Support for Essbase 7?

Hello Guys,
I am trying to find out when does the official support for Essbase 7 end? It's just that I am writing a report and I cannot find this information anywhere.

John pointed you to the document. I would point out that it says lifetime support. I'll translate. Support will take your call, look throught the list of known bugs and fixes, then tell you the solution is to upgrade to 11.1.1.3 to fix the problem. There will be no escolation of the problem, no patches created, no additional help.

To your second question, yes, 11.1.2.3 and onward will have Smart View only. See Doc ID 1466700.1
I make this point every time the question comes up, but as Santy suggests, the key point is "support duration". I have heard the (incorrect) statement "The Classic Add-In won't be supported from January 1st 2013" too many times... ...existing versions 11.1.2.2 and earlier continue to be supported under normal lifetime support policy. Although I can't actually remember raising a support ticket in for an Excel Add-In issue and I've been using it for nearly 15 years!

64 bit client support for Essbase 7.1.X

Hi,
I'm trying to work out the Essbase 64 bit story. It looks like Essbase 7.1.4 you could install the server on a 64bit platform. How about the client pieces? For example, if I have a client application that I'm writing consuming the Essbase C API can I have this running on a 64 bit platform? If so which ones? What's the story for Essbase 7.1.5 and 9?

Essbase 7.1.4 was a 64-bit only release that did have a corresponding 64-bit Java API (contained in the Essbase Deployment Services package). I didn't install 7.1.4 so I don't know if there was a 64-bit client API package.

Financial report for essbase and planning application

Hi,
Can any one please explain me what is the difference between creating financial report for essbase application and planning application.
Considering we will have Essbase cube for the planning application

Correct, the data that is stored in Essbase will be the same regardless of which connection type you use.
Data that is only stored in Planning can only be retrieved using a Planning connection. This includes Supporting Detail and SmartLists as these are stored in the Planning relational database.
As a general rule I always use an Essbase connection unless i specifically want to get supporting detail or smartlists but that is just me.

Time series functions are not working in OBIEE for ESSBASE data source

Hi All,
I am facing a problem in OBIEE as I am getting error messages for measure columns with Time series functions(Ago,ToDate and PeriodRolling) in both RPD and Answers.
Error is "Target database does not support Ago operation".
But I am aware of OBIEE supports Time Series functions for Essbase data source.
using Hyperion 9.3.1 as data source and obiee 11.1.1.5.0 as reporting tool.

is because the time series function are not supported for the framentation content, see the content of the oracle support:
The error occurs due to the fact the fragmented data sources are used on some Time series measures. Time series measures (i.e. AGO) are not supported on fragmented data sources.
Confirmation is documented in the following guide - Creating and Administering the Business Model and Mapping Layer in an Oracle BI Repository > Process of Creating and Administering Dimensions
Ago or ToDate functionality is not supported on fragmented logical table sources. For more information, refer to “About Time Series Conversion Functions” on page 197.

Dim adapter for Essbase

Hi,
Can some please Validate that whether Oracle is Supporting Dim adapter for Essbase or not.
Can someone give me link or somethig as a Proof.
Also can we see data in Dim Adapters or not..

DIM itself as an Oracle product had its last release in 11.1.1 (see the 'Statement of Direction' linked in this Proactive Support blog entry: https://blogs.oracle.com/proactivesupportEPM/entry/statements_of_direction_for_epm).
However, the Essbase adapter continues to ship (or at least, it is still in the 11.1.2.3 documentation). But I don't think the adapter itself has been updated since 11.1.1.
Since DIM the integration tool itself is now out of Premier support, I can't see why you would want to use it unless you are a dedicated Informatica shop (DIM is just Informatica under an OEM agreement). ODI is the Oracle replacement.
If Oracle really are still shipping the adapter, I am confused as to whether or not Oracle would still support a problem with the adapter if used with a non-DIM product (i.e. Informatica). And if I really needed an answer to that, I would talk to Oracle support directly.
I worked at an Informatica shop a couple of years ago and they were keen to use the adapters, but we went with 'native' techniques like DATAEXPORT plus ODI for things like Planning metadata management. My recollection is that using DIM didn't abstract away from Essbase very far (still had to create load rules, for example) but abstracted away just enough to place annoying limitations on what you could do if you know Essbase well. For example, the data load wouldn't permit a slice load to ASO (if I recall correctly) which would be a show-stopper in some applications.

Does the APS Java API v11.1.1 support the Essbase 9.x?

I'm currently using the APS java API v11.1.1 for the Essbase 11.x and works well. Now I'll change to Essbase 9.x, and I don't want to change the ess_japi.jar which version is 11.1.1. I want to ask if the api v11.1.1 support the Essbase 9.x?

Why don't you want to change the jar files? The way to test this would be to compile your code using the the earlier version jar files. results are a little more predicable than just swapping runtime environments.
It should work unless you are using a method on the 11.1.1.3 API that doesn't exist on 9.3.1

IE10 for Essbase Workspace / Shared Services

Hi,
I know IE10 is not officially supported with Essbase 11.1.2.3, but has anyone got it to work, my client has IE10 and does not want to use Firefox for Shared Services, but I am struggling to get anything other than a blank screen on the Shared Services page?
I have tried adding to trusted sites and allowing site from different zones in internet options but it just freezes on the index.jsp page.
Is this possible if unsupported?

Prereq for Essbase Linux

HI, we are using Linux redhat 5.6 (on servers) and 6.3 ( on desktop PC for testing) for essbase. Are there any prereq for Linux before installing essbase and hyperion planning? If yes than could we use the prereqs of EBS? if not than were can i find the prereq for Linux.

RDBMS for Essbase

Hi All-
I got the below statement from an Oracle guy while planning for an upgrade:
"An Oracle RDBMS is required in essbase v11 for housing metadata and system security information and it was not required in the v7. "
Is it a valid statement if we just want to have Essbase at standalone product with native security? Does it mean that v9.3 also need an RDBMS for Essbase? If so, why?
I've worked on v7 & v9.3 Essbase, and I don't remember using RDBMS for v9.3 Essbase. Please let me know if you have more info on this, Thanks!

Where is the download link for Essbase Excel Add-In?

My client uses v 9.3xxx, and both Windows 2003 Professional (yeah). I can't seem to find a download for the Excel Add-In for Essbase 9.3x.
Is one also available for Office 2007?

DIM Adaptors for Essbase

Hi All,
I have my Essbase 9.3.1.1 and DIM 9.3.1 installed in windows and my Powercentre 8.1 installed in Solaris.
When I try to install DIM adaptors for Essbase in windows machine it doesn't give any errors,but after installing when I check the Hyperion folder, none of the file got installed.
Can anyone help me what may be the issue with the above installation.

Lack of support for Canon G7 and G9. Alternatives?

I am really disappointed about the lack of support for the Canon G9, and looking at the list of compatible cameras (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306835) I notice that Canon G7 - even if it does not have a RAW format, is not supported either.
I am thinking that the purchase of the G9 may have been premature and that I may need to sell it and get another cam that is supported by Apple/Aperture.
What would you guys do? Is there a cam out there similar to the G9 at the moment that has a Apple-supported RAW format?

I think the camera closest to the G9 that has RAW support from Apple are the Panasonic DMC-LX2/Leica D-Lux 3 twins. Don't know where you are, but in the US, the Panasonic costs about $400. 10MP, 28-112mm (35mm equivalent) Leica lens, very compact body, and RAW output. The Leica costs $599, and has that classic look.
I don't know much about that cameras, but you may want to investigate.
