Good Morning,
 Welcome to the Apple Discussion Forums 
To address your questions...
Per the [Apple MacBook Technical Specifications Page|http://www.apple.com/macbook/specs.html] the MacBook's SuperDrive is compatible with the following media types...
*8x slot-loading SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)*
*Maximum write:* 8x DVD-R, DVD+R; 4x DVD-R DL (double layer), DVD+R DL (double layer), DVD-RW, DVD+RW; 24x CD-R; 10x CD-RW
*Maximum read:* 8x DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-ROM; 6x DVD-ROM (double layer DVD-9), DVD-R DL (double layer), DVD+R DL (double layer), DVD-RW, and DVD+RW; 24x CD
Also, yes, the MacBook is compatible with reading from CD/DVD Discs recorded in Microsoft Windows.
Addressing your monitor question, again, yes. That monitor should be compatible with your MacBook when coupled with an [Apple Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter|http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLI D?mco=60A2B5CD&fnode=home/shopmac/macaccessories/cables&nplm=M9321G/B].
Hope this helps! 

No. an monitor with the following video ins will work:

    Minidisplay port
    VGA
    Thunderbolt
You need to purchase an adopter for Display port and VGA

Is Mac mini compatible with screens from other brands different to Mac?

    Yes.
We have two minis with three screens betwen them, LaCie, Eizo and HP. All work fine.
Obviously you need to check limitations on screen size etc.

No idea if Windows will do it, but you can run Windows without Bootcamp & have OSX available at the same time, which should give you all the Monitors that OSX uses.

  • Mac Mini Compatible with Sony SDM-HX93/B 19" Monitor?

    Hello,
I am researching the Mac Mini and am curious if it is compatible with the
Sony SDM-HX93/B 19" monitor. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hello!
The Mac mini is compatible with any monitor with a DVI or VGA input.
The mini comes packed with a Mini-DVI to DVI adapter. You can also get a Mini-DVI to VGA adapter, I'm pretty sure.

  • Japan Mac Mini compatible with Spanish system?

    Hello,
I'm going to Japan this summer and I've planed to buy a Mac Mini there (there are much more cheaper, about 150-200€ difference). Before doing it I would like to know if I will have any problems with warranty, hardware problems (like monitor, keyboard...). Japan uses NTSC system and Spain uses PAL, I don't know if this will cause any trouble.
    Thanks and regards, Roger.

All the minis sold worldwide are all the same. The only thing that changes between regional models is the packaging and documentation. With regards to warranty I believe that Apple only recently changed their policy to extend worldwide coverage to not only laptops but also to desktops. I'm sure someone else can confirm this although you can confirm it yourself from the Apple Store sales policy statement and terms and conditions.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
No, I do not believe it is possible to use the older iMac as a display screen for the mine. This does not mean that it hasn't been done, but just not to my knowledge.
    Good Luck!

  • How to use a mac mini intel with 30" cinema display

Arg, I just bought an Apple 30" cinema display to go with my new Mac mini intel, but oops the 30" apple cinema display has to use a dual link dvi card. Anyone know how to get out of this horrible situation without buying another new computer.
    Thanks!

If you want to run the LCD at it's high 2560x1600 resolution, then you have absolutely no option whatsoever than to buy a PowerMac or MacBook Pro. Otherwise, you will be able to run the panel at 1280x800 with the Mac mini, which wouldn't make much sense though.

  • My 2012 Mac Mini came with a SSD and with Yosemite, can I add a SSHD and also migrate everything from a Macbook Pro that is running Lion 10.7.5?

    Hi Apple Community,
Today I received a refurbished 2012 i5 Mac Mini that I purchased via Amazon. The Mac Mini came with a 256gb Samsung SSD only installed. The Mac Mini also has 10.10.2 Yosemite.
I am planing on ordering an "OWC Data Doubler Mounting Kit" to add another drive onto the Mac Mini.
I also plan on getting a second drive which would be a 1tb SSHD Black Western Digital (16GB SSD) 2.5 SATA III (6.0GB/s) 5400RPM drive.
Now here is where I am a very confused and concerned. What I essentially want to do is use Migration Assistant to completely migrate what I have on a 2012 i7 Macbook Pro's 750gb HDD to the Mac Mini's 1tb SSHD drive. I want every file and setting to be placed on my new Mac Mini just the way it is on the Macbook Pro. The Macbook Pro is however using 10.7.5 Lion while my new Mac Mini is using 10.10.2 Yosemite.
What makes me confused is, if I migrate everything from the Macbook Pro onto the 1tb SSHD, would I still be able to benefit by having the 256gb Samsung SSD in the Mac Mini? For instance, would the Mac Mini still be able to boot up super fast and use the SSD to write and read programs very fast? Or is it because I am migrating everything from my Macbook Pro's HDD onto the Mac Mini's 1tb SSHD, my Mac Mini will not be able to use the speed benefits of the SSD?
Another concern is, will I be able to use Yosemite or will I be stuck with 10.7.5 Lion? I would only like Yosemite. I do not mine if Lion is removed from my new Mac Mini.

    UPDATE:
    Hi again,
I made more research on raid and now I am considering not to raid at all.
Raid0 seems extremely risky because I do not know how the SSD and SSHD would react together.
And Raid1 seems like it would not be able to function the way I would like to store my files. [The SSD is 256gb and SSHD is 1tb, there is no point in raid1]
I think I will just have to add the second drive and use it without raid. I will mostly save media files such as movies, pictures, and music. And for everything else, save it onto the SSD's storage.

  • Macbook/mac mini can ethernet connected[crossover] with another PC-windows?

macbook / mac mini can ethernet connected crossover with another PC - windows like Sony VAIO laptop VGN-A297XP CEZ ? If yes can share all services like pc-pc connection ? IF Ethernet speed is 100/1000 for this laptop what is connection speed mac-pc ?

If you temporarily connect the Mac Mini server to the Time Capsule (TC) by Ethernet, can it gain Internet access now? Is the Mac Mini in the same room, different room/floor from the TC?

  • Mac Mini Server with Raid 1

    Hi,
Is it possible to set up a Mac Mini Server with Raid 1 using only another mac computer such as a mac book?

Yes- Colin Jeukens posted step by step instructions back a couple of months ago. Here it is again...
Out of the box the mini comes without Raid. You have two identical HDs of 500Gb.
I have just set it up as Raid1. You can't do this when you use the startup disk from the mini. And as you don't have a Superdrive ... you need to be creative. You need another Mac with Firewire.
Step 1: Start the Mini in Target Mode. Press the T during start. In a few seconds the firewire logo will appear on your screen.
Step 2: Go to your second Mac. Connect the firewire cable between second Mac and Mini.
Step 3: On the second Mac start the disc utility. The two identical drives on your mini will show. Create a new Raid set (mirrored = Raid 1). Include both drives. Confirm the warning that all data on the mini will be lost.
Step 4: Make sure your second Mac has CD/ DVD sharing option installed. This is tou use the superdrive to install OS X Server on the mini.
    Step 5: Shutdown both Macs
Step 6: Start your second Mac in target mode. Make sure the firewire cable is still connected.
Step 7: Start the Mini with the option key pressed.
Step 8: Insert the OS X Server install disc in your second Mac.
Step 9: wait till the drive logo apears om the Mini. Continue the install. Will take about an hour.

I have a friend who has a Mac Mini 2007 with osx 10.6.8, and he wants to upgrade 10.7 for different reasons, does the mac mini supports it?

    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
