Support for fail over/clustering?

Is there any support for fail over/clustering Oracle on a two-node Linux cluster? Is it even possible to run Oracle on a two-node Linux cluster?

To add more, I'm unsure whether an HA product is even needed once Oracle Releases Parallel Server. Also, is it possible to run Oracle w/o Parallel Server on a cluster? If so, what does that buy you?

  • Is it possible to add hyper-V fail over clustering afterwards?

    Hi,
We are testing Windows 2012R2 Hyper-V using only one stand alone host without fail over clustering now with few virtual machines. Is it possible to add fail over clustering afterwards and add second Hyper-V node and shared disk and move virtual
machines there or do we have to install both nodes from scratch?

    Hi Jukka,
Inaddition, before you build hyper-v failover cluster please refer to these requirements within the article below :

  • Multiple types of database and fail over clustering

    Hi,
I have a few questions here.
    1) Can I have 2 types of databases (eg: OLTP and OLAP)run at the same time on a same machine?
    2) Can I implement a cross fail over cluster in this situation? Meaning I have 2 machines with OLAP and OLTP database instances installed in them (replica of each other), 1st machine running OLTP and 2nd running OLAP. In the situation where one of machines fail, the passive instance on the other machine takes over (back to situation on question 1).

  • Replicating router partitions for Fail/Over ?

    Hi everyone,
Is it really worth the value to replicate a router partition on the same
    node ?
In other words, has anyone ever seen a router partition failing on its
    own (eg due
to an out of memory), ie not because of the node failure ?
What I am looking for is to avoid wasting system resources for unneeded
    replicates.
    Thanks.

You will use Active/Standby failover method to keep your fail-over configuration in secondary firewall (PIX).
Active/Standby Failover lets you use a standby security appliance to take over the functionality of a failed unit. When the active unit fails, it changes to the standby state while the standby unit changes to the active state. The unit that becomes active assumes the IP addresses (or, for a transparent firewall, the management IP address) and MAC addresses of the failed unit and begins to pass traffic. The unit that is now in standby state takes over the standby IP addresses and MAC addresses. Because network devices see no change in the MAC to IP address pairing, no ARP entries change or time out anywhere on the network. PIX Security Appliance with 7.x version and above supports failover.

  • K7N420 Pro v.1.0 - No support for anything over 100Mhz FSB

I have the MSI K7N420 Pro v.1.0 and I've tried 3 different known good CPUs in this board.  (2 Athlon XP 1700+ and 1 Athlon 1.2ghz).  Both Athlon XPs are designated: AX1700DMT3C, while the 1.2Ghz is designated A1200AMS3C.  I tried several different memory modules from 128MB to 512MB individually and in pairs / and in one memory slot at a time or side-by-side slots.  And two PSUs: 1 250W Enlight and a 500W "off brand".  I have 1 IDE hard drive and 1 CD ROM.  I was able to install Windows once, using one of the 1700+, but then realized that it only registered as a 1100Ghz.  Went into the BIOS and changed it to the proper setting (133/266/66) and it registered as the 1700+.  But soon after the boot the system just goes black and halts.  After a long diagnosis (and updating the BIOS), I've found that when I raise the FSB setting to anything over 100Mhz, the motherboard can't handle it.  What is that all about?  Is this motherboard FUBAR or what?

The high temp. is partly because of the fast memory. It can however get bettered with a reseating of the processor, or rather a better processor heat sink & fan (HSF).
Before you give up, try this:
    Reseating time
    You need:
a star shaped, Philips screwdriver, and an ordinary flat one
strong, preferably chemical alcohole and/or Acetonic
    a tuss of cotton
    clean, preferably dust free cloths
    thermal grease, preferably Arctic Silver
good light and a large kitchen table
    some patience
a vacuum cleaner, preferably reversible, or a can of compressed air is not bad.
Pull the power cable out, and disconnect mouse, keyboard and such cables from the rear.
Put the case with the open side up on the kitchen table or similar. Have a newspaper under to prevent scratches.
Disconnect all cabling and possible AGP- and PCI-cards from the motherboard. It isn't absolutely necessary, but you might as well take the memory out too, as it will give you more freedom later.
With a philips screwdriver /star shaped/ unfasten the motherboard. When lifting it out I normally use the heat sink. Lift slowly.
Put the motherboard beside the case on something a bit soft, a cloth or a thick newspaper. Use an ordinary, flat, screwdriver to unfasten the heat sink. You push a clip down, and when that is loose it's easy to lift the heat sink off.
Clean both the bottom of the heat sink and the processor chip from old thermal grease. This is important! Strong alcohole and oil free Acetonic and a tuss(?) of cotton are good for this. After the cleaning, dry with a clean cloth.
If it is possible, use high-pressure air to blow the heat sink fins free of dust.
Make a note of the model no. on the processor.
Put the processor back on. Add a small drop of new thermal grease on the very chip of the processor. The drop might be half the size of a corn of rice. Spread it out with a plastic card: American Express Gold.
Make a virtual seating of the heat sink, so you are sure where to finally fasten the clip.
This might sound like a major task, but when prepared you'll do it in about fifteen minutes.
Before putting the motherboard back, you might have a look to see if the case needs some dry cleaning. Also have a look at the PSU and the cards. Don't use anything than air.

  • Exception while testing for Fail over

    Hi
I have the web tier architecture away from cluster. All ejbs are in cluster
running in two seperate machines say server1 and server2 . We have a
              factory class running in
webtier(we use servlet in this tier) which obtains home interface only once
and stores it for future reference. When ever we need the remoteobject stub,

              get the same.
In the webtier, I list all the servers in the cluster as a part of url as

  • WLC 4400 and 5500 Fail-over

Can we do the same thing with WCL 4400 and 5500 series for failover? We have 1 existing 4400 WLC and we wanted to purchase another 1 for fail-over as well as backup. But right now, 4400 is EOL already. The only option is to have the 5500 WLC.
So if you do have previous set-up like this, so I would need your inputs.. Otherwise, same as usual, will gonna test to work this out.

You can have both in a primary and backup, but make sure they are on the same code version. I'm assuming that you also have the configuration correct for the two wlc to communicate.
I would put them both on the 7.0.220.0.

  • NFS fail-over

    Hello all
We are planning to use remote home directories for our non-system user accounts on our Solaris boxes.
We have two servers to use for fail over.
Is it possible to set up NFS to fail over between both servers?
    Cheers
    --Andreas

If they can't be on the same subnet, then they can't fail each other over directly. You'd have to have client support, and there's no NFS client I'm aware of that will do that on read/write filesystems.
You could make it work if you could force unmount the clients after a server failure, but that would be annoying.
If the servers had a presence on the same subnet, they could each host a virtual IP address that clients would connect to.

  • Problems with LDAP Server fail-over

Our Xsan installed with 12 FCP, 2 MDC Xserve and 2 LDAP Xserver for fail-over.
The 2 MDC fail-over runs well but the 2 LDAP fail-over got problems.
The first time we up-plug the powercode of 1 xserve and the other LDAP takes over successfully but FCP users re-login takes 15 minutes. That's unacceptable.
The fail-over never succeed after that.
That means once the LDAP down and the backup LDAP will not take the job, we will lose everything related to user login.
Anybody can help? Thanks a lot.

I believe you can enter both LDAP servers in the client configuration for LDAP access. (Even though you shouldn't have to)
IP failover is not the issue, your LDAP configuration is.
Start at page 90 and work throught this document to make sure you have the clients setup properly.

3)- I have assigned two contexts (CTXT1-2) to FO group 1 and rest Context (CTXT-3) to FO group 2 in primary ASA.

    My question is
1)- how can i configure my monitor for fail over.
2)- Is it based on the Interfaces of Contexts or the no of contexts ?

  • Failover cluster server - File Server role is clustered - Shadow copies do not seem to travel to other node when failing over

    Hi,
New to 2012 and implementing a clustered environment for our File Services role.  Have got to a point where I have successfully configured the Shadow copy settings.
    Have a large (15tb) disk.  S:
Have a VSS drive (volume shadow copy drive) V:
Have successfully configured through Windows Explorer the Shadow copy settings.
Created dependencies in Failcover Cluster Server console whereby S: depends on V:
However, when I failover the resource and browse the Client Access Point share there are no entries under the "Previous Versions" tab.
When I visit the S: drive in windows explorer and open the Shadow copy dialogue box, there are entries showing the times and dates of the shadow copies ran when on the original node.  So the disk knows about the shadow copies that were ran on the
original node but the "previous versions" tab has no entries to display.
This is in a 2012 server (NOT R2 version).
Can anyone explain what might be the reason?  Do I have an "issue" or is this by design?
    All help apprecieated!

    Hi,
Please first check the requirements in following article:
Using Shadow Copies of Shared Folders in a server cluster
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc779378(v=ws.10).aspx
Cluster-managed shadow copies can only be created in a single quorum device cluster on a disk with a Physical Disk resource. In a single node cluster or majority node set cluster without a shared cluster disk, shadow copies can only be created and managed
    locally.
You cannot enable Shadow Copies of Shared Folders for the quorum resource, although you can enable Shadow Copies of Shared Folders for a File Share resource.
The recurring scheduled task that generates volume shadow copies must run on the same node that currently owns the storage volume.
The cluster resource that manages the scheduled task must be able to fail over with the Physical Disk resource that manages the storage volume.

  • Fail-over options for Standalone Print Server

Our organization recently set up 3 2012 r2 Print Servers to handle 3 separate sites.  Each printer server contains only the printers within the site - which makes each server a standalone print server.  I'm concern with the issue of not

    Hi Thomas,
If we want to create a clustered printer server, we need to created another print server in the same site.
