Superdrive no longer recognizes optical disks after upgrade to 10.5.5

It was handing down my 2007 MacBook Pro 2.2 gHz with a Superdrive fully functional running 10.5.4 with all the security updates. We booted of the Leopard install DVD and did a clean install. Then allowed Software Update to install 10.5.5 as well as anything else that needed updating. Now the MacBook Pro 15" will not mount any CD, DVD. It clicks for awhile then makes like a "boing" sound and kicks out the disk. So, the software install definitely caused this.
BTW, it also has the EFI firmware 1.5 installed and no new versions available for download. My new MacBook Pro has a newer Superdrive firmware.
Another odd thing is that booting from by Carbon Copy Cloner disk we made prior to the install also doesn't recognize any CD, DVD anymore!

Did the DVD drive work before you installed the updates but after you installed Leopard?
In the MBP forums, there were many issues with optical drive problems. There were a bunch of defective drives that failed after a time.
Does the drive show up in the System Profiler? And if so, what does it say?

I honestly don't get what's going on: I recently updated my OS to Vista ultimate x64 and now iTunes decides it doesn't want to recognize my DVD-RW drive. iTunes says that there's no recognizable burning device present. But here's where it gets weird: i can play cds and IMPORT them to my iTunes library, and it knows when i've inserted a cd. but i can't burn them.
Now, i've updated my firmware, i'm running the most current version of iTunes and windows has all the newest updates. So why won't this thing work? The support section from apple had an article involving some registry edits that could help but the article is kinda flawed (it says to delete the lowerfilters but there are no lowerfilters) and they're solution didn't work anyway. apple needs to step on the gas here and produce a REAL vista-ready version of iTunes, because its not getting any better.
I also think it's funny that if you post a question on the wrong forum, rather than answer your question, an apple rep will tell you that you've posted on the wrong forum and need to re-post at the correct forum. wow, now THAT's service...

Try this. Worked for me.
- turn off your router
- turn off you Mac's after removing all available printers
- turn off all iDevices
- do a factory reset of your printer remove all cables min. 30 sec.
- turn on your router first
- ran the network set up wizard
- give your printer also a new name like "DeskJet 2015"
Something which you don't have used before.
- turn on your Mac's and add your printer
- turn on your iDevices at least.
Should work after these steps.
It worked for me including all iDevices.

iTunes purchased video no longer plays on 3GS after upgrade to os 4. Specifically, curious George episodes used to make my 2 year old go off to his quiet place no longer play on my iPhone. Anyone else having this issue or know of a solution? The content was purchased on iTunes and played fine on previous os.

System won't recognize a RAID after upgrading to 10.5

Hello,
Two RAIDs were working great on an Apple G5 with OS X 10.4.0. After upgrading the operating system to 10.5 and other changes listed below, the computer doesn't recognize one of the RAIDs. The computer does recognize one RAID, which does not have a port multiplier; it does not recognize drives in the RAID with the port multiplier.
System: Apple G5 Quad Processor
SATA card: Sonnet E4P
RAID A: SC-SAT05PM, with Port Multiplier & single SATA cable
RAID B: Mercury, 2 drives & 2 SATA cables.
All 3 SATA cables connect to ports on the Sonnet E4P.
Both RAID's were created with OS 10.4 disk utility software
Here's how things happened, in order of time:
There are 2 internal drives in the computer, G5..1 & G5..2. My wife installed OS 10.5 to boot from internal drive #2, G5..2. Both RAID’s were recognized by the computer in OS 10.4 and OS 10.5. However, the system was instable and crashing frequently with 10.5. She then dragged the G5..2 10.5 Applications folder to the trash and she only boots to 10.4.
At this point, 10.4 is still recognizing both RAIDs.
We went on vacation and I shut down both the RAID and the G5.
After booting everything back up, the system will not recognize the RAID with the Port Multiplier. The computer Does recognize the other RAID with 2 hard drives.
Any way to get our RAID back without losing the data? I read another thread where somebody suspected firmware in the controller. The drives seem to initialize in the RAID box just fine, and the disk utility sees the individual drives, but reports them as Offline.
Mercury RAID with 2 Seagate drives and 2 SATA cables going to the G5/Sonnet.
Clicking on G5RAID..800 in the left column shows these results
Port Multiplier RAID with 5 Seagate drives: 4 are in the RAID set, 1 is not.
Clicking on disk10, which is grayed out, in the left column gives these results

My iPod Touch can no longer download Podcast Videos after upgrading to iOS4

After upgrading OS 3.1.3 to iOS4, My iPod Touch (2nd Generation) can no longer download such video podcasts as NBC News, CBS News, ABC News and Cranky Geeks from iTunes store. The moment the download starts, there is always an annoying prompt "this video cannot be played on this iPod".
It's really frustrating!!!

IPod no longer updates smart playlists after upgrade to 1.3

After upgrading my 5th Gen 30GB iPod to 1.3 I noticed immediately that the smart playlists on my iPod aren't updating any longer. Until 3 days ago my iPod had firmware version 1.2.1 and all smart playlists worked as expected.
I have many smart playlists that I have been happily using everyday for the past 2 years to play only new podcasts, shuffle my favorite tunes based on when they have been played last, and move songs in and out of My Top rated tunes based on their ratings. These no longer work on my iPod, but when I sync with iTunes they update fine. I didn't make any changes to my smart playlists before or immediately after upgrading, at least until I noticed the problem.
For the last couple of days since upgrading I have tried deleting all my smart playlists and recreating them, that didn't help. I have also tried restoring my iPod, which also didn't help. I have also tried creating a very basic smart playlist i.e.
Match all of the following rules - checked
Rating is ***
Live updating - checked
Sync'd that to my iPod and started playing a tune and changed it's rating to 5 stars. I then entered a static playlist, played a song from that and when it was done entered the new 5 star rating smart playlist and it wasn't updated.
I'm don't know what else to try, I've repeated the same test as above on my wife's 2nd Gen nano and it worked as expected. Has anyone else noticed smart playlists failing to update since the upgrade? I have searched here and on google, but only found reference to much older firmwares.

I'm having the same problem, once I've listened to a song in my 0 plays list, go out to a new menu, then back in, all the songs that have been played are still there, when a few weeks ago they were taken off and only unplayed songs were still there. Now if I switch to another playlist and back, I have to scroll all the way back to the point I was when I changed which didn't happen earlier.

My Pavilion g7 no longer recognizes optical drive.

Over weekend, notebook no longer recognizes DVD drive. Compuiter lists C: and its two partitions, Drecovery) and EHP Tools), but no DVD drive (I believe it was) H: When I put in a DVD, the drive spools up a bit, then stops. Auto-play does not work.
How can I get it to "see" the optical drive again?

First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
Windows 7
Vista
Check if the drive is now listed and working.
If it still iit's still missing, click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'. In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, click the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager. Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives. Right click the drive and select uninstall. Do not delete drivers if asked. When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ). Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it is now listed and working.

DVD drive will not recognize blank DVDs after upgrade to Lion.

It finds burned DVD/CDs but not blank ones. Disk utility partially sees blank dvd, gives option to eject it, but will not allow eject it. Finder does not see it at all. have to restart to have it eject. Tried different DVD's (Manufactures and -R / +R, etc). Have followed recommendations on resets and have even reloaded the OS. This problem started immediately after upgrade from snow lepoard to lion.

Repairing permissions yes. But in my head, if everything is working fine for it, just won't read Blank media, could it be a software thing?

I have been a long time user of Elements. I recently upgraded to 10 and it no longer recognizes my printers. It says that I need to install printers. When I look in Windows my printers are still installed and work with other programs. The forum wants my to set a photo printer as a default, but i use a laser printer as a default for word processing. This seems to be a serious problem for more than just me.

You're not talking to Adobe here. The responders are users, like you, trying to help. Did you rename one of the HP printers, as suggested?

IPhone 6 take longer time to charge after upgrading to ios 8.2

Did someone have the same problem with me? After updating to ios 8.2, time taken to fully charge the battery seem longer than usual. Usually, it take roughly about an hour to charge from 10% to 100% but now it take nearly 3 hour. I have try to pull out the charging cable when the battery reach 96% and then plug in back after a few second. The battery percentage shows 100% after i plug in the charger. After upgrade to 10.7.4 my MacBook Pro booting properly. But If I try check of disk by disk utility, then this finished by error message (disk need repair).
When I boot to repair partion and use disk utility, everything looks OK. But when I booting back to Lion, disk utility still reported disk neet repair. I am a confused...

DB Home no longer available on XE after upgrade to apex 4.1.1

I've installed XE 11R2 with Apex 4.0 included.
The upgrade to apex 4.1.1 succeded, the url (http://localhost:8080/apex/f?p=4550:1) is still the same.
But the DB Home (http://localhost:8080/apex/f?p=4950:1) is no longer available, an error displays :
Error ERR-1014 Application not found.
application=4950 workspace=10 It's seems the workspace and the db home application has been deleted. Does an other way to access the DB Home exist ?

It appears that on XE, apex 4.0 can't be upgraded for now. This is annoying in my case because I need apex other languages, not included in the xe version...
Maybe can I use the standart apex folders ?

Itunes won't recognize iphone 3gs after upgrade to IOS 5

Backup for Iphone on itunes was made on DELL INSPIRON MINI 10 laptop running XP Professional, Thursday evening 10-13-2011.
Upgraded Itunes to new system (ios 5) Friday evening 10-14-2011.
Connected Iphone to laptop Saturday afternoon to sync and upgrade phone to ios 5. after 2 hours phone was wiped clear, and itunes dropped recognition icon from list. several attempts were made to re-sync. all failed, itunes would not recognize. ended up restarting phone and installing upgrade on another computer. Laptop still failed to recognize.
attempted upgrade to Ipod and it locked up on "Disconnect before removing'. opened Itunes dropdown and selected 'Diagose devise' and was able to restore ipod and sync with itunes. afraid to attempt 'diagnose' with iphone, now that it is working.
back-up for iphone still appears on itunes,,,, just can't back it up...XP is unable to 'ICloud' and my DELL Window Vista Home Premium won't install updates so ICloud won't load....

Form field no longer allows pinpoint placement after upgrade to Adobe 10.1.2

We use Adobe to make all of our forms. Placing a form field Checkbox, Text Field, or other requires placement of the field where we need it. After upgrading to 10.1.2 the form field has a mind of it's own and no longer allows placement of the form field where you need it. Could it be that more video memory is needed.

I found a solution...
In main.cf I've change the line
mailbox_transport =
with
mailbox_transport = dovecot
I also found a second similar line which I removed.
