Superdrive won't eject from CD-Eject button on keypad...

but it will from the menu eject icon. I've replaced the keyboard with a brand new (Apple) keyboard. Same thing.
Okay...further investigation has yielded an additional complication...the whole top row on the keypad is not functioning. Mute, Volume up/down and eject have quit. The problem is I'm not certain when this happened so I cannot tell you if it is software related.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Another superdrive question. When using Eject key or
dragging disk icon to trash, the disk unmounts but is
not ejected. If I then use DiskUtility, and try to
eject the disk, I receive a 'Disk in Use' error.
Rebooting does not help. I have consistent success
by booting holding down the Control-OPtion-F-O keys
and typing 'eject cd' then booting the mac, but who
wants to do this often? The eject problem happens
perhaps 30% of the time, but once it starts I have
to resort to the modified bootup to correct.
Suggestions?
Do you have the "Energy Saver" System Preferences set to allow the drives to sleep? Some optical drive will not wake up to eject. OSX can do the dismount but the drive won't do anything.

  • My usb superdrive won't let me eject a disc

I recently purchased a usb superdrive so I could watch dvds on my macbook air. I watched one movie and went to watch another one which was a pirated copy of a movie! Once I put the movie in it didn't work and every time I try to eject the disc the cursor turns into that rainbow spinning circle. As well as my computer stuffing up and I have to shut it down to get it back to functionality again! I also tired command E and that didn't work either someone please help?

Re: My USB SuperDrive won't recognize or eject a disc.  What can I do?in response to GR Red Wings Fan
I too had a major problem with the Apple External Superdrive not ejection many of my DVD and CD disks. I would have to turn the dive upside down to get it to eject the disk in it …. completely unacceptable coming from Apple. You would have thought they would have bench tested the current Superdrive design, and fixed this issue before releasing it for sale.
Well, it looks like they may have tried to make a fix on some of the more recently produced Superdrives, I'll explain ….
If you are able to open the bottom plate of the Superdrive, take it off, you'll see that Apple has placed a small black foam square pad (about 1/2" square), at the top of the internal unit (at the top near the entrance slot). This small square foam rubber pad is not evident on some earlier Apple Superdrive units, indicating that Apple had figured out the internal unit was "hanging up" some disks inside by not being aligned with the slot properly (the tolerances were obviously designed very tight by Apple. So what they did was a "fix" where a piece of rubber was added to the internal component, that raise the internal drive better to allow the disc to eject better.
Here's the problem though, I my case, I had that small rubber piece in my Superdrive …. but it was still not ejecting discs like it should.
So after looking around youtube, I got an idea from a youtube video (thanks to "TheHobbieCollector"), and did it one better.
What needs to be done is just to follow-up on Apple's "fix" effort, but one better. The small rubber pad just needs to be "boosted" by placing another small rubber/foam pad (the same thickness), on top of the existing one (or a double thickness pad if your unit has no small rubber pad in the first place).
I hope the following photos are self-explaining as to what has to be done to "fix" the Apple Superdrive "ejecting" issue. I immediately noticed I had practically no more "eject" issues after having performed this single "fix" … but yes, I still have that rear occasion to have to turn the drive upside down to eject a stubborn disc … but this is very very rear for me after the "fix".
Hope this helps all with the same Superdrive "eject" issue
      1. Before opening the bottom plate, protect it from scratching …. open with a thin dinner knife or putty blade.
      2. This is what the bottom plate looks like, taken off, Note where the metal clips are located
       3.  Note the two small locator pins in the front of the bottom plate. It's important these are put in first
and correctly located when putting the bottom plate back on.
        4. This is a close-up of what the bottom plate clips look like. They are metal and pretty strong.
        5. This is the small rubber pad I mentioned, Some early Superdrives may not have this.
        6.  Another angle view of the "original Apple pad applied to the inside unit.
        7. The FIX … Applied another (same thickness as original), over the Apple original pad.  This gave enough
of a "boost in internal drive "alignment-to-eject slot" … without affecting the dive performance!
Use cut thin rubber strip, or foam (same thickness as Apple original pad) …. and double-sided tape, or
glue to affix on top of the existing Apple rubber pad.

  • Blank disk refuses to eject from my iMac G5's superdrive!

    Hello,
I inserted a blank disk that I was going to use to backup my iPhoto library with and it froze half way through the process of coping. I had to force quit the Finder! Now, I have tried everything and I cannot get this disk out! Somebody please help here. I have tried it all, but please let me know if I missed something:
    I tried the following:
    Terminal eject
    Finder eject
    Menu Bar eject
    Disk Utility eject
    Keyboard key eject
    Mouse on startup eject
I believe there is a "paperclip" method, but I am unsure. If there is and you have experience with performing that task, please let me know. Thank you all again!

The disk is probably still considered in use. Try restarting the computer and then see if you can eject the disk.

  • Volume eject from sidebar closes finder window

after successfully upgrading 2 machines (12" pb 1.5 GHz, mac mini Core Duo 2.33 GHz) to Leopard everything works beautifully except that finder windows close when I attempt to eject a volume (CD, DVD, memory sticks, server volumes). I usually have 2 windows in column view open and only the active window closes, yet the volume unmounts successfully. This happens in any other view (list, icon) as well.
Both computers were upgraded from the latest Tiger version and don't have any extensions or pref panes installed. The problem still occurs after a "safe boot".
    any help or ideas appreciated

I was a bit startled by this behavior as well. As near as I can determine, if the object the be ejected is selected in the sidebar then ejecting it closes that window. If something else is selected you can actually click the little eject button next to the thing to be ejected, it does eject, and the window stays open. I suppose this is logical: after all if something is selected in the sidebar, then Finder is displaying the window for the thing selected, and if that thing goes bye-bye then so should its window. The old behavior was actually illogical but we were used to it.

WD My Passport 1TB USB external drive randomly ejects from my iMac and MacBook Pro.
The drive is approximately 4 years old.  When the drive is plugged in, I can see the data.  It appears to be working properly.  The only problem is that everyone of my Apple Machines are ejecting it.   Several years ago, this drive connected to Mac machines with no problems.   I have tried two separate USB cords.  I have updated the firmware.  I have tried it on my MacBook, two different Macbook Pro's, and my iMac.
All give the same result of random ejection of the drive and the error message of:

Eject "1TB Passport HD" before disconnecting or turning......
Searching through the web, it seems this is an common/known problem.   Does anyone know the solution?

  • CD is not ejecting from the drive.

Hello Discussions, I'm in need of some help here.
The CD I put in earlier does not want to eject from the drive. The computer reads it and all, I can explore the whole CD, but when I press the Eject button it doesn't want to come out. I've tried some of the things I've seen posted in other topics, like pressing the Eject key or the mouse button during start-up. Nothing has worked.
When I press the Eject key the disc stops moving and it attempts to come out, but it stops halfway and goes back in, and the computer recognizes it again.
Now, I don't want to be answering my own question here, but I'm thinking something could be in the way of the CD when I try to eject it. I've looked in the drive, went with an index card just around the opening, but there's nothing there that can be stopping the CD from coming out.
The drive to the nearest Apple store takes at least an hour, so I'm trying to resolve this at home. Anything I can do to get this CD out? Or will I end up having to schedule an appointment and get this checked out by a Genius? Hopefully I can avoid the latter..
    Thanks for the help!
    PowerBook G4 12''   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi Javis,
I am experiencing EXACTLY the same problem as you with my 12"pb. The problem started immediately after doing a software update to OS X (10.4.9) and has never occured before that. Because of this i am hoping (and praying) this is a software issue, not a problem with the drive itself. Like you i can hear the drive begining to spit the disc out, but it never appears and the machine reads it again as if it were a new disc being inserted. I have tried everything i have found on the discussion forums, including rebooting with the apple, option, O and F keys held to enter the firmware control panel. typing 'eject cd' gives the same result as all other methods, even though the panel gives me the 'ok message'. I will let you know if i have any success....
I notice your post is from almost a month ago; have you had any success since then?
    thanks

You have entirely too little free space on the boot drive, for best performance it's best to have hard drives only 50% filled max and never more than 80% filled.
See Storage Drive here and reduce some space also make a seperate bootable clone backup of all your data BEFORE upgrading
    Most commonly used backup methods
see here for how to find your disk space
    Why is my computer slow?
If you upgrade and it doesn't go right or slows the machine down you might need to erase and install, which all your programs will have to be reinstalled from original sources and files from backup.
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
If you can't do this, then hire a local PC/Mac specialist.
Do not upgrade to 10.7 or 10.8 on that older machine, it will slow down and you will lose all your PPC based programs.

  • T500 loses screen when ejected from docking station

At my desk, I use a docking station with external monitor (DVI attach). If I eject from the docking station, my laptop screen goes dark. The only way I can make it work is to power down, eject, and reboot. It works fine then.
I have the ATI graphics card, and I don't think the switchable graphics is working. Is it possible to use the onboard Intel graphics when on battery power? This seems to be ideal.
    Any advice will be appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thanks for the suggestion.
I apologize for not including the model number. I wrote my question several times, only to lose it before posting. This BB works very differently from the one I use a lot.
The machine is a 2081-CTO with 4GB ram, DVD drive, and Vista as shipped from Lenovo. Vista is up to date.
Earlier, I ran the Lenovo system update, and it installed seven fixes, including a new BIOS. The fixes were all listed as optional. Once I installed these fixes, I am unable to eject and get my display working. However, the screen flashes a few times and my icons were rearranged. I have reset my icons several times in the last few days, and find this to be very disconcerting.
The laptop spends a great deal of time connected to the docking station, which has the attached DVI monitor. I do take it to client locations, so the working laptop display is essential. I have been experimenting with connection to a 40 inch HD TV, and when we changed the resolution on the video port (VGA) (to read it from across the room), it messed my laptop display and DVI display's resolution. I had to reset all my icons for that as well. All my icons stay on the laptop screen.

  • Is it possible to charge Ipod5G in Windows 2000 after ejecting from Itunes?

Is it possible to charge Ipod5G in Windows 2000 after ejecting from Itunes? but keeping it connected? I'm using a fairly powerful and new computer at work...loaded with Win2K (2000), and for some reason it doesnt want to charge once I've ejected it from Itunes.
My home computer with Windows XP works fine with this, I can eject, but keep it connected so it charges while i watch videos, or listen to music.
    Can anyone help?
also...the computer at work does have USB 2, and can charge properly...but only if the ipods screen says "DO NOT DISCONNECT"
    Thanks folks!

I have the same problem and the cause is with Windows 2000. My pc has USB 2.0 and no hardware problems either with the computer, ipod or cables. Basically Windows seems to be shutting down the power for the USB port as soon as Itunes completes its update every time. So the ipod gets a charge for a minute or two and that's it.
I have just been using another pc for the charge which is annoying - haven't found a solution yet although fiddling with the settings so that itunes is only started up manually may be a good workaround.
Other people have had the same problem in Win 2k with other models -

  • Apple supplied OS 10.6.3 dvd is ejecting from drive during OS upgrade

I have received DVD of OS Snow Leopard (10.6.3) from Apple by post. I wanted to upgrade my existing OS 10.5.8 Leopard to 10.6.3.
But when I was trying to insert the installation disk (OS 10.6.3) it immediately ejects from drive. I checked with other DVD and also my older DVD of OS. 10.5.5 to check the drive and those were working fine.
I tried to run the DVD of OS Snow Leopard (10.6.3) to detect by my Mac Book Pro (5.1) using various methods but failed: (1) tried pressing C-key during boot (2) pressing option key during boot (3) tried in safe mode. all failed. I reset SMC but all failed to read the Apple supplied disk.
I tried the Snow Leopard disk to read using my Windows PC. It was detected in Windows laptop (but .dmg file was not shown as it was not Mac OS).
    Please suggest.

That sounds as if the disc is faulty or unsuitable.
