Supervised iPads & iBooks Author
Since Apple opened up Apple's supervision model a bit with iOS 7 (now able to browse the device and import photos/videos).. I was hoping Apple would also enable supervised iPads to function as preview devices when using iBooks Author.
iBooks Author has a preview button that will allow you to preview an ebook on an iPad. Unfortuntately when I connect a supervised iPad to iBooks Author, the device is greyed out and beside the device name is says "No ATC". Anyone have any ideas what this means?
cheers,
Evan
I fixed this by plugging in the iPad (I believe it would be similar on the iPhone or iTouch) to the computer, and starting iTunes on the computer. Also selecting "Trust this computer" on the iPad.
Then in iBooks author, the "No ATC" went away. I don't know what it means, but I presume it means it had No Authorization to Talk to the Computer - whether that is the correct acronym I don't know, but it is something like that. ;-)

Lag in drag with easing interaction on iPad/iBooks Author
Hi folks,
I'm doing a drag and drop section in a children's iBooks project that I'm working on and I need it to have some easing.
It works great when I preview it in a browser on my mac, but as soon as I've put it onto iBooks on the iPad it's a bit poor in performance. It does do the easing, but it's a bit jerky at times, this is just about OK, but what isn't OK is that there is a noticable lag (about half a second) between clicking on the 'draggable' <div> and it responding.
I know from reading that this is meant to be down to the need for the iPad to be able to detect if this is going to be a swipe or some other interaction othan just a 'click'.
I had also read that the 'touch-punch' jQuery plugin would sort that lag out.
I have opened the package contents and manually dragged over the relevant libraries for the 'touch-punch' plugin, but it's not working.
Any ideas?
The code I'm using in the composition ready section of the stage is as follows:
yepnope(
nope:[
'js/jquery-ui-1.9.2.custom.min.js',
'js/jquery.ui.touch-punch.min.js',
'css/jquery-ui-1.9.2.custom.min.css'
complete: init
function init() {
sym.$('draggable').draggable({
helper: function(){
// Create an invisible div as the helper. It will move and
// follow the cursor as usual.
return $('<div></div>').css('opacity',0);
drag: function(event, ui){
// During dragging, animate the original object to
// follow the invisible helper with custom easing.
var p = ui.helper.position();
$(this).stop().animate({
top: p.top,
left: p.left
},1000,'easeOutCirc');
If anyone had any thoughts or tips that woudl be great.
Thanks,
TomJust incase anyoe is wanting a solution to this I found another jQuery plugin called PEP which is VERY responsive and works really well for drag and drop on either tablet or desktop.

I'm still curious if anyone has any ideas on why the touch-punch doesn't work though. Anyone? -
IBooks Author for iPad, ePub for iPhone?
I understand iBooks Author creates books ONLY for iPad.
So what happens If i want the book I am working on for iPhone as well? ... Do I create 2 versions:
iPad - iBooks Author Multi-Touch edition
iBooks - Standard ePub version
Is there a way for me to state the iBooks version to ONLY show up for iPhone and iPod Touch .... ? So I am effectivly putting on 2 different books ...
Thanks,
BenAt this time, beyond the categories you can choose from in iTunes Producer/Assets, how you describe your app is basically up to you Apple will let you know if they disagree.
The Yellow Submarine book is epub and available for both iPhone and iPad....you may want to take a look at it for ideas, etc.
As always, feel free to use the 'Provide iBooks Author Feedback' menu item for features you'd like added in the future, etc.

Ibook Author can't preview message
Hi,
I have almost finished my book in iBook Author. Today I added short titles to the videos. I've got 50 videos throughout the book. But when I started to Preview the book on iPad IBook Author says it Can't preview. it loaded perfectly fine on iPad till today. This is a screenshot.
After I added the video titles my file jumped up from 170Mb to 225Mb. I know the file is huge but how 50 short lines can expand it to 55 MB.
May the file size be the reason that it doesn't upload the book to iPad? I uploaded for the test the previous versions and it works fine, but not the new file.
Does IBA have a file size limitation to upload it to iPad?
Any ideas?
Best regards,
JaSokIssue resolved.
I think it's a file size issue. I managed to reduce the file back to 170 MB and it loads fine now. But the reason of file expansion to 50 MB was that I applied the character style for video labels to make it ALL CAPS via Widget tool. This simple step added 50MB to the file. -
I am in the process of authoring an eBook using iBook Author. The project is a work in progress and I want to share the draft with other collegues. We each have our own iPads synced with other computers and we have different iTunes acounts. I attempted to preview the book on the new iPad, but the iPad did not come up in the available device window.
Am I missing something or is there a way around this?How to use multiple iPods, iPads, or iPhones with one computer

I recently created a number of books using iBooks Author. They are all part of a larger project, but due to size issues, individual sections were broken up into separate e-books. Each one of these e-books has different content and different cover graphics to differentiate between sections. Once finished, I exported each of them as iBooks and then uploaded them to my iPad. On the Books screen, all the iBooks show up just fine with the appropriate cover graphic and titles. When I select one to enter, its cover graphic zooms in and then the book opens into the table of contents. However, the second book I open always reverts to the cover graphic from the first book I entered. It will access the right content, but the cover graphic pulls up as the wrong section, which may lead to some confusion (given the manner these books will be distributed). After leaving it alone for a little while, I can usually access another book and have it pull up the correct cover graphic, but when I enter the second book, the same problem resurfaces.
Any thoughts on how to fix or troubleshoot this?Update: Solved.
Either creating a new file or saving the old as a template file & renaming it solved my problem.
Here is the discussion where I found that information:

Currently the inset margins I set for caption text in the gallery widget resets to zero when previewed on different iPads. These are galleries with different images and the captions are set to “individual caption per image” in the interaction panel.
BUT the inset margins will preview correctly if the gallery caption is set to “same caption for all images” in the widget interactions panel. How does one go about fixing this in iBooks Author? Would love to hear others advice or suggestions or work arounds. Thanks!I found this article that shows the folder we are looking for is here --
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iBooksX/Data/Documents/AEAnnotation/
per http://mjtsai.com/blog/2013/11/06/the-problem-with-ibooks/ and http://computers.tutsplus.com/tutorials/beyond-highlighting-how-to-get-the-most- from-your-annotations--cms-20013
So I opened the files in TextWrangler to search for a word I know I highlighted in a particular book. That helped me identify the correct file for the book I am concerned with. I did a Time Machine restore of the file and got my notes back the way they were. -
I have created an ibook in ibook author and it appears in ibook on my Mac. How do I get it on my iPad. It is too big to email.
You can install MAMPon you mac (free web server, no configuration needed).
Put ePub file in Applications/MAMP/htdocs and you can download locally (quicker than Dropbox, Mega, etc...)
On your iPad's nevigator type:
http://mac_local-lan_IP:8888/NameOfYourBook.epub
You can see local IP on: System Preferences/Lan or System Preferences/Sharing
iPad and Mac must be in the same lan/wifi network.
Best regards. -
I deleted my ibooks author file but the preview is still available on my ipad, can I get the ibook back into ibooks author to continue to edit? I have not published anything, just previewed on my ipad but the file seems to be deleted from my imac which is what I was using ibooks author on. Any help is welcome!
It's not a 'process' at all.
If it was easy/straightforward, people would be turning store versions into iBA versions left/right and all **** would break loose. It's not and that's a good thing, sorry
Work up from whatever version you have.
Any work you value should be backed up....period. That backup should be used and tested regularly. Consider this a lesson learned, perhaps. Good luck in the future. -
IBooks Author stopped recognizing my iPad
Hello everyone, ibooks author stopped letting me publish a preview to my iPad. When I click on preview, it doesn't show any devices attached. iTunes can see my iPad (and iPhone for that matter). Any ideas?
I've seen similair forums, but the key difference is iBooks Author let me publish previews in the past. However it doesn't recognize my iPad (or iPhone). I know my MacBook is recognizing them (as they show up in iTunes and in the finder).
Help?It's been that way for me for a while now...works when it wants
The alternative, of course, is to Share/Export as an .ibooks file, then drop into iTunes, then sync.

IBooks Author app for iPad?
Is iBooks Author available as an app for iPad or only for laptop/desktop?
There are a number of apps available from the Apple app store which enable eBooks to be created on an iPad. They are obviously not as interactive or as functional as iBA, although Book Creator which I have used creates ePub files.
Unlike iBA, most of the content needs to be prepared outside the app and inserted. There are quite a few such applications so you would need to evaluate each against your needs.
Pages is available for iPads so I assume that it will produce ePubs as it does on Macs.
If your ambitions for creating eBooks to distribute via the iBookstore, iBA is the best application currently available although InDesign seems to be the choice of those creating "novels" with minimal illustration.
I do not have any connection in any way with any of the apps other than as a user. -
IBooks Author is for iPad or not. It sayes in the download, only for OSX
iBooks Author is for iPad?
The download says it is only for OSX.
Can anyone explain?
Rgds tst at internet.isIf you want to create eBooks on iPad only, there is Apples "Pages" that be installed on iPads and also, there are a number of apps in the store for making ebooks on iPad. I use "Book Creator" from Red Jumper which has a free trial version.
However, if you want the books on Apples store... you need a Mac computer or use a third party who can do this for you. -
This must be easier than I'm making it, but I've just bought a new Ipad Air2 and can't get Ibooks Author on to it at all. It doesn't appear in App store, and when I email the content it just stores it on drive, which I'm not sure how to access. I may be taking forever to complete the book I'm attempting, but don't want to lose it altogether, and eventually intend to sell the desktop Mac. Anyone any suggestions for this. I'm sure it must be really easy, but am virtually new to tablet use. I have managed all music and photo content, but just can't see how to do this at all. All help really appreciated.
Have a look at
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/book-creator-for-ipad-create/id442378070?mt=8
But I don't think it is realistic to imagine that an iPad can replace a desktop for what iBooks Author can do. -
Enhanced book for iPad, built on iBooks Author
Hi all
I am sorry if these are similar questions to ones asked before, but I wondered if things might be different since they were last asked.
I have delivered an enhanced book built for iPad and it is currently in the review status, not in 51 stores. My questions (of which I have heard many myths about):
1) As it's an enhanced book (created on iBooks Author), there are lots of videos, galleries etc which make the publication about 1 gig. I have heard that although there is a 2 gig limit, some authors have had responses from Apple saying that it should be kept to max 200mb and therefore rejected. True or false do you reckon?
2) Mine is a travel guide about a specific area of Spain and it is all about solutions to the traveller. Therefore as well as lots of text, there is a Useful Links section that links to companies websites such as car hire - their logos are next to the URL's in my book. Do you think Apple will be ok with their logos visible and external web links? It is simple to remove it if necessary but in truth it is a resource for my readers.
3) I have heard varying reports of 3 hours to 55 days for the review process to be complete. Does anybody know if it is longer for an enhanced book due to the complexitied of its build?
4) I have heard reports that if it fails, Apple will tell you how to rectify it. Is this true and is it easy to resubmit?
5) I have also heard reports of Apple simply rejecting without explanation. That would be so painful. I have spent 6 months and a lot of investment. I would be devestated. is this true?
6) Any other advice? It has been in review for 3 days only so far. Any ideas on current wait time for enhanced books built for ipad, created on iBooks Author?
It's an anxious time isn't it?!
Thanks.1. Max size is 3 GB, but take into acount you want updates at some stage and need to allow "space"
2. URLs are usually excepted IF they are not competitors of Apple iBooks Store - ie Amazon. Any logo is usually copyrighted by the company. Any potential copyright infringements could be rejected by th review team.
3. Time taken in Review depends how busy they are without regard to your content.
4. If your book fails the review, you will be issued a ticket - A recent email advised changed to the ticketing procedures.
Ticket Catalog Report
The Catalog Reports module on iTunes Connect now contains a Ticket Catalog Report. The report contains details for all tickets that have been assigned to your iTunes Connect account.
iBooks Store Formatting Guidelines Update
The iBooks Store Formatting Guidelines include important information to help you avoid common errors when publishing on the iBooks Store. The new version of the guidelines includes updated information for copyrighted terms, supported languages, series metadata, What's New descriptions, book assets files, and more.
Download the updated iBooks Store Formatting Guidelines from the Deliver Your Content module on iTunes Connect.
5. The review team will pass or fail your book, fail is dealt with above. Pass... means its in the store. All you need to do is keep checking status in iTC.
6. is the same asnwer as 3. You wait and Check in iTC to monitor if your book is passed or ticketed.
Other advice, open iTC > Deliver your Content > on the top right are a number of PDF, download and read study them. Below them is a video.. take time to view the video and take notes.
The above extracts are from an email from iBooks, the links should still work, if not they are basically to open your iTunes Connect - Deliver your content section.
Last bit of advice, check everything at least twice before uploading to the store. Remember issues with copyright. Dont use anything just because its online. Dont copy text or images from other websites and give credits/links to any that are subject to Common Licence conditions... and finally.. be patient, time , tide and Apple move at their own speed. -
Go back one animation on the iPad for Keynote integrated in iBooks Author
When playing a Keynote presentation, you can go back one animation if you hold down the Shift key while pressing the back arrow key.
But how can you do this on the iPad when you have integrated the Keynote presentation with a widget in iBooks Author?
Tapping or swiping brings forward each animation step by step. Bu swiping backward brings you back to the start of the slide.
Is there an equivallent for Shift+back arrow on the iPad for iBooks?I have the same issue. I am also using the Keynote remote from my Iphone.
