Hi,
I would like to know if Solstics x.25 version 9.2, OSI version 9.0 and FTAM version 9.0 are supported under Soalris 9 on Sparc.
WHen i visit the web pages for the above products they only mention support for Solaris 7 and 8.
Thanks,

Moderator Action:
No they cannot send you a document that is available only to those with access to MOS.
That would violate the conditions of having such service contract credentials.
Asking someone to violate such privileges is a serious offense and could get that other person's organization banned from all support and all their support contracts cancelled.
Your post is locked.
Your duplicate post that you placed into the Audit Vault forum space has been removed (it had no responses).
This thread which you had placed in the Solaris 10 forum space is moved to the Audit Vault forum space.
That's the proper location for Audit Vault questions. -
How to export and import from AIX to solaris a whole schema with different
how to export and import from AIX to solaris a whole schema with different character set
import done in US7ASCII character set and AL16UTF16 NCHAR character set
import server uses WE8ISO8859P1 character set (possible charset conversion)
Import terminated successfully with warnings.The conversion between the character sets on the two servers are handled automatically. Export from one server will export the data given the character set defined on that server. Import into another server will import the data given the character set defined on that server, performing a conversion if necessary. This can be a problem when going from single-byte to a multi-byte character set. In your case, the warning is simply for your information, shoule be no real problem given the character sets you're using.

Hi,
I made a table for OSI model and TCP/IP model and diffrent protocols. If you have any additions, comments feel free to reply. There are a lot of protocols out there and these are only few and I want to separate each protocol to its correct layers.
Any addition or comments will be much appreciated.
Thanks.Hi Rivan,
The listed protocols sounds good to me. If you want complete list of protocols which runs on each layer then click on the below links for each layer.
Protocols run on Session layer:

Guys which OSI layer IPSEC AND GRE sits in??? which layer they belong to.....
Hi,
GRE adds another layer3 to the existing layer3 packet.
IPSec transport mode adds a layer that sits between layer3 and layer4, to encrypt data within the layer4 PDU.
IPSec tunnel mode encapsulates existing layer3 packet in a new layer for encryption, then adds a new layer3.
So generally speaking, IPSec and GRE are said to be layer3 protocols.

How to use Compare and Swap (CAS) atomic function(Solaris specific) in C
Hi,
I have found cas32() atomic function in (solaris 10) </usr/include/sys/atomic.h> (and also there is another atomic.h header file in </usr/include/atomic.h> but this header file does not have any cas32() function declarations) the declaration of cas32 in <sys/atomic.h>
is as follows
extern uint32_t cas32(uint32_t *target, uint32_t cmp, uint32_t newval);
extern ulong_t caslong(ulong_t *target, ulong_t cmp, ulong_t newval);
extern uint64_t cas64(uint64_t *target, uint64_t cmp, uint64_t newval);
extern void casptr(void target, void cmp, void newval);
extern uint8_t cas8(uint8_t *target, uint8_t cmp, uint8_t newval);
But the problem is when iam using these functions in c programs and compiling
using gcc it is showing the following error.
Undefined first referenced
symbol in file
cas32 /var/tmp//ccQcsnev.o
And if i use the function other than cas32 group of instruction
such as atomic_or_uint()
whose declaration is extern void atomic_or_uint(uint_t *target, uint_t bits);
in <sys/atomic.h> it is giving no error where as for CAS32 it showing as undefined symbol.Why it is giving like that we are not able to know.Is it the case that CAS32 instruction only available in Kernel mode and not available to user mode.Please inform us if anyone knows how to use cas32() instruction in the user C programs.As this is usefull for writing Nonblocking versions of stacks and Queues.Is there any way to write
our own atomic functions?
RamaYou are trying to use the old kernel-only CAS functions, use the correct ones like:
atomic_cas_32.

Apache 2.0.5.5 and WebLogic 9.1 on Solaris 10
Good day.
We were setting up an Apache 2.0.55 server as the web server for a WebLogic 9.1 server.
They are on different machines. We were able to setup successfully both servers and tried them on their own server.
The problem begin when we connect the two together. We were able to see the login page of the WebLogic server, but, without the "WebLogic Picture/Image" just above the username/password textboxes. Also, upon logging in, it displays a "j_security page not found" error.
This could only mean that Apache server can not see the location of these pages/images.
I just followed simply the instructions on the documentation that comes with WebSense 9.1. Such as this one:
LoadModule weblogic_module modules/mod_wl_20.so
and these two:
<Location /weblogic>
SetHandler weblogic-handler
PathTrim /weblogic
</Location>
<IfModule mod_weblogic.c>
WebLogicHost myweblogic.server.com
WebLogicPort 7001
MatchExpression *.jsp
</IfModule>
I wonder what went wrong.
When I typed http://<WebServer IP>:<port>/weblogic, it displays a Page Not Found error... but when I placed "/console" after the "/weblogic" part, it displays the login page but can not log on.
Hope you guys could help me out. Thanks so much.
midnytbluHi,
Try with following steps.
Step-1
Apache 2.0.x, install the plug-in by copying the mod_wl_20.so file to the APACHE_HOME\modules directory and adding the following line to your APACHE_HOME/conf/httpd.conf file manually:
LoadModule weblogic_module modules/mod_wl_20.so
Step-2
Apache 2.0.x, manually add the following line to the httpd.conf file:
LoadModule weblogic_module modules\mod_wl_20.so
Step-3
For a non-clustered WebLogic Server:
<IfModule mod_weblogic.c>
WebLogicHost myweblogic.server.com
WebLogicPort 7001
</IfModule>
If you want more detail please refer the following link. http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs90/plugins/apache.html
I know this is late response for you. But it will helpful for others.

Coesistence ORACLE 9i and 8.1.7 on solaris 8 help!!!
Hi, i 'm tryng to install oracle 9i r2 db server on the same sun sparc computer where a previous oracle 8i db server insist . The 9i OUI deinstalls the oracle 8i JRE and installs the new JRE, in this way the 8i loadjava doesn't work, because the reference to jre can't be found!!. the oracle_home of 9i is different from the 8i.
Just create the link and make it conditional (i.e. show it) on the User is Authenticated option. This is available in the Application builder when you're in the Report Attributes page and you click on an individual column edit link.

Proftpd and filezilla not usable on Solaris 11 in passive mode
Having problems with proftpd on Solaris 11 and wondering if anyone else has noticed this?
The clients are Windows & filezilla!
I have not changed any settings and just started svc:/network/ftp:default and I have noticed I am getting a lot of timeouts on file transfers. Getting this a lot on NFS (ZFS with ACLs) file systems and even on local file systems (less often, but fails when transfer many files).
What makes it worst is that the file starts to be written to disk but with size 0 and after the timeout filezilla starts again and a popup appears saying file exists??
I am getting over it by switching off "passive mode" in /etc/proftpd.conf and then it works fine!
# Disable Extended Passive mode
<Limit EPSV PASV>
DenyAll
</Limit>
And before any ones asks no firewalls on network or client!
Any pointers?
AndrewStrange think is that I just tried a Solaris 11.1 system and it works with out any problem.
So something has been fixed in Solaris 11.1.
It is the same version of proftpd so I guess something has changed else where to help with my problem.
Anyway, will do some more testing before upgrading my FTP server, but it looks like good news.

Tape drive and pci-x card with Solaris 10 on VMWare environment
I have a Sun X4170 server (x84_64) running VMWare ESXi 4.0. On it I have two VM guests- my production file server running Solaris 10 U7 and a test file server running Solaris 10 U9.
The X4170 has a PCI-X LSI Logic dual external U320 parallel scsi card. I have a tape drive + auto loader cabled to the X4170. It is a Quantum branded autoloader but I believe the tape drive itself is HP. The autoloader+tape drive share a single SCSI ID (6) but have separate LUNS.
I have two choices for making this system accessible to the OS:
- Virtualize the tape drive and loader individually.
- In VMWare, enable the scsi card as a pass through device. The SCSI card is then added as PCI device to the virtual machine (actually two devices since it is a dual scsi card.)
I had virtualized a single-drive tape drives with Vmware in the past.
However, when I tried I virtualize tape drive and loader, Solaris complained about the scsi id’s being invalid. I don’t think it likes two devices with a single scsi ID. Also, I think I need the backup software to see the REAL tape drive and autoloader (for inventory, changing tapes etc)

Running “devfsadm –v “ does not change anything
Any ideas? Maybe a need to update the MPT driver or is that dangerous?
ThanksActually, updating the kernel patches (and enabling hot plug service) did solve the problem. At some point during between testing the system before and after patching, the tape drive got turned off. Since the system patching was being done remotely it was not immediately obvious that the tape drive was off.

Smpatch and Sun Update Manager BROKEN - Solaris 10 Sparc
Since the installation of patch 121118-12, smpatch and Sun Update Manager (SUM) 1.0.9 are completely broken for myself and many, many other Solaris 10 users. Numerous significant bugs are listed in the release notes for the client:
http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/features/hub_articles/sc_update_rn.jsp
smpatch analyze and download seems to work, but the system completely hangs on smpatch update, every time. During the hang, smpatch/SUM-related processes are duplicated. This is not mentioned in the release notes.
Here is the results of "ps -ef | grep patch" when smpatch update hangs upon patch install:
username 1365 1 0 18:39:38 ? 0:10 /usr/bin/java -jar /usr/lib/patch/swupna.jar
root 2305 2275 0 18:48:05 ? 0:00 /usr/bin/java -Djava.library.path=/usr/lib/cc-ccr/lib com.sun.patchpro.cli.Patc
root 2270 2261 0 18:45:34 ? 0:00 smpatch update -i 120222-18 -i 119115-28 -i 119090-24 -i 120099-08 -C patchpro.
username 1061 1055 0 18:33:40 ? 2:34 /usr/bin/java -client -jar /usr/lib/patch/swupdate.jar
root 1072 1061 0 18:33:57 ? 0:00 sh -c /usr/lib/patch/csm
root 1073 1072 0 18:34:01 ? 0:00 /usr/lib/patch/csm

root 2275 2266 0 18:45:34 ? 1:20 /usr/bin/java -Djava.library.path=/usr/lib/cc-ccr/lib com.sun.patchpro.cli.Patc
Note the duplicated smpatch and java processes. This is a networked, stand-alone system. Killing the secondary smpatch and java -Djava.lib... processes stops the hang, but always results in installation failure for at least one patch.
Other than "killing hung processes and retry" as given in the release notes (bogus), what are good workarounds for the smpatch bug(s), which have severely impacted my system? When will Sun release a new SUM client? The current version is completely hosed.Thank you VERY much for your reply. I really appreciate your help.
Yes, smpatch works fine without patch 121118-12 installed (121118-10 is now my current smpatch level).

st driver is not loadet. (rem_drv st)
there is in /devices entrys like this: (du -a /devices)
2 /devices/pci@8,700000/SUNW,qlc@2/fp@0,0/sgen@w2002000e11116daf,1
0 /devices/pci@8,700000/SUNW,qlc@2/fp@0,0/sgen@w2002000e11116daf,1:changer
What is sgen@??
So the hardware sees the library but the os dos not compute… any idea how to get the drivers working and something under /dev/rmt?You could experiment with giving OBP the absolute path to that USB device, but I doubt you'll be successful. The Sunfire 280R (same hardware as the Sunblade 1000, Sunblade 2000, and Netra 20) design expected USB to be only for keyboard and mouse, not for any storage devices. If booting ever works manually from a USB stick, then you could create a custom alias for the device.
Try an experiment by using a CD or DVD of an older release of Solaris 10 instead of the current release.
[http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/releases.jsp|http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/releases.jsp]
The earlier ones need fewer hardware resources. I also recall a few forum posts that seem to suggest the bootblock structure on the CD's and DVD's of those earlier releases was more compatible with older hardware.
You might also need to get yourself a copy of the OBP 4.x Command Reference Manual, document No. 816-1177

Example:
add_drv -m '* 0666 bin bin' -i 'acme,sd new,sd' sd
Add 'sd' drive with identify names: acme,sd and new,sd.
Every minor node will have the permission 0666,
and be owned by bin with group bin.
In Solaris 10 10/09 Release Notes:x86: add_drv, update_drv, and rem_drv Commands
ShouldUse Advisory Record Locking (6445040)
The update_drv command does not remove the /tmp/AdDrEm.lck lock file immediately,
resulting in subsequent add_drv, update_drv, and rem_drv commands to fail. This issue is
mostly visible when creating a custom install image. This lock file has been bundled in the
miniroot so any attempts to add a package will fail. The following error message is displayed:
add_drv/rem_drv currently busy; try later
Workaround: If the /tmp/AdDrEm.lck file exists, manually remove it before attempting a
pkgadd or _drv commands. -
RMI-server works on Windows and Linux but not on Solaris
I wrote an application which uses RMI. The server is successfully tested on Windows and Linux. However it doesn't work on Solaris.
Naming.lookup works, I can find the server. But calling a method on my remote interface causes a ConnectionException:

Additional information about the common pitfalls which I have already checked:
* rmiregistry finds the server classes (the exception was different without them)
* the server is in the LAN and the desktop firewall of the client is double-checked to let the required ports through to any destination.java.rmi.ConnectException: Connection refused tohost: >192.168.1.123; nested exception is:
java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused:
: connect
Clearly indicates what is happening inside there.Clearly indicates that you don't know what you are talking about.
Any applications invoked with a security manager must
be granted explicit permission to access local system
resources apart from read access to the directory and
its subdirectories where the program is invoked.Any application that gets a java.net.ConnectionException: Connection
refused is getting it more or less directly from the TCP/IP stack. If the problem had anything to do with policies and permissions and SecurityManagers, it would have been an AccessControlException .
if your client RMI doesnt include these lines then If your 'client RMI' does include these lines then I would like a definition of what exactly a 'client RMI' really is, because I've been using RMI for ten years and wrote a book about it and I certainly don't know.
1)just include these lines
if (System.getSecurityManager() == null) {
System.setSecurityManager(new
SecurityManager());In other words, if the application doesn't already have a security manager, in which case the contents of the policy file or the 'client RMI', or whatever you want to call it, are completely irrelevant, such that they couldn't possibly be having the problem you desrcribe, add a security manager so that we get into the land where you might possibly know what you're talking about?
e a policy file
grant {
permission java.net.SocketPermission
"192.168.1.123:1099", "accept,connect,resolve";
};And this is completely unnecessary if there isn't a security manager, and completely unrelated to the OP's problem. -
Unable to compile and run SAP/Rfc on solaris: RfcInstallUnicodeStructureU:
Hi All,
After trying a lot I want to post it here as the last chance.
- I have the unicode version of rfcsdk installed at /usr/sap/rfcsdk
- I downloaded and un-tarred saprfc-0.36. I could create 'saprfc.so' without any error.
- I believe the function call 'RfcInstallUnicodeStructureU' used by saprfc.c is located in a library 'librfcu.a'.
sapscp@moe$ strings librfcu.a | grep RfcInstallUnicodeStructureU
RfcInstallUnicodeStructureU
RfcInstallUnicodeStructureU
I am able to create the library saprfc.so without any issue but I see the following error when I try to execute test.rb.
skarumur@reality$ ruby test.rb
dirs: ["./ext/saprfc", "/usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8", "/usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/sparc-solaris2.8", "/usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby", "/usr/local/lib/ruby/1.8", "/usr/local/lib/ruby/1.8/sparc-solaris2.8", "."]

NOTE: My LD_LIBRARY_PATH has the directory of librfcu.a
Thanks for any help,
Sri1. I do have a library librfcum.so. I guess it's not the one.
I changed the rfcum to rfcu in ext/saprfc/extconf.rb and reran clean;config;setup and install. I still have the issue.
2. Not sure if it's related but I see a warning:
ld: warning: file /usr/sap/rfcsdk/lib/librfcu.a(rfcilib.o): wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
Was wondering if this is related to 64/32 bit issues. There is no 32 bit unicode version. I tried 32 bit non-unicode version of rfcsdk but it starts pumping hundreds of errors like below during the compile time:
<unknown> 0x40510 /usr/sap/rfcsdk_32_non_unicode/lib/librfc.a(rscpa0lib.o)

<unknown> 0x40588 /usr/sap/rfcsdk_32_non_unicode/lib/librfc.a(rscpa0lib.o)
3. Probably not related to this issue but I wonder why I see the error about missing libsapu16 though I have libsapu16.so.
