Support for 4k monitors
Apparently CS6 does not support 4k monitors; what can be done to enlarge the type in cs6 when using a 4k monitor? i'll be getting a new eizo

It not so much a 4K monitor thing it is a high resolution display thing. There currently is no support for high resolution monitors only an temp patch to run high resolution display as a low resolution display.
Large 4k Displays are not high resolution display they still have a resolution in the same ball park as old desktop displays.
IBM old 4k LCD t201 22.2" 3840x2400px 16:10 aspect ratio has a 204 DPI and the newer 24" 4k 3840x2160px 16:9 aspect ratio have a 185 DPI resolution Larger displays still have resolution near the old standard desktop display's 96 DPI resolution. Laptop and tablets can can have high resolution.
High resolution displays have smaller pixels than low resolution display so things display smaller on high resolution text, icons and button display smaller so they are harder to see and touch.
If you get a new large eizo 4k display you will have no problem for it will not have resolution that is that much greater than old desktop displays things will be somewhat smaller but not be a problem for they will be sharper and look better than on old desktop displays..
149DPI is about the highest I see on their site

I am having problems enabling the support for a 4th (actually a third) monitor using the HP EliteBook 840 G1 and a docking station (HP 2013 Ultra Slim Docking station). I intend to use the notebook screen and three other screens. All screens are HP's (ProDisplay P221, HPL2065, HP1740) and they are connected using the VGA port and the DisplayPorts of the docking station. Whenever I disconnect one of the displays, the third one would work. But not three at the same time. Is there a way to enable it? Thanks.
Hey, I just found out that MB 770G/A and /B do not support Itouch 4g excet for audio signal. This information comes from apple store.

Gs70 Stealth Pro support for 4K monitor + HD Monitor simultaneously
Is the GS70 2PE STEALTH PRO capable to support 2 external monitors from which one is Ultrawide 21:9 LG 34UM95HD 4K 3440x1440 monitor in addition to another Dell UltraSharp U2713HM 2,560x1,440 pixels monitor.
I know that according to the specifications it should support up to 3 external monitors and a maximum resolution of 3840 x 2160, but is it possible to meet my requirements above? keeping in mind that I will be using that setup for video editing, not gaming.

I have a couple of DVI monitors and I'm looking to replace my Windows desktop with a Mac Mini. I found an article that says it supports dual monitors with Thunderbolt, but I can't find any discussion of using it with existing monitor, or running multiple DVI displays off a single Thunderbolt port.

It ships with an HDMI to DVI adapter that you can use for one DVI Display.
For the second DVI display you will need to buy a > Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter and plug that into the Thunderbolt/MiniDisplay Port.

Xorg support for widescreen monitor
Hello,
My faithful 17" viewsonic finally ran out of steam. So I'm in market for a new monitor. Currently looking at a 22" one that does 1680x1050. TBH, I don't have full confidence in Xorg's support of widescreen formats such as this. I'm temporarily using a DVI TV that supports 1280x720 but could not configure X for that output.
Please let me know your experience with this and any trick to get it working so that I can go ahead with the purchase.

My Samsung widescreen monitor, nvidia graphics card, and xorg have been playing nicely together for several years now. I'd second skottish's suggestion to go with a monitor capable of 1920x1080 resolution if possible. -

MB571Z/A is the part to get, but on Google every link I checked shows it out of stock / coming in. YMMV. Such is the thing with newer technology. If you're out in front (early adopter) you may get arrows in the back from all those followers. Make the point at the Apple Store. That's my only recommendation.
Other good news? Someone will get it and sell it (most likely Apple) to you. -
Kona 3 and Kona 3G support for SpeedGrade monitoring

Sounds like it could be very painful, since Iridas did everything through the GPU.
Mac Pro's with Kona cards, would love to dump FCP. Have already subscribed to the cloud, but need to justify putting more machines on before jumping totally in.This is a question that we all want answerd. But I thing the answer will come with the next release. Adobe has anounced that there will be a new version of the Creative Suite (all products) in April.

HD-SDI external monitoring support for PrP 5.5
For the moment I am working in Adobe sequences, but hoping that external monitoring issues (i.e., playback, rendering of AE dynamic links ,etc.) are resolved one way (third party) or the other (Adobe).
This issues will eventually (some are already looking to Avid for alternatives) piss off some of the higher end users (facilities, boutiques) that Adobe doesnt want to lose.
Adobe, I know your plate is very full, but this one could have tragic consequences on your new found popularity.I know there is support for external monitoring, it just is very bad at this point.This forum and others contain numerous such reports. I have been in touch with Adobe and the vendor of the product I used with FCP and now with current drivers for PrP. This is why I have switched to editing with Adobe sequences. Due to the issues stated in the previous posting. I have send in bug reports ad infinitum. I spent lots of phone time with good supportive technical folks.
This post is more editorial in nature then anything else. I really like the Adobe Production Studio and I want to see it succeed and flourish. -
Practical use for dual monitors in Lightroom
I am running Lightroom 2.1 in Vista 64 with 8 GB of Ram for those that will ask.
I have an EIZO CE240w monitor and a 21 cintiq Wacom tablet monitor that is connected on my ATI 4850 Video card on that PC.
How would others configure their monitors and how would they use each one to their benefit.
I'm just looking for suggestion since Lightroom 2 can now support dual screens... but why??

I'm a little baffled by this (and other) comments regarding Lr's dual monitor support. In what way is it unusable? Is it because you cannot tear off the panels and move then to another monitor? If Adobe chooses to implement this feature you will get no complaints from me but I use my dual monitor setup in Lr much differently than in Ps.
In Ps I move all my panels to my second monitor and use my main monitor exclusively for my images. I may work for hours on a single image and glance only occasionally at the second monitor, preferring keyboard shortcuts and mouse-click context menus to manipulate the image. However, when I need a quick glance at a panel there they are on the second monitor. In Ps the image is king.
In Lr, on the other hand, speed trumps everything else. It's all about dealing with hundreds (sometimes thousands) of images and doing it quickly. I set my panels to Solo mode and Auto Hide & Show. A quick Shift+G brings the grid view to my second monitor. My main monitor is all image. I often do not need to see the panels. For example, use the , and . keys to navigate through the Basic adjustments and tap the + and - keys to increase or decrease values. D for develop, E for loupe, C for compare, grid always on the second monitor. When I want the panels I want them close to the images and do not want to have my eyes wander to a second monitor. Everything fast, fast fast.
Hit G, loupe now on the second monitor, grid on the main. Shift+Ctrl+Alt+K to set a keyword shortcut, then Ctrl+Alt+K to paint the keyword across images. Ctrl+K to enter more keywords on the keywording panel. The panels nestled nicely near the grid. A click, the panel is gone. (I would however like to see the develop presets permanently on the second monitor.)
It's fast, fast, fast. Lr, Ps: two different beasts; two different workflows. Each uses dual monitors, each differently. -
[Non IE Regression] Support for full screen mode with multiple monitors
This seems to be a regression with Flash Player v11.2.202.x (for all other browsers).
With Internet Explorer it is still working.

As a last resort on optimizing my stored procedure ( Below ) i wanted to create a Selective XML index ( Normal XML indexes doesn't seem to be improving performance as needed ) but i keep getting this error within my stored proc . Selective XML
Index feature is not supported for the current database version.. How ever
EXECUTE sys.sp_db_selective_xml_index; return 1 , stating Selective XML Indexes are enabled on my current database .
Is there ANY alternative way i can optimize below stored proc ?

Does Mac Mini's HDMI-to-DVI cable support analog DVI monitors?
The Apple website shows that the new (late 2012) Mac Mini comes with an HDMI-to-DVI adapter cable in the box :-)
The DVI video connector standard supports both analog and digital video signal modes, but not all models support both modes.
I have an old PC monitor with a DVI connector, which is probably analog only. Will this work with the new (late 2012) Mac Mini?
In other words: does Apple's HDMI-to-DVI adapter cable support all DVI monitors, or only those with a digital input?

DVI-A (analogue only)
DVI-D (digital only)
DVI-I (supports both)
In this case the HDMI to DVI adaptor will only support digital DVI. This is because the HDMI port only supports digital.
Generally monitors with a DVI port support digital DVI, if you compare the socket and pins layout on the monitor to the one on the Mac adaptor if they are the same layout then that should indicate the monitor indeed supports digital DVI.
Note: The maximum resolution supported by the Macs HDMI port is 1920x1200, if your monitor supports a higher resolution then you should get a Mini Displayport to DVI adaptor or if needed a Mini Displayport to Dual Link DVI adaptor (for the highest resolutions).

MST Support for MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013 - DisplayPort 1.2 - Will it ever happen? (with sources)
So back in October, I purchased a brand new Macbook Pro Retina (MBPr), fully loaded with top of the line specs. I was soooo excited to have Thunderbolt 2 tech which Intel AND Apple describes as having DisplayPort 1.2a compatibility - which up to this point is unfortunately NOT the case. The point of the information/questions and requests in this article is to engage a conversation about the issues of not having MST support after Apple falsely mislead their consumers to think otherwise - especially when it is clear the MBPr is capable. Please read on...
Apple advertises that the Thunderbolt 2 ports on BOTH the MBPr and the new Mac Pro (NMP) will have 4K Display support with the famed 20gb/sec Ports (DisplayPort 1.2 only requires a little above 17gb/sec). Now that the 10.9.1 update has been released, we have failed to see MST or Multi-Stream Transport enabled on the MBPr Late 2013. Now, as for the New Mac Pro- it DOES have MST enabled in 10.9.1 with the AMD GPUs. For all of you out there that's questioning what this means, short answer is basically the Mac Pro will be able to power a 4K Monitor at 60Hz through the Thunderbolt 2 Port but the New MBPr is stuck with only HDMI 1.4 support which tops out at 4K 30Hz. 30Hz is unacceptable for anything but movies or a photo slideshow. At 30Hz the cursor will jump across the screen, eliminating any of the benefits of 4K.
BUT it gets worse...
Apple can be seen advertising that the new MBPr 15" model can power a 4K monitor THROUGH the Thunderbolt 2 Port here: http://www.apple.com/thunderbolt - This article quotes the following:
"Now with Thunderbolt 2 built into the new Mac Pro and MacBook Pro with Retina display, you can connect the latest 4K desktop displays and get double the bandwidth for your peripherals. And the two generations of Thunderbolt technology are compatible with each other."
Does this not let the consumer assume that the newest MBPr will be able to drive a 4K display through the Thunderbolt 2 Port? I would say yes it does, but at the time I wrote this, the TB2 Ports can't power a 4K display because, as previously stated, MST is disabled in Mavericks for the 15" MBPr Late 2013.

4K support on the MacBook Pro (Retina, Late 2013)
MacBook Pro supports 4K displays and Ultra HD TVs at the following resolutions and refresh rates with the built-in HDMI port:
3840 x 2160 at 30 Hz refresh rate
4096 x 2160 at 24 Hz refresh rate (mirroring is not supported at this resolution)
In the article above the New Mac Pro is listed as having support for a 4K Display with the Thunderbolt 2 Port (or MST DisplayPort 1.2a Technology) at 60Hz with no problem. This leads myself and many others to believe that MST will NEVER be enabled on the newest MacBook Pro Retina with Nvidia GPUs. Yes, 4K IS supported but ONLY through the HDMI 1.4 port, which has the limitation of only 30hz. This two-faced advertising is extremely upsetting to a LOT of people, including myself.
Interestingly enough, THIS IS NOT a hardware issue. If one ventures into Windows 8.1 via Bootcamp and connects a 4K Display via the Thunderbolt 2 (or through DP1.2) Port, the Display registers at 60Hz, thus proving that the Thundberbolt 2 Hub Controller is completely capable of MST DisplayPort functionality. Clearly this a driver issue with Apple, Nvidia or Intel or any combination. What Apple has done here is forcing any professional that desires stable and clear 4K technology through their MacBook Pro Retina to do so only using Windows 8.1 on their own machines! Definitely an oxymoron if you ask me...
Later on when the Mac Pro was ready for ordering, Apple placed the Sharp PN-K321 as a compatible option for a 4K Display. On the Store page featuring the (over three thousand dollar) Sharp 4K display, located here http://store.apple.com/us/product/HD971LL/A/sharp-32-pn-k321-4k-ultra-hd-led-mon itor?fnode=53 Apple states the following:
"Note that 4K DisplayPort operation is only compatible with the new Mac Pro (Late 2013)."
All of that being said, and I'm terribly sorry for my wordy ranting...
This brings me to a final two requests to ANYONE reading this post:
a) Has anyone working with the new 10.9.2 Beta Update seen evidence that DisplayPort 1.2 capabilities will be enabled for the new MacBook Pro Retina (Nvidia 750M) with the promised "Graphics Driver Updates" within the next Mavericks update?
and
b) To others that purchased or were/are thinking of purchasing a new MacBook Pro Retina with TB2 Ports: If you are just as upset as me about this crushing blow to consumers that just purchased a $3,000 laptop that were promised something that wasn't delivered - I urge you please, write to Apple and let them know they are making a mistake. The Mavericks 10.9.3 update adds official support for Thunderbolt 2, 4K!
I'm not sure if you will be able to daisy chain anything to the 4K display. I've read that the design of Thunderbolt 2 includes support for DisplayPort 1.2 multi-stream (MST), which allows this type of daisy chaining with 4K, but we don't know if Apple has this supported on it's machines. Apparently it's been buggy in development because the graphics driver needs to work correctly with the Thunderbolt 2 host controller. I'm sure they will work it out if they haven't already.

One more note on Thunderbolt worth sharing: always keep your fastest peripherals closer to the computer in the chain. If you have a TB1 device directly connected to the computer, anything further down the chain will be limited to TB1 speed/capability regardless of it's native speed. Always connect TB2 devices first, and save anything TB1 for the end of the chain.

Power View seems broken by Updates
We are using Power View in Excel and it seems broken since several days due maybe to Windows updates. We did test with really simple tab (2 columns, 3 lines of numbers). We found that machines without last updates continue to work but not up to date.
