Superdrive UJ-825 won't load Superdrive Update 2.0 and won't burn 4x

My subject sums it up. When I load Superdrive Firmware Update 2.0, it says there is no drive that needs updating. Nevertheless, the Apple website says that my firmware should be updated and my Matshita UJ-825 has never burned a disc faster than 2x. Any help?

After doing a little searching, I found that more than likely your issue is being caused by the media you are using.
I suggest you have a look at the Media Guide.
http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
I personally prefer Maxell 16X DVD-R Media.
This Newer Media is very high Quality and it will burn at the highest rate your drive will allow.
I also suggest you choose media in the individual jewel cases over the cheaper bargin basement multi spools of 30-50-or 100 these have shown to be of lesser quality in the pickyer Mac DVD Burners.

You can get Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
You should still have your profile folder, so when you install 3. you will get your bookmarks and other user data back.
There is a third party version of Firefox that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox

Could you post your diagnostics for us please?
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
    ... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:
... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here. (Use your Ctrl-V keyboard shortcut to paste.)

  • SuperDrive Update 2.1 Error message at startup!

About a month ago there was a software update for superdrive, it was checked so i downloaded it. well ever since, when my computer starts up, the first program that opens up is "SuperDrive Update 2.1" and all it does is display a message "No updatable devices found". This happens every time i start up my macbook pro. Any ideas on how to fix/get rid of it?

If the icon for the updater is present in the Dock, control-click it and uncheck Open at Login from the menu which appears. Otherwise, remove it from the list of login items for your account in the Accounts pane of System Preferences.

  • Just loaded ios7 update onto ipad 2 and screen appears to be frozen on i tunes. how do I unfreeze

Just loaded recent update to IOS7 and the screen appears to be frozen with itunes logo and what appears to be the charger connection displayed. Is this normal and how do I get it unfrozen

The display is telling you to connect the device to itunes, some error occurred and you'll need to restore from itunes.  If the device is really frozen, it can't connect to iTunes or do anything else, then reboot it...
press and hold the home and power buttons until the Apple icon is displayed, then let go.

  • Combo drive won't burn cd

I have an iBook G4 purchased in 1/05. I've never really had a reason to burn a cd until recently when I purchased a digital camera. I loaded the pictures into iPhoto and tried to burn them to a cd. Everything seemed to be going fine. There was a message that the burn had been completed. My disk was ejected. Then an error message appeared, "The burn to the TEAC DV 24SL failed. The device failed to respond properly. Unable to recover or retry." There is no data on the disk and other attempts with other disks produced the same result.

I don't use iPhoto but you might try to do a burn from the Finder to see if your problems are iPhoto related or burning in general, stick a blank CD-R in the drive and then drag some documents/files onto the CD icon, when you're ready, burn the disc (under the File menu).

  • Superdrive Update incompatible?

I just installed Snow Leopard today, and it seems to have all went quite smoothly, except my Superdrive Update 2.1 application is in the Incompatible Software folder. Is this normal? Don't you kind of need this app?

If you are talking about something you called the "Superdrive Update 2.1 application" be advised that:
    1. This sort of file is not a normal application. You run firmware updaters once; they update the firmware in the Mac they are running on, & that's it -- the update to the firmware is permanent. If you try to run one of them again on the same Mac, it will just tell you that your firmware is up-to-date, it doesn't apply, & won't let you apply it again.
    2. The only Superdrive firmware updates I can find with version 2 numbers are for PowerPC Macs, which Apple hasn't made for several years. Not only would such a thing not be needed for an Intel Mac like yours, an Intel Mac couldn't even run its code. This is probably why the updater was moved to the Incompatible Software folder. That's where it should be because it is old & incompatible!
    3. Firmware updates only fix certain problems in the firmware of specific Mac models. There is no way to apply them to other models because the other models have different firmware. IOW, a Superdrive firmware update does not & can not apply to all Macs with Superdrives, just to the ones with the same firmware the update was written for. If you try to run the update on another model, you get the "not needed" message … *because it is not needed!*
In short, believe the messages you get & the behavior you see. They are correct & normal.

  • Now my superdrive won't burn any DVDs. Can someone help please?

    Hi.
I mentioned earlier in the 'won't burn dvd' topic that my Superdrive wouldn't burn DVD-Rs, saying there was a fault in the burning and the multiplexing.
Now it's spitting out my DVD+Rs as well. As a film student at a college that likes DVD submissions, this is terribly inconvenient. The computer gets as far as encoding everything, then spits out the disc as the burning begins.
I have tried completely re-loading my system, but still have a problem. Is anyone else having this problem and can they help me. Time is of the essence!
    Many thanks.
PS. Check my post on 'won't burn dvds' for more info!

Ok. As an addendum, I reset the PRAM and PMU. I also repaired disk permissions. I can burn DVD+R again at 2.4x speed. When burning, DVD-R, however, it spits out the disk and states (when I try to burn on its stated maximum speed of 2x): 'Unable to burn to "disk3" - The device failed to calibrate the laser power for this media..'
I'm not sure what that implies beyond the obvious: is there some sort of power control issue I need to deal with on the system?

I just updated my pages and now it won't load. This is on my iPad. The first version which has the latest version it can have 5.1 or something like that. I am trying to open a document and am worried that if I uninstall and reinstall I will lose all my documents

I just uninstalled it and am waiting for it to reinstall. I sincerely hope that I have not lost everything that I worked on so hard. Now that mobile me is gone, I have not been able to go between devices to transfer things. I was merely trying to take a document I had worked on and open it in pages, but it said my version was too old. When I updated, it wouldn't load. Now I cannot do anything. I hope that the reinstall fixes it without losing everything. Please advise!!! Yes, I am in panic mode.

I updated my Macbook Pro last week to Lion.  I went to go import pictures from a memory card to my iPhoto, but only a portion of them loaded before my iPhoto froze and I had to Force Quit it. Now iPhoto won't even open... Help!
Please! I need an answer fast!!!!

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • How can I fix my App Store on my iPod. When I go to the App Store and click on updates then click on purchased it won't load up the purchased apps. It says its loading then it flashes black and goes to my home screen. How can I fix it

My iPod has a glitch in the App Store. When I go to the App Store and click on updates then click on purchased it won't load up my purchased apps it says it is loading then it flashes black and goes to my home screen. How can I fix it??

Have you udated to iOS 6.0.1?
    Otherwise
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • MBP does not start upafter superdrive update

    Hi,
I just upgraded the superdrive firmware (don't remember the release) and the macbook no longer boots up. The screen is completely dark and does not react although I removed the batery and power cord.
    Any idea?
    Thanks.

    Same problem with me!
I trashed the Superdrive Updater 2.1. application from the utilities folder (beforehand made a backup and created a disk image from a folder with the application). That solved the problem.
I am very fortunate that my drive still works. Now it makes only a very short engage and disengate sound at reboot and appears to be somewhat slower.
Apple should not post firmware upgrades that do not work or are very critical. Actually I did not want to install it, I just wanted to download the updater software, but after restart the **** thing just started all by itself.
Apple definitely should fix that problem and N E VE R program a autorun at startup routine for a firmware updater!!!

  • My apps won't load after updating to iOS4.3.2. What to do?

My apps won't load after updating to iOS4.3.2. What to do?

Yes, I tried that (thanks for the suggestion, though!). In my music app, when I click on certain songs, the screen moves to try to start the song, but then it bounces back to the menu screen without playing the song. On many albums, when I click on the first song, a song about halfway through the album will start to play rather than that first song. My other apps seems to be fixed, but not the music function.

  • SuperDrive update?

I have updated the firmware 2.1 for the superdrive, I had a problem with the popup that comes up everytime I start the MBP(there's no drive to update). I seemed to have resolved that issue by deleting the update from my system preference/accounts/login items, and it doesnt come up anymore. My drive is still working! The firmware update is still in my utilities folder, were it should be, but my Questions are, A) can I delete the SuperDrive Update 2.1 safely by dragging it to the Trash, B) How can I tell if the Update took, is there a certain revision code or number that I can check, C) if it didnt take should I try the update again. Im asking these ? because I was told by someone at apple all you can really do to resolve the problem is do a Archive and Install, Ive never done this before and if I dont have to go through it, I would rather not, maybe alittle scared, I dont want to wreck my MBP or do something stupid.
Your expert advice would be greatly appreciated Thank you

I had the "no update available" problem on start up / login. My solution was to get rid of the updater (both the application and the updater.pkg which is located in library/receipts. This did the trick. And my DVD player works fine - I just copied a couple of DVDs and played the copied versions (old 16mm home movies that I had digitized).
I hadn't noticed the library receipts folder and I'm wondering if there is any functional advantage to keeping the receipts. There are 122 in my receipt folder and many of them weigh in at over a MB. Does anyone know if it is okay to just trash them? They all have the .pkg appended to the file name and they all appear to be updates. -JCB
