Superdrive has CD-R stuck

My Superdrive has a CD-R stuck inside of it and won't eject at all .
I don't know what to do. I've restarted my MBA and nothing happens on the reboot. Even when I try the reboot tricks of pressing the E or C keys while rebooting, no cd comes out.
Please help!!

Another one is holding down the mouse on a restart can eject disks on some models as well.

  • I have a 2 year old MacBook Pro and the superdrive has stopped working, it won't take discs in as if there is one already inside but iTunes or the dvd player doesn't recognise that there is a disc inside and if there is it can't be ejected

I have a 2 year old MacBook Pro and the superdrive has stopped working, it won't take discs in as if there is one already inside but iTunes or the dvd player doesn't recognise that there is a disc inside and if there is it can't be ejected, i have tried shutting down and restartinf while holding down the trackpad, as recommended on some forums but that has done nothing
It might be a huge coincidence but the drive was working fine before i installed lion?

Installing Lion would not cause the superdrive to stop working.  Are you unsure as to whether or no a cd/dvd is inside?  Something may be broken inside and you should consider bringing it in for service.

  • My MacBook Pro's internal SuperDrive has stopped recognizing CDs/DVDs after Yosemite install

After upgrading to Yosemite, my MacBook Pro's (early 2011) internal SuperDrive has stopped recognizing CDs/DVDs after Yosemite install. It takes them in and will eject them with the keyboard button, but they will not mount. Disk Utility shows the SuperDrive and shows the inserted media, but will not mount the disk. That button is grayed out. Please help! I still have training libraries and music I access on such media. Thx!

UPDATE: I discovered some forum posts about a similar issue with Mavericks that recommended re-installing the system to fix the problem. I realized that I rarely restart my computer unless there's an update that requires it, and decided before undertaking a full re-install of Yosemite to simply restart my computer again. THIS WORKED! The SuperDrive is now mounting CDs and DVDs. Not sure what the issue was, but if anyone else has this issue I hope this will save you hours of frustration.

  • Superdrive has stopped reading DVD's, replaced drive and have same issue

    Hello,
My G5 2.0 superdrive has been acting up for quite some time however it stopped mounting any DVD media from Movies to Apple OS Install DVD's. It reads CD's, both commercial and burnt. Every blue moon it will actually read a DVD but it is becoming few and far in between.
To make things even more interesting, I replaced the drive on my main machine with the identical perfectly working drive from my other G5 and I am still experiencing the same issue. The other machine reads just DVD's just fine with both drives.
I believe this is caused from software updates from what I've been reading around the web. I would like to hope that this is simply a preference that needs deleted or something that can be resolved quickly. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I am having the same problem which has been getting worse. I put in a DVD, the drive makes sounds as if it is getting ready to read it, but then just keeps making the same sounds over and over. The disk will speed up and then down. Every so often it will "catch" and read the DVD.
This is frustrating because I have the install disks for Leopard sitting on my desk but I can not install it. If I do get it to read the disk once, it asks me to restart and then will not read the disk the start the install, ejects the disks and boots back to 10.4 from my hard drive.
CD read and write just fine, no problem.
    Has anyone solved this problem?

  • 2010 Mini superdrive has stopped working after Mountain Lion update - anyone else?

After updating to 10.8 the superdrive on my 2010 mini has completely stopped working. It will not accept any disks. Disk Utility sees the drive as a working drive. Anyone else having this issue? If yes and you've resolved it, how??

Same thing happened to me with Mountain Lion. It seems that at the moment there's no solution. I've tried to burn a DVD with Toast Titanium, iDVD and the SimplyBurn. All of them failed.
It's a shame that Apple did this because we pay for a computer with a drive that could burn DVD discs. I´m very, very disappointed with Apple!

  • Firefox won't close and has now got 'stuck'!

    Hi
My version of Firefox on my home PC (v3.6, I think) always takes a short while before it completely closes.
If I close down Firefox but then restart it again because I've forgotten something it will give me an error message saying that Firefox needs to close completely before I can open it again.
That's fine - I can live with that.
However, last night I did exactly this - needed to reopen Firefox before it had completely closed and this time it has got stuck....I don't get the error message anymore. It won't open by double click, from Explorer or anything. I can't close it from Task Manager. I can't even uninstall it because it is "still open".
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

Firefox often doesn't close properly if I have been using the Blackboard 'virtual learning environment'. Task Manager always reveals that the Firefox process is still running and Java as well. Killing Java allows Firefox to close. Is there a more elegant way of ensuring that Java isn't going to block Fx from closing, e.g. because an applet is invisibly waiting for something? It would be good to have a way of pre-emptively 'clearing' Java before closing Firefox. (Gryllida's solution of disabling Java altogether isn't suitable, because Blackboard and many other sites need it.) Thanks.
I run Firefox 4.0.1 on various machines with different OSs: Win XP Pro x64, Win 7 Pro x64 and Win XP Pro x32. All behave the same in this respect.

  • I think that my MacBook Superdrive has been scratching my discs...

    Hi,
I think that my MacBook Pro drive has been scratching my CDs. Today I was installing Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro and when I ejected the disc I found a linear scratch in the disc surface, however they are very small and you can barely see then unless I put the disc into the light with an angle. The scratches are not circular. I think that my discs are getting scratched due to the aluminum around the Superdrive slot in my MacBook Pro. I don't recall myself scratching the disc and I am very careful putting them inside the slot drive entry.
Has anyone heard or experienced disc linear scratches with the aluminum slots in MacBook Pros, iMacs?

I just tried putting a CD in and ejecting it after a while. It almost seem too protected by the foam inside the superdrive to be damaged. There were no scratches when I got it out. You can check if the foam just inside of the drive is damaged in anyway leaving your discs to scratch the aluminum body
I don't know what to tell you about the foam inside of the superdrive. Are you refering to that gray-leather looking covering in the opening of the superdrive? I am very careful putting disc inside of the Superdrive and the scratches are straight in line but you can barely see them unless you put the disc at an angle and put direct light into it's surface. I should also note that the disc that was affected by the scratch was the OSX install disc which I had to insert to install the Bootcamp Drivers.

  • RHEL4U5 X86-64 HVM guest has the mouse stuck in the middle

I just created the HVM RHEL4U5 guest and the mouse is always stuck in the middle of the screen. Pressing Ctrl+Alt does not help either. tried restarting the guest and the VM server multiple times but to no avail. My vm.cfg file already has usbdevice = 'tablet'. Also tried mouseconfig. Anyone else has experienced this issue?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Thank you so much. Actually Centos is almost same as RedHat. They just change some images and texts containing RedHat copyrights and replace them with CentOS.
Thank you for your suggestion though. I'll use those templates. However, this mouse problem is kinda known problem I guess. I applied the suggestion in troubleshooting section (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11081_01/doc/doc.21/e10898/troubleshoot.htm#insertedID7) but did not work.

  • My SECOND superdrive has now failed!

I had the old disc getting swallowed problem and after trying everything to rectify I took the iMac back and had the part replaced.
As soon as I got the new drive back it was just rejecting every disc I fed it, and now it is just swallowing them like the first drive...
This doesnt sound like a hardware problem does it...?
With the amount of people having the same problem I am amazed that it has not been addressed.
I am about to pack my puter back up again and take it back to have my third superdrive installed.
MY FIRST MAC PURCHASE HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE DUE TO THIS ISSUE!!!

Batteries go through charge and discharge cycles. You probably know that if you leave a system plugged in all the time, it's capacity will diminish. That's why Apple recommends, at a minimum, at least one complete discharge a month, to keep the batteries in shape. You may have seen this Apple note on batteries: http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
You didn't talk to how long you've had the two batteries, or how many cycles each has gone through. If it's over a period of 5-6 years, use of two batteries doesn't sound out of the ordinary.
Some people use these batteries as replacements: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/applelaptop/batteries/PowerBook_G4_15AL

  • IMac has a disk stuck and wont boot

    Hi all,
My iMac has an installation disk stuck in the drive. Having been turned off, it now won't open in safe boot mood or some or the other short key problem solvers I have googled, and the disk won't eject. The opening screen doesn't even get to the spinning grey circle, just the main apple logo appears and the cd drive makes a repetitive noise.
I dont know with where the problem lies, the non-booting computer or the non-ejecting disk. Please help.

Have you tried booting up whilst holding down the mouse button until it ejects?

Hey, the stand-by button on my iPod nano 6th generation has been pushed into the iPod, I guess after being pressed a lot, to the point were it doesn't work, what do I do to fix this???

You'll need to take or send the iPod in for service or repair either via Apple or a third party company that does repair work on iPods.

  • Apple Mobile Device Helper has stopped working - stuck in loop

I keep getting a message/check box (AppleMobileDeviceHelper has stopped working)whenever I load iTunes under Vista. If I don't click and respond, my task bar gets cluttered up with these messages - I don't know what to do short of uninstalling everything.
Any ideas of what else I can do to stop this box from coming up, so that I can use iTunes normally?
    Thanks

You could try uninstalling Apple Mobile Device support using add/remove programs. I tunes doesn't require it and will work without it. However if you need it, try doing a repair install of iTunes which will reinstall Apple Mobile Deviced support.
