Superdrive not detecting bland DVD's

Hello all.
Trying to put some files on a DVD, insert the blank disc but will not accept it. I use the same discs on a Macbook pro and that has no problems with it. Have checked the settings in finder but can't see anything wrong. Software is up to date and it reads DVD's ok. Any ideas?
Mac Mini 1.42GHz G4, 512MB Ram, Tiger 10.4.8
Cheers.

insert the blank disc but will not accept it
Do you mean that the Mini spits the disc out?
The Mini superdrive does have reputation for being fussy about media. Are you trying to burn with any particular application?

  • Encore 2.0 does not detect my DVD

I have Adobe Creative Suite Production Studio Preium. It is about two years old. I teach a high school class. When ever I have tried to burn a DVD in Primier Pro or Encore it has come back and said it can not detect my DVD. The technolgoy person has tried over the past year to fix. Finally her told me to just buy an external DVD burner because he couldn't figure it out. I purchased a Plextor and hooked it up and I get the same problem.
I know it is not my DVD's because I can burn stuff in Nero. But I want to be able to burn out of Adobe.
While the students are out of school, I thought I might be able to find a solution.

If you have Encore 2.0, that's almost 4 years old - but the vintage of the software is not important.
Instead, look in the FAQ on this forum for software to avoid/remove - many codecs and other DVD burning apps can "break" Encore's burning functionality.
If you need a quick fix, try building a DVD image from Encore, and then burn it from Nero.

  • DVD-Audio player does not detect any DVD-Audio sour

    Hi,
I am trying to play a DVD-Audio disc on my computer using the DVD-Audio player software that came with my Audigy 2 card, but the software fails to detect my DVD-ROM dri've as a DVD-Audio source.
I can play audio CDs and DVDs with no problems using the DVD-ROM dri've.
The OS is WindowsXP Pro with SP and I have the latest patches applied to both driver and DVD-Audio player software.
I would appreciate any suggestions if someone experienced this anoying problem and solved it.
    Thank a lot!

DVD Audio encryption security has unfortunately been hacked using the decoders within WinDVD from Intervideo.
As a result, DVD Audio playback using the WinDVD/Audigy combination has been suspended on "new" versions of the software.
I am a registered user of WinDVD and upgraded to WinDVD 7 Platinum in June and DVD Audio was working fine.
I mistakenly downloaded an "upgrade" to WinDVD 7 at the end of July and found all my DVD Audio discs failed to play.
Intervideo (as usual) refused to respond to my technical support queries when I enquired as to whether the DVD audio support was removed in view of the breach of the DVDA encryption.
Thankfully the previous version was still available for download (after much searching on the web) - WinDVD.Platinum.7.0.Release.2.Build 27.07Using a new activation key from the Intervideo website STILL didn't enable DVDA playback on this previous version however.......... I was able to fudge this using the original purchase activation key by changing the PC system date to within 0 days of my initial activation key supply which I had stored in an email.Hey presto - back to WinDVD DVDA support!Intervideo are being very crafty.... they have updated the WinDVD website to remove all references to DVD Audio support and then were answering my technical support queries as if I wasn't configuring my PC correctly.
What versions of DVD Audio playback software are you using?
    Creative DVDAudio player? WinDVD (version?)

  • Superdrive not reading older DVDs since Lion

Have a 2009 Mac Pro, just updated to Lion.  The installed Superdrive spins and nothing gets mounted.  In order to eject, I have to shutdown, and catch it when I start again, by hitting the keyboard eject button.
The particular DVD is a transfer from VHS tape made years ago.  It plays in normal DVD or Bluray players.  It just hangs the Superdrive.
I have tried a commercial DVD in my Superdrive and it works just fine.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!
    Nelson

I'm having similar problems too since upgrading. I would insert a dvd and sometimes it does not mount. I can't even eject it. Disk utility can't see it either. To get the disk out I have to restart it then is on the desktop and it fuctions as normal. I'm pretty sure it's not the drive as I've never seen this on SL.

  • Video scene markers not detected by DVD or computer

I have burnt an autoplay DVD with elements 2 which combines video and still images.
I put scene markers at each video cut and on each still image but when burnt neither DVD or computer detects them and I so I cannot flick between scenes. What might be causing this? Thanks

I have not had time to hunt down the old FAQs related to this topic that CE mentioned in his posts.
I have Premiere Elements 2, 4, and 7. I can confirm that if
    a. I put scene markers on the Timeline
    b. Go the Create Menus section of the program and opt for No Menus
    c. Then, in the DVD Preview (before the burn), I find options in the simulated Remote for Previous Scene (shortcut P) and Next Scene (shortcut N) which recognize the appropriate scene...works fine there.
However, when I take the end product DVD-VIDEO to my TV/DVD Player, I end up with an AutoPlay with no option to pick (skip to) specific scenes once I hit Play. I cannot find a Previous Scene/Next Scene on my Remote that will function to do just that. If I select Search (slow or fast), that is exactly what it does, but it gives me very poor control.
Although CE says this AutoPlay with scene selection opportunities is popular, what percentage of users has used it for that purpose successfully. Is my experiences related just to my Remote and my use of it?

  • SuperDrive not reading any DVDs or CDs

My Matshita UJ-857E (ZA0E) SuperDrive died on me....
It now does not accept any CDs or DVDs and instead just spits them back out a few seconds after putting them in the slot.
Running Leopard 10.5.5 on MBP (Aug. 2007)...
I really need to use the drive.
I am out of warranty and am prepared to purchase a new drive if required, but want to leave that as the last option. Any hints as to fixing the drive will be greatly appreciated. (I guess ruining the drive by doing something stupid is not a problem... it's already ruined!)
    Thanks!

    Hi
A viable option is an external drive, such as made by LaCie. I bought a FireWire drive a few years ago and it's still a useful spare. Getting a new drive fitted inside your MB now it's out of warranty will probably be very expensive.

  • Superdrive not detected

I'm getting pretty ticked off now. I'll save the rant though.
So a few months ago my iBook stopped playing DVDs and just displayed scrambled colours on the screen, i assumed it was a software issue and by the time I got round to fixing it the problem had gone away.
Now not only will it not play (or even eject) the dvd in the drive System Profiler doesnt recognise that there is a superdrive in there. It seems to come and go randomly so im thinking faulty connection/drive, besides restoring the OS (which obviously is impossible) i cant think of anything to do, I cant run apple hardware test.
One important thing to note (i think) is that if i boot with the mouse button held down it doesnt eject the CD so it's not just OS X that isnt recognising the drive but also the firmware.
I would simply take it into a service centre but they already have my cinema display for my powermac (thats a whole other story) and i cant afford to be without a computer while they fix all my gear.
Any ideas on good third party software to run diagnostic tests? Or infact any other solutions would be greatly appreciated.
Apologies for the novel but i think i covered everything,

Why the diagnostics, the drive is obviously damaged, call Applecare.

  • My HP Pavilion dv6-3108ea cd-rom drive does not detect any dvd's or cd's........ help please!!!!!!!

My CD-ROM drive cannot detect CD's or DVD's.  I have used the microsoft "fix it" tool and it doesn't detect that the driver is out of date nor does it need updating.  I have tried uninstalling the driver via the control panel settings  and restrating my laptop to see if it will reinstall the driver automatically but it always fails.
Does anyone have any suggestions??? I would be very grateful.

You did use proper standoff's to mount the board in the case?
    yes
BTW, the controller is turned on I presume.
    yes
If all is mounted correctly and there isn't any short, then I would RMA the board.
    Ok I'll RMA it

  • Why windows 8 consumer preview is not detecting my cd/DVD drive?

I installed windows 8 consumer preview on my imac. I installed all the latest drivers successfuly but the os is not detecting the cd drive. What should I do?

Did you use the SETUP method? or the ISO method? and did you do a clean install?
I've installed 8 on 3 systems, all clean installs - I learned the hard way with 8 DP that an upgrade isn't a good choice.
It detected your DVD to install Windows, right?
This is a PUBLIC preview and no one needs NDA for using it.
Seeing that you said "CD" I take it this is external and not internal? USB? Firewire? SuperDrivie? Some people can't use their superdrive when placed in an external USB/FW case in order to boot and install Windows 7. And that is not a Winidows issue so much as an Apple issue with not supporting a normal Windows feature.
Maybe you installed something? and CD stopped after that? Not all programs and drivers are and even if you "successfully installed" Apple drivers, not to say they are safe to use on your system.

  • DVD-Audio and "can not detect sound blaster card" with Audigy2 Va

I recently purchased an "Audigy2 Value" card from an eBay user, because I recently purchased some DVD-Audio discs. I downloaded the Audigy2 drivers from the website, and the Creative MediaSource player. 5. Surround sound worked fine for me, though sometimes the driver would reset to the default 2/2. sound and I would have to re-select 5. sound, which was annoying.
Then I was completely unable to get the MediaSource player to recognise my DVD-Audio discs, and the EAX functionality of the player would never work. The EAX logo never appeared in the player. When I tried installing the MediaSource player from an install disc, I got the message "can not detect sound blaster card". Then I discovered the world of EEPROM problems.
I followed advice from some other threads, including using ScanPCI to get information on the card, which yielded the following result.
When installed on my machine (Asus A7A266 motherboard) the ScanPCI reads:
    Vendor 02h Creative Labs

On another machine (specs unknown, it's a "house pc") I got this (with 3 entries!):

    Device 0002h EMU0K Audio Chipset (SB Li've!)

    New Capabilities List Information :

(Just a note: above you can clearly see that it does not say I have an Audigy, it thinks it is a SBLi've. Is this normal? The card IS an Audigy 2, it says so on the card.)
So, I put the card back on my own PC, thinking this has fixed my EEPROM, but I get the same as before. Subsystem ID 0002h. And of course the install software will not detect the card.
I realise that I could go back to using the web drivers, but this still leaves me with MediaSource not recognising the card and not enabling DVD-Audio or EAX, which is why I bought the card in the first place!
I have heard that the VIA chipset is possibly to blame for the EEPROM problems on the Audigy cards, and certainly it seems like it is not permanent, since it gave different information on the other PC. So now I am seriously considering getting a new motherboard.
Do other motherboards cause this same problem? I don't want to buy another board and get the same trouble. All I want is to be able to install my MediaSource and have it recognise my card so I can listen to my DVD-Audio discs.
    Cheers,
    Russ.

Figured out my problem. Installing the drivers from the web to begin with was a bad idea. They just did not work properly with the card.
The "card not found" problem has gone as well, after installing it in another PC. I am also using the proper install disc now, as the other one I was using turned out to not be for the Audigy 2 value after all, but was an Audigy 2 install disc. That easily explains the "Card not found" error. The differing results from the ScanPCI program are still bizarre, though.
Thanks to all of the people on the forum who posted information in other threads to help me deal with this issue. For now I am sticking with the original drivers from the disc and I am not upgrading.

  • Hp g6000 dvd drive not detected in my computer, tried registry fix and still not working.

Hi i have a hp g6093ea laptop and for a couple of weeks now i have had my dvd drive dissapear from my computer.
i have the tried the registry thing where you delete the upper and lower filters and then restart laptop.
it worked then couple days later it  was gone  again.
i have removed the dvd from laptop and clean the connection and put it back still the same.
i was told to remove any burning programs and reinstall so i did that and the drive came back then after reboot went again.
the dvd drive ejects and has power and attempts to read the disk but its just not detected in my computer.
i have even been into the bios and put cd drive as boot first.,
then put my bootable xp pro disk in and it wont boot from the bios.
so i thought i would try an external drive to boot from bios, and it doesnt boot from there either.
i have had the drive randomly pop up in my computer and then after a restart it would be gone again.
so i cant put a fresh install on my laptop and  i dont know what else i can do.
    any help
    thanks

    How old is your laptop?
Have you had any other problems, besides the dvd drive, in the past few months?

  • IMac will not play the DVD that I have made on imovie and burned on iMac SuperDrive  ?? (DVD plays fine on household DVD player and also play fine in Toshiba laptop ) Why not on the iMac - anyone know???

iMac will not play the DVD that I have made on imovie and burned on iMac SuperDrive  ?? (DVD plays fine on household DVD player and also plays fine on Toshiba laptop ) Why not on the iMac - anyone know???

There are many reasons this could be the case but whether an optical disc can be read or not is a function of:
The reflective media layer of the disc
    Whether the burned disc was a DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW
The brand, model, and production lot of the disc
The specific frequency of the Write lasers that burned the disc
The specific frequency of the Read lasers that are attempting to read the disc
Are the Read lasers in the drive working (it is common for one set of lasers in a drive to fail while others continue to work)
How old are the Write and Read drives (laser frequencies change with age)
Is there dust on the read laser
Is there dust on the read lens
    etc.
At one time it was estimated that fewer than 80% of all burned discs were readable in 90% of the drives. That has, I believe improved over time but at the same time it seems the faillure rate of lasers in the drives has increased but that may simply be the result of how many different read and write lasers there are in today's superdrives. Fortunately todays drives are a lot less expensive the replace -- now that Apple no longer installs optical drives in their computers.
