SuperDrive Noise at Awakening and Startup

I never noticed this before but whenever I wake my computer from sleep the Superdrive makes a quick strange noise like it is just checking the drive (something moves). Is this normal?

The optical drives on all my portable Macs and Mac minis all make a similar 'swishing' noise, so I think what you are hearing is quite normal.

Hello,
after a superdrive replacement at Genius Bar, this one is doing noise at start and when Macbook Pro 5,1 exits from sleep.
I check the firmware version and it's KA19.
I try to applicate the Superdrive Firmware Update 3.0 that i had from an old time machine bakcup (because i can't install it from this link : http://support.apple.com/kb/DL975 ) but it's annoucing that the Firmware is already applied (i did it 2 years ago with the old superdrive).
My system version is 10.7.3
What can i do and how i can apply this update to suppress this noise ?

Sorry to say that but it's not true.
I have a mi-2012 MacBook Pro and during 4 months, it never did the noise when waking from sleep.
Now it does this check when it's waking from a long sleep and i hate this mecanic noise from my silent MacBook
I would love to disable Superdrive completely because i don't use it at all but nobody has helped me doing this ..
If somebody knows how to prevent this behaviour and go back like before, or to completely stop SuperDrive, i would be happy ..

USB SuperDrive noises when moved

My Apple USB SuperDrive makes loud screeching and rattling noises when I turn it while it's spinning. I do realize there is a plastic disc inside spinning at high RPMs, but a mobile drive should be designed to withstand some movement? I'm not used to hearing these noises from other slot-loading SuperDrives. Can anyone try this and either confirm or deny that I have a bad drive?

If your hinge is defective, you can probably get it replaced if it cannot be adjusted. Just be sure to report it to Apple before your warranty expires or consider getting 3 year Applecare. It sounds like it's binding. My hinge is silent, which is what I think is normal. I have heard of hinges that seem too tight as well as of hinges that seem to be too loose. If the hinge is too tight and binding, I would worry about having to exert too much force to open and close it and possibly causing other damage. I would have Apple look at it.

I am sorry Erickkasner but there is no longer direct support provided for Creative Suite 5.5 installation issues.
You are welcome to post any specific errors you are able to discover within your installation log to this discussion. Since you are using Windows then Exit Code 15 could mean one of the following:
Installer database is corrupted
Update pending to your operating system
Improper permissions set for the Media.db
The installation log file should provide additional insight into the exact error you are experiencing. Please make sure to use the find command to look for the words 'ERROR' and 'FATAL' to locate the relevant error messages.

Hard Drive and Startup Failure Code(Model: G61-429WM) Notebook

Windows won't start because it is missing a .DLL file. I ran the system diagnostic tests( Hard Drive and Startup) they both gave me the same failure code(UOC7HA-52H74A-XD0021-60X603). When I turn the computer on, it tells me to insert the system disc which I don't have. Please advice. Thank you!

Sounds like the hard drive has failed and will need to be replaced. If you are still in warranty HP will send a replacement. If not a retail laptop SATA hard drive can be used. Just be sure to get one of at least equal capacity as the original in order to use Recovery Discs. It can be larger, but not smaller capacity.For instance if you have a 500GB hdd you could use a 750GB hdd but not a 320GB hdd.

Different ways to shutdown and startup instance in 10g

I have just installed 10g on my win2003 server. There seems to be 3 different ways to shutdown / startup an instance in 10g.
1. via SQLPLUS (how its always been) with shutdown and startup commands
2. via the new OEM Web interface
3. Start / Stop the NT Service for the instance
questions:
- Did I miss anything other methods?
- how come OEM ask for O/S login as well as DB login, when shutdown or startup? but via SQLPLUS I only have to login using as DBA? different level of security?
- When shutdown via either SQLPLUS or OEM, the NT service is still shown as "started"? so does this mean that the NT service is more than the oracle instance???

how come OEM ask for O/S login as well as DB loginWith SQL*Plus, you are already logged into the Operating System. There is a OS session in progress. With OEM web interface, it has to first start a OS session and then connect to Oracle using Oracle credentials supplied to actually shutdown the DB.

You can see the System logs in SM21 . Background job failure can be viewed in SM37 .
As said before go through \usr\sap\TST\DVEBMGS00\work directory and see the logs. Files like dev_disp , dev_ms ,dev_rfc.trc ,stderr1,stderr2,stderr3,stderr4 will have the log information . These files will have the information after the last system start .
Anyway if want to see the old logs before server shutdown , see the old logs in old files like dev_disp.old,dev_ms.old .

Spectrasonics - White Noise, No Audio, and Audio/Midi Sync Sample issues

Just installed all of the spectrasonics software. Omnisphere, Trilogy, RMX, Atmosphere. Im getting very mixed results.
The patch plays, sometimes there's clicks. Then it goes to white noise. Then there's no output.

I hear your point re Spectrasonics. Generally when you call a software specific provider, they tell you that they do not provide support for 3rd party software - e.g. Logic etc. Im not sure the troubleshooting is on the Spectrasonics side. Actually, all of them have worked succesfully at various points. Further, the white noise now comes and goes with EXS 24, Battery and others. So, it does not appear to be a problem that is specific only to Spectrasonics.
I use an Apogee Duet. I have tried different buffer settings (256 and 512) and that seems to help with certain apps. E.g. Kontakt appears to work better with less latency at 256. Spectrasonics, when it works appears to work better on 512.

Something has gone wrong. Turn your phone off, then force it into recovery mode:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new. In your case, select "new".

Noise reduction, Clarity and Masking Vs Sharpness

Maybe I have been using too much noise reduction and clarity for bird photos. Some people on dpReview recommend no noise reduction and now I am inclined to believe them. Recently I tried using little to no noise reduction, little to no Clarity, lots of sharpening and about 40% masking.This gives the bird good feather detail and anything with less detail has little noise and better bokeh. In low detail areas it looks to me like masking reduces the noise caused by Sharpening but it has less affect on the noise increased by Clarity. Is this true? If it is, in bird photography is Clarity best used sparingly and selectively like on there heads?
Another reason for asking all this is I once read that even a little masking degrades sharpness but now I doubt that. Maybe LR has improved that through the years.

Indeed luminance noise reduction (and to some extent color noise reduction) has a tendency to wipe out fine feather detail.
I recommend:
* lowered noise reduction, and if you do use it, crank the nr.detail slider way up - this will help maintain fine feather detail and is superior to sharpening detail for maintaining feather detail otherwise lost due to noise reduction.
* lowered sharpening detail, to keep noise down, and reduce the "need" for noise reduction.
* and sharpen masking to taste..
Also note: local sharpening at exactly -50 masks all global sharpening, and so can be used in conjunction with noise reduction to smooth the bokeh areas.
And of course you can add sharpening and/or clarity locally too.
I realize I didn't answer your exact question perfectly as asked, but I'm not sure what else to say, so..

Could anyone please tell me where to find LabVIEW drivers for Agilent Noise Source 346B and Agilent Signal Generator E8257C-520. I did not find them on NI's web site. Thank you!

To my knowledge, the Agilent 346B Noise Source is not a programmatically controllable instrument and therefore we can't create an instrument driver. I suppose it is possible to be controlled through an instrument (like the PSG) but I don't see any documentation on this.
As for the E8257C, we are insterested in providing a LabVIEW driver for this instrument series. Let me know if you are interested in assisting our development effort by loaning us the instrument.
