Support for 200 GB hard disk?

I recently bought a new hard disk, WDC200JB (Western Digital Caviar WD2000JB 200Gb 7200rpm Special Edition (8Mb cache) UDMA100 IDE).
I have Windows XP with Service Pack 1 on my computer.
I already have a similair hard disk but it's only 80 Gb big. That is my master disk. I set the new one (200 Gb) to slave. When I started my computer, Windows found the hard disk and installed it, but I cannot see it in the "My computer" window. The only way to look at it is in the "Device Manager".
So I need to get a way to format it. When I press the Populate button in the Device Manager, it makes the disk show 137 Gb, but when I press Ok, this information vanish and is gone when I look there again.
So, my question: Does my mother board support such a large disk at 200 Gb? I need to know this so I can go on finding out what's wrong. But on the MSI homepage, when I look at the description of my mother board, it doesn't say anything about how large disks it supports. How do I get this information?
This is my motherboard:
Microstar K7T266 Pro KT266A 5PCI 1AGP 3xDDR UDMA100 Audio SocketA ATX
This is the product link to my motherboard: http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.aspmodel=K7T_266_PRO&class=mb
Really need help, thanks...

  • Does support Lenovo G510 2Tb Hard Disk?

Hi, Yesterday, i bought a Lenovo G510 with a 500 Gb of Hard Disk.
I want to upgrade the hard disk to a disk with more capacity (speed is not a problem).
Does support Lenovo G-510 hard disk of 2 TB of capacity?
What is the máximum capacity supported?.
In the market there are 2.5" hard disk of 3TB ¿will be supoorted by the G510?
    (Sorry for my bad English)

    Hi Elecktrus,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
I’m sorry to inform you that the HDD (Hard Disk Drive) can only upgraded up to 1TB with the same specifications as mentioned in the below image:

  • Crystal  can support for  200 fileds in report

    Hi Experts,
my client has the requirement like he has to view the 200 fields report with current data.
my doubt is, will crystal can support for 200 fields width ? ..
Present my client is using Excel to track this report.
    Can anybody please guide me
    Thanks,
    Manag

    Hello,
It should but how are you going to format the fields to fit all of the info onto a page? If you do want to then try installing and HP Plotter so you can use a large page size. Customer will have to do the same.
I suggest you write a SQL Script to export that many fields and use the DB Tools to do the exporting. It will be much cleaner.
Also, suggest to your customer/user to no use Crystal Reports as a database Archiving tool. More efficient to use the DB itself to do that.

  • Mini 200-4200 - Hard Disk Error

    Hello,
I have: HP Mini 200-4200, pr nr B3R47EA#ABU, System Board ID 338D, Win 7 (factory installed) ...what else.
I´m not very computer literate, first of all. And second, I´m in Nicaragua on a gap year - little resources around.
The Mini is under warranty, I bought it in Oct 2012, London, it´s been gradually slowing down, which I contributed to having maybe too much stuff on it.. Until, something happend few days ago. After turning on and thinking for few seconds, it makes a little "bing", and showes "Hard Disk Error", Please rund the Hard Disk Test in System Diagnostics.
When I do as it says, in a second (literally, with no thinking time), comes up:
    Primary Hard Disk Self Test
    Quick Test
    Hard isk 1 Quick (303)
    Primary Hard Disk Self Test
    Full test
    Hard disk 1 Full (305)
    SMART check to Exit Testing
    Hard Disk SMART Passed
So I press the Esc to exit and then comes up:
    "Hard Disk Test" Failed.
Then I did the F10 tapping in the beginning (read in one advice post) to get to Bios:
I went to Diagnostics and pressed Primary Hard Disk Self Test.  It doesn´t seem to do the test because in the same second as I press Enter, box comes with "Hard Disk 1 Quick (303)" , "ok", ...in the background I can see the Short Test Executing 0% Complete, Estimated time unknown...but I think it doesn´t do it at all. When I press the ok, nothing happens.
I´m not sure what to do. Or where is my nearest HP representative. Is there on in Managua? (or Esteli would be closer).
AND - is there a possibility to salvage any files?
Not sure if this is of any importance, when I go to the Diagnostics Log, the numbers that are listed there are 0303, 03F1, 0305. Repeating.
Please help to save my little Mini, it has been a good companion.
    Thanks,
    Maire

Thanks for the reply - I will call the local HP support (Nicaragua) tomorrow. And will post if stuff gets solved.
However - HOW CAN I SALVAGE THE INFO?
I´ve heard that warranty doesn´t cover that. But then again, if I ask a computer repairs place to do it, I risk the warranty? I´m not sure if HP allows to do it (in Lenovo the hard disk can be removed without trouble... I´m told...)
I also have additional Accidental Damage Protect Service w Pickup and Return...which I hastily did before travelling...and now I can´t remember what it covers besided "spilling the odd coffee cup" ....I can´t find any other terms and conditions other than the States version....
Any ideas how I can salvage the info?

  • Is there a maximum size for an internal hard disk ?

I just bought an 2.5" 160 Gb HD to replace my internal 120 Gb. Presently I only tried to mount it as an external disk, but it is recognized as a 128 Gb disk, not a 160 Gb. As it is a pain to change the internal HD, I would like to be sure the disk will be recognized as a 160 Gb before. I called Apple hot line, but they have no information, for them the maximum capacity for a Powerbook G4 12" is 80 Gb as it was never offered a larger size, but already I have a 120 Gb that I mounted myself perfectly working.
Is there a software / firmware limitation of the addressable size of a hard disk on a PowerBook G4 12" ???

I have called Apple several times, I have talked to the Apple Store in KC. Same answer...well it comes in 40-60-80 configs. Not a good answer.
The 12 inch powerbook G4 supports ATA-100 (100Mb/sec) interface. The specs on the Hitachi HD refer to ATA-6, which refers to the higher speed transfer rate of UDMA6.
As I understand the ATA (AT Attachment),PATA (Parrallel ATA), IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics) and UDMA (Ultra Direct Memory Access) are basically used interchangeably to describe the interface (see wikopedia for detail difference of implementation of specs).
Since the Mac OS supports terabystes of HD data, the OS is not a limitation. The limitation is in the motherboard interface and controller for ATA (ATA-100)
The ATA specification is 28-bit addressing with a maximum capacity to address of 137gb - 128gb formated. It is calculated as follows. A bit is either on or off meaning it is binary - or in mathmatical terms base of 2.
2 to the 28th power = 268,435,456 disk sectors to address.
Each sector has blocks of 512 bytes.
    268,435,456 * 512 = 137,438,953,472 or 137GB
Once formated the drive capacity for data is 128GB.
This is the same issue as the W98 PCs. An indication Apple is way behind in technology for HD interface and controllers. Very sad!
Now the part I do not understand ATA-6 introduced 48 bit addressing, increasing the limit to 128 PiB (or 144 petabytes). This is much larger than 128GB standard ATA. My assumption here is the Hitachi HD supports ATA-6 however Apple does not support more than standard ATA on the motherboard HD interface and controller. The G4 HD controller I assume does not support Ultra DMA mode 5 compliant (UDMA5). This would mean it does not support the 80-connector cables, only the older 40-connector cables.
Does anyone know if this powerbook supports ATA-100,UDMA5, 80-connector cables?

  • Best protective cases for bare internal hard disks used with drive dock?

I've been noticing that my external, powered hard drive enclosures are taking too much space; plus I think I can save money by plugging internal hard disks into a drive dock such as http://www.newertech.com/products/voyagerq.php , then connecting that via FireWire 800 to my Mac Pro.
However, I don't want to leave them exposed when not active. I've searched around and found several options like silicone holders and WiebeTech's VHS-esque boxes, but not a really thorough roundup of protective cases.
Does anyone have any firsthand experience or recommendations for protective cases?

Thanks for the Google Base link, but it doesn't seem to work any more.
I did manage to find some cases from a company called Technology Directions in Melburne, Australia.
I needed something that would sit well on a shelf, but also offer good durability and anti-static protection. I also have some 2.5" drives from notebooks that no longer work, and some 3.5" drives that won't fit into my current system at the same time.
I saw some good reviews, so I ordered a 10-pack and they arrived in under a week, with very reasonable shipping. They came with labels and foam padding (which I only needed for some of the drives). I now have 10 cases holding 14 drives, in protected bliss, on the shelf. I can read the label and instantly see which drive I need, instead of peering into anti-static bags. Highly recommended.

  • METHOD FOR RETRIEVING FREE HARD DISK SPACE!

    Hi!
I would like to know if there is any (standard or not) CLASS with methods for retrieving the amount of free hard disk space. I would appreciate if you could help! Thanks a lot!
    Best regards,

    for which os?
because java must run on all operating systems no method is implemented (as far as i know). so you must call a system-program (or script) to do the work.

  • SOLARIS OS Support for Advance Format Hard Drives

    Hello,
I am fairly new to the UNIX Operating System so I'm hoping that someone can help me. Does Solaris support the new Advance Format hard drives (4k sector boundaries)? I cannot find any mention of the advance format drive in the Oracle literature. I believe, based on my recent reading that Open Source Solaris depends on ZFS to handle the support of the new 4kbyte sector size.
Thank you in advance for any information you can supply.

    @ O.P.,
You originally posted your inquiry to the Clustering forum, which has nothing to do with the topic of disk cluster size.
Glance at the documentation for Oracle Cluster 4.0 to see what clustering is all about.

  • HT1553 how to change permission for my external hard-disk ??????

can't copy files from my mac to hard disk

  • Search for perfect external hard disk enclosure / RAID1

Today, am using stand-alone enclosures connected to a Mac Mini (running SL) via FW400 and USB.
Am storing my media on a 2 TB WD Green HD and am looking for redundancy (RAID1) while keeping the form factor down (wife approval factor).
Plan to add a second 2 TB drive, but need to find the ideal RAID enclosure. Have been looking into this for some time, but when I find what I think will work, the reviews aren't very favorable.
    Here are the requirements:
    - Supports SATA drives (minimum 2)
    - Hardware RAID1 support
    - Firewire 400 (800 preferred)
    - Low noise/low heat (passive cooling preferred)
    - Power Management (turns off when HTPC is off)
    - Small(ish) form factor (e.g. under 8" x 8" x 15" (H x W x D)
I'd consider using Mac OS X Software to create the RAID but have read too many reports that indicate it is problematic. Also considered NAS (vs DAS) but want to use the array as a time machine disk also so it would need to be mac friendly.
Can any one chime in with some hands-on recommendations for an enclosure/RAID1 that meets my requirements, or experiences when using software RAID1 on the Mac?

    Take a look here:
    http://www.g-technology.com/products/g-safe.cfm
I have just ordered one. I have two G Safe drives, they work well with the Mac. They go to sleep (or not) according to the Mac settings.
I have ordered a third module so I can always keep a copy off site.
They are available 500 Gig to 2 Tb. Interfaces eSATA, USB, FW 800.
From personal experience I would not recommend software Raid for safety. My two excursions into software raid resulted in tears.

  • Best format for an external hard disk

    Hi
I need to re-formated my WD 1TB external hard drive and was wondering what is the best file format to use (MS DOS FAT-32, Mac OS Extended Journalled etc)
All I store on it are all my videos, tv shows, and back-ups of all my work, documents etc, but I don't use it with time machine
Is one format better than the other for my needs?
    Thanks
    Andy

You don't transfer the file to a FAT(32) aka "MSDOS" formatted drive, partition or USB thumb drive.
The file is already on a drive that is formatted either exFAT, NTFS or HFS+ as it's over 4GB already or it wouldn't be there in the first place.

  • W510 Support for SSDs using hard drive caddy?

I just bought a Crucial M4 512GB SSD and I cannot get this thing to work in the hard drive caddy.  Works fine in the primary slot, but can't initialize/partition/format/anything when using it with my official Lenovo hard drive caddy.  So what SSDs does the caddy support?

Ok, I feel a little dumb.  I got the M4 working.  In the past, I've been able to hot swap my 2nd drives.  Apparently this no longer works (need to figure out why).  I plugged in my old HDD while booted up and got the same "drive not initialized" error on it.  After a reboot, the HDD was up and running.  So tried the same with the SSD and it's working.  I thought I had done this as part of my troubleshooting but I guess not :/

  • Sharing disabled for external hard disks?

After installing Lion, I find that I could not enable sharing for my external hard disks. I right-clicked each hard disk in Finder, checked the Shared Folder box and after I close the window and reopen it, the Shared Folder box is again unchecked. In System Prefs, I have already enabled File Sharing. Also, I could not do Screen Sharing as well. What could be wrong? I didn't have all these problems with Snow Leopard. Now my media player (on the same network) cannot see the two hard disks attached to my iMac.

If the external hard disk is connected via network, I found that if you connect to that hard disk through its IP address in a web browser and change it's folder preferences to (everyone can read/write), that will allow Lion to access the files.
I had the same situation, and this worked.  You can use a program called Magical Finder to locate the IP address.
    http://www.iodata.jp/lib/product/m/3022_mac.htm
The site is in Japanese, but the software has English support.  Really easy to use, but you could probably use any kind of network scanning software to find the ip address.

Can anyone tell me what the part number is for a replacement Hard disk for Portege P2010 is? It has the latest BIOS installed, can the HDD capacity be higher than the original 30gig?
    Thanks
    Martin

    Hi
Like Ivan said, there are no officials documents about a max size of a HDD.
I assume that you can use a 40 GB HDD but Im not 100% sure if the bigger HDDs will work.
    Please check this link:
    http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/devicetype-vendor-modelline-modelseries-partlist.aspx?devicetype=0&vendorlevel=ModelSeries &modelseriescatid=50972&partcatid=140744&filter =0
There you will find a 40GB HDD for Protg 2010.
