SuperDrive generico para eMac

*Hi, I have a question!*
ENGLISH//
I have an eMac to which is no longer working the combo drive, and wanted to install a SuperDrive, unfortunately few suppliers in Mexico have it and is very expensive or do you recommend putting on an outsider, but it makes you uncomfortable.
Anyone know what kind of drive that makes it official or I can buy to suit the needs of the team.
The serial number is XX435XXXXX
I send a greeting!

G'day, [Good Day to you]
You have noted the 2 options - replace the internal drive, OR get an external one.
I personally replaced the internal with a Pioneer superdrive. You need to know what you are doing though - the CRT inside the eMac remains dangerous even when unplugged. (Dangerous Electrical Discharges)
If going for an external, preferably find a Firewire drive rather than USB. It will be more reliable.

  • Can I install a superdrive into my eMac?

I was wondering if i could install a superdrive in my eMac PowerPC G4? and if i can what brand do you recommend? and what is a price i should be looking for.
    Thanks

I have not done it myself since my eMac came with a Superdrive. However the short answer to your question is, Yes, you can install a Superdrive. If you search these groups, you can find past experiences with putting in a Superdrive for the first time or from people who have updated from older Superdrives to new models to gain speed or other features.

  • Upgraded to a Superdrive...why won't iTunes recognize it?

I recently had a guy install a Superdrive on my eMac. Now when I got to burn a CD or DVD in iTunes, I get a message that says: "Disc Burner or Software Not Found." Grrr. What should I do?

If patchburn doesn't fix it, you made need to open the case back up and double check the cables (ribbon and power cable). Make sure the cables are securely and correctly attached (generally the blue end of the ribbon cable goes to the board and the black end to the drive).
If the cables are secure, then check the jumper settings found on the back of the drive--many drives work best when set to the Cable Select (CS) jumper position; if you don't know which jumper position is CS and it is not labeled by the jumpers on the back of the drive, it generally will be found on a diagram on top of the drive--meaning the drive must be removed and checked or that you'll be doing some trial and error. If other applications recognize the burner and iTunes still doesn't after patchburn and connection settings, try updating or repairing disk permissions through Disk Utility.

  • Rip speed slower with imacg5 versuz emacg4

    Hi there,
Can anyone explain why an emac G4 1,25 chz.1G ram OSX 10.3.9 rips an audio cd in itunes 6.0 TWICE the speed than a brand new Imac isight G5 1G ram 20inch OSX 10.4.3 in itunes 6.0.1.??? I allready caled the aplle care support and tried some testing no results , I went to the aplle center and tested on their Imac isight G5 1G ram 20inch same speed as mine. Do i have a SUPER emac or is the new imac just slower???

Hi SJP. The DL superdrive in the iMac G5 iSight reads CD's at 24x.
The single layer superdrive in the eMacs read CD's at 32x.
THis seems to be the price we pay for having a dual layer slot loading drive.
If its any consolation the iMac superdrive WRITES at 24x, though, whereas the eMac superdrive only wrote at 16x (or, at least, this was the case with the last model that I could find specs for).
When I bought my Pb12 a couple of years back, one of the reasons that I opted for a combo drive over a superdrive for an internal burner was its far better performance with CD's. I think a case can still be made for getting an external FW burner for frequent use with Superdrive equipt iMacs and the like. They are usually significantly faster for both CD and DVD work.

  • Using and External DVD/CD Drive

I have only used the SuperDrive in my eMac.
I think it has died and I am wondering about just buying an external drive to work with my 1 GB 800mhz eMac.
    Here are my questions:
How is this to set up?
How much as an external DVD/CD drive?
Will it also play regular DVDs in addition to burning them?

    Sir,
I did this firmware thing but I sadly don't recall what it is right now.
    That didn't work.
Then I turned over my eMac opened up the back and pressed the PNU or PMI button.
    That didn't work.
Then I cleaned the drive using my DVD/CD cleaner.
    That worked.
The firmware thing and PNU/PMI thing are on thread in this section.
I would say start clicking around for topics similar to yours. I apologize that I don't have more of an exact offering of information.
Let me know if anything works...

  • Not able to boot anything...

I just picked up an eMac 1GHz off the street (strangely enough, all 4 of the Macs I have/had have been found waiting to be thrown away). Physically in good shape but when I plugged it in to boot it up, I got a flashing question mark/Finder icon that I'm sure is not from OS X. (image here: http://img31.imageshack.us/my.php?image=downloady.jpg the eMac was upside down on my bed so the photo is the wrong way...sorry )
I tried booting from Jaguar and Panther CD's that I have and tested them on my iMac G3 (working fine there). It seems, however, that the superdrive on the eMac doesn't want to do anything. I can eject the drive from OpenFirmware but doesn't sound like it's spinning up at all, and doesn't boot holding the C key or typing in commands in OF.
I have read about target disk mode and I suppose it will help me in some way, though first I need to get a 6pin-6pin 1394 cable. What exactly can I do with it, can I use the iMac's working drive to install Panther on the eMac? That would be ideal as I don't have Tiger but would like to at least be able to use Firefox 3. Or can I install Jaguar on the iMac to the eMac's drive? (side note: iMac's previous owner upgraded to 10.2 w/o upgrading firmware, so I'm stuck with it)
I'd like to be able to repair the current install if possible, otherwise using the target disk mode seems like the only other thing to do. I've zapped the PRAM, removed ram/battery etc. nothing helped as I expected.
I look forward to your replies!

Hey, I got the firewire cable and I was able to successfully boot the iMac's Jaguar install on the eMac (runs fantastically on the G4 compared to the G3 ) and I also put the eMac in firewire mode and installed to the eMac's hard drive; the eMac's hard drive was previously empty but now I can see all of the system files but still it won't boot even if I select it from the Startup Disk preferences.
I tried running some command form Open Firmware (boot hd:,\\:tbxi) on the eMac and now it says "Parsing CHRP-BOOT - Bootinfo is not compatible". That's better than before where it would say "can't OPEN: hd:,\\:tbxi" but perhaps I need some other command. I've tried reset-nvram and reset-all, nothing.
the eMac's superdrive will not respond to any discs that I place in it. I guess it's busted.
I'll try using the iMac's CD drive to install on the eMac (I'd love panther or tiger), how do I do that? Any special method? Thank you for the reply!

  • 16x DVD media only burns at 2X

I'm having a problem with my eMac and 16x Memorex media. It burns the 8x Memorex at 4x and now it's burning the 16x media at 2x. Is there some sort of firmware update or software update that can allow it to burn this media at 8x? The superdrive in my eMac is supposed to support 8x burning. I'm using Toast Titanium 6 to burn. Would Toast 7 make any difference?
This is going to be a growing problem, because I can't find 8x media anymore, my local store has upgraded everything to 16x media.

Mike, all the major manufactures boast that there Media is Backward compatible..
There have been several reports similar to yours.
It appears that it is a 3 fold problem
    Hardware..
    Software..
    Media..
If you search through the DVD posts you will see several complaints about this very issue...Cheers...Don

  • Cannot burn Apple supplied DVD-R

    I have a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-815 (CD-RW/DVD-R) and cannot burn a DVD-R 2X purchased from Apple. Any suggestions?
    I got this burn message:
    "Burning disc: "Untitled DVD"
An error occurred while burning the disc. This disc cannot be used."
The disc then ejected and I got this message:
"Burning the disc failed because this type of CD is not supported. (Error code 0x80020043)"
    Thanks,

I'm having the same problem on the Superdrive on my eMac when trying to burn a DVD.
"Burning the disc failed because this type of CD is not supported. Error code 0x8002043"
I'm using Verbatim DVD+R. I compared them with other DVDs I've burned..they are exactly the same.

  • Why some eMac DVD SuperDrive doesn't work?

Why some eMac DVD SuperDrive doesn't work?

Hopefully some day I will find the answer for this question.

  • Can I edit DVDs On emac superdrive?

A friend filmed my horseride on her video camera then downloaded that onto a DVD. I thought I could bring that home to my emac and edit it down to the few moments the horse and I look good and make a new DVD from that. So far I can't seem to find anything that allows me to do that. All I can get the dvd to do is play the entire 21 minutes.
I know that I took video footage and edited it on my computer about a year ago but I can't remember the details. I know it did not involve a DVD.
Can anyone jumpstart my brain? I have read every "help" possibility on my computer with no luck so far.
    Thanks,
    Laura
emac superdrive   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

My emac has IDVD and IPhoto and PhotoStudio and I just found imovie. I don't have an icon in the dock for iMovie so I forgot it was there. I can tell this is what I used a year ago to edit some film footage. I just tried to use it to import the dvd material but had no luck.
I know my emac has the capacity to read and burn CDs and read and burn DVDs but - obviously- I barely know what that means.
I appreciate your attention to this question!

  • EMac SuperDrive Compatabilitys

Does anyone know the compatabilites for burning cds and dvds for the eMac superdrive.
Lately i've been having problems left and right trying to get a dvd recordable to burn. I tried everything that was suggested and even bought some Verbatim DVD+R's to use.
I know my mac can burn the DVD plus because i has no problem burning DVD+RWs from Sony. They work with no problem and load with no problem.
If i use the one time burn DVDs the following happens
    underburn failure
    verify failure
burn successful but DVD won't mount after it is ejected
    Burn failure
    I tried
Cleaning out files (using MacJanitor, Macsweeper)
Used Disk Utility, Finder and even 3rd party buring software.
Clean out the pref file for Disk utility and tried slower speeds in finder.
Switched DVD products (Sony, Maxwell, Staple then Verbatim)
Restart, Run Disk Utitly to verify startup disk, restart then only have the computer burn with no other applications working.
Tested with other Media (CD and CD-RW work with almost any product)
checked hard drive space (have 40Gb out of 70Gb free)
Is my Superdrive dying on me? Do I have to upgrade the RAM but i read that someone tried it and it did not work. What is left? Reinstall the OS?
I really need help as this is making my frustrated. I already wasted money on blank DVDs so what do?

There's a good chance the drive is dying on you. May be time to consider an external solution
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/optical-drives/
or if you're game, an internal replacement
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/optical-drives/superdrives/powermac/
I'd definitely recommend more memory.512MB would be good, 1GB would be better. Your eMac will be faster. It's possible that the small amount of RAM you have installed is causing problems, but that would not be my first guess. Whatever route you take, you really ought to get more memory.

  • I need recommendations for an emac 1.42 and ibook 1.33 compatible external superdrive ?

I need recommendations for an emac 1.42 and ibook 1.33, OS 10.3 - 10.5 compatible external superdrive ?

If you need the drive to be able to boot those Macs, you'll need FireWire connectivity. If you ned to use a system optical disk to upgrade or re-install the OS. or repair your hard drive, you must boot from the optical drive. If either computer's built-in optical drive has failed, or does not support reading DVDs, you'l need to boot from an external sooner or later.
If all you need is a burner, then USB opticals are cheaper and should work fine.
This firm tests all their stuff for Mac compatibility:

  • Can a superdrive emac make exact copies of dvds?

I want to get a new emac, and get the best one I can, with Superdrive, but i just want to know about burning dvds....
If i want to make back-up copies of dvds i have bought from shops (incase they get scratched), can it do this? Or is the dvd burner for files i have on my mac and to make dvds of media i will have on the computer.
Basically, to put it more simple, i want to be able to burn my dvds as exact copies, so when i watch them it is the same as watching the originals?
    Is this possible?

It depends on the DVD. Many DVDs have copy protection on them to prevent duplication.
I've sucessfully created archive copies of some DVDs, and others proved to be more difficult.
Look for some software called MacTheRipper. It might help you, but I must urge you to familiarize yourself with the legal issues surrounding DVD duplication. You might be playing around in grey area, even though your goal is pretty benign.

  • EMac SuperDrive won't mount DVDs

My eMac won't mount any DVDs, including the OS X 10.3 DVD with my system software.
The SuperDrive will mount CDs that I can play and rip with iTunes.
I think I have followed most of the suggestions that I have found posted here in this forum, including restarting the system and starting the DVD Player and then inserting the disk. I have tried a cleaner CD as well.
As I understand it, the Firmware update for SuperDrives that is posted on the Apple site is for eMacs with USB 2.0, newer machines than mine.
I have had the computer for just over two years and I haven't used the DVD feature much. This seems like a premature failure if I have to replace this drive already.
    Any suggestions are much appreciated.
    Thanks,

I am glad to hear of your good experience.
I am in the same place: my eMac is just over two years old. Here is where my situation differs: I don't have AppleCare, so this will be my nickel if I need to replace the drive.
Yes, it is a Sony optical drive.
I tried the things that Don suggested above and the drive still refuses to mount any DVD at all. I think that, like you, I have a hardware problem.
Thanks to both of you for your posts.
