Superdrive won't accept anything

My superdrive gate is shut and it won't open for anything. I simply physically can't put a cd or a dvd -disk inside. I know it's empty so it can't be that. I've tried to eject the non excisting cd by using all the possible options (apple-keyalt+OF) and trying to eject pressing the eject button from all the possible places. None of these actions open the superdrive door/gate. The last disk I had inside was an A-region (NTSC) dvd, for which I had to change the dvd players region settings (normal here is region 2 PAL). Could this be the reason?
Is there any way or do I have to take my computer to a proper repair? Thank you for your time and trouble.

You cannot do self repairs on the iSight models. If this is the model you have, you will problaby need to take your computer to your local AASP if none of the suggestions work. Hopefully, you have AppleCare.

  • SuperDrive won't read anything

    Hi,
I have a Dual 2.5 GHz PowerMac G5 and out of nowhere the SuperDrive suddenly won't read anything. I put in a CD or DVD and it'll make a short whirring sound about every 4-5 seconds and then after the third time it automatically ejects the disc. Is my drive dead? The computer is still covered under my AppleCare protection plan. Do I need to just bring it in and have it replaced?
Any information I can get here would be great so i don't have to call up Apple support and wait half an hour for someone to tell me there's nothing they can do, and I have to bring it in.
    Thanks.

Hi. If AppleCare cannot fix the drive 'by phone'... they can send you a replacement drive to install yourself under the D-I-Y clause, para. 1.c.iv here

  • Superdrive won't accept CD.

    hello!
I have a problem with my superdrive on macbook.
So, it don't accept disks when it works. But if i turn off the computer and put disk to the drive(as we usually do it - more than half of CD), and turn on computer, it get it in! It take place with strange sounds. And than computer works with that CD normally. But than, if we eject it, it won't accept it again..
in programs such as TOAST TITANIUM i saw that they detect open tray. And can't close it.

I'm sorry to say that my iMac thats worked faultlessly for over a year has now succumbed to this problem, whenever I insert a blank CD-R or DVD-R it spits it right back out, interestingly enough it will accept burnt CD-R's but not DVD-R's (sometimes they get stuck in there and I have to restart to eject it), I have tried all of the "fixes" as stated above including an archive and install of Tiger and booting from my external HD with Panther but to no avail, looks like it was a good call to have an extended Apple Care.
I've searched a lot of threads about this and haven't found a solution I just hope Apple support doesn't try to fob me of about not using Apple blank media like some people have reported.

  • Help! FCE won't accept anything I export from MPEG Streamclip 1.9

I've searched the forums, and I've done it before, and this should be the answer:
Exporting from MPEG Streamclip to QT using the DV/DVCPRO-NTSC codec should work to make a movie FCE will import in the DV-NTSC Easy Setup without the need to render!
It doesn't work anymore. I swear. I've tried every Easy Setup, tons of combinations of MPEG Streamclip exports (all QT) and Easy Setup for the past 2 hours. No matter what export I try, FCE won't accept it without the need to render.
What am I missing? This has always been so easy. Please please help. Thank you.

this is EXACTLY what i have always done and am now doing and it no longer works. is there anything anyone can think of?

  • I can't set Firefox to open PHP files with Firefox (in preferences- applications-php files) Firefox won't accept anything but "always ask" and Preview. I want to preview php files in Bbedit and that requires that Firefox can open it.

with an open php file in Bbedit (Macintosh) it was possible to preview appearance by chosing "Preview in.." in Bbedit's "Markup" menu. This called Firefox to open and display the file. Now, doing this continually repeats a "Open with (choose)" request.

Unfortunately this solution doesn't work for me for local files (on my computer). Still I can only choose to open in Notepad or "other". It seems that I can select Firefox, but it won't do anything when I actually select it.... I did NOT have this problem with the previous version of Firefox (before 6.0.2). The only thing that's changed, is the Firefox update from yesterday (September 28th, 2011).

  • Help! Superdrive won't recognize ANYTHING after a forced shutdown!?

I was watching a dvd, and it froze up about 25 minutes in and the little rainbow wheel was up for about 10 minutes and I was in full screen so I couldnt do anything. So, I held in the button and forced it to shut off (with the dvd in). Now after that I started it back up only to find it wouldnt recognize the dvd, and just spat it back out after about 5 seconds or so (I couldn't hear it reading anything at all). I tried multiple times, 2 other dvds and a burnt music cd, it won't read anything anymore...and I just burned a cd earlier today and everything was working fine and I also had to put other cd's in that worked fine prior to this shutdown....Can someone please help?? Is there a disk reset or anything??? Any help is greatly appreciated! I also restarted and tried, shutdown and let it sit for the night and still nothing....please help!

That doesnt work I verified and repaired permissions via disk utility, but that did absolutely nothing. It is still taking in the disk, and I can hear a faint beep about 2 times and it spits this disk out after about 5 seconds. I cannot put anything in the drive, it just spits it out after a couple seconds. Everthing worked fine before this one thing happened....Is there anything I can do?

  • Superdrive won't accept discs, superdrive won't accept discs

last week i bought a usb superdrive for my new imac, and today after ejecting a disc it won't take a disc at all , makes no sounds nothing , plugged it into a diiferent computer and it ejected the disc i was trying to put in, but wouldn't let me insert one. i've checked that the computer is saying that there is a superdrive connected, but it comes up pale grey instead of black, and says no media present even though trying to insert disc.

A PRAM reset will not erase your HD. Because your machine is so new you should be callling AppleCare. You have 90 days of free AppleCare telephone support. If you havne't already I'd STRONGLY recommend you buy AppleCare. This will extend the warrranty to 3 years and also give you 3years of phone support. It is also transferable if you have time remaining and buy another iMac. If you don't know how to contact Apple directly please click

  • MacBook Air USB Superdrive Won't Accept Disks

We recently purchased a MacBook Air and our client wanted to have OS X wiped out and have Windows XP SP/2 only.
In order to accomplish this, we purchased the $99 MacBook Air USB Superdrive, booted to the OS X installation CD, ran the Disk Utility, wiped the hard drive, ejected the OS X cd, rebooted and inserted the Windows XP SP/2 installation CD. We installed Windows XP SP/2 and configured all the drivers via bootcamp.
The MacBook Air runs XP just dandy. Even the MacBook Air USB Superdrive was working within Windows XP SP/2 on the MacBook Air.
But recently, the MacBook Air USB Superdrive has been having problems. We can no longer insert a disk. Upon trying to insert a disk, the drive "pushes back" as if it's stuck in "eject mode."
Has anyone had this problem and if so, how did you resolve it?
    Thanks,

I had the same problem before. Seems like the XP driver has a problem and doesn't work when the drive is plugged in AFTER XP has started. Try plugging the Superdrive before you start XP and see if it works.

  • Superdrive won't accept DVD's

I've been having problems with my superdrive for I think a few months now. It started out that when I popped in a DVD it came up with an error that there are no volumes on this disk that Mac OS X can read or something like that (at this point I had Mac OS X 10.3.9). So I ordered a new superdrive from Apple (it was under warranty so it was free :)) and I installed it today and it came up with the same error. I had ordered a copy of OS X 10.4 upgrade and that arrived today as well so I installed it with no problems (lovin' Tiger by the way). I popped in a DVD again and it had the same problems. Somewhere I heard that maybe Classic was preventing it from working right so I got rid of that and then it came up with a different error: "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer.". Then I found that resetting some PVRAM or something like that might work. So I tried that and now it has that same not readable error. Can anyone help with this problem?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Vicki, you say you poped in a DVD.
What was it a Commercial Movie DVD or one that someone else burned? What kind of media DVD-R DVD-RW DVD+R DVD+RW.
Generally you can place a DVD in your drive and it will play if there is a Commercial Movie on it.
However go to your Apple and then choose System Preferences and then choose CD-DVD and when this box opens make the selections as to what you want to happen from inserting Blank media or to open the player for commecial DVD and the same holds true with CD's that could be your problem.
Having Classic on your machine should not have any bearing on your machines ability to recognize or play any media.

  • Labelflash-Ulead-Won't accept any images

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba A305-S6872. The system came with ULEAD Movie Factory 5. I am playing around with the labelflash and trying to make a label on ULEAD. I used the drop down to choose the D: Matish DVD Drive. Then when I try to add an image, it won't accept any image. If I put it on color it just does nothing.  But when I click texture and browse to find the image it tells me the image is the wrong format or corrupted. I ahve tried every available image on different media's. I have used pictures from my camera disk, the web, my files, etc. It won't accept anything. I have read the ULEAD manual and can't find any reference to the format. I am trying to make the label without a disk in because I just wanted to get familiar with the software. I haven't found the disk yet. Could that make a difference?
Does anyone have any idea what this could be?
    Thanks, Lynn

I had the same problem while trying to make a label for my disks.  It did not matter if I was using a printer or using labelflash, the ULEAD DVD program would not load images.  I searched hours on the support sites for my computer and the software. Finally I found that a service pak fix may be needed for some programs that might be entirely compatible with Vista.
    Try:
    http://www.ulead.com/spotlight/vista/runme_2.htm
Go to this site and download the appropriate service pak for your version of ULEAD DVD moviemaker.  I have a 5.3 version so I downloaded the 5 plus.  Now my pictures and images are accepted by the ULEAD program.  The entering choices of the program are different so you choose one, such as Audio/Data.  Then in the verbstrip Files you can choose label@once to make your disk label.
Hopes this works for you!  I'm not a computer geek.  Just your average person with a computer!

I tried to change my email address ID , but now when I try to buy an app or music it still shows my old email address  and won't accept my password which I did not change. What can I do as I can't download anything ?

What id shows in Settings > iTunes & App Store ? If it's the old one then tap on it and log out of it and then log in with the updated version

You made a purchase and exhausted the credit on your card before it processed. All purchases are final. Contact iTunes Store support. You need to settle up before you can purchase or download anything else.

  • Can't buy iCloud storage for second time on same card (accidentally missed .99c payment). Payment information won't accept  my country:region and will  not let me hit complete. Please help!!

Please help! I've cannot update/amend my payment info after accidently missing the payment for more icloud storage. I would like to purchase it again using the same card and it wont let me. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated!

Look, I understand I still need a card attached to the account. The problem is, it won't accept my card because I only have 87 cents in my bank account right now.
If I had known there would be so much trouble with the iTunes card, I would have just put the cash in my bank account in the morning instead of buying an iTunes card (I didn't expect the banks to be open on Thanksgiving of course).
Apple will only accept cards that have a balance. The balance is so small in my account that it won't accept it as a valid card.
I'm going to have to contact Apple anyway to reset the security questions. That's obvious. Your answers were not exactly helpful. You didn't tell me anything I don't already know, but thanks for trying to be helpful.

  • MCP 15 won't accept dvd/cd anymore

I have an Macbook Pro 15" and it won't accept any DVD or CDs anymore. The issue is both in osx lion and windows xp (bootcamp). It just pushes out the dvd/cd after a few seconds. They're not damaged. I'm trying to install a brand new game right now.
I don't know what have started this issue. I normally don't use this drive, so I have no idea when it first occoured.

    It worked!
My superdrive is as good as new. I can read and burn cd/dvd now.
