matter. Thank You. Dennis

    Dennis, welcome to the forum.
I suggest uninstalling the drive.  You can do this by going into Control Panel / Device Manager / DVD/CD-ROM drives.  Right click on your drive and select "Uninstall".  Then, reboot the computer.  Windows will indentify it and reinstall it.
Please click the "Thumbs up + button" if I have helped you and click "Accept as Solution" if your problem is solved.

  • After I burn a dvd it won't play in other players?

After I burn a dvd on my Mac, why won't it play in other players?

first, you might have better luck in the correct forum. this is for Mac Pro's
    here's the one you want
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/notebooks/macbook_pro
Do you want to burn a data DVD or a Movie DVD? If it's the 2nd one, then get iDVD or another movie dvd making application. Most computers don't have that capability
"naturally", you have to go out and get something that'll let you do that

  • 1 DV Movie Won't Play - - All other DV Movies Play Fine

Okay, so my DV Movie files play video and audio in iMovie 9 - - except one of them which does NOT play the audio track.
All of the DV Movies play video and audio in Quicktime so I know the audio is there, but iMovie doesn't play / recognize the audio track.
What else can I do to make this audio track play in iMovie?

    John:
You can get that using Stories. Check this Stories Tutorial (from www.kenstone.net).
You'll get your Chapters and Play All buttons working fine.

  • One very long song/album wont play, all others do.

    Howdy:
I have only two playlists on my iPod, both sync automatically. I purchased a long (64 minutes) Ocean Sounds track from iTunes. It is in one of the playlists, but gets skipped over and will not play. All other songs in the playlist play.
I have rest the iPod, deauthorized and reathourized the account, ensured both iPod and iTunes are completely up to date. I did read somewhere about long file names on songs, and this one did seem to be extra long, so I renamed it. Basically I've tried standard troubleshooting.
Any ideas or hints as to how to get this one to play on my iPod?

Is this the only song that does this? If so, it may be corrupted so try downloading it again.

  • I downloaded an album from itunes.  Keeps playing the first song.  Still plays all other previous tracks.  How do I get it to jump to the other songs on the album.

How do I get my Shuffle to stop playing the first song over and over again, from an album I just purchased?
Will not play any other songs from the album.

Jim, wanted to let you know it worked.  I deleted the entire album since it was an album only (26 minutes long) song, then I went to the home icon of iTunes store, clicked on purchased and saw previous purchases and bam, I downloaded the album again and it now works!!!  Thanks..

  • ITunes files missing in Media Browser for all other apps

I've read many and posted a couple times about this issue, but new information has come to light, so I figured I'd give it one more shot.
Somewhere along the line from migrating from 2007 MacBook to my newer 2010 iMac, I've lost the ability to see my iTunes files in other apps in the media browser.  This is very specific to the user that my main library (237gb).  I've got a separate library on a different user account, no issues there.  It happens in all of the iLife apps(like trying to add music to a slideshow), iWork apps (clicking on media), Mail (attaching a .mp3).  Oddly enough, Audacity has no issue seeing the iTunes files.  I've tried several solutions, including re-installing the Media Browser, and trashing the .xml file (Apple's own solution found here). Nothing worked.  I had hoped the release of Lion might fix the problem, and I upgraded "the Apple way."  The problem persisted.
I had thought perhaps the issue lied from carring over old code, apps, or whatever from the migration.  I had hoped doing a clean install of Lion might do the trick.  I finally got an external to move the library too, and do a very manual migration.  Copied all documents and media to the external, boot from the Lion Boot CD I created before upgrading the 1st time, reformat drive, install Lion.  It went off without a hitch.  I made sure to copy all of the database files (.xml, .itl), and while all of my settings, playlists, and play counts were preserved (something that is important to me), the same problem reared it's head.
Another idea came was to start a new user account, and just use the media files, and not the database files.  After simply dragging the media folder into iTunes and copying the files (the drobo has plenty of space), it worked perfectly.  Except I had lost all of my play counts, settings, and playlists.
So the question is, is there a solution to fix the old user account, or is there a way to rebuild what I've lost in the new user account?  I'm using completely updates software in Lion, iLife, iTunes, iWork, etc.

Turns out my "iTunes Library.itl" file was corrupt.  I used the old "iTunes Music Library.xml" file to rebuild a new library with existing playlists and play counts.  Though that didn't go off completely without a hitch, I did find this solution.  Problem solved.

  • Spotlight cant search my Start Up disk but all other volumes are okay.

Hello. I am really cheesed off with spotlight... It was working fine and now it's not. It indexes all my external HD volumes but not my start up system drive. I've tried adding/removing my Macintosh HD to the privacy list. I have tried terminal commands sudo mdutil -E / I get an error No Index
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Where did my Disk Space go?

  • DVD burned from img won't play in other players

In order to back up an old DVD I had to protect it from damage, I ripped it with handbrake and encoded it as a diskimage via iDVD. As the movie was 1.5 hours in length I used the professional setting under project info. After approximately 12 hours of encoding the disk image finished. I can open the disk image with DVD player on the mac and it performs perfectly. I used the disk utility to burn the disk image to a Memorex DVD+R without incident. This morning I tried the burned DVD in my xbox360 which read it as a mixed media disk and would not play it. Next I tried in my sony blu ray player which read it as a photo disk with no photos on the XMB.
What do I need to do to have the burned DVD work properly? Are the DVD+Rs bad or is it something with the encoding? Thanks in advance for your help. I am a pretty big novice to iDVD and the whole process.

To create an image file, launch Disk Utility and select File: New: Disk Image From Folder. In the window that appears, navigate to the desired folder (the DVD) and then click on Image. Give the image file a name, and click on Save when prompted. That’s it.

  • Chapters and Play all - how do I get this to work with a one hour project?

    Hi
I have a one hour project and at the moment I have it in one track with a Main Menu, Chapter menu and a bridge menu for the loop point.
I have 5 chapters and want 2 functions to happen in my DVD structure:-
    1. the Play All function
    2. and the Chapters to play each individual chapter and then go back to the Chapter menu when it;s finished.
As my project is now, the play all feature won't work, it is like it's the CHapter menu.
In the past I've had a track for the play all and then separate tracks for each chapter. Is there a way around this - do I have to do that fancy encoding (which I have no idea how to set up.
I have 5 chapters and would love some help to construct this as I don't think the 2 hours would fit on my single layer DVD and it would be a lot more exporting work.
    Hope you can help.
    Cheers
    Margie

You may want to use scenarios in this situation.
click the "add a scenario" button, an add as many scenarios as you have chapters.
Then double click on each scenario option.
You will see a list of chapter appear on the left of your timeline area.
Drag the chapter you want to play solo to the empty list on the right ("scenario markers").
Make sure you then select that chapter marker in the scenario Marker list, and choose "end jump: main menu". Also make sure that your gobal scenario end jump is set to your main menu too.
Then link you buton to that scenario and repeat for the other chapters.
    hope that helps.
    tee.

  • Is there a play all button?

if i add 3 projects to idvd to burn on the same dvd is there a play all button that will play all the clips without going back to the menu after each clip?

    Hi
*Play all resp one chapter at a time*
    Play All Button
    1. There are NO - Play All - button in any version of iDVD
    2. It can be faked in several ways
    • Easies and most fault proof way is to make a doublet movie containing All and with
Chapters set to match. It will take up x2 space but is easy to understand and produce.
    • It's said that one can put all movies into a Photo/SlideShow and this will also
give the function of a Play All button - Never tested though.
    Mike Evangelist1
You might be able to get close to what you want by using a slideshow in iDVD. (It's not widely known, but you can put videos in a slideshow.) If you set the slide duration to manual, playback will pause after each movie/slide, and you can continue with the 'next' button.
    3. Using another program to do this eg. Roxio Toast™ where there ia a Play All button option.

For some reason, my SuperDrive wants to spit out disks for no reason. Some disks it works with all of the time. it seems to burn all of th time and recognizes blanks. some disks are ejected immediately all of the time. Some are hit and miss. I think this correlates to an OS Update.
