Support for multipart/mixed on iOS Mail

I subscribed what here is called "Certified Electronic Mail" (italian: PEC - Posta Elettronica Certificata), which has the same value as registered mail.
When I receive an email, I can see all the metadata, but not the message itself, which should be an .eml attachment.
In the footer there's only a message which tells (it's a translation): "This message cannot be shown because of the format used. Ask the sender to send it again using a different format and/or a different email client.
multipart/mixed".
Is it true that iOS cannot read multipart/mixed messages?
My PEC provider uses this format only.

I work for an IT company whose focus is on mailing and PEC systems, so after reading your post I've done some tests with my own PEC accounts.
I've noticed that iOS (test platform was 4.3.3 on an iPhone4) has indeed some problems in reading PEC messages, and this seem to be connected with the multipart/mixed content-type. If you do a quick search in the forums, you will find that this type is infact not supported by iOS , and this is why we are getting the error. During my tests, depending on the PEC Provider that hosted the sender, I got different behaviours: sometimes I didn't get any error at all, but still I was unable to see the postacert.eml attachment containing the text of the original message.
Unfortunately the PEC regulations in Italy force the provider to build the message using this multipart/mixed structure, so I guess we will not be able to read PEC messages on our iPhones until Apple fix this.
By the way, I am going to do some more tests to understand why I am getting such different results depending on the provider. I'll keep you updated should I find a workaround.

I do need some help.
Here is my setup. I have a OSX Mountain Lion Server with the mail service running. fetchmail is collecting mail from a pop account. I have two Mac clients - one with Outlook for Mac, one with Apple Mail,
Everything is fine exept...
... if I receive a mail from an Exchange Server with a PNG-Image in the signature (e.g. a company logo) then...
... this mail will be displayed as an empty mail. Correctly spoken, the mail header is there, but the mail body ist not shown. The body is there - I can see it if I swich to the raw view in mail.
So I tried to figure out what the reason might be. I also tried several ideas from other discussions here - without success.
This error is concerning only mails with the Content-Type: multipart / mixed - coming from Exchange Servers. The mail body is not displayed. It seems to be that something is corupptung the IMAP Envelope of these mails.
- Is it a security problem?
- Is it a filtering problem?
- Is it a settings problem in Apple Mail and Outlook for Mac?
- Is it a settings problem in fetchmail?
I don't know... I think it is a settings problem in the main.cf - but I don't know what to do.

Problem solved!
It was a bug in fetchmail. Try out the version 6.3.26. You have to compile fetchmail yourself... it is not a great thing. And everything is working.

Support for multipart forms in web portlets?

I have to make a web portlet(in JSP) that allows the user to upload a file. But I got this error...

it seems to me that the Portal page is having trouble extracting the request parameters because it is assuming that the request is wwwurlencoded and not multipart...
If that is true then there is no way for us to create a web portlet that has an upload facility...whether jsp or servlet...
What are the possible solutions to get around this?

If you want to upload files, you cannot submit the request to the portal - it has to be submitted directly to your own web provider (or your own servlet). Once you have processed the multipart document, then the web provider or servlet should re-direct to the portal page the upload portlet is on.
You can do the redirect by including the page_url from the upload portlet in the request to the servlet that will handle the upload.
NOTE: the servlet that handles the upload must be accessible from the browser (ie no firewalls)

Can you drop iOS 4 support for an app already in the App Store? What iOS version is good to target?

Now that AIR supports the MinimumOSVersion key, apps can set a specific minium version they will support. It wasn't available before, so it ended up in the app store with the default of 4.0.
Any device that AIR supported had to have ARMv7 anyways and I believe all ARMv7 iOS devices can update to at least 5.1.1, so would it be an issue with apple to drop iOS 4 support? Any device that could get the app before can upgrade to iOS 5+ for free to support it.
Only a small portion of people are still running iOS 4, and I get the feeling that most of those are folks with ancient ARMv6 devices that can't upgrade past iOS 4 and could never use the app anyways due to ARMv6. So why bother with testing for iOS 4 and possibly having to give iOS 4 related tech support?
If supporting 5+, is it a good idea to target 5.0 or 5.0.1 or 5.1 or 5.1.1 or what?

Any of the non-user generated resources is in the tmp or Cache folders (which are not backed up) on mine, so that shouldn't be an issue in my case.
I looked at the wiki for iOS 5 and i didn't see any developer-related features other than that 'do not back up' thing that were added between sub-versions of iOS 5, so maybe I should target 5.0?
I'm still wondering, how do you handle dropping older versions of iOS? Surly developers can't be expected to maintain support for discontinued versions of iOS forever just because their app has been around for awhile? Apps eventually need to advance and use new OS features and require performance of current devices. Just set the MinimumOSVersion key to 5.0 or whatever and that's it?

Support for iOS devices

I would like support for backup of my iOS devices in my TimeMachine.
I would love the same functions I have for OSX to be available to my iPad & iPhone or att least single full backup over wi-fi.
Am I the only one that finds the lack of this functionality kind of weird?

iOS devices back up to iTunes on a computer....or....to iCloud.
It is not possible to backup an iOS device directly using Time Machine, but if you backup your iOS device to a Mac, and then use Time Machine to back up the Mac, the backups of the IOS devices in iTunes are backed up using Time Machine.
So, you could say that Time Machine will indirectly back up an IOS device.

No script engine supported for 'JScript' error in OBIEE 11G ibots

Infrastructure: 64 bit OBIEE 11.1.1.5 on 64 bit Red-Hat Enterprise Linux 5.6
We tried using *.java to export the delivery content of an 'Agent' and place it in a shared folder on Windows.
We are able to use the .java file directly in putty and it works fine in creating a folder and copying the file from source to target, but when we put the same script as part of the actions in the 'Agent' properties, its fails with the error "[nQSError: 66023] No script engine supported for 'JScript'". The e-mail is triggered and the attachment is delivered fine.
We tried the same with a *.js file. The error is the same. I found people using *.js scripts and they say it worked for them at Re: How to send the content of an agent (PDF Report) to local machine in 11g
But I am not sure what are the other settings that should be done. The error seems very basic and fundamental and has something to do with java interpreter or something.
Any help if you have implemented the same, would be greatly appreciated.

That example in the link shows creating an action at the end of 'Agent'. I am not sure if that is what the user meant by 'create an action'. If the user meant to create an 'action', how does and where we call that action at the end of an 'Agent'?
I did try creating an action by updating the 'UserScript.js' file, but the moment i update the file with a custom function, the server doesnot recognise the UserScript.js file anymore and i cannot even use the default functions in UserScript.js file.

Why isn't multipart/mixed supported in Mail?

If I'm not mistaken multipart/mixed content types aren't supported in Mail.app and I'm told I should be using multipart/alternative despite the difference in the actual content for each part. In my case I have some text content and an rfc822 context so I figure I'm typing the thing correctly since Mail.app under OSX displays the rfc822 inline but the phone's Mail client simply complains.

Just wanted to echo this post. Given that a lot I people keep on sending multipart/mixed messages, I have to say that simply not displaying them is very disappointing.
The problem is that there are no alternatives whatsoever. Ok mail.app does not support it, but at least let the user download the source. I had my electronic tickets sent to me in such a message and had to figure out how the henk and when I can get my fligt having a dumb mail.app telling me that it won't download the rest. Come on!!! That's so frustrating.
In my experience about 10% of mails are multipart mixed. Do you see me telling to my customers to use another mail programme? Please improve this one.

HT4623 I updated to iOS 6.1, now the mail application will not load. My settings for each email account are still in there, I have synched several times, and rebooted several times. Sill nothing. Why is there no support for upgrade issues ??

I refuse to pay for support for an issue caused by an upgrade. That is just ridiculous.

I'm having the exact same problem. When I select an email the mail application pauses for a couple seconds, the screen goes black and then I go to the home screen. Have you found anything more on this issue? Didn't have this problem before upgrading to 6.1.

Multipart/mixed mime problems with mail

So from what I've gathered Mail has problems with multipart/mixed mime type emails.
I wrote a PHP script that sends customers their orders as a PDF attachment as well as the order processing department.
If Mail doesn't support multipart/mime what is the alternative to use in my mime type to make my emails work?
Is there another content type that I should be using?

IOS support for Flash Builder 4.5.1

I am getting the following message when I try to export a releae build to iOS using Flash Builder 4.5.1:
This platform is not currently supported for Flex Mobile projects
I have tried running the update again and gives me the update was successful message, but I still don't have iOS support.
I did update using the Eclipse updater and was unable to open Flash Builder, but since resolved that issue. I wonder if I need to reinstall Flash Builder and reapply the update or if there is an easier fix.

I just created a project with Adobe Launchpad (http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/airlaunchpad/), and it looked like I setup all the options for iOS, but when I go to run configurations and try and deploy to an iOS device I'm getting the same problem: "This platform is not currently supported for Flex Mobile projects"

Getting this error message as of this morning: The version of iOS on “iPad” does not match any of the versions of iOS supported for development with this installation of the iOS SDK. Please restore the device to a version of the OS listed below, or update to the latest version of the iOS SDK. I've downloaded the latest SDK and gone through the usual turn off and turn on again for iPad and computer, removed and reinstalled the iPad from Organizer and have no idea how to make apps build now. I was prompted to update the iphone too but there's no way I'm updating it if this issue can't be resolved.

Okay these are the steps I took to solve the problem - they may not be the right ones for you but they've solved the problem and saved time hunting for some other solution. Firstly I changed my MAC system to Lion with the £20 download, then I deleted the old Xcode and installed the new version that is app based and doesn't support Snow Leopard, then all was well. I can now update my xcode via the app which is quicker and more logical and can update my iPhone rather than chug along avoiding updates as I need to update my existing apps on the app store and upload a new one.

Yes, this is exactly what I'm wondering too. Without it, we can't build any apps that download content without the risk of the content being deleted.
