SuperDrive vibrating and making very loud noise

Whenever I finish ripping a CD, the SuperDrive starts vibrating (excessively?) and making a loud noise for about 10-15 seconds... I was thinking that was normal, but recently the noise has kept getting louder and this last time the whole MBP was vibrating so much I ejected it before the noise stopped...
Would this call for a visit to the Genius Bar?

Yes, a few months ago I noticed it making a lot of noise for 10-15 seconds after CDs finished ripping to iTunes, though I can't say for sure it wasn't doing that before. Within the last few days it's gotten so bad that the whole desk that the MBP is sitting is vibrating heavily... not normal, I assume. :/
This would be under warranty, right? (13" refurb MBP bought in Jan 2010)

  • Fan making really loud noises

    Hi,
The fan on my laptop is making very loud noises, like something's stuck in it, but after I took the entire laptop apart, and cleaned the dusty fan, the noise level is still the same (+3 extra screws now...=( ). Is there anything else I can do, or do I need to replace the fan? If yes, can I get a replacement fan at any normal computer store? The model is Compaq Presario V3233AU.
    Thanks!

So I just talked to an HP online specialist, and it turns out that it might not be the fan at all, and might instead be the hard drive making the grinding noises. I cleaned the fan, and my laptop temp has gone down significantly, so I'm not sure that was the problem either. The specialist said that I could take the laptop apart, take out the hard drive, and run the laptop to see if the noises continue to confirm if the fan is making the noises. If not, the hard drive is probably replaceable =P
However, he ALSO told me that I could continue using my laptop, regardless of the noises, which was confusing, as I assumed that anything wrong with the hard drive probably had to be fixed immediately for me to avoid losing all my data? Help! What should I do?!

Did my HD just crash and unrecoverable?  Time to replace my notebook?

I believe your hard drive has failed. Hope you have a backup.

Back up your system, make a Genius Bar appointment and take it in. If it's 4 months old you are still on warranty, let them fix it.

Anyone experience an issue with their DVR where it is making a loud noise.  Reminds me of the noise a PC makes when the power supply is ready to go...thoughts?
Thoughts?  It obviously has to be replaced.  You haven't stated the model number, but if you search these pages you will find many posts with the exact same problem you have described (for a given model DVR).  It's either the fan (in some models) or the hard drive, because there are no other moving parts.
These devices cannot be repaired in any reasonable way in your home, and the only solution is replacement.  Either contact Verizon, or use one of the FiOS stores for a replacement unit.

  • Very loud noise heeelp

I bought my macbook pro on ebay 2 years ago and have not had any problems with it until recently. It gets very hot when using it and makes a very loud noise if i smack the bottom of it the noise stops but recently it hasnt stopped andis getting worse. any ideas?

I suggest not 'smacking' your MBP.  The noise makers on a MBP are the fans and the HDD.  You could open the unit and see if dust and debris have accumulated inside and if so, clean it out.  Open Disk Utility>First Aid and run verify and repair.  Also running the Apple Hardware test might give some clues:

If no problems are identified, than an appointment at the Apple store genius bar is in order.
    Ciao.

  • HT3964 How do I stop my Macbook from overheating and making a fan noise?

My Macbook Pro 17 Inch keeps overheating and making a fan noise after I use it for... say... an hour.
I use Windows on my Macbook, is this related to my problem? If not, do I need to get my fan replaced?
It gets annoying whenever I play a game, and then suddenly my Mac goes to sleep for no reason (probably due to overheating).
The fan noise is kept to a minimal when I use a web browser, or listen to music, but it goes up when I start an application.

Since overheating is something the computer tries to prevent, it will shut down if the temps get too hot, thus your experience is not overheating.
You can have a look at Activity Monitor (Menu Bar > View > Show All Processes) and then sort by CPU to see what the culprit is during downloading.
A hot Mac is not that big of a problem, the fan takes care of the heat and if you do not mind the noise, then that is it.

Error -36 is an I/O error, which could indicate a damaged Catalog file, corrupted bitmap or (even worse) a dying HD.
I would recommend to run Disk Utility and perform a 'Verify disk'.
If lots of errors are found, try to save as much files as possible to another disk.
Then perform a 'Repair disk'. Repairing a catalog file or bitmap might cause loss of files, that's why I recommend to verify first and save the files, before repairing.

  • My cd/dvd rom vibrating and making noise sometimes...

im new on mac and im a bit scared about my problem...
some cd and dvd are making so much noise while im burning... i wonder if it damage my imac... im really afraid...

There had been a recent Firmware Update for some newer iMac and other
models, one of the items listed in Software Update (page in Apple Support)
says this item is presented as a cure for one issue; but maybe it does more.
    About SuperDrive Firmware Update 3.0:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3744
... the SuperDrive Firmware Update 3.0
This update will eliminate the noise made by the optical
disk drive during wake from sleep on your Mac.
Whether or not this, or other available updates for your
computer will address your concerns is hard to say. If
you have an issue with the computer and utilize your
AppleCare protection plan (as available in your region)
you may have options by calling them about the situation.
And if the optical drive and computer do get inspected
by someone authorized to handle the matter, they can
make a decision as to what they think is the problem &
what kind of lengths they may go to, if it needs a fix.
The Software Update application in your computer can
look and see what kinds of available software updates
are available for the computer. In the case of a Firmware
Update, there are specific rules on how to install those.
PS: optical media with paper labels should be avoided,
since in a slot-drive mechanism, the label may be off-
centered and make the disc wobble in the drive; and also
the paper labels can cause a disc to jamb in the drive slot.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Macbook Pro Lid Making Very Loud Cracking Noises

I recently got my Macbook Pro 13" screen replaced for a pixel defect. When I opened and closed my lid, the lid moved smoothly from either position.
Now, it feels as if the lid has more resistance when I operate it. Worst of all, when it is at a 90 degree angle and I slowly retract it, the lid makes a very loud "crack" from the hinge. Could it be that the lid's screws are in too tightly?

  • IMAC fan is making a very loud noise

    Hello,
    Does somebody has similar problem?
I switch on the iMac and the fan is making too much noise that I can not hear the sound on the computer and the there is a lot of air coming out.
It is on all the time and I already open a SR with the apple care to repair it, I left the computer for a few days in the apple center but they do not fix it, apple do not care about it.
I have this problem since I bought the iMac.
Sometimes it is no making noise it is quite.
I read that some iMacs have this problem and Apple did not do anything to sort this problem, at least mine was not fixed.
I bought the Apple care but it is useless because Apple does not want to fix this problem, they said that they were not able to reproduce the problem.
Any help let me know, please.
    Thank you.
    Maria

It can be caused because of different reasons: a process which is eating your CPU, a defective fan, a problem with the SMC, etc. First, reset the SMC > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If it doesn't work, run Apple Hardware Test > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509 This program will allow you to diagnose problems with the hardware of your computer, although this may fail and it may not show anything. When you run Apple Hardware Test, make sure you tick the box to run an extended test. Finally, if you see an error at the end, copy it here and copy it in a piece of paper and take your computer to an Apple Store or reseller, because it indicates that there's a hardware problem with your iMac and it must be fixed
