Superdrive not opening (sometimes)

g'day all - having read all the posts about the superdrive failures, mine seems to have died although it is a strange one. It's a Pioneer 107D and it reads, writes, and ejects if a disk is in it (sometimes)...however it will not open (without my trusty paperclip) from keyboard, fkey, drag disk to trash, startup with mouse button held, etc. etc. Terminal mode (drutil etc.) says drive is ok as does About my Mac. I can hear the mechanical attempts to open, but only the ol' paperclip seems to do the job. Any thoughts??? If I replace it are there any thoughts as to what people find reliable? I am thinking Litescribe at the moment (I do not "need" DL or BluRay). TIA to anyone!!! cheers, sam

Mate! thanks for the heads up on the 112D; you, like many others have been v. positive about this device and I probably will head in that direction in the new year. However if anyone reading this thread has had this prob and have migrated to Leopard and have the prob go away I truly would be interested for obvious reasons. Anyway for now, thanks and cheers and I hope the ice storms are not creating havoc in your neck of the woods!

App.launchURL does not open sometimes

Hello everyone
I need help with this problem, for some reason, in certain circumstances, Adobe Reader 8.1.3 with the button that runs the javascript:
app.launchURL("http://...", true);
is not open, no error throws to JS console, or anything ... you can press the button as many times as you want, it does not open.
The odd thing is that sometimes works and sometimes not, with different instances of the same form PDF.
PDFs forms are designed with Livecycle Designer ES 8.1 and saved as (Adobe dinamyc XML Form) finally the form are passed by ReaderExtensions (before delivery to user), so the user can fill in Reader.
This happens only in the client's computer.
Context where this occurs (corporate intranet):
- Windows XP
- Acrobat Reader 8.1.3
- OfficeScan Antivirus
It is possible that some other program or antivirus is blocking the opening of the new window may be why it happens randomly?

Reports can not open sometimes.

we can not open our report file sometimes especially contains OLE object.
In Open report dialog we click the file name but nothing happen .
I thing file format is corrupt.
How can we solve this problem.

I believe you are taking about Reports 6i version here since OLE support is deprecated in 9i Reports. Please note that this feature is only for Windows platform. One or two issues were resolved in latest version of 6i Reports patch. Please try with ont of the latest pathces.

I've had a few (too many) apps that will not open, sometimes giving Error -1712. In one case it was TextEdit, the others are ones I've recently downloaded.

I've done some basic troubleshooting: repair permissions; trash and reinstall app; restart the iMac. I recently had the Apple Store reinstall OS X 10.9.2 (after I couldn't get any installers to work). That fixed that problem, but now this.

I can send and receive calls.
I get "messaging stopped" when doing a lot of texts.
Texts come up "ghosted" meaning they have the text on the bottom and a transparent one overlaid on top. they then become one. But I get the ghosting most of the time when I go into a message from a contact to send a text.
When I go to call logs or text logs, the numbers come up first, and then then the names pop up randomly, meaning not in order down the page, until they are all shown. lots of lag time.
It runs slow.
I have 5 apps on here. I should be able to have a lot of apps on here, and play music, and have files, and...and....and.
I can get online but doing a Google search, when the page with the choices comes up, it is blurred and I have to tap on the screen for it to become clear and readable.

I get VZWAVS has stopped. (not sure if those are the right letters)
The status bar that is supposed to be gray with the new update, goes back and forth between green--the old os--to gray. And I have found no continuity with when I get green or when I get gray.
I get a black screen on occasion.

I am almost very new to Macros VBA. I did much R&D to fetch data from Oracle database to excel sheet. I don't have any oracle software in my machine nor any drivers related to oracle. I request someone to provide me exact oracle required drivers

I have few cases as below:
1. When Provider name is changed to "PROVIDER=MSDAORA.Oracle" ---> it throws error as
Connection not Open.
2. When Provider name is changed to "Driver={Microsoft ODBC Driver for Oracle}" ---> it throws error as
[Microsoft] [ODBC Driver Manager] Data Source Name Not Found & no default driver specified.
3. When Provider name is changed to "Provider=OraOLEDE.Oracle" ---> it throws error as
Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed.
I request to please help me from beginning to start this process. I would be very thankful to you. I am struck. Please help me.

But the system tells me Runtime error! R6034. An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.
And then again Provider for SQLDMO is not installed properly.
I have installed vcredist_x64.exe ande vcredist_x86.exe. I have installed R3dllinst too.

When Firefox does not start is because of profile corruption.
I use to create under my Documents folder a folder named Mozilla and then another two folders for Firefox and Thunderbird.
To instruct Firefox to use for its profile the new path open Terminal and copy and paste the following line
open -a /Applications/Firefox.app/ --args -p
hit return.
If your actual profile doesn't contain any useful data remove it then follow the on screen advice to complete the configuration.

Safari - locations do not open - freeze partway

Safar will not open sometimes - gets partway through opening an address/location and then stops. This happens with apple.com, google.com as well as other sites. If history is deleted completely this will work but not reliably.

Superdrive will open DVD but not CD

My Superdrive will open and read a DVD with no problem but refuses to load music or software CD`s . This has recently developed - it used to be fine.
It is the Sony DVD RW DW-U10A.
I have tried the air duster but to no avail.
iMac is coming up to four years old - surely not time for the scrap heap yet ?

I also have intermittent superdrive problems on my iMac and this clock battery suggestion is about the only thing I haven't tried yet.
My issues are with DVD playback mostly, but burning CD's has a mind of its own - sometimes it burns, sometimes it doesn't.
DVD Player is 4.0, but other players i.e. VLC encounter the same playback problems.
iMac is 17-inch flat 1.25 GHz
Panther 10.3.9 (will not be updating this machine to Tiger)
Superdrive: SONY DVD RW DW-U10A, Revision A43h
Could you direct me to specific documentation or step-by-step instructions on the clock issue?

Sometimes PDF files do not open in mail

I have received mail with a PDF attachment but the attachment does not open on my mac book pro... It opens ok on windows and also sometimes ipad or phone. The files are just blank on the mac book.

G5 Powermac SuperDrive Door Will Not Open - (mechanical problem)

...so my superdrive was acting up, making noises etc. so I removed the superdrive from the case, took it apart, put it back together, re-installed it but now it will not open the door on the case (outer door) ... the cd tray will not come out unless I hold the outer door open.
reinstalled several times to make sure its lined up ok, but it still doesn't work.
when I hold the door open and push the eject button, the cd tray comes out fine.
the door doesn't seem to be jammed. moves fine.
I don't believe its a software problem
now what?

it would be good if there was a burner that could burn cd, dvd, dual layer and HD / Blueray too.
