Superdrive not mounting "disk1: alignment error."

Howdy,
I've got a bit of a delima. I tried to pop a cd rom into my computer yesterday
and I got the following error:
"The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer"
Ignore or Eject.
now it seems when I put any disc into the drive the computer refuses to
mount it. If I look in the system log I have the following message for each
time I stick in a cd:
disk1: alignment error.
This message is repeated q few times.. I can see the disc in the "Disk
Utility", and the size reported corresponds to what the disc should contain,
the other information is there as well (such as the other informaiton like the
manufacturer). However I cannot mount the disc. I've tried discs I know are
good that I've used in this computer before, and I get the same result. Keep
in mind that the drive doe not eject the disc, it just sits there. Does
anyone have any thoughts on this? I did a secuirty update recently, though
that is about it interms of installing software.

My quess is that the CD Media you are using may be to high a speed or the Fromat you used and then there is CHEAP CD's all 3 of these can affect the performance.
Check your System Profiler and the Optical Drive in your computer and make sure you are using Good High Quality Media and of the correct Format. Remember Apple Optical Drives have a tendency to be much picker than PC's

  • Client will not mount SAN after upgrade to 10.4.8 Server

Living life on the bleeding edge, I loaded the 10.4.8 Server upgrade onto my G4 Xserve which is the MDC for my single Xraid SAN. The SAN started without a hitch, however, the volume would not mount on the client side. The MDC shows up in the client list and the mount buttons are active, but the SAN will not mount. The system log yields the following error:
Can not mount filesystem, cvfs error 'Invalid argument' (0xb) while initializing local portmapper
I checked the obvioius: /volume is clear of old links, running cvfsck showed no problems, and cvadmin stat looks ok and who shows the MDC as FSM and ADM.
Has anybody else run into this? Any observations would be welcomed!
    Thanks,

As indicated on the tag line, Xsan 1.4. Upgrade from OS 10.4.7. SAN created using version 1.4. SAN mounted just fine under 10.4.7. In an attempt to isolate the problem, I tried mounting the SAN from the command line:
    mount -t acfs iplVol1.cfg /Volumes
only to received the same invalid argument error. I suspect that a parameter name has been changed/deleted/munged when parsing the volume's cfg file. Since Apple did NOT reference the invalid string token in the error message, I can not be sure. I am just now getting back to work the issue.

  • Disk Utility shows Disk1, not mounted, and no further information???

Disk Utility shows my correct disk partitions in the top section (my hard disk with two partitions and my superdrive). In the lower section, however, there is a "disk1" which shows no information. Under that is another "disk1" which shows only 'Not mounted' for 'Mount Point:' and '0 Bytes' for 'Capacity'. All other lines only show dashes.
I looked at my /Volumes folder in Terminal. It shows four entries:
x MPBWinXP - which is my boot camp partition
x MacBook Pro HD - which is my OS X partition
x MacBackups-1 - which is an external drive on my network (for my Time Machine backups)
    x administrator's Public Folder - hunh?
So, this "disk1" in my Disk Utility must represent one of the last two, I'm thinking. And, I'm thinking the last one isn't supposed to be there - or is it there because I shared it at some point, maybe?
Any thoughts on this and what I might do to get rid of the "disk1" from my Disk Utility display?

I never received a reply to this, so I'm marking it as 'answered' just to close it out.

  • Upgrade to Yosemite, iPhoto won't open and NTFS-3G could not mount error with new external HD

    Help!
I just did a software update to get OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 on my MacBook Pro.
Now iPhoto won't open and I get this error:
"Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable....Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. To do this, quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command keys pressed. You can also try restoring your photo library from a backup."
So I do this and try to repair the database as suggested and I get another error:
"iPhoto will open as soon as the iPhoto library is available. Time Machine might be backing it up."
But it's not - no external hard drive is connected.
I'm terrified I can't get access to my photos (and I admit I haven't backed up with Time Machine for over a year - my mistake that I won't make again).
So I bought a brand new external hard drive (seagate for mac and pc, 2TB) so I could save only my photos to the hard drive (because I googled and read you can manually save your photos to disk by dragging and dropping the photo library onto the external hard drive).
But I can't even get the hard drive to work....I get this error
    "NTFS-3G could not mount /dev/disk2s1
at /Volumes/Seagate Backup Plus Drive because the following problem occurred:
/Library/Filesystems/fusefs.fs/Support/fusefs.kext failed to load - (libkern/kext) link error; check the system/kernel logs for errors or try kextutil(8).
the MacFUSE file system is not available (71)"
I google the issue again and it says to uninstall NTFS-3G but I actually think I just deleted it a long ago without uninstalling it properly??  I don't know....
    (a)  how do i fix iphoto
    (b)  how do i get external hard drives to work with this OS (I've read lots of posts and don't really understand the advice)
    (c)  how do i get all my photos onto the hard drive safely so I can import them onto a PC
Any assistance would be magic for this little lady!

    (c)  how do i get all my photos onto the hard drive safely so I can import them onto a PC
First see if you can reformat the EHD to MS-DOS FAT with Disk Utility.  If you can
open iPhoto and select all of the Events in the Events mode. Use the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option and export to the EHD with these settings:
Select the destination for the export to be the EHD or a folder on the EHD.  This process will create a folder for each Event in your library with the same name as the Event and contain the original image files.  The EHD will be useable by a PC and the photos will be available also.

  • DVD burner (UJ-825) does not recognize blank media - alignment error

    Hello,
when inserting (tried several) blank DVD into my iMac DVD burner, it spits it out after a few seconds ...
    error message in the logs
    Jul 4 04:43:46 Bazounga kernel[0]: disk2: alignment error.
is there anyway I could re-calibrate the head of the DVD burner or is could the problem be coming from somewhere else.
N.B.: home burned DVDs cannot be read anymore (same behaviour)
When inserting a blank CD it recognises it but trying to burn a "burnable folder" is fails with error message 0x8002006E)
Finder: Write (10), block: 4294967146, count: 32 -> 3/0C/00 Medium Error, Write error

    Finder: Burn error: 0x8002006E La gravure a √©chou√© √† cause d'une erreur d'√©criture sur le m√
same kind of error appeared previously with DVD's
But commercial CD's and DVD can be read after some "hesitation noise"
    Is my burner dead ?

Normally this error message is caused by incorrect Format or some of the cheaper incompatible Brands of Media. I suggest you use this.
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
I also suggest you use DVD-R Media.
it is the most recognized all around.
Be sure when you buy that your optical drive will burn at the speed it was designed to use.
Many of the higher speed media like 16X will not work on older computers.
They will give you error messages
Here is another good link that explains it.
    http://www.videohelp.com/dvd
I suggest you find Maxell 16X DVD-R media in the individual Jewel Cases and read the packaging and you will see that it will burn at 1X,2X,4X,8X,and 16X this media will work with just about anything in the way of computers.

  • CSS '%% The File System is not mounted.' error.

While I first thought that this was a hardware problem, I've had it happen to 3 of my CSS 11503s in the last 2 weeks. I logged into the CSS and found that the prompt had gone back to the default prompt. Upon further investigation, I was not able to do a write mem - it would just return the following error:
%% The File System is not mounted.
Has anyone seen this before? I went to reboot the unit, but I've lost access to it. I'm actually going to the datacenter today to check it further, but I was hoping someone might be able to tell me if this is a bug or software issue I might need to worry about. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
    Additional info:
CSS 11503 - failover pair running in one-armed mode.
    Version: sg0730203 (07.30.2.03)

Licensed Cmd Set(s): Standard Feature Set
    Jason

Looks like you have a hard disk failure.
Reboot the CSS and let it go through a full diagnostic.
If it does not work after reboot, you will need to replace the unit.
If it works, this could be a one-time error.
If the error comes back, definitely replace the box.

I have a 4th generation ipod classic (click wheel) and it's giving me a sad ipod error as well as not mounting in itunes... I hear a clicking inside when it is connected to power but nothing is working. Help!

You won't believe this but a friend of mine (who happens to be an Apple Genius) told me to put a towel or cloth on a sturdy countertop (I know this may sound weird) but hold the selct button (in the center) and menu part of the wheel at the same time until an Apple logo comes up on the screen and then quickly turn the ipod on it's side and wack it on the counter where the towel is so as not to damage anything cosmetically. It seems the clicking is the hard drive reader is stuck and this dislodges it. Mine works now (no clicking) and all seems to be well again. Who knew?

  • Time Machine error - backup drive not mounted

Our family has 3 iMacs now running 10.5. One has a hard drive connected to it. The others are networed via a couple of Airport Extremes. The network is fine (all have internet). Time Machine is running fine on the iMac connected to the hard drive and on one of the others via the network.
But on the 3rd I keep getting an error that the backup drive is not mounted. It can mount it manually and see it (and its files) fine. The hard drive is configured so that everyone has read & write access. I've tried restarting it and resetting prams. I've tried connecting to the hard drive as a guest and as an authorized user. I still get the same error.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

It seems to be working now. I trashed the old sparsebundle file and let it start from scratch. Wish I thought of that earlier .......

  • PROBLER UPDATING/RESETING IMPOD-COULD NOT MOUNT IPOD ERROR

    HI.
I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO RESET MY IMPOD, BUT AFTER HAVING A LOT OT TROUBLE HAVING IT RECOGNIZED BY MU PC I FINALLY GOT TO RESTORE IT. AFTER A WHILES, I GET AN ERROR SAYING "COULD NOT MOUNT IPOD".
CAN ANYONE HELP ME??? WHAT DOES IT MEAN? HOW DO I FIX IT?

Hi, I tried reseting it, an that did not work.... I tried restoring it and that did not work either.... I really don't know what else to do.
What do you mean if it is up to date?

  • New IMac is crashing randomly because of "Panic Kernel Error." Now IMac startup disk is not visible and will not mount. What the story with this machine. Running 10.6.7

Almost certainly, some sort of hardware problem on your logic board.
Make an appointment and take it to your local Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/

  • Time capsule says disk has an error and will not mount on my computer; how can I purge TC before returning it to apple for replacement?

Time capsule will not mount but stillhas wi-fi;apple sent a replacement that works fine. I have to send my old time capsule back to apple but I want to purge it for security reason (personal data).  Will pushing the reset button while plugging it in to restore to factory setting delete all back-ups also?

No, it won't do anything to the hard disk.
You need to go to the disk tab on the airport utility.. and erase the drive.. if the drive doesn't show up it is dead and not an issue.. Also Apple are careful to destroy data left on drives.. It might be hard to trust them.. but I think they are careful.. mind you if you have your account numbers for your multi-million dollar accounts.. then use an axe and forget the warranty.

  • SuperDrive not working

I have an Intel Mac, I was trying to set up boot camp and Win XP on a partition and it went wrong, I reformatted the HD and reinstalled the OSX software and now my Superdrive is not recognising my blank cds, has anyone experienced this before or does anyone know how to fix it, regards, Mike.
BTW, I am a complete Mac newbie...

What exactly happens when you insert a CD? Does it just not mount? If that's the case, to go the CDs & DVDs system preference and see what the setting is for "When you insert a blank CD". If it's set to "Ignore", that's your problem; set it to something else (depending on what you want to have happen).
If that doesn't help, then please post back with more details - for instance, any error messages? Do normal CDs (such as purchased music) and previously burned CDs work? - and we'll go from there.
    Regards.

  • ASM not mounting after reboot of external storage

I have a setup with 4 internal drives and 12 external drives(external storage, multipath). The diskgroup was orignally created on the 4 internal drives and then the disk group altered to add the external storage. Everything was fine until the external storage array got powered down. Then we rebooted both boxes and ASM did not come up. I also see the HEADER_STATUS as UNKNOWN for all the external storage drives.
