SuperSuite Deal w/MS Office 2004

Hi All,
I purchased Office 2004 Student Teacher Edition and according to the "rebate" form in order to get the Office 2008 Edition sent to me directly I need to include orginal sales receipt and orignal product box top with the product name and barcode clearly identified. Now, I'm pretty sure I still have the receipt (otherwise, the apple retail store should be able to print me out a copy right). My big concern is figuring out what the product box top is. I have the cd-rom/dvd case w/manual and all. Does anyone know which part I send in??
Thanks!

This is an Apple forum. And since Office is not an Apple product, you should probably use a forum dedicated to Microsoft's Mac products such as <http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/community.aspx?pid=newsgroups> rather than an Apple forum.
Be sure to search the forum first in case someone has already had a similar question

  • Cant Play Sound Clips in MS Office 2004 Powerpoint

As the topic states, sound clips were working fine in PowerPoint a few weeks ago. Now when I go to preview a clip or insert a clip, I get the following error message:

    Hello hertzog 10.3.9
First of all, welcome to the Apple discussions.
Did you try the MS discussion forum?
Do a google search, as I did for you> an type 'powerpoint discussion forum' there are a lot of forums to search.
I use Powerpoint myself a lot, but had never any issues to deal with.
Let me know if so ...
Discussions is a ongoing process. Hope to see you around anytime you need us, or can offer help to others.

  • Office 2004 standard or professional?

I am wondering if I should get Office standard or professional. The cost is not so much an issue, since I can have a student deal with my school (for the MS Student Select Office 2004, standard or pro).
I know the basic difference is that the professional version has Virtual PC, but I'm not sure I 1) understand what it does 2) if it's worth the additional memory space needed to install it.
    Thank you for helping me!

The only difference between Standard and Professional is VirtualPC.
    What it does (VirtualPC):
Allows you to run a copy of Windows (in a window) on your Mac. And it will facilitate sharing files between your Mac and this copy of Windows. It's useful if there is some Windows only program that you absolutely need (or want) to run on your Mac.
Is VirtualPC worth it: That depends. If you need Virtual PC to get work done than yes, it's worth it. If you don't NEED it, but just want to run a Win only game or app, then sure, again, it's worth it.
The fact that you are asking what VirtualPC is though, pretty much suggests you don't need it. Not to offend, but if you needed the program you would already know what VirtualPC does.
    Hope that helps.

  • Microsoft Office 2004 so SLOOOOOW

This computer, running principaly Office 2004 (plus Safari usually) seems to be just about the slowest computer I've ever used.
Opening pretty much any Word/Exel file takes so long (upwards of 10 seconds for a regular sub-500K Word doc) that I sometimes think the computer has frozen.
Finder operations seem very sluggish too.
Any ideas why, and what can be done to speed things up?
    Adam

I suggest you head toward the Microsoft Office:Mac forums found at http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/community.aspx?pid=newsgroups
That group is dedicated to user questions about MS Office:Mac applications. You'll find more answers in that forum rather than an Apple forum dealing the installation and setup of OS X.

  • Buying Microsoft Office 2004 on Ebay?

I am looking into buying Microsoft Office 2004 for my MBP and I'm looking for the best deal. On my search, I have found a number of them on Ebay, selling for really cheap. Some of the MS Office software being sold is opened (and has apparently been used.) How does this work? Can you really buy MS Office on Ebay and install it on your computer? I thought once it was installed on someones computer, it would be registered and nobody else could use it. And, doesn't Microsoft know when a version has already been used? It does seem legal, I guess, because many people have it posted on Ebay. What is the deal?

The EULAs normally say, that it is fine to give a copy to a third person as long as no copy remains with the vendor. So it should be no problem to buy this as long as the guy you buy it from has uninstalled his version. You might want to send him an email about this so you got his reply as a "proof" that you were in good faith. I don't think that Office 2004 makes use of such extensive privacy intruding means like XP Activation.
Still: if it is just too good to be true: check twice. You don't know where this piece of software is coming from.
Still: there are new copies on the market for students that contain three licenses. So if you know some other people, why don't ask them to share it with you. The package costs about 180€ here in Germany, as far as I know.
Still: Office 2004 is not universal and MS is not planning on rereleasing this. They say, it's fine with rosetta. I have not used it much, yet, but I have seen people reporting crashes and problems (esp. with entourage) after the 10.4.6 OS X update. So before you invest a lot of money, think twice (I wouldn't want to pay more then 100 USD for a piece of software that only runs under rosetta and only WILL run under rosetta...)

  • Trouble installing Office: 2004 for Mac

Hello. I hope someone can help me. So here's the deal.
I've been using Office X for some time. I bought Office 2004 for Mac (Student Teacher Edition) from a friend who upgraded last May. I got the manual and the Product ID with it. I never got around to Installing it, but my hard drive failed recently and Apple replaced it, obviously without any of my stuff on it.
So I decided if I have to reinstall all my software, I'd go ahead and use the Office 2004 as I don't think the Office X is fully compatible with Tiger (because of it's age and a few issues I've had with it over the past two years). Now, here's the problem. When I tried to install it, the product ID didn't work as the Product/CD Key. I called my friend and she no longer has the box or the Product Key, and of course, the Product key from my Office X doesn't work.
So now I'm stuck. Is anyone familiar with Office 2004 for Mac? Is there any difference between the "retail" version and the Student/teacher version that would prevent the Product Key from one with working with the other? Would anyone be willing to share their Product key with me, to install the software so I can get back to work?
I've already lost 4 days in time (and have to recreate 2 days worth of work that was done after my last file backup) and don't have time to deal with this stuff.
I may be contacted directly at robertben1 at comcast dot net.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions/help.

    Sorry, that would be illegal.

  • Will my Microsoft Office 2004 still work if I upgrade to Yosemite (currently using Snow Lepoard)

I never upgraded to Maverick because of a pop-up warning that suggested my older Microsoft Office program would no longer work.  Don't really want or need to deal with paying for a new Office, esp a subscription based on.  Trying to decide if upgrading is worth the hassel or if it is even a problem.  Thanks for your help! Ken B, Ashland Oregon

MS Office 2004 has not been compatible with OS X since Lion, OS X 10.7. You will need to either purchase a new license of MS Office or you can use one of the free MS Office look alikes such as LibreOffice (http://www.libreoffice.org/). You also may still be able to find MS Office for Mac 2011 which works fine on Yosemitie, you can find that on Amazon and even Ebay.

  • Can I restore Office 2004 from Time machine backup

    Hi Guys,
I have managed to delete office 2004 when I was trying to install office 2008 using a friend's copy. Office 2008 will not work for me as it needs online registration.
I no longer have the office 2004 install disk. Is it possible to re-install office 2004 from my time machine backup. I can see it is available in the backup from before yesterday but not sure if I try to restore what will happen.
    Any advice appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Hi PaulieHK,
Open Finder on you original view desktop.
No go to Application folder and select the Office 2004.
NOW, select the Time Machine icon in the dock and it will bring you back in history.
You can go back before you tried to install Office 2008.
Select IN Time Machine the application Office 2004 and click on PUT BACK.
Time machine will now put back the situation as it was before the installing Office 2008.
When you see your original desktop again try to open Office 2004.
    Good luck ...

  • I have 1 GB RAM on an '07 MacBook Pro. 1) How do I check remaining memory? 2) I have Microsoft office 2004 - do I need to buy more RAM to upgrade to '11? 3) I need a new battery ... Is it worth the $$ to buy a new battery, RAM and Microsoft office 2011?

I have a MacBook Pro from '07 with 1 GB of memory. The battery is shot and my AppleCare has run out. I just upgraded the OS to 10.6.8. But a few questions:
1 - How do I even check how much memory I have left on this computer?
2 - How do I check how many battery cycles are left?
3 - I want to upgrade to Microsoft Office '11 because I don't have Adobe Acrobat to creat pdf's and I need to be able to do this for school... Instead of buying acrobat, I figured I would just upgrade to Office '11 because I can generate pdf's from Word. Roughly how much RAM does Office '11 take up?
4 - Does Apple still make batteries for this computer (from '07)? How much do they cost?
5 - How much does 1 more GB of memory cost?
AND lastly -- is it even worth it to spend the $ on more RAM, a new battery and Office '11?
Or does it make more sense to just get a new computer entirely? (trying to avoid this).
ANY help would be sooo appreciated! Thanks.

1 - How do I even check how much memory I have left on this computer?
If you're asking how to check to see if you need more RAM, open Activity Monitor and go to the System Memory tab, then compare page outs and page ins.  If page outs is 10% or more of page ins, you probably need more RAM.
2 - How do I check how many battery cycles are left?
There's no limit on the number of battery cycles, it's just that the more cycles you've used the more "worn out" your battery gets.  You've got a 4-year-old machine, and if it's still got the original battery, it's probably about time for a replacement battery.  You can check battery health using System Profiler...  look at the Power section under Hardware.
3 - I want to upgrade to Microsoft Office '11 because I don't have Adobe Acrobat to creat pdf's and I need to be able to do this for school... Instead of buying acrobat, I figured I would just upgrade to Office '11
You don't need Office 2011 to create PDFs.  Any application capable of printing can create PDFs on a Mac.  Just choose File -> Print, but instead of clicking the Print button in the print dialog, click the PDF button and choose Save As PDF in the menu that appears.
4 - Does Apple still make batteries for this computer (from '07)? How much do they cost?
5 - How much does 1 more GB of memory cost?
I'll "ditto" sig's answers to these.
AND lastly -- is it even worth it to spend the $ on more RAM, a new battery and Office '11?
Or does it make more sense to just get a new computer entirely? (trying to avoid this).
If Office 2004 is still working fine for you, stick with that and don't incur the costs of Office 2011.  As to the RAM, only add more if the test I mentioned above indicates that you need it.  If you buy more RAM when you don't really need it, you won't see much (if any) performance improvement.  That just leaves the battery...  and if the machine is still doing what you need it to do and you don't really need a new machine for anything, you could definitely buy a new battery and get a few more years out of it.

  • Why is Mac Office:2004/2008 acting strange?

After I upgrade to Lion 10.7.3 over a month or so, I experience problems with some of my documents in Word or Excel.  The Excel opens to READ only and I am the only pperson that has the priviledge for it.  Also when I go to leave a cell, the curson locks on the cell and grabs everthing in the path I move my mouse.  I try to click it loose and nothing happens.  After a while I do get back control of the document, but again it begins to behave strangely.
In my Word documents, I would be typing and all of a sudden the curson is some other place on the page inserting my input in the wrong place.
I have spent hours on the phone with the tech support people with Microsoft and Apple, but no one seems to be able to have my errant software work properly. In my furstration I purchased the 2011 version of Mac Office.  I stll have the same problems after installing it.
I just realized also that when I did an upgrade of the MS Mac Office:2004 to 2007, I continued to save my documents in the 2008 version, but selected the 2004 format to save them.  I understand that 2004 will not even open in the Lion OS X.  So I am beginning to think I may have created an anomoly by intergrating the two versions while in the Lion OS X version.  Does anyone have any nsight to this?
Also as part of my frustration with this software proble, I am not able to restart or shut down my Mac Mini from the drop down menu.  The wheel just spins and spins for minutes and minutes, so I finally do a power shut down.  The restart it by pressing the power button again to turn it on.  Any clue to fix this problem.
My Mac Mini is a 2009 vintage.  I am not an extremely knowledgable computer person.  I need help.  Thanks!

I have contacted them many many times.  For two days I waited on the phone for over 1 1/2 hours.  All total I have been on the phone with them over 6 hours and they are not able to find any problems with what I am experiencing.  Thus I fell there is something with the Lion OS X that is the main source of this glitch.  Thanks for your input.

Microsoft Office 2004 (Word) unable to save files
I have been running Office 2004 on my Intel iMac with Snow Leopard for some time and all of a sudden I cannot save a document. Word just stopped responding and I have to force quit. I can open Word and create a new document but I cannot save it. I reinstalled Word but that didn’t help. Then went to the Internet and found at least one other Mac user having the same problem which it suggests is caused by a recent Mac Security Update:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2004-macword/word-2004-wil l-not-open-or-save-documents/b04eb870-9b0d-4f3b-bb47-b122301e36f6
So I check for a new Mac Security Update and sure enough there was one. I downloaded it and now Word seems to be working, as it should. I can both open and save files. The only problem remaining is that when I open Word I get the following error message “An unexpected error occurred while trying to load the Microsoft Framework library”. I contacted Apple but they were unable to help.
How can I get rid of this error message?

Look, I realize you might have to get your machine working, so this is how you revert back.
    Restore proceedure to pre-Security Update 2012-001 v 1.0 & v 1.1
#1 Backup your personal data off the machine.
Backup files off the computer (not to TimeMachine). If you don't have a external drive, get one and connect to the USB/Firewire port and simply drag and drop copy your User folder to the external drive, it will copy all your files. It's best to have two backups of your data off the machine when trying to restore.
Disconnect all drives now to prevent any mistakes from occuring.
    #2 Reinstall OS X 10.6 from disk
Get out your 10.6 install disk and make sure it's clean and polished (very soft cloth and a bit of rubbing alcohol, no scratches) If your disk is borked, you'll have to order a new one from Apple with your serial number.
Hold c boot off the 10.6 disk (wired keyboard, internal optical drive), use Disk Utility First Aid to >Repair Disk  of your internal drive  (do not format or erase!!), Quit DU and simply re-install 10.6.
Note: Simply reinstalling 10.6 version from disk (without erasing the drive) only replaces 10.6.8 with 10.6.x and bundled Apple programs, won't touch your files (backup anyway)  or most programs, unless they installed a kext file into OS X itself. (only a few on average do this)
    #3 Update to 10.6.8 without Security Update 2012-001 v1.0 or v1.1
Reboot and log in, update to 10.6.8 via Software Update, but EXCLUDE THE Security Update 2012-001 by checkinig the details and unchecking the blue check box.
#4 Reinstall any non-working third party programs
When you reboot, make sure to reinstall any programs that require kext files installed into OS X, you'll know, they won't work when you launch them or hang for some reason as they are missing the part they installed into OS X.
If for some freakish reason you get gray screen at any time when booting (possible it might occur when you reinstall older programs), hold the shift key down while booting (Safe Mode, disables kext files) and update your installed third party software so it's compatible with 10.6.8.

    That's it really.

  • Unable to download Office 2004 11.2.3 update

I keep getting notices from Microsoft that an 11.2.3 update for Office 2004 is available. However, after downloading this patch on my 56K modem twice, at 5 hours a shot and after several broken attempts, when I've then tried to install it on the HD I get an error message that says I "do not have the platform needed to install this program." My OS is 10.3.9, which it should work with.
I don't understand why 11.2.3 wouldn't consider 10.3.9 acceptable. I've looked at my About Word info to see whether, maybe in an alternate universe, I already downloaded and installed Office 11.2.3, but all it says is that I have Word Version 11.2, which I guess could be anything from 11.2.1 to 11.2.3.
    My questions are:
    (a) Can I find out whether I already have 11.2.3 without knowing it? (In which case I think the error message should say, "You already installed this; what are you, Rip Van Winkle?")
    (b) If--as I deeply believe--I never installed 11.2.3, can anyone tell me why it would refuse to install itself on a platform it's supposed to like?
    (c) Do I really need it anyway? I see from other people's posts that Powerpoint seems to develop problems with 11.2.3, and I use only Word, which has been pretty stable in Office 2004 for Mac and rarely freezes or crashes. So maybe I should resist trying to fix what isn't broken? I would be happy not to have a reason to download 11.2.3, except that I'm afraid I may be missing something important. (Like screwing up Powerpoint.)
Thanks very much for any suggestions.
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   15"

The updates are not cumulative. You need to download
and install each update from 11.2.1 thru 11.2.3.
Kappy: I tried downloading and installing 11.2.1, with the plan to download and install the other two if 11.2.1 worked. And the program verified upon completion that the installation was successful. However, when I tried to trash the 11.2.1 installation folder as instructed, I got an error message saying that I "did not have sufficient privileges" for the maneuver, and when I opened Word to see what version of Office 2004 I had now, it just said 11.2, not 11.2.1. So I guess my efforts to keep up with modern technology are doomed after all.
On the other hand, since I'm a home-office user and the only one using the application (i.e., I'm the Administrator, but not on an Exchange), I guess there's no harm in not having the updates. Since the issues the three patches resolve seem to be mainly Exchange issues, I don't really need them. But I do appreciate the helpful information from you and Bob Gold--thanks very much.

  • Anyone using office 2004 for mac, please help!

    Dear all,
i know this is probably the wrong place for this post, but i've always been able to find my answers here..so genuine apologies in advance
i bought office 2004 for my macbook a few months back..i'm able to open word, excel etc no problems...but when i am typing in word on a regular document..my spellcheck does not work..even where there is obvious spelling problems,it does not highlight it with a red line underneath...when i run a spell chenck,it tells me its complete and the spelling and grammer are complete, when they are obviously not!!
in the compatibilty report it tells me that that word cannot identify text language...when i select language dialog box and english (uk)nothing changes
I've also just realised that when i type in a word notebook document, spell check works!?!??!
Anyone any ideas,i have a dissertation due for college in a few days and i need it to work!!!
again apologies if this is out of order posting here,
    regards,
    Paul

how do i uninstall office completely???
Before you do an uninstall you may want to test your preference files for corruption. There are three which can become corrupeted, but probably only the first two will be of issue.
Quit Word and any other Office Applciations.
Browse to your User home account and locate the following files:
    ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/com.microsoft.Word.prefs.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/com.microsoft.Office.prefs.plist
(the third has to do with fonts and I don't think that is at issue)
Drag these to your desktop and relaunch Word. Word will re-create these files.
If all works as it should you can trash these files. You will probably have to reset some preferences and Autocorrect settings. Be careful of what you reset as that may have been the cause of the issue.
If this does not work you may replace the newly created files with the ones you dragged to the desktop, or you may try re-installing Office.
If you want to completely remove Office and attempt a re-install to see if it corrects the problem: The uninstaller is located in HD/Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Additional Tools/Remove Office.
I understand that you are in a timecrunch with your paper being due. I am sure with enough troubleshooting that you can and will find a solution to the Office problem. If the above steps do not work, however, you may also want to have a look at the free NeoOffice suite to get your paper done in the meantime.
    http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/index.php
I am not including the link as a means of trying to pawn off the problem as I think any problem is ultimately fixable, but it may give you an option to meeting your deadline.

  • Office 2004 crashes in Leopard when using File print option.

Office 2004 apps all crash when I try to print using File>print but they will print if I just use the printer icon. Any ideas?? I have updated Office to 11.3.9 and uninstalled and reinstalled the printer. BTW, the printer is an HP Laserjet All-in-one model 3330. Everything else I've tried seems to print ok -- Safari, Adobe, Pages.
I would like to upgrade three other machines but I'm waiting until I get this print problem resolved.
    Thanks.

Well I feel sort of stupid, I was using the HP driver. Switching to either of the drivers supplied with Leopard fixed this problem. Thanks.

  • Word in Office 2004 OS 10.3.9 crashes every time I open a document...?

    Hi,
I"m not sure this is the appropriate forum for this, but I thought I'd try here...
I've been running Office 2004 on my G4 for many with no problem. I do very little, occasional Word documents and some Excel. I've stayed at OS 10.3.9 for ages, since I'm stuck there because of my Pro Tools hardware. I change nothing with my system unless something goes wrong. At some point about six months ago, for no apparent reason, every time I tried to open any Word document on the Mac, I would get a message from Word saying that corruption was detected in the document, and would I like to attempt recovery. I click "Ok", then Word crashes. This happens on any and all Word documents. These documents open fine on other computers, Mac or PC. They are not corrupt. But I suppose something is? I Googled around and tried a fix deleting the "FontCache(11)" file from Microsoft/Preferences, but that didn't work. I installed the two major service packs for Office 2004. No go.
If anyone has any tips for what to try next I'd appreciate it! Thanks - Steve

There should be some kind of evidence of the cause of crashes, in general
within the system's Console utility; where logs of several types activity are
located. These may be hard to decipher since they are written in geek.
    You may try something other than Office 2004, for the occasional document;
since Open Office or Neo Office is updated more often and they are free.
Also consider a second hard disk drive where a later OS X version can live.
Fonts may be a fair place to look; since they can be a cause of odd behavior.
However in an older system, other things may be at work to make a problem.
Not sure what else to say; except the symptom includes use of MS Office...
The Console logs (or in some cases, see System Profiler's log files) may
be a way to see if there are any clues left behind, from the crashes.
Do you have a backup clone of the computer and its contents? It may be
a good idea to take some time and investigate the issue(s) and maybe go
into the computer and do housekeeping. With a complete backup you could
check the computer's hard disk drives, and move everything on/off the Mac.
The holistic approach can help, if one has time to do several things at once.
    And carefully, in any event...
    Good luck & happy computing!
